Switching itunes purchases between computers

I bought a few things from the store and it stopped working so i'm using another one. How do I switch the purchases when I am unable to access my other computer?

  • How to share one Itunes account between computers

I'm trying to figure out how to actually move music in Itunes from one computer to another. I have the same account set up on both my desktop and laptop and I can access music from one on the other when they are both signed into Itunes. However, I would like to move some music from the desktop onto my laptop. Can I do this without hooking them up together (i.e. firewire cable, or whatever you would normally use)? Thanks!

Though it refers to items purchased from the iTunes Store, it applies to all your tracks and videos. And if you happen to also own an iPod:

  • Sharing iTunes purchases across computers

I have a Powerbook G4 and a MacBook Pro, both using the same iTunes account. If I purchase something (say, a television show) and download it to one computer, can I also download the same file from iTunes to the other at no extra cost?
iTunes allows this for free applications when using my iPhone and my iPod Touch (both synching to different computers but using the same account), but I am not clear on whether this principle applies to other content.
If not, is it possible to transfer the files via a flash drive, or will they only play on the computer to which they were downloaded?

Yes, you can. You can only download a track (or video or movie) once, so you'll just have to copy the tracks from one computer to the other. See:

You can't; only the iTunes Store staff might be able to do this for you.

  • Sharing itunes purchases between two authorized computers not working

    hello,
i currently own two apple laptops and want to be able to play my music that i purchased on one, on the other, as well. i have followed the instructions in other posts that tell me to 1, authorize the new computer, which i have done, and 2, if that works to go into a folder on my drive and delete it out to start fresh, which i have done, as well. however, when i click on the purchased songs, it is still telling me i need to authorize my computer. the computer, as i said, is already authorized.
    can anyone help with this?

I'm not sure I understand your second step. Couldn't you use the Home Sharing feature in iTunes 9 to accomplish this, as long as it's enabled for each? Both computers should be authorized with the same iTunes Store account, as you've done.

  • Share itunes purchases between accounts

We are all getting new Apple products for Christmas.  We want to split our existing iTunes accounts into 3 separate accounts and share some of the purchased content between accounts.  Can we do that without having to share libraries or authorize account on each other's computers?

Purchases are tied to the Apple ID, you can't transfer

    Hi,
We have something similar with 2 computers at home, and use 'iTunes Library Updater' (freeware on http://itlu.ownz.ch/wordpress/) which should serve your purpose.

  • Transferring iTunes Purchases Between Accounts

I have two Apple IDs, one iTunes ID and one Mobile Me ID. I don't want to have to move between the two. That is, use one for iTunes and another as my Mobile Me, but if I just use my Mobile Me one all my old purchases won't work or I'll have to constantly re-validate them with my old one. I want to delete my old one and transfer all my purchases to my Mobile Me account. Is this possible and if so how do I do it. Does it need to be done through Apple support?

  • Can I share Other itunes data between Computers?

I have an imac at home and a macbook pro for work. I would really like to be able to share the apps that I have bought and the Movies etc.. between the two machines.
In a similar way that I do with my imac and my ipad..
    Can I do this?
I have the icloud sharing of my music files.. but thats it..
    Just music files
    Thanks

If they are both authorized to your AppleID (which a work-owned computer might not be) you can, easily.
Downloading (using iOS or computer) past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not all media formats are available in all countries (see: iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match Availability by Country - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085); apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this).  Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later.  Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list (e.g., ringtones, audiobooks), or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.  Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.
Select the iTunes Store on the left side of iTunes.
Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.
You can re-download your available previous purchases.
If they are not authorized then you might have limited success with hand-copying files to a flash drive.  Supposedly DRM has been removed from music files and they do not need authorization, but movies would need for you to authorize the computer.  Can I Put Multiple iTunes Accounts on My iPhone? - http://techtips.salon.com/can-put-multiple-itunes-accounts-iphone-3518.html

  • ITunes Purchases/Two Computers

    Help!
I lost my desktop in the Santa Barbara fire a few weeks ago. I had my iTunes and all purchases on it. I now have a laptop; I can log in and "authorize" the laptop to use the iTunes store, but none of my previous purchases show up. I even repurchased a tune and it prompted me, saying that I had already purchased it, yet nothing shows up.
Does anyone know if there is a way to get those songs to show up on the new laptop? I need the music to get me through!
    Thanks,
    Lori

If you didn't make a back-up of your purchases to restore from then I'm sorry to say that you can't simply download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on the link at the bottom of this page you'll be able to email your query: iTMS Customer Service
If you have an iPod that still has the purchases on it the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer

  • Share iTunes purchases between two user accounts on the same Mac?

