Switching SIM from 4GB to 8GB iPhone?

Can I switch from my 4GB iPhone to a 8GB iPhone without having to pay for a new contract (even if it leaves the 4GB unusable)? Can I just put the SIM card into the 8GB? Anyone have any success doing this?

Yes you can, you just have to activate the new phone by inserting the sim and then sync it with iTunes
And your old phone is not going to be unusable, the only thing that will not work is the phone features

  • Went from 4gb to 8gb iPhone - how can someone else reactivate 4gb one?

    Hello,
I own a 4gb iPhone and I recently bought a 8gb iPhone model. I activated the 8gb one and transfered my phone number to it. The question: what do I do to re-activate old 4gb one with a new number? My wife decided that she'd love to have to one.
As a bonus, it'd be nice if I could go back to 4gb model and give her the 8gb one since her iTunes library is much larger, but I'm not sure if that's possible at this point being that I've already activated 8gb one.
Thank you very much for any tips on this one. I've read all docs, but couldn't find much.

    archivist08,
Get a new SIM card from AT&T, as long as the iPhone hasn't been blocked by AT&T from being reported as stolen. Restore the iPhone without the SIM card in, and then insert the new SIM card and activate.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Move SIM from 4gb to 8gb model

    Hi all,
I was wondering if you can take a SIM from an activated 4GB phone and move it to an unactivated 8GB phone. Then I will activate the 4GB phone with the new SIM from the 8GB under a new phone number. Basically I want to keep my number/account and just move my SIM to a larger capacity phone. Think this will work?
    Thanks!

    Bump...
I just did this. I gave my old 4GB to my girlfriend and just popped my SIM in the new 8GB. I had to Activate and go through the sam estuff as I did on the 4GB. Nothing changed on my AT&T account though.

  • Can I upgrade my RAM from 4GB to 8GB for my MacBook Pro 13(early 2011 2.7GHz)? And how much would it be?

Can I upgrade my RAM from 4GB to 8GB for my MacBook Pro 13(early 2011 2.7GHz)? And how much would it be?

you can upgrade to 16GB if you wish to do so...
average price for 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 is around $50 - $75 depending on the brand.
why not spend $100 and go with 16GB 1333MHz from Crucial or Corsair.
you can get them from Amazon.com or newegg.com
see image below with 16GB Patriot Mac Series 1333MHz for $100.

  • I want to upgrade my ram from 4GBs to 8GBs, can you help me?

    Dear Apple company,
I have a Macbook 5,4, but I want to upgrade its RAM from 4GBS to 8GBs, can you help me this quest?
                                                                                                                     Thanks,

This is a customer forum, and not Apple folks.  If you wish official or formal Apple assistance, please call Apple directly or visit your local Apple store, or check directly with an Apple reseller.
I don't immediately see a MacBook5,4 around, but I do see a Apple MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.53 GHz 15" model MC118LL/A Mid-2009, and that configuration does reportedly support up to 8 GB of memory per the Apple Specs.
Apple might not stock or offer memory upgrades that far back (but do ask them), though I'd expect various third-party memory providers will likely still have some 4 GB 1066 MHz SO-DIMM DDR3 memory sticks around.
But if yours is really a MacBook5,4 model here — the closest I can find is a MacBook5,2 — then ignore this.

  • Can I upgrade the ram memory of my Macbook air from 4gb to 8gb?

Anybody knows if I can upgrade the ram memory of a Macbook Air from 4gb to 8gb?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The memory in the MacBook Air is soldered onto the logic board, so you can't upgrade RAM after buying your computer. It's important to buy your MacBook Air with the amount of memory you will use because you won't be able to install more RAM

  • Will increasing the memory from 4Gb to 8Gb make a big difference to the speed of my Intel Core Duo 2 Mac mini?

Will increasing the memory from 4Gb to 8Gb make a big difference to the speed of my Intel Core Duo 2 Mac mini?

Well, technically no, CPU will remain the same speed. But having 8 gig will give you some room for memory hungry apps and run better with multiple apps.
Adding a SSD drive will give a second life to your macmini. I did mine a few weeks ago (240 gb SSD ) and also went from 2 to 4 gig ram. It's like having a new computer!
    Good luck!

