Switching Itunes?

I know this has probably been asked several times, but I'm short on time at the moment. So. Itunes is not currently working on my PC because of this complicated firewall issue with the Store, so I'd like to switch my main library over to my laptop. Is it possible to do this by just connecting my Ipod to the laptop with the port without having to transfer my entire library with a disc or something? In other words, what is the easiest way to transfer my Library from one computer to the other? Thanks.

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

  • How do I switch Itunes Libraries without losing my music?

The majority of my music is on my old, slow computer and this is where I initially synced my Iphone 5s, but my primary computer (laptop) has some music and I would like to download music from this computer in the future. I can't get the music from my laptop to my Iphone without Itunes prompting a message that says that my music from the other computer will be deleted. I know that I can transfer the music to the other computer via usb external storage devices and this is what I plan to do now, but it is a pain and in the future I would like to be able to get music from my laptop. Is there any way to switch Itunes libraries without deleting my music? Any information would be appreciated.

ugghh thats so obnoxious I dont know why Apple made it like this it used to be so easy to transfer music.. so does this mean that I'm going to have to delete al of my music from my old computer and then redownload it?

I believe you mean to say that you wish to switch which country's iTunes Store you are accessing. Go to iTunes Store > Change Country (all the way at the bottom) to do this. You'll have to use up all of your iTunes balance to do this. Post back if this is not what you wanted to do.

  • Switching itunes to new computer without losing the title editing

Im curious if anyone knows a way to switch Itunes songs to a new computer without having a USB port. My old computer i have broken all of them (the reason I got a new computer) and im not sure how to switch my music to the new itunes on the new computer without having to re-edit ALL of my songs. I download all of my music not through I tunes and keep the music in its own folder. Then I just add it to itunes. The issue is I have to edit each song in itunes so the title is correct and only has the song title and not the artist or other stuff in the title. Im worried that if I download Itunes on the new computer and it automatically syncs all my music that ill have to go back and re-edit ALL of the songs. Which took hours to do the first time. I have all my music on the new computer- did it via file sharing across the network. Anyone have any idea on how to do this? I wish I could just hook the ipod up and have them transfer in to itunes so the editing stays.

If you can still access the old computer across your network, you should copy the iTunes database (the iTunes Library.itl file) from old to new.  The metadata that you see in iTunes is a combination of information held within that database and the properties/tags embedded within your media files.  iTunes actually works much better with respect to creating/maintaining backups and transferring your library between computers if you configure it to copy music, etc. into the iTunes Media folder and to organize the files & subfolders within it, so that the library (by default in Windows Vista/7/8 C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes) has this structure:
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "The issue is I have to edit each song in itunes so the title is correct and only has the song title and not the artist or other stuff in the title."  Almost all (legitimate) sources - importing from your own CDs, purchases from the iTunes Store, Amazon, etc. - will always have separate metadata elements for Artist, Song Name, Album and Track No. (and in many cases will also have Album Artist, Disc No., Disc Count, and Track Count.  There are cases where changes you make after importing to iTunes may be overridden for iTunes Store purchases and/or if you subscribe to iTunes Match - this behavior can be disabled by ensuring that these options in Edit > Preferences > Advanced are not selected:
If you change these you will need to restart iTunes for the changes to take effect.

  • Switching iTunes library and computer

My itunes is taking too long making the switch to a new computer for my ipod touch. The message "waiting for changes to be applied" has been displaying in the status window for several hours. I've tried stopping and starting again. itunes just keeps making me wait each time for hours. Is this normal? Do I really have to wait this long to switch computers and authorize a new itunes library for syncing?

  • How can I switch iTunes accounts without losing purchases?

When I purchased my wife an iPhone, I made the mistake of setting her iPhone up on my iTunes account. It had never been a problem until now with iCloud and other such features that are connected with the iTunes account. Is it possible to switch her to her own iTunes account and still retain the music/apps/etc she has purchased for her device? Thanks.

Agreed, I would like to able able to split my daughters account up from mine. I do not believe there is a way to do this however.

  • Why does my iTunes store keep freezing when switching iTunes stores?

I have an account in both the Canada store and the U.S. store (I buy U.S. iTunes cards for use as some shows do not come to Canada until nearly a year after its U.S. store release). However, and don't ask why I haven't posted about this earlier I noticed for the past month or two when I switch from one to the other, my iTunes freezes completely forcing me to Force Quit it and restart. It will then be in the store I was switching into (from Canada to U.S. or vice versa) but it still had to freeze and be re-opened before I could access it. Is there any reason this might be happening? I feel like it might've happened after the most recent update because it did not used to do this. I have the latest iTunes update 11.1.3 (8).
    Thanks for anyone's help.

