Switching open windows of the same app?

In Tiger I was able to cycle between open windows of the same application with command + minus (the < key located in the left of my spanish ISO keyboard). Now in Leopard this doesn't work, and I have to use Exposé or go to the window menu and click there which window I want.
Has this functionality been remaped to another key, or has it been removed? It was very useful for me.
Thank you.

Oh man, I was looking for the same, this new setup is impossible to use! what were they thinking? I used to rely so much on that command to switch between windows, I guess I'll have to install a 3rd party application like Witch.
I'm really thinking about going back to tiger, leopard is so full of bugs, I can't access my nas drive (worked fine with tiger) and I found so many glitches, apple has never disappointed me as much as with this release, and I've been following them since 7.1

how do I switch between windows in the same programme?  I know that I can use Command tab, however this takes you through all of the programmes that I'm using. What I need to do is have a shortcut to switch between windows in the same programme.  For example if I'm in Excel and have 5 windows open I want to be able to scroll between each window of Excel only with a shortcut.
    Please help!

Command and ~ keys to tab between open windows.
Technically it is the Grave Accent ` (aka reverse quote) under the tilda ~ key.  Tilda ~ is shifted, and Grave Accent ` is not.

  • How do i "navigate between open files" in the same app

Is there a shortcut to moving between multiple files I have open in the same app?

Command-tilde (~) will cycle you through all open windows in the active application. (This is the same key combination as recommended by Listen Inn.)
Command-tab will cycle you through open applications, from most recently opened back.
Depending on your machine and OS version, you may also be able to use F3, or squeeze the two side buttons on the Mighty Mouse to show all open windows, then click the one you want to bring it to the front.

  • Opening windows in the same window

    Hi All,
When I open any folder in linux a separate window opens I want to open it in the same window, How ca I do that??

If you want to make browser windows (the ones that don't open new windows while browsing through folders), you can, when you've opened a file browser window, do:
Edit, Preferences, tab Behavior, check 'always open in browser window'

    Hi
How can I open the same pdf multiple times (twice) in multiple (two) windows?
If i click the same pdf again after it is already open, it seems to sense that this is already open and does not open it a second time in a second window.

  • HT4689 Can we make mission control not stack the windows of the same app?

I often have multiple Word windows open and it's very hard to find the one I need when they are stacked in Mission Control. I like the fact that with a four-finger swipe you can see all the open programs, but it's not quite useful if apps are stacked (so I can't find which is which), and minimized apps apps are not shown.
In comparison, MS Windows makes it easier to locate an open program although less fancy-looking.

    Hi keclear,
If you would prefer that Mission Control not stack the open windows for each application, you may want to turn off the "Group windows by application" setting. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Anyway to have source code html, design view and CSS open windows at the same time?

    Hi all,
Is there anyway I can keep design view, source code AND css open on screen all at the same time?
Constantly clicking between source and css is really becoming irritating, would be so much easier if they were both on screen at the same time.
    Any help would be great

    You have two choices.
1 You can go to preferences>general and the very first item (in CS6) is "open document in tabs" if you deselct that then you can view your page in split view and also open up the CSS file and have it visible as well.
2 If you use tabs you can view the page in split view and open the CSS file and then detach the css from the tab and it will be an idependent item. You detach it by highlighting the tab and then dragging it down.
It helps to have a large screen, and better still to have more than one screen, you can put the css on the other screen.

  • How can I make different windows of the same application I have open remain on their respective desktops/spaces after reboot?

    Hi all,
I use the same applications for work, entertainment and other personal activities, so it's impossible to simply assign different apps to different desktops/spaces. Thus, I have open windows of the same programs (Pages, TextEdit, Preview) arranged on several desktops. If I reboot my laptop, the windows are just crammed on Desktop 1. Can something be done about it?

    Barney,
many thanks for your efforts and your time (preparing and posting the screenshot, answering to this question,...).
Unfortunately, moving the focus to the next window only works with windows on the same desktop.
btw, using a german keyboard layout and german language settings the shortcut is "cmd+<".
I can switch with this shortcut between different windows of my Safari which reside on the same desktop, but I cannot swith between different safari windows distributed over several desktops.
    Thanks,

  • How to switch between 2 windows of the same application using Cmd+Tab

    Hi,
I am using my mac now since about 10 months. I was used to work with Linux and Windows XP.
Something I am badly missing on mac os x is the possibility to switch between 2 windows of the same application using cmd + tab just like it simply works for Linux and Windows (and maybe many other OS out there!).
Very often I have 2 text files open in 2 editor windows (e.g. TextEdit) and need to copy and paste text from one window to the other. I was used to simply use ALT+TAB. But here I have to get my right hand away from the keyboard and use the mouse to change the focus from one window to the other and then use the mouse again to get the focus back to the previous TextEdit windows.
THIS REALLY *****!!!! It makes me crazy. I cannot believe that such a "modern" OP does not support this action. I must be doing something completely wrong or did not understand the mac correctly. Right?
Does anyone have an idea how I can get mac to do something all other operating systems so easily do?
    Thanks

    Hi Kappy,
well what you are saying is obvious to me. This is not the point for me and not what I wanted to know. But I think you answered my question anyway: OS X is unable to switch between windows of the same application as I mentioned in my example.
    WHY NOT???
Every other OS is able to differentiate between windows and not just applications.
Another example: The Mail application and an Email editor window. When you are writing an Email and you want to switch to the main window of the Mail application to read something you must again use the mouse!
I mean Apple seems to be "somehow" using FreeBSD in the background and even in FreeBSD's window manager it is possible to switch between windows of the same application.
Well, in the Apple world it is always the pour user who is not intelligent enough to understand Apple's philosophy ;-(
To me this is not modern, it is simply a weakness of the OS.

  • Quickly switch windows of the same application

    Hello,
when I have a lot of applications open, I can use Command-Tab to quickly switch between applications and this is working great. I am looking for a similar functionality to quickly switch between windows of the same application. For example, I have 10 Safari windows open. I am looking for a keyboard shortcut to switch between all open windows of Safari (like you can do with Command-Tab for applications).
I know I can use Expose but this is not convenient. I also can do "click and hold" the application icon to do Expose just on the specific application but if you have a lot of windows open, it is not easy to find the one you are looking for. A keyboard shortcut to loop through open windows in an application would be better.
    Any idea?

It depends upon the application. But command-tilde will move you to the next window and command-shift-tilde will move you back in many applications (including Safari).

  • Can Pages display two windows of the same document?

Can Pages display two open windows of the same document? In editing my book and looking for duplications of stories or material, it would be very helpful to see side-by-side windows. Is this possible?

    Peggy
    They must have misread your:
"Please may I have multiple views of the same document."
    as
"Please delete 90 features from Pages and mangle any old documents it opens."
An easy mistake anybody could make.