I have a Macbook Pro, for my bride and I, and a Macbook, for our kids. Both Macs are authorized on my iTunes account.
So, how can I share an iTunes Store purchased song on my account with my wife's? I understand how to turn on sharing and she can see my songs in iTunes on her account, but she cannot synch them to her iPod.
Now, I'm allowed to authorize an iTunes account on up to five Macs. I have two. But I have four accounts. Either way, I won't be exceeding five copies, but can't find a way to get a song I bought in my iTunes to my wife's iPod.
We use the same iTunes account but don't want to have to buy things twice to get them on her iPod. Just seems weird that I could put it on five machines but not two user accounts on the same one.

On my Mac Pro I moved the entire library to "Macintosh HD/Shared/iTunes". Changed the Folder location in iTunes Preferences->Advanced->General to point to that location. Then in each user change the Music/iTunes folder to be an alias or link pointing to the Shared/iTunes folder. You will likely need to change the permissions on that folder to give everyone the ability to read and write. Do that via "Get Info" on the iTunes folder using Finder. I'd suggest backing everything up before you do this.

  • Possible to share iTunes purchases between accounts?

My 13 year old daughter and I have shared an iTunes account for several years.  As our icloud and photostream are also shared, we no longer want to share our account, but neither of us wants to lose the music. Is there a way to create a new account for her and both of us keep the music?  I don't think Homesharing is what we want as we both want the music to be on our devices. Help!

You can still share an account for purchases in iTunes and the App Store while having different Apple ID for each of you to use for iCloud, Photo Stream, mail, calendars, contacts, etc.

  • Transferring Itunes data between computers using an external hard drive.

I just bought a new laptop and an external hard drive. What is the best way to go about transfering all of my 1400 songs on Itunes from my old computer to my new laptop using the external hard drive? I have purchased some songs from Itunes but mostly they were not bought there. Thanks in advance.

The guide for using the iPod as a hard drive is a good starting point. Just skip on past the part about enabling the iPod as a hard drive and read from "Is all the music together?". Substitute "external hard drive" for "iPod" and the instructions are the same: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer

  • Transferring purchases between computers & different accounts

I have many songs currently on my shuffle of which were downloaded from from a computer and an account that I no longer have access to. I have a new computer and have esablished a new account and purchased new songs. My computer will access the current library on my ipod but will not allow me to make any changes to it. I've purchased songs on my new computer/account and it will not allow me to transfer them to my shuffle. Essentially how do i fix this so I can edit my ipod and add new songs to it. The account that i originally downloaded the songs from is now inactive.

Bummer, now you are forever going to have to look after 2 itunes accounts.
You need to get into that old account. See if the apple iforgot page helps.
You need to authorize this new PC for both itunes store accounts.

  • ITunes balance between computers

    Hello,
I just bought an iTunes gift card and redeemed it using my PC. I then when to my Mac, and I saw that my balance didn't increase. I didn't make any purchases. How do I get my Mac to get the same amount of money I have when I use my PC onto my Mac?
I am still learning how to use a Mac, since I am quite new to this operating system.
Thank you in advance for the time in helping me resolve my issue. It's greatly appreciated!

    Hi there,
The article iTunes Store: How to redeem a code has some information you may find helpful.
Be sure to sign in to the iTunes Store on a regular basis to update your credit count since your credits may expire. Each time you make a purchase, funds will be deducted from the credit until the credit is used up. To refresh your visible credit balance, sign in to your account in the iTunes Store. Your updated credit amount appears next to your account name.
