Switching ios devices to a new itunes account

How do I switch my son's and daughter's ipods and ipads (which are currently associated with  my itunes account) to their own accounts and be able to retain what is on those devices? I set my son up with his own itunes account but cannot figure out how to move his ipod and ipad to that new account. I would also like a separate account set up for my daughter which I'll do as soon as I figure out how to handle my son's. Currently he does not have info shared between his ipod and ipad because they are on my account and I don't want all of our ios devices sharing info. I'd like him to have his own so he can share between his devices.

Yes. I would clarify your statement about the "shared" iTunes Library though. If you want each iOS device to have its own music library, you should create separate user accounts for them. Read:

  • Syncing iOS devices to a new iTunes?

A week or so ago when i turned my iMac (late 2009 model) on it came up with stuff about a kernel panic and wouldnt let me get into the computer so after many attempts of restarting the computer and using various keyborad shortcuts i had no luck. So i rang up apple and asked them what was going on. I was told to bring my imac in so they could have a look at it. When i arrived i was set up at the genius bar and was told my hard drive had basically crashed/crapped itslef, and i didnt have anything backed up (but the guy at the genius bar plugged in some hard drive and showed me i lost my stuff even though my computer accounts and folders were all there). So around $350 for a new hard drive later and a weeks wait for my computer which caused a lot of stress with scool and homework i received my imac back. It was basically a new computer but running snow leopard. So i have downloaded lion again and set up icloud and synced my mail, contacts etc but how am i meant to use my ipad, 2 ipods, 3 iphones (some of these are my brothers and mum, we use the same computer) on the computer if it is going to ask me to erase and sync my data. This proably doesnt make sense but i hope someone can help me out Has anyone else had the same problem and been able to use there devices without having to erase anything Thank you

Thanks Rk0812 but even after deauthorising and logging out, when i go to sync for example apps it says "Are you sure you want to sync apps? All existing apps and their data on the iPhone “Thomas S's iPhone” will be replaced with apps from this iTunes library." I just want to know if there is a way to put all my apps, music etc back on my computer without having to erase my stuff, but thanks for your input

  • HT1848 How do you transfer purchases from an iOS device using the new iTunes (11?)?

I've just updated iTunes to ver. 11 on my mothers new PC and I'm connecting her iPad up for the first time.  I can't see anything like the transfer purchases option that exsisted in the previous versions.  I've tried to eject and start again, but it's still not giving me the option like it used to when you connected a device for the first time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

okay, should have serched a little more..  all I had to do was CTRL + b in my library to view the file menu, and under File -> Devices -> transfer purchases
    Please ignore this question!

  • How to transfer single device from one iTunes account to new iTunes account on another computer?

I have been successfully using a single iTunes account to sync & back-up two different iPhones.
One of those iPhones belongs to a now ex-boyfriend (no longer living with me), and naturally he would like to transfer the back-up data for his device to a new iTunes account (Apple ID) on a different computer.  While ongoing be able to sync, backup and update software for his iPhone on his computer.
    Is this possible?
I understand that recovery of the current media on his phone (i.e. apps, music, photos, etc.) that are all stored on my computer through my iTunes account will likely not be possible, but he doesn't want to erase all the important data/content (i.e. contacts, calendar, etc.) on his iPhone without being assured that a previous back-up can be successfully restored using his new iTunes account/library.
I'm aware of the back-up location & files for his device and can provide those to him on an external USB drive, but can someone please advise exactly how the restoration/procedure should work?  Or is there an alternative?

That's kind of a strange way to things, even if it's what Apple told you to do.
    Do this.
    - Access your *local* library
    - Go to iTunes->Preferences->Advanced
    - Select "Copy Files...." and "Keep iTunes Media File Oroganized"
    - Locate the files you want on the external disk
    - Drag them into the "Library" area of your sidebar
This will put the files in your local library and copy them to your MB.
They will still be on your external hard drive. You will have to separately delete them from that library if you want to.

  • Can I move an IPad to a new iTunes account without losing the apps?

I currently have two devices on my itunes account, and would like to move one the devices to a new itunes account (not mine). Is it possible to do this without losing all of the apps that have been acquired on that device?

You can only have one library per user account on a PC/Mac.
So, if you need to create a new library, then create a new user, and transfer the content you want over to that new user. Then sync.
Can you clarify a little more what you're needing?

How do I switch my 6th generation over to my new iTunes account and put all my songs from my iPhone onto it?

The iphone is not a backup/storage device.  The sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The exception is itunes purchases. File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a abckup copy of your computer.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.

It is easy to download items you have purchased from iTunes again; this article will walk you through it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
You want the "Apps on iOS" section.

  • Syncing to a new device; can two devices be on one iTunes account

I just got an iPhone 5c. I plan on giving my iPhone 4 to my daughter. When I tried to sync my information from the 4 to the 5c, iTunes did not list the 5c under 'devices' when I plugged it in to my laptop.  Does this mean I need to have two iTunes accounts - one for each phone? How do I get my music, apps, etc transferred from one phone to the other? Going forward, can I run both phones on one account with one ID, or is that not recommended? Any help would be greatly appreciated - I'm completely lost. Thank you!!

  • I have 5 devices authorized to my itunes account. 2 of them crashed but I am unable to authorize my new pc. From what I can see it looks like I may have to "deauthorize all" and then re authorize my current devices? Please help!

I have 5 devices authorized to my itunes account. 2 of them crashed long ago.  Now that I have a new pc, I am unable to authorize it.  I think from what I've read that I should "deauthorize all" and then go back and authorize my current 3 devices.  Is this correct?  I have tons of music and need to make sure I won't lose anything.  I would sure appreciate the help!  Thanks!!!

    No that is not correct.
Devices do not count toward the 5.  Authorization is only for computers, not iphone/ipod/ipad/Apple tv.
You do not authorize or deauthorize devices at all.
If you have reached the limit of 5 authorized COMPUTERS, then deauthorize all and the authorize the active COMPUTERS.

i had my Itunes account disabled due to fraud, if i create a new itunes account how can i switch purchases and apps to the new ID?

    Hi ...
Just be cause the account was disabled (Apple ID) doesn't mean you can't reset the password and have access to your iTunes purchases.
Use the iforgot link to reset your password > Apple ID: "This Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons" alert appears
If you have problems resetting, use the email form here >   Apple - Support - iTunes Store - Contact Us

On each device go to Settings> iTunes and App store> Turn off automatic downloads of Music, Apps and Books.  Now a purchase will only go to the device from which it was ordered.

There is no 5 device limit.  There is a 5 computer limit.

  • I have set up a second iTunes user account on my PC, but when I create the new iTunes account it copies the music, videos etc from the original account and they seem to be linked.  What am I doing wrong?

I have set up a second iTunes user account on my PC, but when I create the new iTunes account it copies the music, videos etc from the original account and they seem to be linked, so that when I delete a song from one library it deletes from the other one.
On the online tutorials I've seen it shows that when you create a new iTunes library it should open as a blank account, but that isn't happening.
    What am I doing wrong?

If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar
