Switching Mac's

I'll be moving everything from a PPC G5 to a new Mac Pro. What happens when it starts on the new Mac? Will it do a complete backup of the new Mac or just the recent changes from the old Mac's files as transferred? Is there a way to clear the TC like it's new to do the initial complete backup and start from there on the TC?

Welcome to the discussion area, wsrphoto!
What happens when it starts on the new Mac?
I assume that "it" is a Time Capsule, correct?
Will it do a complete backup of the new Mac or just the recent changes from the old Mac's files as transferred?
If "it" is a Time Capsule, it will backup the complete contents of the Mac Pro on the first backup of the device.
Is there a way to clear the TC like it's new...
You can erase the disk. This will wipe everything from the drive including backups from any other Macs if you have them on the disk. Backups will start all over again. Post back if you need the steps to perform the "erase" function.

  • PC22224 switch fails on boot with message "Invalid switch MAC address"

Ok moderators, I know this is a nonsupported product, but you moved all Switch messages to the archive.  This seemed to be the most appropriate folder for it.  Hope that's ok?
I have a NEW (can you believe it?) PC22224 managed Cisco/Linksys switch with a problem.  When it boots, it passes all tests until it is almost ready to run, then I get this message:
    Checking file integrity..... Done
    Decompressing Code Image.... Done
    System PANIC.....
    Invalid switch MAC address
Does anyone know how to correct this problem?  I can find nothing on it anywhere on the web.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Premiere Pro CC Crashing When App Switching (Mac)

    Hi,
Premiere has been crashing like crazy as of late, and I've noticed it's particularly finicky when I'm switch applications (CMD+TAB) on my Mac. For example, I'll jump from Premiere into Word or Preview to look at a script, and when I jump back, I get that lovely little "Sorry, a serious error..." screen. It's happened 15 times in the last few days. I am sending bug reports every time.
    System info:
    Mac Pro (Late 2013)
    2.7 GHz 12-Core Intel Xeon E5
    64 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 ECC
    AMD FirePro D700 6144 MB
    Thoughts? Running PrPro 8.2.0 (65)
    Matt

Yes. Exactly this. I thought it was an issue with music apps I listen to (Spotify, iTunes) but I've had the crash when switching from Firefox or TextEdit as well. No performance issues at all within Premiere like some others users have. Just this random crash. I notice that if I'm listening to music in Spotify or iTunes, and Premiere crashes, the music stops as well and can only be fixed by restarting the app I'm listening to it in. Though it doesn't actually crash the music app itself.
There was an article about Yosemite (which I'm sure is the cause of all this) having changed some system folders to Read-Only even for an administrator-level user. I can't find that article again for the life of me but I followed the instructions and was crash-free for an entire day. However, 36 hours later I'm having the same issues again.
My system specs are identical to yours just slightly less powerful. Same hardware. Mac OS 10.10.2.

  • ISE question on desktop switches, MAC replace, MAC move

    Hi all,
few questions on authenticator NAD (example: switch) to support on these items
    01. desktop switches, how we can enable other switch to plug in and extend the network? What is this deal with Network Edge Access Topology (NEAT)?
what must configure on ISE policy node, authenticator switch and the new plug in extended switch?
    02. How and what need to do on authenticator switch and ISE on these:
    a. MAC Replace
    b. MAC Move
    Thanks
    Noel

    mac replace -
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/12.2SX/configuration/guide/dot1x.html#wp1143287
    mac move -
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst2960/software/release/12.2_55_se/configuration/guide/sw8021x.html#wp1481527
    Before you consider NEAT -
If you are using a dumb switch you can enable multi-auth so that all mac  addresses forwarded up to the switch port are authenticated, dynamic  vlan assignment is not a scalable solution for this solution since you  can only assign the first authenticated mac address to the dynamic vlan,  others either inherit the vlan or error disable the port (I can't  recall), but it is documented.
NEAT is only supported on a few access or distribution switches, so make sure you follow the release notes to see if you platform supports this design.
ISE policy node - must have the av-pair of device-traffic-class=switch to be configured to dynamically convert the authenticator's port over to a trunk port. Your design depends on either MAB or dot1x to succeed for this av-pair to be triggered in your authorization policy...i.e. profiled endpoint group or a user group with the credentials mapped to a user group or both.
Authenticator switch - must allow radius authentication, authorization, and for proper license tracking an accounting.
Client switch - credentials (see reference guides and config examples), forward traffic to trigger mab if dot1x is not part of this solution.

