Switching Phone Providers Back.

Hi, My Dad is 86 and Verizon was provideing the phone in his home. However, he somehow got switched over to a service called Full Service Network, that is now apparenlty providing his service on the Verizon lines.  I'm sure that it was something that he signed up for over the phone or something but he doesn't remember how it happened.   His bills are not consistent and vary in amounts.  I want to switch him back to Verizon, as he was before.  I have not looked into this very closely yet but just had a couple of questions that I  can think of right away, if anyone can answer.  1. Will there be a penalty from the FSN people for him switching back over to Verizon?  2.  Will he be able to keep the same phone number that he has now?  (He is quite worried about this.)
I plan on looking into it further on the FSN site and actually looking at his bills but haven't yet.  Just wanted to see if I could get some replies on this for now.
Thanks.

Welcome to the forums.  You're talking to other customers here.  Verizon should be able to reclaim you Dad's line and number, but you'll have to call them to find out for sure.
To get information about "FSNs" policies, you'll need to contact them and/or read any material you have from them.
Good Luck.

  • Wifi won't stay connected after switching phone off and back on

This does not seem to be the apparently common problem of either dropping wi-fi signal OR losing wi-fi after the phone sleeps.
I have a 3GS. My wi-fi works fine all day while I'm around the house even with multiple sleep events. However, when I switch off my phone at night and then turn it back on again the next morning, the phone stays on 3G. If I go to the wi-fi settings, it shoes wi-fi is "on" and I can select my network and it will join it right away. It just doesn't rejoin automatically.
I am not certain about this, but I think this problem may have only started when I recently switched on the "ask to join networks" setting. I have tried turning this off but still the problem remains.
My wife's 3GS and my son's 4 both stay connected after a switch off and back on, and we are all using the same network.
If anyone has any suggestions I would be most appreciative. With three of us now sharing the cell data plan we are getting very close to the limit each month and want to maximize wi-fi usage.
    Thanks.

Launch iTunes. From the menu bar click Store / View My Account
    Click: Edit Payment Information
Make sure you have the correct Security Code.
    Then click: Done
And try resetting your Apple ID password.  https://iforgot.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/DSiForgot.woa/wa

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then was new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • Switching phones and activation fees

    Hi everyone,
I bought a new phone off e_bay (LG voyager vx10000) to replace my current phone. I realize I can switch and activate the new phone from the Verizon website but my question is.....when I activate my new phone will I still be able to use my old phone as a back-up? Also will I be charged an activation fee? I do not want to upgrade to smartphone or renew my contract. I am currently in a month-to-month contract and I would like to keep it that way.
I have done this process before but I never wanted to keep my old phone because it was always broke.Another thing I remember from when I done this in the past is Verizon asks you why you are switching your phone. Why do they ask this? Is it just like a poll type thing so they know why most people are switching phones? or is it to tell whether they need to charge you an activation fee? Does answering that poll (or whatever you want to call it) gonna affect whether I get charged an activation fee or if my old phone gets a bad esn or something like that? Also my reason for getting a new phone is because my old one is very out dated and want something a little more modern but no required data plan. My old phone still works good which is why I want to keep it as a back-up.
Hopefully you were able to follow along...I don't really want to call or go to the store I would rather activate online and soon.
I bolded the questions so it is easier to refer back to and find =)

There is no activation fee for activating a different phone on an existing line.  You only pay an activation fee when you start a new line of service.
As to the survey, I've never been prompted to answer any questions like that when switching phones.  The only reason you would not be able to use your old phone as a backup is if you report it to Verizon as lost or stolen, or fall behind on your payments while that phone is on your account.  If the phone is listed as lost, stolen, or tied to an unpaid account, it is placed on a blacklist and cannot be activated on any Verizon account.
You can either use the online tool, or just turn off your old phone and then dial *228 and choose option 1 from the new phone.

  • Is there a way to get phone numbers back on my iphone / or excel sheet?

