Switching to firefox

trying to view my brother's transam blog that he created on mac.com in safari 1.3.2 on osx 10.3.9 and it shows no photos. pretty poor for a mac product. works fine on firefox - photos, slideshows, the works.
gets more like microsoft with every new OSX release - buy the new system or get no support. bah.

And your telling us why?
It works pretty well on mine. Safari... iWeb... my photo's look pretty good actually.
This is a user to user discussion board where people help each other with technical issues. And I'm trying to figure out what your specific issue is. Since you don't seem to have one... and since this is not the place to address Apple directly because this is a USER to USER discussion board, I would suggest you go to the Apple Feedback page to air your dissatisfaction.

"New System"? First of all, your brother's system is, ahem... kind of old. No shame in that. Which leads me to "No Support"? Considering your brothers set up, if there was any support to be had, this would've been the place to get it. But I guess your switching to firefox. Oh well.
Good Luck.

I can no longer get my complete bank statements online, and my bank blames the latest Safari update and tells me to switch to Firefox.  Is there no other solution?

I would feel dreadful If I thought had caused you a problem.   The warnings about Java are fully justified but providing you are communicating with a known source, and as I said, you disable it the moment you have finished, you should be safe.
It might also be worth asking your bank what problem they have and would it be the same if you were using Firefox, for example.
Like you, I am very security minded, in fact I won't even put my bank details on my Mac let alone run my account that way.

  • E-Mail attachments are shown as "undefined" since switching to Firefox 7.0.1

Since I switched to Firefox version 7.0.1, any attachments I add to an e-mail are shown as "undefined". If I look at the "Sent" e-mail, and click on "Attachments", I find them to be correct. This is very confusing when there are multiple attachments as I can't tell which have been attached and which remain to be attached. Firefox is my primary (default) browser. When I checked on Internet Explorer 9.0, the attachments were properly identified, so I know this is a Firefox and not a Verizon problem.

  • If I have plugins already installed, then switch to Firefox, do I need to download plugins for FF in order to use Adobe, Picasa, itunes, etc?

I am switching to Firefox today from Windows Explorer. On my computer I have programs such as itunes, Picasa, Adobe, Java. Do I need to download plugins of these programs specifically for Firefox?
Also, I have been using Windows Security Essentials for my computer. Can I still use that? Does Firefox provide security such as a firewall, virus protection and automatic updates? If I need to make a change, what do you recommend?
Many thanks for your time and attention.

The programs that you mention likely have a plugin for Firefox, so you do not need to take action other than to check on "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins" if the plugin in detected and set to "Ask to Activate" or "Always Activate"
Your System Details List shows these among others:
    # Next Generation Java Plug-in 10.55.2 for Mozilla browsers
    # iTunes Detector Plug-in
    # 5.1.30214.0 (Silverlight)
    # Picasa plugin
    # Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 11.0.06
You are only missing the Shockwave Flash plugin for Firefox.

  • Since switching to Firefox, links pasted into e-mail are no longer blue and clickable. How do I fix that?

Since switching to Firefox, links pasted into e-mail are no longer blue and clickable. What can I do to make them work again?

The text editor is the textarea that you use on the webmail (Yahoo, Hotmail) website to compose a new mail.
Compare that with the "Post a Reply" textarea that you use to write a new post on this forum.
Just above the textarea that you use to enter the message text there is usually a button bar with buttons to add text formatting like Bold and Italic.
This button bar can also include a button to turn a link into a clickable hyperlink.
Check the tooltip of each button by hovering with the mouse over each button.

  • Why not switch from Firefox 3 to Tiger (10.4.11) Safari?

I prefer to use one browser. When I had Panther I used Safari until problems occurred with some sites, so I switched to Firefox 2. I upgraded to OS 10.4.11, mainly to use FF3, which I'm now using.
The problem is, I like the AutoFill feature of Safari. FF3 doesn't have it. But, it seems Safari is not updated as frequently as FF3 re: security issues. So, I guess the choice is between better security vs. AutoFill. Right?
As to AutoFill, a member of my Mac user group said, "Who is to say there isn't some exploit found someday, and they can grab the saved contents of what goes in your Autofill?" He's a knowledgeable Mac guy & I don't take his input lightly. He uses FF, btw.
I prefer Safari & am asking you if there is any reason not to switch to it from FF3, which seems the browser of choice for a lot of people. I'll keep FF3 in my apps folder. BTW, I've used Safari in earlier versions for years & never had a security issue, AT LEAST THAT I'M AWARE OF.
So, I guess it's like I said: Do I want security, or do I want AutoFill? Maybe this is a false issue & I'd like some expert advice on this.

    Hi David,
Do I want security, or do I want AutoFill?
Ideally, both Firefox does have a level of autofilling, for example it will autofill usernames and passwords, but I'm guessing you are referring to the filling in of your name, address etc when filling out some forms?
As to AutoFill, a member of my Mac user group said, "Who is to say there isn't some exploit found someday, and they can grab the saved contents of what goes in your Autofill?"
True, I don't disagree with that, but the same applies to Firefox's autofill feature as well. I know both Safari and Firefox encrypt their autofill databases but other than that I don't know if one is 'more secure' than the other. The only way to be 100% safe is to not use autofill in either browser - at the end of the day it boils down to convenience versus security.
But, it seems Safari is not updated as frequently as FF3
I think that's more a perception thing than anything else. True, Safari updates do come around a bit less frequently than Firefox, but Apple do release periodic Security Updates and these do correct security issues in WebKit which is the engine that drives Safari.
Both are fine browsers. If you prefer Safari, I'd say go for it. I don't think either is more insecure than the other. If you twisted my arm, I'd say Firefox might be at a tiny bit greater risk simply because of it's popularity compared to Safari (and therefore a juicier target) - but that's just my opinion!
    Hope some of that helps.

  • Since switching to Firefox, nobody can find me in facebook when they do a search to add me as a team mate for games. Any ideas??

I have just recently switched to firefox. Since then in facebook people search me to add as team mate but they can't find me. This has only happened since the switch..any ideas?

To prevent Firefox from displaying form autocomplete suggestions, you can turn off that feature using the about:config page.
In the address bar, type or paste '''about:config''' and tap the Enter/Return key.
I suggest bookmarking this for easier future access.
In the search box, type or paste '''formf''' and tap the Enter/Return key.
Scroll down to '''browser.formfill.enable''' and tap the Toggle button to switch it from true to false.
That's it. Does it work on Facebook?
''The about:config preferences editor in the mobile version is similar in principle to the desktop version but many of the preferences available on the desktop version have no effect in mobile. This one I only tested on one site, but it seems to work.''

  • 1.1 Intel-Mac: Disappearing text after switching from Firefox

I have LR and Firefox open. I switch to Firefox to use the web for 10-15 mins.
When I switch back to LR all of the text on the interface is gone.
A restart of the app fixes it..

I have seen his sort of thing on rare occasion with some of the early 1.1s. Could never pin it to anything and a restart always fixed it. Somethimes I would go off do something else and then come back to, as you say, no text. I probably should have reported it anyhow, now that smeone else is seeing this.

I use Network Solution for my business email. Before switching to Firefox, I had it set with showing 50 emails per page and attachments at the top of the email. Now with Firefox, I set it up like that, but every time I log back in, it has all been reset...with 5 per page! Pain in the but to switch it each time

I should have explained further. The game opens in a new window over to the upper left of my screen, leaving the original page underneath. I tried minimizing it so that I could get to my toolbar and did the View > Zoom > Reset. This has no effect. The lower portion of the game is still not showing. Using other browsers the window or frame of the game is much larger, therefore everything shows.
