Switching to Google advice for iCal and Contacts (throwing in the towel with iCloud)

hi all.
moved back to mac about four or five years ago. i have a Mac Pro (Lion), MBP (Mavericks) and an iPhone (iOS7).
ca anyone help me with steps on how to get my Calendar and my Contacts to Google and whether there are any desktop or iPhone based apps to manage this so i don't have to login via a web browser when i need to access this information?
i have to travel soon and the inability for iCal to carry appointments across time zones is a problem for me and my Contacts seem reliably get corrupted via MobileMe/iCloud. it is /not/ fun to see duplicated contacts all the time as well as mashed up contacts (email addresses for some people in the contact for someone else's name etc.).
anyway, i would really love it if someone could help me with url's or links or even just explanations of their personal experience moving everything to google.
also, any suggestions on companion apps (such as sunrise app would be really welcome).
THANKS

Hi all,
I've had a less than stellar experience with 10.6 due to the amount of 3rd party software packages I use that simply don't work well, if at all. I'd like to roll back to my 10.5 installation and wait until the software I use is more stable since my MBP is my work machine and needs to perform flawlessly. The issue is I can't remember when I installed 10.6
TM already did that for you. When you're setting-up the full restore (see item #14 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip* ), the list of backups will include both the data & time (in *U.S. Pacific Time),* plus the OSX version of each backup.

  • Synchronizing fails for iCal and contacts

    Hi all,
All of a sudden iTunes cannot sync iCal and contacts between my MacBook and my iPhone. It used to work fine. All I can say is that I installed all recommended updates for both my MacBook and the iPhone when provided.
I cannot find similar problems on the internet. Help please.
    Best regards,
    Huge Rademaker

Nowhere on the net I found someone encountering the same issue as I had , so I was forced to solved it myself by trial and error (and not losing my data).
I succeeded! (Although it took a while.....)
I created a new account on my MacBook and plugged in my iPhone. I was pointed out that my iPhone already had been synchronised with another account (I knew that) and a question was asked whether or not I wanted to replace the data on my iPhone (NO!!!). Then it sync'ed without problems and my contacts and iCal data where neatly placed into the new MacBook account. Then I logged in on my usual account and plugged the iPhone in. Same questions answered and BANG! Synchronized without errors!!!
    bye bye everybody, bye bye

  • How to run save for web and contact sheets at the same time

    Hi
my question is simple and a means to save time-
Lets suppose I have 3 camera images and I want to run either save for web applications on 2 cameras at the same time, how/can i do that to save time or lets say contact sheet action on 1 and save for web on the other to save time or photoshop files and this runs in the background?
would really help save me time.

Even if you could run the three process in the background at the same time I do not think the duration of the total execution time would be any shorter. You would still be executing the same number of processor instruction reading and writing the same number of files. If the whole processor was constrained by the processing power running them cuncurrenly may increase the processing time because of contention for the processor. If the processes are IO bound that will not change a overlaping the processes may cause more hard disk seaking because of contention of the hard disk arm.

  • Feature Suggestion for iCal and Contacts

Many times, I will have a calendar entry with a conference call dial-in number in the Notes section of the appointment. Unfortunately, the calendar does not allow me to dial that number by touching it like mail does. It would be nice if I could do this right from the notes section of the appointment. Further, I'd like to be able to enter the conference ID into the phone keypad without having to remember the long string. Some kind of a "copy & dial" function would be nice. That feature would be great across all apps.
Hope somebody has the same thoughts in development.

  • PCUI - Different Text type for Accounts and Contact Persons

    Hi All,
While configuring the Text Determination, how can we have different determination procedures for Accounts and Contacts. On the CRM back end side there is no distinction on the objtect type for account & contacts. Instead there is one for BP.
We defined a Text Det Proc for Object BUT000 (Business Partners) which gives us the same text types in both accounts and contact person screens in PCUI. But we want different text types. Can any one please advise.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hello All,

While looking to upgrade to a newer MBP, found out latest version of iTunes does not support wired syncing of iCal and contacts. Syncing of these must be done through iCloud. This is a deal breaker for me for several reasons. Are there any workarounds or do I have to go back to a PC with my tail tucked between my legs?

When you say wired syncing, are you meaning between an iphone and your mac?

  • Outlook 2011 no longer syncing with iCal and contacts

I have installed Yosemite recently on my Macbook Pro. I run MS Outlook 2011 for professional reasons. Until now, syncing with my Android phone worked (almost) fine, using a nice app called SyncMate. For a few days now (not sure it is linked to installing Yosemite though) new data on my outlook calendar and address book no longer appear on my phone after syncing. After checking I realized that Outlook is actually not syncing any more with iCal and Contacts, so of course the syncing with the phone cannot work. How can I resolve this ?

facing the same problem, it was syncing prior to my upgrade to Lion. have you managed to find a solution?

  • Syncing multiple iPhones with iCal and contacts

My roommate just bought an iPhone and synced it for the first time with my iMac, but now he has all of my contacts and calendar appointments and none of his own. Do iCal and Contacts support multiple profiles? Is it possible for him to store his contacts on my iMac with iLife and sync without interfering with my contacts?
Sorry if this is a noobish question or if it's already been answered. I looked and couldn't readily find any topics that matched this question.
    Message was edited by: k2tha-izzo

Your roommate will need to have all of his contacts in a specific group, as well as all of his calendar appointments in a specific calendar.
In iTunes, go to the info tab on the iPhone in iTunes and have it only sync that calendar/group.

