Switching Out MP3s from CD

I got two CDs worth of MP3s for Christmas, but was unable to download them all onto my iPod. I want to delete the files I have on there now, and download all the ones I couldn't get on there. How do I do this?

You need to Rip the CD into iTunes before doing the sync with your iPod.
Choose the songs that you want to copy into iTunes (check the box of the song)

    It is not necessary to delete your old wireless networks first, but doing so may eliminate confusion. If you wish to do that, open System Preferences > Network, and select Wi-Fi from the left column. Click the Advanced... button, then select your old wireless networks and delete them with the "–" (minus) button. Make sure the "Remember networks this computer has joined" remains checked.
    OK then Apply.
    This prevents your Mac from searching for your previous network which will no longer exist.
    A new Express creates an open wireless network that you must select before you can configure it. It appears in your Wi-Fi menu like this:
    Select it. AirPort Utility will load and walk you through its configuration.
    Edit: If you are really using OS X 10.5.1 as shown in your profile, the above screenshot is not applicable. Instead, select the network called "Apple network nnnnnn" and then launch AirPort Utility.

    it will backup your Libary file, which contains all of your playlists and what not. Good luck ^.^

    Firefox will reload a page and reposition at the top if the copy in the cache has expired. However, that shouldn't happen right away.
    When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
    Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
    Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
    orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
    On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
    If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

    Cursor moves by itself, types by itself, opens dashboard by itself, stops responding to keysto22000 - there be a good example. Seems to like the number 2. Have switched out keyboards to no avail. Do not use wireless. Does not start immediately upon turning on computer. Everything is okay from 10 to 20 minutes, then bang. Can deattach then attach keyboard and get a few moments of quiet. All this started today.

    If the same erratic behavior occurs when the external KB and mouse are completely disconnected, I think it's time for a Genius Bar appointment to have the problem diagnosed.

    You'll probably want to get the machine revved up ahead of time so it's misbehaving when you walk in the door, rather than count on it to act up — or not — after you and the Genius have been standing around waiting for a while. (BTW, I'm assuming that once it starts acting up, it continues to do so until you give up and shut it down. Is that true?)

  • How do I add and remove mp3s from my iPhone?

    I've forgotten again how to add and remove mp3s from my iPhone.  Can someone please remind me?  I am an iTunes subscriber using a PC running Windows 7 and iTunes 11.1.

    Make sure you have iTunes 11.1.1 installed on your computer.
    Plug your iPhone into your computer.
    Open iTunes. Create a new Playlist and name it whatever you want. I use iPhone Sync.
    Go to your Music Library, click and drag the music you want into your new Playlist.
    Click on your iPhone along the top right. Click on Music and select Sync Music and choose just the new Playlist.
    Click on the Sync button on the bottom right of the iTunes screen.

    I posted this on another thread. See if this works:
    1) Uncheck "Backup previous version" in Keynote's Preferences.
    2) Make a duplicate copy of your file that has issues and save it.
    3) If you still get spinning wheels from switching between apps after editing or 10 seconds of inactivity, manually save with command+s. It may beach ball here but be patient and wait for it to finish! Try editing and resume doing work now.
    Command+s may be a bit slow but I think that might be normal since the files are so big.
    Good luck and let me know if this works.

  • Sound changes when moving mp3 from quicktime to itunes

    When I move a mp3 from quicktime to itunes the sound changes. itunes makes it sound a little worse from the original mix. I dont think its the equalizer becuase i tried fooling around with that and tuning it off for a better result.
    So the mp3 sounds perfect in quicktime but terrible in itunes whats my problem?

    I figured out that if i bring it into itunes as mp4 instead of mp3 it sounds alright.
    So you are not moving the MP3 from QT to iTunes as you wrote in your first post. You are converting from AAC to MP3.
    i tried to burn it and i think it automatically converts it back to mp3 for the burn
    No.
    If you have audio CD selected in iTunes prefs -> Advanced - Burning, it will convert them to an audio CD.
    It willnot convert any other time unless you tell it to convert.
    is there a way to burn it while maintaining the mp4 quality??
    Select Audio CD or Data CD and it will burn an audio file or the MP4 file.