Is there a way to get phone numbers back on my iphone / or excel sheet?
    What I've done:
I've upgraded my iphone from 2.0 to 2.1. To be able to do this I've upgraded to the latest iTunes and switched my USB port several times until it was finaly installed. Then, despite iTunes taking 3 hours time for making backups, I found my phone to be completely empty when it was finished. So, I tried to restored the phone. This gave an error 1602 and bricked my phone. Tried it all over again two times more with same results.
The bottom line is that I have an empty phone and I really would like to have my phone numbers back. There's some 1.02 GB of backup information in the apple directory, so I guess they must be something there. But how do I know which file I need and how to decode it?

Your contacts should still be on whatever program you sync your iphone to (i.e. Outlook, address book).
The iphone is not a stand alone device. It is designed to be synced with a computer. If you have not been syncing with a compatible program, then you are out of luck. Your contacts are not included in the back-up because it is meant to be synced with your computer.
"Although iTunes backs up most of your iPhone and iPod touch settings, downloaded applications, and other information (Contacts, calendars, notes, images in the Camera Roll), your audio, video, and photo content are not included in the backup."

How can I find my email in Apple Mail from before my company switched hosting providers?  People with Outlook in my company have all of their old and new emails.  My old emails have vanished from my Apple Mailbox on my macbook and other Apple devices.  I do not have my mail backed up in time machine recently nor did I export my emailbox recently.  Any ideas?

Try looking in your User folder.
Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Mail/V2
If you prefer to make your User library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I have to use it again after every update. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

If you have not done a factory reset on the device, I recommend doing a complete  factory reset.
Factory Reset  - Warning this will reset device back to original factory settings.
This method will not erase any MDN/MIN information
    Turn off the phone
Press Power + Volume Up/Down at the same time and hold until display will show a triage android screen
    Display will show:
    Reboot system Now
    Apply sdcard:update.zip
    Wipe Data/Factory Reset
    Wipe Cache Partition
Use VOL Down key to scroll down to "Wipe Data/Factory Reset", press home icon to select option and wipe device.
Display shows "All user data will be wiped out", press VOLUME Up to continue or VOLUME Down to exit.
    Press Volume Up
Press Home to select "Reset System Now" - device will reboot
If the problem persist I recommend having a store technician take a look at the device.
Copy and paste the link below into your browser's address bar for the store locator.

  • Switching Phones.. And Apps..

Lets say my phone was damaged and I had another Verizon phone that I could use temporarily. Could I activate it online , use it, and would it change my  2 free every date or would stay the same? Also would I have to eventually switch back to my original phone or could I use the replacement phone for the length of the contract..What are the exact rules that govern this type of behavior? I have been a Virgin Mobile customer for as long as I have been with Verizon 6+ years and I like the ability to switch phones when  I WANT to without penalty as long as  am willing to incur the cost of the phone....
Also..any hopes of ever getting any more apps (besides Droid/blackberry)...especially of the free variety on verizon..I have the same apps on my current Virgin Phone and you would think that Verizon would be a step above, and I really dont need a smartphone.

I have iPhone 4s, wife has iphone 4. She works, I am retired. She needs Siri. How can we switch phones and get all data, contacts, calendars, etc to switch correctly?

First make sure both iPhones are using the lastest iOS 5.1.1. Secondly make sure all of your data is backed up in separate iCloud accounts one for each user. Make sure that you are all of the options in iCloud are on. Then you have to switch the sim cards.

This page will take you though the steps of backing up data and then restoring the data on both iPhones. Make sure to read everything before you start the process it is fairly straight forward.

You can use iTunes to restore or the iCloud option. I find that iCloud is much easier to setup but it requires wifi.

  • Switched phones. What happens to the stolen one?

I switched phones for the time being. What happens to the stolen one? will it still work with the Find my iphone app? Or will is not work since is is not activated? It was previously suspended until I switched to an old phone. Is this phone still suspended or was it the account that was suspended?

No. It's on the automatic "Standard Exclusion" list, along with various system caches, workfiles, system logs, etc

    Yes.
I may be wrong, but TM wont let you select something unavailable for back up while you're using the "exclude" preference. Unavailable items are grayed out.
Only TM volumes and volumes not formatted OSX Extended are shown that way.
You do have to click show invisible items but the .trash file can be manually selected for exclusion. That seems a fair indicator that by default TM is backing up your trash.
No. Previous System folder, most system caches, swap files, logs, etc., are automatically excluded.