  • Switching iTunes from mac to pc - having problems - help, please!!!!

I have an iPod and a Shuffle and all my music is in iTunes on my mac.
I want to now have my iTunes on my pc instead. I understand my iPod is not compatible, so I plan to re-format it once I get iTunes all squared away.
I downloaded iTunes onto my pc and...
Issue #1: When I open i Tunes I receive an error (no code) that says: "The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes." I can hit "ok" on the message and iTunes opens up.
I uninstalled and reinstalled. Same message. True, I have other CD burning software on the computer but don't want to delete it. Don't know if this is really an issue except for having to bypass that error message every time I open iTunes....
Issue #2: I Exported my iTunes library from the mac onto an external hard drive formated in fat32 thinking I could either import the music into iTunes on my pc, or, even better, use the external drive to store the music for use with iTunes on my pc.
Ideally, I'd store the music on the external hard drive and use iTunes on my PC with my iPod and Shuffle.
BUT, after searching the support site and discussions and trying the suggestions I found, I stil have no music showing up in iTunes on the pc.
Can anyone help me? I've spent quite a bit of time on this already and I really can't keep wasting the time. Thank you!!!!!!!!!

First you will want to look for updates to your other CD burning programs that will possiably fix this issue or try uninstalling reinstalling both iTUnes and quicktime.
Im not that mac savy, but on the windows side of things, iTUnes is very picky on what is where.you can recreat the Library on your PC if the file you saved from the mac is a "iTUnes Music Library.xml" file but that would be a hard thing and a mess cuz iTUnes for windows doesn't "Watch" folders. So if that Nickelback song you have was on C:/Mac/Music or however a mac does folders, then it would have to be in the EXACT location in windows. If not your going to have a very sloppy library full of ! marks.
But if you want you can recreate the library following these instructions http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313

  • Switching iTunes (older version) from an old latptop with mechanical issues to iTunes on a new computer.  The hard drive, issue free, was placed in external drive enclosure.  How do I recover iTunes?

I'm trying to moves iTunes (older version) from an old latptop with mechanical issues (non working screen, keyboard, and battery) to iTunes on a new computer.  The hard drive, issue free, was placed in external drive enclosure.  This was a cost effective way instead of dumping lots of money in an outdated old laptop while I can invest it into a new laptop.  How do I recover iTunes?
I'm switching from a 3G phone to a blank 4GS in the process.  I would like to have everything that was on my 3G phone and iTunes on my new phone and computer.
    Thanks

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.

  • Switching iTunes Account on iPod Touch

The iTunes account currently set on my iPod Touch is my fiance's, but I need to switch to my own. The manual says you can sign in to a different account after opening ITunes Wi-Fi, but when I open it, it doesn't give me an option to sign in, nor does it allow me to view any account info. The only options I have are to view iTunes features, top ten, to search, and view downloads. Help? Anyone?

Try changing the account in iTunes and syncing.
I did it once, and I think that's how I did it.

  • Switching iTunes from PC to Mac

I copied my iTunes Library.itl file to my Mac's iTunes folder and deleted the other files in that were in that folder. I had been saving all my songs and movies to an external hard drive, so I just unplugged my external drive from the PC and plugged it into the Mac. (Since then, the Mac can read the hard drive, but if I try to move my external drive back to the PC, the PC can't find it. But that's another story.) At first nothing happened when I turned on iTunes. None of my old playlists popped out. I kept trying though by signing into iTunes and connecting (but not syncing) my iPhone. Then this window started popping up saying "The iTunes Library locked, on a locked disk or you do not have written permission for this file." I tried playing with it again by copying the .itl file on a disk from my old PC and replacing the file I had copied into the iTunes folder on the Mac, but the window keeps popping up. The only way I can start iTunes is by deleting that file. Please help. All I want to do is transfer my old songs, movies, and playlists to my iMac.

    Hi BMcCrae,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
If all of your devices were tied to the same Apple ID account before switching from the PC to the iMac, you do not need to create a new iTunes Store account.
The articles below will explain how to sign out of the iTunes Store account and sign in with the Apple ID you've been using.

I've just bought an Apple TV with 5.2 firmware, and I was wondering if any of you could guide me into iTunes Switching accounts in my new toy: I want to manage the device from my phone and iPad, and from my husband's ones to.
    Thanks a lot

Go into settings - iTunes store. Key in the accounts and then they will be available for you to switch. Not sure what you mean by 'manage the device from my phone and iPad..'