  • 5th Gen Ipod classic Harddrive switch out (exchange)

    I switched out a perfectly working 30 gig harddrive (with all my coveted music on it) into another good working 5th gen Ipod I bought for this very purpose. Reason being was that my ' coveted music' ipod stopped giving out sound. My coveted music ipod harddrive was playing and working properly right up until I made the switch. Now everything is ready to go and it turns on etc. except the display is asking me to now 'connect to my computer and use I tunes to restore !!'  Did I lose all my songs ??I even played the no sound ipod before I made the switch just to make sure songs were there and the hardrdrive was functional which is was. I don't want to restore until I exhaust all avenues to bring back my music. Shouldn't my music still be on the harddrive ? I did not format it, just made a switch over. Any help ? Thanks

    The 5th gen iPod "video" had different versions of its logic board, so the second one you transplanted the hard drive into may have a different logic board version.  Therefore, the hard drive itself is compatible, but maybe not the iPod's software (or other aspect of its data) on that hard drive.  That may be why the iPod is asking you to do a Restore (which will erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings).
    If you did not do a Restore, the your song files are probably still there.  Instead of trying to preserve it on an iPod, which is risky because an iPod can become lost, broken, or in need of a Restore, you should offload your songs onto your computer's drive, and add everything to your iTunes library.
    You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer, except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store.  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.  (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
    Once the song files are on your computer's drive, add them to your iTunes library.  After confirming everything is there, do the Restore on the iPod and sync it to that library.  Going forward, keep a copy of ALL of your songs in your iTunes library.  (Don't trust an iPod with your only copy of songs.)

  • I've been adding MP3s from LPs, and there's a lot of stopping

    I've been adding a lot of MP3s from LPs, and there's a lot of stopping & starting due to the old records having scratches.  Once I finally get each song to transfer over succesfully to itunes, the album tracks are all out of order.  Is there a way to reorder the album tracks?  I don't want to create a separate Playlist for every album, if it can be avoided.

    Samp Huck,
    If your conversion program is not correctly populating the track data, you can do it yourself in iTunes.  Right-click, Get Info, go to the Info tab, and fill in the Track number.

  • Encode an mp3 from a flac file

    i like flac...but mp3 seems to be the most commonly used format (ogg is a closing second)
    all the songs on my system are in flac (thanks to the recomendation of a fellow archlinux user from #archlinux)
    now to make an mp3 from those files
    :: ahem ::
    fSlash='/'
    function notAForwardSlash
    if [[ $1 != $fSlash ]]
    then
    return 0
    else
    return 1
    fi
    ### end notAForwardSlash ###
    function getFileName
    STRING="${1}"
    LENGTH=${#STRING}
    # echo "${STRING}: is ${LENGTH} long"
    for ((n=0;n <= $LENGTH; n++))
    do
    CHAR=${STRING:$n:1}
    if notAForwardSlash $CHAR
    then
    FileName="${FileName}${CHAR}"
    else
    FileName=""
    fi
    # echo "${FileName}"
    done
    ### end getFileName ###
    # call like
    # encode_mp3 "/music/flac/Smile Empty Soul/Shadow Zone/Monster.flac" "/music/mp3/Smile Empty Soul/Shadow Zone"
    function encode_mp3
    old_file="${1}"
    new_dir="${2}"
    getFileName "${old_file}"
    new_file="${FileName:0:${#FileName}-5}.mp3"
    # this is the important part of this script
    # the actual encoding
    # the rest is just stuff to make it easier and less tedious
    flac -d -o - "${old_file}" | lame -b 320 -h - > "${new_dir}/${new_file}"
    i wrote more about this here
    you can see this inside my whole script here
    hope this helps someone out there

    It's even more simple, install gst-plugins-flac and gst-plugins-lame and then use this:
    gst-launch filesrc location=music.flac ! decodebin ! lame ! filesink location=music.mp3

  • Can I switch out my macbook hard drive to another same year/size?

    Hi everyone. I have been active on here years ago but I have an issue that I wanted to get some information on.
    I have a very old 2006 Macbook pro (A1211) very stock. Nothing was really changed.
    Over the years, certain keys quit working, the dvd drive quit working and finally the monitor gave out. It's obviously too much to repair but I have a lot of old files and photos (backed up, but still..) and applications I'd like to keep using.
    My question is this: Can I buy the same body/size/computer (it's the late 2006 with the 2.16 core 2 duo) and just simply switch out the hard drive from my old one to this other machine that has the same specs?
    Will I still be able to use the same applications, etc?
    Also, would that hard drive work as it has on my other machine? Are there any glitches that I would have to work out? And finally, would that same hard drive work in a machine that has a 2.33 core 2 duo rather than the 2.16 core duo?
    Sorry for all the questions..I used to be fairly well versed with macs but I'm quite out of the knowledge loop these days. I do have a newer machine but I really would like to preserve this drive, the applications, etc.
    Thanks in advance for any info someone could give.

    Don,
    The easiest way to do this would be for you to buy an external enclosure, then remove your hard drive and put it into the enclosure. You can then buy any Mac you want and either copy the files over manually or use Migration Assistant to move it all to the new machine. That way you don't have to worry about compatibility and such.
