Switching Headphones

Hi, I'm another one of those people who has trouble with the headphones falling out - I have another pair that I would prefer to use, however when inserted into the jack no sound comes out - I'm wondering if it's because it's a black jack, while the original ipod jack is white. If this is the case does anyone know where I can get an adapter so I can switch out the headphones?

The original ipod headphones work fine, it's just the one's that I'd prefer to use that have the issue with no sound coming out - how do I know what size of jack it is on these headphones?

Any got a clue why the X-Fi software/drivers no longer switch between headphones/2. mode?
I am using a HD-Audio compatible frontpanel with an extreme gamer x-fi. although having all the checkboxes ticked (detect headphones, mute speakers, sync with control panel) it stays at 2. mode when plugging in the headphones.
It used to work but now something seems to interfere with it. It still mutes the 2. speakers but it does not change the profile to 'headphones'.

I've managed to get this working now, without requiring a separate 5Ghz network name - I reset my Time Capsule to defaults and went through the setup wizard again, then turned wifi off the on on my MacBook Air and it now connects at the fastest available speed. Happy Days!

    Try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.

  • Headphone trouble: No longer playing music through headphones

    Hey guys!
I bought a used iPod touch several years ago just to have something to listen to music  that was easy to use.  It has worked fine for me until now.  I cannot get it to connect to my headphones.  Everything else on the iPod works fine: Apps, wi-fi, mail, photos, music, etc.  It even still plays music and sound through the speaker. But when I plug my headphones in nothing happens. It still just plays through the speaker.  I tried switching headphones to a new pair, tried plugging it into my cable to play through my car speakers, and even tried resetting everything.  Still nothing. It's like it no longer has headphone capability.  I'm thinking it might just be something internal...But any other ideas or tips would be helpful.  I'm trying to avoid buying a new one as long as possible since I just started a new job and am still trying to pay for school. But I am willing to try anything to get my music back.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

  • Ease your worries about potential headphone jack problems for $6.50

    Just get one of these:
    http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...2559&hp=search
It's a right-angle, -foot headphone cable extension with strain relief and a volume control.
Actually, the reason I got one was because I use a pair of Grado SR-60's with my Touch and the molding around the top of the player won't allow me to plug them in all the way.
The remote volume control can also come in handy for use while in the Touch case.

Yes, it won't fix jack problem itself, but using extension cord You could prevent damages & prolong jack's life. You always leave this cord plugged into Your jack switching headphones on it, so You don't hurt this d?mn holeMessage Edited by rhythman on 03-3-2005 04:56 PM

  • Loss of sound in left headphone.

I bought an 80g classic 2 weeks ago and a few days ago i lost sound in my left headphone. I switched headphones to see if my headphones was the proble and still no sound in the left one and assumed its an iPod problem. Is there any way to fix this problem? or do i go to Bestbuy and exchange it for a new one?? Thanks.
    Tommy

Only two weeks old? Go back and exchange it. Since you've already tested the headphones, there's nothing you can do that would not void the warranty.

  • Other headphones w/ new shuffle?

Other than a fair number of older iPods handed out to my kids, given away to neighbors, etc., I have an iPhone I use for music. I'd like to get a new shuffle to use cycling in poorer weather, and just around the house so as not to have my phone stuck to me at all times just to listen to music. (I know I can switch off the phone part; just the size of the thing in comparison to the shuffle).
Cycling, I'll use the supplied earbuds w/ controls. Around the house I'll want to use some better over-ear headphones. I know that limits control, but will the switch on the shuffle -- shuffle, sequential, off -- actually start playing music? Or can I plug in the shuffle headphones, make my selections, then switch to the my other headphones? My iPhone cuts music playback if I unplug my headphones. With the shuffle that would prevent me from switching headphones.

The iPhone is germane because I'm referring to its iPod function -- that is, cutting playback of music when the headphones are disconnected.
What I reasoned out is, if the new shuffle headphones are the only thing that can initiate something as simple as playback, and I want to use a set of 3rd party headphones w/o any of Apple's remote controls, I would have to start the shuffle playing w/ the included headphones, then unplug them and switch to my preferred headphones. If the shuffle stops playback when the headphones are unplugged, this wouldn't work because once I plugged in the 3rd party headphones I would be unable to restart playback.
As an aside, your scolding, authoritarian tone in reply isn't helpful. When it's obvious you have no idea what you're talking and did not comprehend a pretty clear explanation it makes you look like a fool.
So I restate my question: Can I use 3rd party headphones w/ the new shuffle if all I need is to continue or restart playback?

  • Audigy Gamer-Missing headphone stereo output & bizarr behav

Yes I know I have an older card =/ Anyway...
    The problem:
One random bootup into WinXP soundcard no longer provides right headphone output. So I troubleshoot it with a different pair. Same problem. I return to using my old pair only to find out now the left side has gone out too! I shut down the comp, pulled the card out, and blew the jacks out with air compressor -- to no avail. I return the card to its PCI slot and turn the comp back on. Now instead of having now sound at all I only have a high pitched (volume dependant) whine whenever the WInXP asks for audio output. I then proceed to uninstall the dri'ves and update to the latest, but only to come back to my original problem -- no sound from the right ear.
Yes. I've read through the sticky "read first" post. It didnt help. So perhaps someone with experience can help me out. Anyone?
    Thanks.