  • Im planning to upgrade my MBP late 2011's ram from 4gb to 8gb. Is there any specific brand of ram that i should buy or i can buy any brand that suits my MBP.

im planning to upgrade my MBP late 2011's ram from 4gb to 8gb. Is there any specific brand of ram that i should buy or i can buy any brand that suits my MBP? im aware of all the details that i need to consider pc3 - 10600 1333MHz 4gb. i just want to know is there any specific brand or i can use any brand,
    Thank you.

The most reliable sources for Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.  Macs seem to be selective with RAM so some brands will not work. Make certain that you get RAM with the exact specifications that apply to your MBP.
    Ciao.
If you have a need, be advised that you MBP can actually support 16 GB RAM.

  • Upgrading 4GB to 8GB iPhone 1.0

Need Guidance.. I have 4GB iPhone 1.0 and I want to change it to 8GB (1.0). what step i need to do?
    1. I switch it do i need to move the My SIM card first to the new one, and sync it on iTunes.
    2. Use the new SIM card when I Sync to iTunes and type my number when prompted..

sorry, I thought you meant you would take your sim card from your old iphone & move it to the new iphone, sync on itunes, enter ph# if necessary etc. You shouldn't need to use a brand new sim card

  • Which is better 4Gb or 8Gb iPhone?

I bought the 4Gb iPhone and I am having second thoughts about it. I am thinking about exchanging it for the 8Gb. Any suggestions?
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

If you can afford it buy the larger one. However, this really depends on what you want to carry on the phone. Certainly if you have more space, you can carry more things with you.
With iPods etc, I have always bought the lower capacity ones because my music collection exceeds even the largest capacity iPod. However, in the case of the iPhone, I'm carry more movies and pictures, and music. As a result of more integrated stuff, I'm using more space - only 200mb free.

  • 4GB vs 8GB iPhone for old geezer

I'm thinking of getting a 4GB iPhone (I've never had a cell phone) and I would be interested in any opinions vs the 8GB phone.
My thinking is that I have all my music on my 15GB 3rd generation iPod and wouldn't be moving much of it to the iPhone. Also, I wouldn't ever be watching movies, etc.
So for $100 savings I'm looking at the 4GB model. I've been told there would be no difference in speed of operation; is that correct?
    Thanks for any information.

The only difference between the two is storage capacity but your interests might change down the road and with storage capacity, it is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it - especially with "only" $100 more for double the capacity.
Regarding your music, the iPhone can take the place of your iPod so you don't need to carry two devices and once you use that gorgeous screen, you may end up placing a movie or two or TV show on your iPhone. When I demonstrate the iPhone's video feature for a friend, the comment is always wow. The iPhone is also great for storing and viewing photos.
If your are confident about never using the iPhone for video nor for most or all of your music, the 4GB should be fine.

  • Switch sim from verizon phone to unlocked phone?

My fiancé was charging his phone. When he went to look at the time the screen was black and cracked. So I want to switch the sim card from the Samsung galaxy S4 to an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S3. Is this possible?

It needs to be a Verizon Wireless branded device to work on the Verizon Wireless network.

  • Upgrading Unibody from 4Gb to 8Gb

I was debating whether there is significant performance when upgrading unibody macbook pro to 6gb or 6gb from original 4gb? Thanks.

Depends. Are you running short on RAM? Does the computer frequently beachball when switching applications or during normal use? What do you see reported by Activity Monitor?

  • Is there a point to upgrade from 4GB to 8GB?

    Hi
I have a MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz with 4GB memory (2010).
I want to upgrade my hard drive from 250(5400rpm) to a 500GB or bigger (7200rpm).
So I'm thinking since I'm already upgrading, should I get more memory?
I find it sluggish at times, but I've been blaming the hard drive for the most part.
But I'm wondering if doubling my memory would make an even bigger impact on the performance?
I will be doing some Final Cut at some point and video converting, so I'm wondering if the extra memory would be worth it?
*Yes I know it's a small machine for Final Cut. But I had a Mac Pro until I quite my job, so buying it I never thought I would need more power :-S
Anyway, let me know what you think. Thanks.

I would recommend getting a solid state drive rather than a faster hard drive, that would make a far greater difference than upgrading from a 5400RPM HDD to one that spins at 7200RPM and either replace your optical drive with a second hard drive or using an external drive for non-essential storeage. I'd also upgrade the RAM because 2x4GB of DDR3-1066 RAM is super cheap right now, I added 8GB of RAM from Crucial to my 2008 MacBook Unibody for around $80.
