Switching off at night

New user.(BT VISION)
Have read the alarming posts about the powerline adapters. They do get rather warm. I alreadyalways turn off my BT Hub at night and this automatically turns off the powerline adapter in the computer room. Decided last night I would try also swutching off the Vision Box and adapter downstairs for safety. On switching on this morning all Freeview channels were still there which was a relief. However, ESPN had gone and I had to wait for it to load up again. This could occasionally be a nuiscance but overall, I think it is probably best for peace of mind. Any comments on this? Thanks

Well my entire system runs 24 hours a day and I have no problems. My hub is in use 24/7 as I broadcast a live radio station.
I don't think you should have any issues at all.

  • Can airport extreme be switched off at night?

Can the wireless function be programmed to switch off and back on at certain times?  Being a paranoid parent, I would rather not have a wireless signal radiating in my house all night.

There is no way to "program" the Extreme to turn off it's WiFi signal. You can limit children's Internet access:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1161672/limit_internet_access.html
An alternative would be to just turn off the Extreme at the wall.

  • HT4623 iPhone 4 s giving problems since installing OS 6, crashing and battery levels all over the place, even when switched off at night dropping from 88% to 2% overnight and some functions such as iCloud dont work consistently. Can I revert to OS 5?

Sorry once you have upgraded you can't downgrade IOS.  This is not supported by Apple.
    Suggest you restore your iphone.

  • My Iphone 5 was working Ok last night, I waked up in the morning to find it switched off and don't want to reopen, why?

Why suddenly my IPhone 5 switched off during night (Till I slept it was working ) and in the morning it doesn’t want to open, even the alarm didn’t wake me (the entire phone was switched off), I was leaving it charging and the battery was 80% (last time I used it before I went to bed)

Plug your device into the original charger & block in a wall outlet and leave it alone for a couple of hours. Then, while it is still plugged in, restart it by holding down the home button and the power button for 10-15 seconds until you see the Apple, then let go.

  • Internet switching off at same time every night

I am a BT unlimited broadband customer (not Infinity) and for the last 6 to 7 weeks my internet connection has been switching off every night at around 8/9pm. The broadband technical helpline have managed to get me back online when I ring by different fixes each time, including reset etc. On the occasions when I don't ring them and just leave it the internet is back on again when I wake up in the morning.
I have been sent a Home Hub 3 as a replacement for my old Home Hub 1.0/1.5., placed it much nearer the telephone point and replaced all the filters. I have disconnected my wired desktop PC and have temporary loan of a laptop which I use wirelessly. But the problem persists. The broadband light remains solid blue the whole time this is happening and, weirdly, the laptop status bar says I have internet access, although I clearly haven't. Line test shows no problems.
This problem happens even when I have no computer turned on at all. I know this because my BT Vision on demand also becomes unavailable. The troubleshooter function on the BT Vision box shows I have broadband connection during this period.
It has been suggested there may be some interference somewhere. But nothing has changed in my house and I think it would be difficult to find out if it's anything nearby. Could it be something at the exchange (although I fancy there would be many more compaints if this was so)? As you can imagine, this is driving me nuts. I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

  • Battery drains while PB switched off

Several times now I've switched on my powerbook in the mornings and found the battery level is at zero.
I know for certain that when I switched off the night before it was at 100%.
    What's the matter with it?

I'm having a related problem in that I fully charge my computer in the morning, keep it asleep but unplug the power adapter, and don't use it until the evening. The battery is always drained by about 15-20% or so.
I just called Applecare and they said this is normal -- that the computer will draw power from the battery while asleep, but 15-20%?!?
    Anyone else have that problem?

  • I lost my i-phone 4s yesterday night around 7.15 p.m i am keep on trying to reach my number but still the mobile is switched off, please help me how to find it

i lost my i-phone 4s yesterday night around 7.15 p.m i am keep on trying to reach my number but still the mobile is switched off, please help me how to find it

The only way to locate any lost/stolen iPhone is through Find My Phone or a similar app. However, this requires that Find My Phone be setup/activated, on your phone, before it was lost/stolen. You would then login at iCloud.com & try to locate it. This requires the phone be turned on & have an Internet connection. There is no other way to locate a lost/stolen iPhone. Apple can't/won't help you, nor will your carrier. Report the loss to the Police, your carrier & Insurance company. Change all of your passwords.

  • I have a white screen on my iphone 3G since last night.. I tried a holding home and on/off buttons down but it won't switch off - help

I have a white screen on my iphone 3G since last night.. I tried a holding home and on/off buttons down but it won't switch off - help

Apparently, this is caused by a loose connection between the "guts" of the phone and the LCD screen. While it only displays white, the touch screen will still operate correctly - so if you know where to swipe, you can still power it off or unlock the screen, or touch to answer a call or etc.
With my phone, pinching the top right corner near the power button while pushing the home/power button to wake up the phone, seems to tighten the connection enough for it to work. I have not had to maintain the pinch after waking up the phone, but I do have to do it each time I unlock the screen. I have gotten by for about 6 months so far, and hoping the iphone 5's come out soon!!

