My phone (LG Enlighten) has been messing up here and there, and I've been wanting an iPhone anyways. However the upgrade is not due until next year. My boyfriend has a iPhone 4s under Sprint or AT&T, one of the two, and he is getting a new one soon. Without upgrading anything, would I be able to switch phones?

You should be able to. Just make sure that your paperwork and plan on their screen still shows the plan as how you have it now. Don't leave the store without it correct.
You can also activate the phone through your MyVerizon account online without needing to go to the store.
One additional word of warning, if you have any saved voicemails they will be deleted when you activate the iPhone. The iPhone uses a different voicemail system and you will need to set it up again.

If Sprint's system works the same as Verizon's, your old voicemail account is deleted when you switch to an iPhone. That includes any saved voicemails. You may be able to send them, from within the voicemail system, to someone else. Verizon also works with another vendor which will archive your messages for you. Check with Sprint to see if they do something similar.

The reason i ask this is , if you are able to switch a phone off from a locked screen , it defeats the purpose of using the I cloud to track your stolen phone. Atleast if switching off is passcode protected, then you have time to track the phone, erase content etc till the battery runs out.

Thinking of switching to an iPhone from Verizon

Okay... so, I see iPhone 4 is coming out in a couple weeks... I can wait 'cuz I am still in the process of making the big decision to get web-access on a phone, etc.
But, my question is, is it better for me to buy iPhone from an Apple store or online and then go with it to AT&T to get my service on it? Or, is it the same or better to go to AT&T directly and just do a bundle there? And, I can't remember... but, it seems that Costco carries the AT&T line of cellular providers, which usually means you get some accessories for free when you sign up.
So, what are the benefits of each of the three options above? Please help!

Deferred switching-on of iPhone 3G

iPhone 3G, OS 3.1, 16GB, 2.45 GB free space.
It happens frequently when I want to switch-on my iPhone from stand by mode that the soft switch glider does not move at all for up to 4 - 6 seconds. Sometimes I am also losing calls, because the switch does not react for this time span.
It does not happen when I put the phone in stand by and wait only a few minutes to reactivate it. But after a while the problem comes mostly (not always) again.
I have reinstalled completely the iPhone. The problem seemed to have vanished for some days. Now it is back again.

We've seen the occasional 'odd' or 'unexpected' thing, and as soon as we do, we do a 'reset' (press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together until the Apple logo appears and then releasing both buttons together and then waiting for the iPhone to restart) which has resolved 100% of such issues for us.
There appear to be several/many causes (although fewer since the 3-series updates) including Apps that are not 'well-behaved', e-mail-server induced problems and various carrier-related 'issues', all of them not directly 'iPhone' but related to its use. The frequency of the need to do resets appears to have reduced but we still make it part of a regular monthly 'maintenance' cycle.

okay from reading posts it seems if I transfer my backed up info from my old comp to the new one and erase my dad's phone's back up i could reset my phone and it would transfer all my old data back onto the phone, be linked to the new computer and i could proceed. Switching iPhone from Windows based computer to Apple

Could one switch an iPhone from a Windows XP computer to an Apple seamlessly, or are you stuck with whichever system you initially sync up with? I will be getting my iPhone 3GS on the 19th, and shortly thereafter (not sure of the timeframe) I will be in a position to purchase a new laptop. I'm contemplating getting a Macbook and I'd like the option of syncing up on either the Windows desktop or the Macbook at my convenience.

I got an MBP, plugged in my phone, it transferred some purchased stuff, kept all my settings and such, basically it was just the iPod functionality that changed; I had to put my iTunes library on my new computer and resync the songs/videos/etc. That's about it.
All of my apps and email and other phone specific settings were left alone.
It may be worth noting that I was syncing with Exchange over the air, so my Mail was not synced through iTunes. Your mileage may vary.

Hey! My iPhone 4S is rapidly switching back and forth from wifi to 4G. It will remain connected to wifi for about 10 seconds and switch to 4G for half a second. Then the cycle repeats. It's definitely been a drain on my battery. I've already switched wifi off and on, reset network connections on the phone, and rebooted my wifi and router. None of these have helped. When wifi is off, the 4G works fine. The wifi works in other locations, but my home network is not working. However, all other wireless devices in my home are working fine. Seems like a problem between my phone and the wifi.

Everything you've mentioned points to an issue with the home Wi-Fi.
Try forgetting the connection in Settings > Wi-Fi.
Restart the device and then connect to the Wi-Fi.

- How did you delete it? If you used Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Settings without the iPod being charged you could have completely drained the battery.

Do you just want to delete the music or wipe the whole phone since you've switched to the other one?
If you plug the old iPhone into your computer you can remove stuff via iTunes or remove stuff directly from the iPhone too.

If you have a smartphone data plan it wouln't change it. Otherwise it would force you to choose a smartphone plan. But why don't you just call AT&T and ask? And why do you want to use your old SIM? You can just activate the iPhone with its SIM if the phone is new, and if it's used AT&T will give you a new SIM. Either way you will keep the same number.

I'm guessing that you turned off the iPhone 5? If so, then are you using the same phone number as the 5? You need to go into Settings>Messages>make sure that iMessage is turned on and activated. Then go the Send & Receive and find out if your current number is checked.

Switching to MacBook Pro from Windows (finally!) - Help with iPad & iPhone Sync

I will this week be switching my computing life from a Dell notebook to a MacBook Pro. I am elated, of course. One of my - few - concerns, however, is iTunes. What is the best way to sync my iPhone & iPad (which, until now have been synced to and managed by my Dell) without losing all content (music including playlists, contacts, pictures, etc.)? Is there a way to perform a backup and then move the backup file before I sync on the MacBook pro?

If you used iTunes on your Dell, then all you have to do is replace the iTunes folder on your Mac with the iTunes folder from your Windows. You should do this before starting iTunes on your Mac for the first time. Then, when you open up iTunes after replacing the folder with all your content, your iTunes will just treat it as if you've always had the same content. This is what I did before, except I had to reinstall my Mac OS, so I just copied the Mac iTunes folder, but on Windows it has the same file name, in the music section, I think.

Yes. You might be able to follow the steps listed and do it on your own (just make sure when it gets to the point in iTunes to add your info you add your phone number). If you run into trouble or would rather make sure it is done right you can contact Verizon or go to the store and have them activate it on your line.
