Switching to AT&T with family plan -- need multiple iPhone 4's

We are currently Verizon customers coming to AT&T for the iPhone 4. We want to get three iPhone 4's, along with another regular phone, and put them on a family plan. My son lives 4 hours away, and won't be able to come to the local AT&T store on June 24 to get a phone.
Because of the limit of one per customer, can my husband and I each pre-order a phone and then still buy an additional iPhone 4 for my son at the AT&T store on June 24?
Could my son pre-order an iPhone 4 and have it shipped to my address for me to have activated with the other phones? He is not planning to transfer his number, the rest of us on the plan are.
Since he's not porting his old number, could he pre-order and have the phone shipped to him and then add it to our family plan once we've activated our new phones? Or do all the phones on the plan have to be activated at the same time and place?
Any information would be appreciated -- thanks!

AT&T has a whole upgrade and new account guide on its website. Looks like new accounts can order one per person in line but only one per account online. Existing accounts can order one new iPhone per line (numbers with AT&T accounts). Nothing has been released about Apple's pre order policy.

  • Not Allowed to upgrade to Family Plan and get Iphone?

I have a single line right now, and I attempted to go through my account and "upgrade to a family plan," but when I get to the page where you select the new phone for your second line.  The Iphone is nowhere to be found!  It allows me to process any other phone with the upgrade to a Family Plan, except the Iphone.  When you click the link on the front page to "buy it" it takes you to a whole new set up that only allows you to add an additional line, but no option to add it to a family plan.  Is verizon not allowing upgrades to family plans and adding a line with the Iphone?  Or will I have to brave the store lines to get this done?

I would go to a store, I think it's just where they have the iphone in a link by itself right now instead of with all the other phones, I would almost be sure you can do this in store without a problem at all. Some people are saying there are actually no lines at stores they've been at so you may get lucky and not have a line at your local verizon store.

  • Is it possible to switch the contract on a family plan line to another line?

    Hi,
Sorry for the rough title. I'm on a family plan with four lines, and still have a contract lasting until october. However, two other lines on my family plan are on a month-to-month plan (contracts expired, still using the same phones after 4 years). I'm trying to switch to another carrier due to lack of financial resources, one that starts with a "T" to be exact. So I was wondering if it was possible to move what's left of my contract to a number which is planning to stay on the plan, so I can keep my number when I switch? Keeping my number isn't a must, but I'd definitely appreciate it. If anyone knows about this, I'd be extremely grateful to find out. Thanks
    -Alex

        Hi alex_riordan.
I can certainly understand the need to save money, but we don't want to see you go anywhere for that to happen. It's true that each line has it's own individual contract and that contract cannot be switched to a different line of service. Have you had an opportunity to check out our Wireless Account Analysis http://bit.ly/vnLjqO to see if there's a way for you and your family to save money by staying with our great coverage? Many are finding the new plans can really save, especially with 4 lines on your account. You can also visit www.vzw.com/discount to see if your employer offers one of our great employee discounts. We would love for you and your family to stay with us after all these fantastic years together.

  • Trying to get iPhone with Family Plan.

I currently am on a family plan, and would like to get the new iPhone, if I add another line and get the iPhone will I be able to change the iPhone to another line on the Family Plan that already has the data and text packages already on it and then just use an old phone on that line that does not require a data package and just pay the $10 a month?

Why was I under the impression that you had to buy a data plan when you add a line with a smartphone?  I too have a family share plan and if I were to add a line to the plan, I could do so for $10/month but I'd have to get a basic phone otherwise to get a smartphone it would be $10/month + Data plan for that line... That's not the case?
I am not following here. You may have been "under the impression that you had to buy a data plan when you add a line with a smartphone" because you do have to buy a data plan when you add a line with a smartphone. Furthermore, you have to keep the data plan as long as the smartphone is active on that line. If you activate a basic phone on that line at some point in the future, you can cancel the data plan as you will no longer have a smartphone on that line.
So yes, if you get a smartphone on a new line, the cost for that line will be $10/month + the cost of the data plan.
If you are only adding the new line just to get a smartphone which you can then switch to another line, you can cancel the data plan on the NEW line after the smartphone is switched to the other line because the new line will no longer have a smartphone active on it. The cost for the new line will then be $10/month.

  • How many phones are eligible with family plan update?

If my family plan is eligible for an upgrade, how many phones (without paying full retail price) can we get by extending out two year contract?
Right now I am the only one with a smart phone, but we plan to add two more so want to get three the newer nicer phones.

Hi joycean716. I'm excited to hear so many of your family lines are considering taking the leap into new phones. Brian68 is right, each individual line has a separate contract and upgrade date. To see when each of your lines is eligible for an upgrade, log into My Verizon at www.vzw.com/signin as the Account Owner and select "Get Upgrade Status" from the My Device section of the home page. You can even order your new phones while you're logged in there.

  • ICloud payment issue with Family Plan

My wife and older daughter's payments went through yesterday without issue, my younger daughter got an email today though saying she was going to be downgraded if she didn't update her payment information... looking at her settings, though, they look correct (her payment is suppose to route to my card via the Family Plan, just like the other two successfully did)...
After navigating the Apple support structure to no avail on a Sunday... figured I'd ask here.  Anyone else seeing similar issues?

She may be asked this to authenticate the she lives in the same country as the rest of the family (her associated credit card billing address is used to confirm this and all members of the family group are required to live in the same country/region).  If you are still having problems when this, and the address in her settings match the credit card billing address, you might want to contact iTunes store support for assistance by filling out this form: https://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html.
Also, I believe that iCloud storage upgrade purchases fall outside of Family Sharing so her card would be charged, not yours.