  • Integration of Telephone Switch - Mac Network

We have a 15 user LAN, all using Macbook. I am looking for a system that lets making phone calls directly from the computers through the telephone switch, which is Alcatel OmniPCX Office.
Alcatel (and other brands such as Siemens and Avaya) supports CTI, but only for Windows platform.
Does anyone have any idea or suggestion?
    Thanks in advance.
    Vadi Genguc

Your switch is likely to have many MAC addresses.
If you do a show interface for each of the interfaces, you will probably find that each one has a different MAC address.
There is one "master" MAC address for the switch, known as the Bridge ID.  You can see that be doing a show spanning-tree and looking for the "Bridge ID" (not necessarily the Root ID).
If you do a show mac-address-table, those are not the MAC addresses of your switch, but the MAC addresses of the things attached to your switch, together with the ports they are attached to.
    Does that help?

  • Switch mac app store accounts

I work at a small company where purchasing at least 20 (I think thats the business minimum) licenses is not really an option.  Due to this, if I register an account on my work machine and then eventually give my machine to a fellow co-worker can he switch the account on the machine?  I believe apps are linked to the account but what about the OS downloads(Lion)?

The apps on that Mac will only be able to be updated by you. And apps the other person buys with their own Apple ID will only be able to be updated by them using their Apple ID. But Lion will update through Software Update and Apple says will not need an Apple ID.

  • Daughter and I switching mac laptops

I have the old black macbook with Leopard (2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2GB memory) and she has a Macbook Pro with the same version of Leopard 10.5.8, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 8GB Memory. I have Time Machine set up on both. Need a check list of how to switch one to the other without losing any of the applications. There is more software on MacBook Pro than the MacBook.

Switch around the Macs and Time Machine volumes so they don't match. On each Mac, run the Migration Assistant and choose the Time Machine option. From there, choose to copy over the Applications and user folder (ie, home directory).
To make sure you don't lose anything, simply don't delete anything until you're positive you have everything where you want it. Even if you do delete something (or replace something by mistake) Time Machine will give you a backup of both computers. A neat little feature of Time Machine is that if you're using it on a different computer (like you will) it's impossible to change Time Machine.

  • Switch mac address learning

Hi all, am i right in saying that if I had 2 switches plugged together, each switch wouldnt know about each others mac addresses until a host is passed through the uplink, can anyone tell me how the switch knows to use the uplink to find the yet un found mac address, does the switch forward the broadcast from the pc, then its learnt ?

You are right - they do not communicate their MAC tables to each other. The time a switch learns about a device connected to another switch is when a packet hits *that* switch.
Normally a broadcast will be carried across all switches in the VLAN, so when a PC arps, all switches will hear about it and add it to their tables. If after (by default) 5 mins, no traffic from said device hits the switch, it wll be removed from te table (cam aging).
So, with a simple network of two switches and everything in VLAN1, and three systems - A, B and C. A wants to talk to B. A&B are in switch 1, C in switch 2.
It sends a broadcast (ARP) which gets flooded to B, and via switch 2 and this seen by B. Switch 1 adds A to the address table, as does switch 2 - pointing at the inter switch link.
B unicasts the ARP response to A. Switch 1 adds B to the table and forwards the response to A as A is in the table. This does not get sent to switch 2. A&B talk to each other and the traffic is constrained to switch 1. After 5 mins the entry for A in switch two ages out and is removed.
A then starts to purely stream data to B. B does not bneed to respond. A stays in the table, but after 5 mins, B ages out. At that point, the traffic will be sent to switch 2, and seen by C as no switch knows where B is.
Because of whatever imaginary application is sending all this data, C sends a "quench" message to A. This gets flooded everywhere. the address of C is added to tables. A Acknowledges and responds, but carries on sending the traffic. As B is not in the table, the traffic is still flooded, but my totally imaginary application does somethin useful. It triggers a packet that gets a response from B. That puts B back in the filter table of switch1, and stops the traffic being flooded. If B sends anything o B, it will be flooded on switch 2, including to 1, but on 1 it will be sent only to B. any response to C will then put B in both tables.

  • Switch mac pro 2008 3,1 vs. i7-2600 win7

OK. I left Mac years ago, and am considering coming back.
I have an i7-2600 win machine with 12 gig ram
    I am looking at a 2008 3,1 quad-core 2.8mhz machine.
bonehead questions: it seems like these answers are "yes" but I am not sure.
The MacPro has pci slots - can I use my video cards from my current tower? (I run 4 monitors vertically [vs. horizontally], 2 video cards).
Can I use my 6x2 gig dd3 sdram sticks?
How does the quad-core 2.8 2008 compare with my i7-2600 processor?
The more I look into it, the more it seems to make sense to come back to the light side. :-)

    No.
    Specs are all different.

  • Switching Macs, sync problem.