  • App Store, iCal and Contacts have disappeared from applications

Yesterday, I tried to purchase By Word from the app store on my mac mini, only to find that clicking on the icon in the dock turned it into an icon with a question mark on it. I rebooted, and updated, thinking that might be the cause, but no joy - I also noticed the same happened to iCal and Contacts (Mail and everything else in my dock works fine still).
I checked in applications and the missing apps are nowhere to be found. I also ran the combo update for 10.7.3 as I read elsewhere that this could reinstall the app-store if people have accidentally deleted it, no joy.
I haven't deleted any of these apps, and although I don't use iCal or Contacts on the mini, I'd like to understand how they've disappeared.
I've not used my mini for a while, and not purchased anything from the app store for a long time, so it's hard to tell what may be a contributing factor to the disappearance (I cleared a bunch of stuff from my trash before I realised they were gone too unfortunately, so I can't even tell if they were in there or not).
in the last couple of sessions, I've installed dropbox, anti-social.cc, handbrake, updated magic prefs, run a system update (now running 10.7.3) and installed the latest version of node.js
I've never deleted any application from this machine (not had it too long), but to see if I could have done it accidentally, I removed magic prefs and I'd have had to go into applications specifically to remove them - which I definitely haven't done.
I'm the only login for this machine, it's a personal one, so no worries there. I've even checked for flashback virus and no trace.
I'm absolutely out of ideas, and I can live without iCal and Contacts, but I'd like the app store back if at all possible. I've seen some non-apple sites where people have extracted the app store from a package for individual install, and if necessary, I suppose I'll have to go down that route, but I'd rather keep things official if posisble, and get some understanding into what's happening.
If there are any logs, or other information which can help with this post, please let me know and I'll dig them out - if anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I'd be really greatful.
    Thanks

OK, I understand.  Try this ... it's much safer.  It will simply restore your backup, but not do anything to your iOS:
While your iPhone is plugged in to iTunes, right click on the iPhone icon on the left side of the iTunes display.
Choose "Restore from backup ..." from the pop-up menu that appears.
Again, what this will do is place that backup back on your iPhone without changing iOS.  So you should be very confident in the backup contents before doing this.

  • Why can I no longer sync iCal and contacts without iCloud?

I dont use iCloud basically because by doing so all your data - specifically your contacts and calendar - gets uploaded to an Apple server where it sits for ever. If you decide you want to stop using iCloud (like you decide for some weird reason to use windows instead...or you move somewhere where there's no internet - its possible) it deletes your data from the device you have unsubscribed from. This basically means once you are on iCloud there is no going back. Apple basically acts as if it owns you and your data and inorder to access it (excude me but my calender and contacts list belongs to me) its obligitory to use Apple and iCloud...if you dont it gets deleted and is gone for ever.
So I sync via USB/WiFi...but now after 'upgrading' to Mavericks this option is no longer permitted? You MUST use iCloud.....WHY?? - I dont want to!
I run a business and use iCal to make all my business bookings - these used to sync easily between my iPad and my iMac. Now it doesnt unless I hand over the rights to all my data for all enternity to Apple inc.
This is my stuff and it doesnt belong to Apple - I want to keep it that way
How can I sync iCal and Contacts without signing away ownership of my diary and contacts to Apple?
Am I going to have to ditch my Mac?? Why wasnt this more widely publicized??
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks

Thanks for the reply Arthur. Actually, I just got off the phone with an apple rep telling me you can't downgrade, and that yes, apple actually IS forcing you to use iCloud - if, that is, you actually want to be able to sync your contacts or calendar. Apparently you are special and know something different, so please enlighten the rest of us.

Also there are a host of other Cloud services you can use. You do not have to use iCloud at all. Although there ARE over 320+ million iCloud presently active, so it is extremely popular with users.

  • No chime on startup since 10.9.3 update that allows ical and contact synch through usb

My 2009 iMac used to not chime on startup. I tried virtually every fix, I could find except taking it to a repair shop. After I upgraded to Mavericks, the problem magically disappeared. That is until I installed the 10.9.3 Maverick update today. This makes absolutely no sense to me, espescially since all that this update was supposed to change was the synching ability over USB, of ical, and contacts. Does anyone have any idea, what could be going on?

    Hi Allen,
Thanks for the response. I'll try a second DVI adapter in the future.
I have a hunch this is in fact my AMD Radeon HD 6750M card giving out. I've found some other threads mentioning theories that the kernel_task occasionally running many noop instructions in a last ditch effort to cool the laptop down, which would make sense, as the bottom of the computer's case has been almost too hot to touch fairly often when running in the DVI monitor mode.
When the VGA adapter is plugged in, the dedicated AMD Radeon HD 6750M does not kick in, instead the integrated Intel graphics chip is used, which runs much cooler apparently.
I'm hoping this is a 10.9.3 radeon driver change that'll be fixed, but at this point I'm thinking this is just another instance of a 2011 macbook pro with a 6750M card failing after only 3 years.

  • How do I get MS Outlook to iCal and Contact

I'm hoping anyone can help me with this puzzle. I have been using Microsoft Outlook 2003/2007 software on a PC. I have my address contacts and calendar events all stored on my Microsoft Outlook pc laptop. How do I get my contacts and calendar from Outlook to a Mac (iCal and Contacts)?
I've been having so many problems doing this...and it seems impossible. I hope someone has a solution because I really want to stop using Windows.
    Thanks!
    --Gilbert

I am anxiously awaiting delivery of my new 24 inch iMac and I've got tons of contacts and calendar data to export from MS Outlook in PC to my new Mac. I also got loads of emails to export from MS Outlook Express to Mac Mail which I'm beginning to fear.
Would be a real relief if someone can provide some hints or ideas. Thanks a million.

    Hi,
If the marketing attribute set is created with assignment to bith Accounts and Contacts.. the same would be visible through out.
If u want different set of attributes for contacts and accounts, define multiple marketing attributes and select the checkbox for availability in either contacts or accounts and not both.