  • Switching off (not rebooting) by slight jerks, and conking off at 40%

Hi my Z10 is switching off when I allow the phone to drop from a height of about 2-3 inches on a table.
    Device Details:
    Z-10 STL-1
    Software Release : 10.1.0.4181
    OS Version:10.1.0.4633
    Build ID : 556195
    Cryptographic Kernel Version : 5.6.2.4391
    Pin :{REMOVED}
Also in addition to this it switches off with around 40% battery.
    I have tried the following:
    1. Battery pulls (extensively with battery staying out for the whole night)]
    2. Reloading OSes - wiped it clean and reloaded the OS.
    3. Putting a business card in the back between the battery door and battery.
(It somehow doesn't switch off with jerks when on charging though)
My major problem though is not the jerks - it's the device switching off at 40% + battery.
and then It won't restart till I plug it in.

Seemingly Fixed as of now :
    1. Took out the battery and swapped another Z10's battery
    2. Put a Business card between the Battery door and the battery
    3. Loaded the OS 10.2
Working beautifully now for the last 11 hours.
I believe it is some issue with the new Release of the OS - should be fixed in the next release.

  • Switching off the Time Capsule: risk of damage?

Hello everyone. If I switch off my time capsule (1TB, recently bought) when not in use, for example at night (I think to connect it to a power strip), could I damage it? Or maybe only if the TC hard drive is running?
    Thanks

    Welcome to the discussions!
This topic has been pretty much beat to death on the forums as there has been and will remain different schools of thought on this.
One school maintains that there is a very good reason that Apple chose not to even put a power switch on the device, and that is that it was designed to run 24/7. Powering off the TC causes it to lose its connection with the local network and internet. When the device is powered back up, these connections must be re-established. Also, when any electronic device is powered up from an off state, the components within the device are subjected to a sudden rush of current. The school thinking on this is that the device will last longer if the unit is left on and subjected to less stress.
The other school says power it down when not in use to save a bit of electricity. They don't buy the theory that a sudden rush of current has any long term effect on the device and claim that the device may actually last longer because the electronic components are subjected to less heat this way over time.
Choose your school, or maybe a middle ground that would have the TC powered off for long weekends, vacations or other extended periods when the device is not needed for backups.

  • Modem and Router Switch off

Can I switch off both my Modem and Router at night, previously I was advised to keep my Router switched on 24/7 to maintain my speed, is this still the case with Infinity?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The modem on Infinity holds the connection so i would personally advise you keep the modem plugged in, the router should be fine to switch off overnight.
However, there is also a power save feature on the home hub as well.

  • Can i switch off my tc everyday when i don't use it? can this create troubleshot?

i want to switch off my time capsule every night (when i don't use my mac). Can this create troubleshot??

    Opinions vary on this.
One camp reasons that if Apple designed the product to be switched off regularly, they would have included an "Off" switch on the device, or at least a means to turn it off from your computer. None of these options exist.
The same camp believes that it is better for an electronic component to be left on rather than powered off and powered back up constantly, which places more stress on the electronic components.
It's just like the engine in your car, they reason. It gets the most stress when it starts up. Reducing the stress prolongs the life of the device, but it uses more gasoline.
The other camp believes that it makes no difference whether you power up and power down on a regular basis, and they argue that this saves gasoline (electricity) as well.
But, this same group has trouble explaining why, if the device should be powered on and off regularly, that there is no "On" or "Off" switch on the device.
It is a fact that turning off the Time Capsule will force it to lose its connection to the network. Then, it has to re-establish that connection again when it powers up. Usually, it does but the chances of connection issues increase when you do this.
It is pretty clear what Apple wants you to do. But, it's up to you to decide what you want to do. If you also power down the modem every night, then you might try powering down the Time Capsule as well. This will save some electricity.
If you start to see that the Time Capsule is losing its network connection fairly often, then maybe you only turn off the Time Capsule when you will be away for longer periods of time.

    Hello,
I had that problem as well and the apple support suggested to turn off the LTE-mode to have a running system and try to exchange the micro-sim by my provider.
    THAT was not an option!
BUT it seems to solve my problem in the following way after trying a lot of possibilties:
In the menue properties/help (don't know the exact english word, because I run my phone in german)
I switched on the nice feature 'flash LED' by incomming calls, msgs, and push infos.
Today the flash feature was responding to different push notes very slowly.
By switching this feature off the LTE-mode-tochscreen-not-responding-problem disappeared.
We tried this on a other iphone, not having the metioned problem, and switched the LED-flash:
the problem appeared. Switching the LED-flash off: problem disappeared!
It seems to be a bug that the LED will hint Calls and MSGs in combination with the LTE mode!
treated my phone very hard today to double check, but its still ok.
    @Apple:
Please fix that issue in the next update.
Hope, this helps you guys as well.

  • Lost iPhone 4, the phone is switch off, is it possible to get all data back in somehow?

I have someone stolen my iPhone 4 last night, I tried to use (find my iPhone) app to track where is it, but the thief just switch off the handset, can anyone help with this case? I have passcode for that phone, I don't think he can access the phone at the moment! I do worries he trying to sell it later. I just want to ask is there any way to get all the data back from that phone? I know I can remote control the phone to erase the data thr the app, but some data which is very important to me but I didn't backup recently! Can anyone help, please and thank you very much!

I don't think that iphone4 has find my phone app installed!
The Find My iPhone app is for locating other iOS devices.  The feature doesn't use the app but has to be activated in settings. You were given that option when setting up and activating the phone and had to decline it if t wasn't activated at that time.
both phone use the same apple ID, will it works on the iphone4 or it will show offline only in my iphone5 app?
No, tracking doesn't use the Apple ID.