*I have a 3GS 16GB iPhone which will be a year old in August. When I had it, I was syncing it on my old Macbook Pro which is about 2 and a half years old. No problems there.*
I now have a 13 inch Macbook Pro 2.66GHz, only about a week old. My iPhone will plug into my laptop and charge, but it does not get recognised in iTunes and the program does not automatically open when I plug it into my laptop. I have done the trouble shooting on here, including uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes and it did sync once, but it hasn't done that since. If anyone is experiencing or has experienced the same problem and knows how to fix it, I would be grateful if you could respond to this message. Thank you.

    Hi carmelomtta,
I am launching thepuTTY sessions via SGD. The puTTY executable resides on the same Windows Termiinal Server. The puTTY sessions that I open are pointing to the same IP address.
I launch one session from my Webtop and the keyboard input is fine. I launch another puTTY session via SGD and the keyboard mapping is fine.
I switch between the two sessions using ALT TAB and then begin to type and every character is prefixed with an ESC Character.
The problem is intermittent. It does not happen all the time.
    Thank you for your help.

  • Fast User Switching Mac OS X 10.5.8

I just updated my iMac-G5 to OS X 10.5.8 and have noticed that when I use fast user switching, the "rotating cube" becomes stuck between accounts. The desktop does eventually go to the correct account, it's just not as "cool" as it was. Anyone else have this problem? Or is it time to retire the iMac G5?
    Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I attempted to set up some new user accounts, and now thing are even worse. Before I set up the new user accounts, I deleted some old accounts I no longer needed. I neglected to log out of my other account before trying to switch between the two new accounts. When I attempted to switch to the new user account, the rotating cube got stuck. The new account desktop did show up, but without a menu bar, only the dock, and the icons for my two hard drives. I couldn't switch back to my main account and had to reboot by holding in the power button. Once I had rebooted I attempted to log off of my main account. No login window appeared, only the OS X desktop screen. Again I was forced to reboot by holding down the power button. Once back to my desktop, I checked and repaired permissions. I deleted the two new user accounts, and now when I attempt to switch to the remaining account I have, again, the rotating cube gets stuck and when the new desktop appears for the account, there is no menu bar, only the dock the HD icons. Programs on the dock don't launch either. The dock icons bounce, but that's it. I'm afraid I've done something seriously wrong. Any advice on what might be causing this bizarre behavior?
    Thanks!

  • Switching Mac's and Software

What happens if I purchased iWork, installed it on a mac, and then changed to a new machine? Can I transfer iWork with me? Would I have to deauthorize iWork on one machine in order to install it on another?

I have been able to use a single copy of iWork 08 on two machines using the same license key.
And, to answer your question iWork 08 also comes with a family pack license like office and more information on that is available [HERE|http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB625Z/A?cid=OAS%2DUS%2DYPI].

  • How to Load Playlists After Switching Mac Users

Hi, I'd like to access the same songs and playlists in the same iTunes account when opening iTunes under different users logged onto the same Mac.
Originally iTunes was organized under a User "A" on a Mac. Now I would like to log into User "B" on the same Mac and open iTunes with the same playlist/account authorization.
How can this be done? How can the playlists created under User A be transferred for use in iTunes under User B?
    Thanks

If your machine's firmware was updated to allow Internet Recovery (hold down Command + Option + R while restarting or rebooting until you see a spinning globe, then wait for the Utilities window to show - up to 10 minutes), then you can wipe the drive in Disk Utility and choose to reinstall Mac OS X. Doing it that way, the version closest to the original version will be installed without tieing it to an Apple ID.
If the firmware was not updated, you can use the original install disks to boot from wipe the drive, and reinstall the OS.
With either method, you will be able to use your own Apple ID to get updates/upgrades at the app store.

  • Switching Macs

I just gave my 12 year old daughter my iMac G5, she was using a G3 iBook and it was not cutting it for her and her school work. So I copied my basic data to my firewire GODisk and dug out my G4 Cube and got it up and running again.
But some things are not right. Which file do I need to copy to get my bookmarks from Safari? Also Do I just copy all of Address book to get my addresses? Finally, I bought some movies and TV shows from iTunes but they will not sync with my Cube, how do I do that?
    Thanks
Mac Cube   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   1 gig ram
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1 gig ram

Which file do I need to copy to get my bookmarks from Safari?
    I recommend these:
    /Users/username/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist and History.plist
    /Users/username/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist
    /Users/username/Library/Keychains/login.keychain
Do I just copy all of Address book to get my addresses?
    /Users/username/Library/Application Support/ entire /Addressbook folder
As for the movies and tunes, IIRC, you need to deauthorize and reauthorize them. However, I don't use the iTunes Store, so you can go there and check out the details.