  • HT201060 Is it possible to use multiple credit cards with family plan?

Is it possible to use my own credit card vice my wife's card to make iTunes purchases while part of a family plan?

This page implies not, only a balance on your account would be used, not a credit card : Family purchases and payments - Apple Support
After you set up your family, any time a family member initiates a new purchase it will be billed directly to your account unless that family member has gift or store credit. First, their store credit will be used to pay the partial or total bill. The remainder will bill to the family organizer's card.

  • Family Plan Question for iPhone 3G

My brother and I share a family plan together. He already has a first generation iPhone on the account and I am getting the 3G iphone when is comes out.
Will our plan go up 30 dollars when I get the iPhone setup or will it go up just 10 dollars for me adding the 3g data price on the account?
This probably didn't make any sense lol, but any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Brendan

Info I've been getting from ATT:
2g(original) remains 20 bucks for data and 200 text message
3g add 30 dollars to account and if you want text - 5 bucks for 200 messages.
10 dollars more would be only if you upgraded to 3g and gave away old iphone.
since you're keeping 2 iphones to account you need data for each iphone and its corresponding data plan. You will renew a 2 year contract with att for 3g and if eligible for upgrade you pay discount price and 18 dollars upgrade fee to appear next bill !

  • Cheapest family plan for Verizon Iphone 4S?

So my dad has a 1st Generation droid, data plan (Unknown), Minutes (450), Texting (not unlimited). My mom has a dumb phone same as my dad but no data plan obviously. Now my question how much would it be under a family plan if i got the cheapest data plan, lowest minutes on a phone (i hardly ever call), and unlimited texting?  How much would it be a phone you all would think if both my parents have verizon phones.

These are questions for Verizon and can be found on their website or by calling them.

  • Problem in WV with Family Base, need help

We currently have 2 Android phones for my husband and me, and two iPhone 4 phones for my daughters. When I signed up for Family Base and created controls (no texting/internet after 10:00 p.m. etc) all four phones lost the ability to make or receive phone calls. NO calls out or in. We could not call each other, we could not call other family members, the ability to use the phones to make calls was completely gone. When I DE-activated Family Base, we got the ability to make calls again. THIS ONLY HAPPENED IN WEST VIRGINIA.  Once we crossed the border into Maryland or PA, the ability to call in or out was restored, but once we came back into WV, we were again cut off from calls. We tried to activate and then deactivate multiple times, and always had the same outcome. We gave up Family Base altogether when our phones ceased to work ANYWHERE, ANY STATE, for phone calls.
Please tell me that we are NOT the only family that has had this issue and please tell me someone is working on a fix, because it's a GREAT feature, provided you can use it and it doesn't mess up your phone. Tech support had NO idea what could have caused it.

Thanks for providing us with additional information TeriB19. Let's get your service back to making calls successfully. After adding Family Base, did you verify you did not add a usage restriction? Adding a minute usage restriction will disable the phones from working after you have reached the usage limit set. • HT4623 I downloaded the iso software update on iphone4 from the phone and know the phone is switching on and off with apple logo please help iPhone 4, iOS 6.1.2

I saw a software update in general settings so i let it downloaded.. it took hours and now the screen with apple sign appears and going but the phone is not turning on.. iphone 4

Coincidentally I have had the same problem and I am also on Reliance network. I learnt the lesson in an expensive way (Read at Rs.17/min as this is the ISD rate of Reliance for calling to USA). I did mnp (mobile number portability, you oldie!) from Airtel to Reliance. So I had the inactive nano sim of Airtel. I took out the Reliance sim and inserted the Airtel sim into my iPhone 5s. By the time it was serching for the network, I quickly navigated to settings>phone and turned that damned dial assit off. That's it. Now when I inserted the Reliance sim and dialled the toll free numbers it was working perfectly, means free of cost. But I still wonder how come Reliance does not send the post call charge notification after the ISD calls? I had to call 198 to know about the balance deduction.

  • Can you put a microsim with no plan in the iPhone 5 to get passed the Activation Screen?

I use a blackberry and I only bought the iPhone for music, camera..etc, and as a back up phone. I just want to get rid of the activation screen for good.

I know but if I use it ONCE to activate my phone(lets say I borrow my friends nano sim), will it get passed the set up screen?

  • How do i approve my kids app purchases with family share

how do i approve my kids app purchases with family share on my iphone?

    Hello andrewmarkp,
With Family Sharing, you can approve purchases with the Ask To Buy feature. The following article provides helpful information:
Family purchases and payments - Apple Support
Approving purchases with Ask to Buy
You can turn on Ask to Buy to require approval for purchases initiated by any family member who is under 18 years old.*
    iOS 8
Tap Settings > iCloud > Family, and tap your family member's name.
    Turn on Ask to Buy.
    OS X Yosemite
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud.
Click Manage Family and select your family member's name.
    Select Ask to Buy.
Ask to Buy is enabled by default for any children under 13 years old, and can be enabled during the setup process for any children 13-17 years old.* You can't turn on Ask to Buy for adults.
If you don't wish to be billed for purchases initiated by a specific adult family member, you can remove that family member from the family group.
*Ages may vary by country or region.
Family Sharing requires a personal Apple ID signed in to iCloud and iTunes. Music, movies, TV shows, and books can be downloaded on up to 10 devices per account, five of which can be computers. iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite are required to set up or join a Family Sharing group and are recommended for full functionality. Not all content is eligible for Family Sharing. Content can be hidden by family members; hidden content is not available for download. Content downloaded from family members or acquired via redemption codes is not subject to Ask to Buy.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Bobby_D