Ok. so now the squeal has returned and crashes WinXP (not a BSOD though). Btw, there have been no hardware changes to the system.Message Edited by zork77 on 03-03-20060:06 PM
    Update:
Ah-ha! The squealing starts when I go to switch headphones jacks. Suggesting...a physical malfunction within the card? Man I wonder what I did to fry my poor ol' audigy. Lol.Message Edited by zork77 on 03-03-20060:48 PM

    Hello All...
Back after a brief absence, things look a little bit different.
I'm trying to take a 16 minute mini dv video and compress it for use on the web. I'm interested in any suggestions you may have on settings for the video and audio tracks. I've tried using Sorenson 3 (15 frames, key frames set to automatic, 320 x 240) for video and IMA 4:1 (mono) for audio. The resulting video looked great but the file size came in at about 255 Mb.
    Thanks!

Thank you for the replies.  Everyone was correct about the jack, interface, and phasing problems.  I have been unplugging my motu audio interface and then using headphones at work.  I have not changed any detailed audio output settings in logic.  When I read that the jack might be a problem I tried switching headphones.  This actually helped.  I am using dre-beats headphones and they seem to be having issues with the mac/jack-(the phasing/panning problems.  I can use these headphones with other devices but not the mac.  I have to use ipod ear buds and the phasing seems fixed.  Hopefully this information is helpful to someone else.
If anyone knows how to correct this issue please let me know its difficult to know what my final mixes are going to sound like and I have had to keep bouncing everything into i-tunes- sync to ipod and then listen in my car radio.

  • Help!! Static sound and Lock ups

I recently updated to the newest Ipod Mini version software 1.4. and when i play the songs on my ipod i get static sounding sounds and when i look at the display timer, it looks like the ipod i slowing down.
Also i'm getting lockups when i'm browsing.
Ipod service told me to restore the ipod, and i have 3 times, 1 to the factory software version, and twice to the newer version. It didn't help, as i'm still hearing static sounds, and I've switched headphones and headphone jacks, and it still doesn't help.

the exact same thing happened to me. Mine is an original mini which needless to say is out of warranty, so I need an answer that is not "replace the hardware". Is there a way to restore it to a previous version of the software?

  • HT2375 Using logic 9: play back of all project files now has problems:  Track volumes are way off - if panning is set to center then you cant hear that track? Even if pan is adjusted tracks are low and or distorted I have looked at core/built in audio

Been having project play back problems for about a month.  Sometimes when I open a project the volume of certain tracks is low and or distorted.  Oddly if a midi track is panned to the center (0) its volume is too low and if I pan right or left the track becomes louder.  Sometimes this doesn't help and if it is an audio track things become distorted.
Although things have been working good for about a year now I think it has something to do with the fact that I have to take the laptop to work and use headphones/built in audio for play back and then take it home and use different audio interface but I can't be sure.  The settings in preferences/audio/devises seem to be correct.
I have not added any plug-ins recently.  I have not downloaded any new programs recently other than a NI tutorial video (shouldn't have any affect) but I am trying to use a new midi controller but again that shouldn't have any affect on play back of existing track?
    Any suggestions?

  • HELP ME PLEASE- Internal speakers aren't recognized

    So, here's what's wrong:
1- Under sound in system preferences- output volume is muted and I can't un-click it
2-Also under sound in system preferences no devices are found under output and input
3-The sound symbol doesn't show in the top toolbar.
Also I googled this same problem and a lot of other people say a red laser is coming out of the head jack on the computer, I however don't have this problem.

+The MacBook Pros always seem to have this problem - especially when they get used as 'portable' computers - correction - I mean used at all!... My 07 and 08 MacBook Pro 17s both developed this problem pretty much right away - and I rarely have anything other than one of these $100 'special' cables connected (and I always get an Atari graphics card too!). I have been working from home - so I doubt that it has been connected and disconnected 35 times - and no more than 3 or 4 flings with a dirty head-phone-jack.... so the problem is more than 'dirt' or wear. I live In Mexico, and it tends to be humid and dusty simultaneously.... so where other people might have a 'stuck' switch because of using it, disuse can cause it too. The point is - its not 'user-error', it is a by-product of having one 2mm hole interfacing with those iconic-white Apple 1$ ear-phones, $5000 home stereos, and $50 000 sound-boards... i suppose a mini-dv hdmi would be good.... I just remember my happy disbelief when I discovered the 'little-red-light' on my new and silent Mac - I thought that it jammed to spite my already disappointed frustration with the mediocre connection options I was tinkering with (I know - read the manual)... I guess it was just get me to leave the gold-plated Radio-Shack crap to Dell!+
+A sound card interface that is multi-channel headphone-jack AND optical is.... well, unheard of! It is fragile (optical tends to be... ) then again, when we get the best of both worlds - the real concern is that Apple will shelve it with the FireWire, and we will all be in the same spot as we are now - no sound, and trying to figure-out ways to convince each other that adapting our other equipment to pair with our wireless freedoms (airport express connected via - optical?) is w-a-y better that a sticky switched headphone jack that secretly held full spectrum optical Dolby deliverance!!!!+
+Oh yeah... the 'FIX' - which I read about here and there (and has worked on two consecutive machines for me) is to keep the little socket clean, and lubricate the mechanism into functioning - as opposed to 'toothpicking-it'! Clean it with electrical contact cleaning solution (with the battery removed!). LUBRICATE the 'switch' to get it working ad to keep it that way. I used WD-40 on the 2007 mac... but the right stuff is an ultra-light 'dry' lubricant specifically for delicate contact applications - I am not sure, but I believe that the operation is at least partly electrical, so a non-conductive would probably exacerbate the problem - and would only work until it made it worse. The other tip is to use the right cables instead of paperclips and toothpicks. I found that the 3.5mm to mini toslink - the cheapest - seems to 'fit' the best. Also, the longer of the Apple earphones (iPhone 1st Gen?) kind of 'clicks' in - I put one cable in, then the other - then with the battery in, and the computer on I again rotated the cables - for me it seemed to start working when I had the cables connected to the amp at one end and the MacBook at the other+
