Switching to Mac with PC formated Ipod

Do I need to down load a new driver? I have the MP3's backed up on IPOD itself but how do I "convert" or configure my ipod to work on the MAC?
Thanks

A PC formatted iPod can be used with a Mac without needing to erase or otherwise reconfigure it, except for updating the iPod's firmware on a Mac without restoring it(excluding the iPod shuffle) or storing files that are 4GB or larger on it. iTunes will not import MP3 files from an iPod; a method such as this one can be used to transfer the songs.

  • Problem with windows formatted iPod on Mac

I have a 20gb 4th gen iPod formatted for Windows. I just received a Mini Mac as a gift and now I want to use the iPod on it. When I connect the iPod and run iTunes it recognizes it and updates and does everything it's supposed to do, but if I try to click on any of the items in the menu on the left (Library, Playlists, etc.) iTunes quits completely and the iPod is ejected. I've tried restoring but that makes it quit, too. I've also tried completely erasing everything from the iPod manually (even the hidden files and folders) but that doesn't reformat it. Any suggestions?

    Senuti.
It's a program that transfers music from iPod to iTunes on a Mac.
    As is Music Rescue.
Both of these should work with a Windows formatted iPod because Macs can read and write to FAT32 formatted drives.

  • Switching to mac with CUBASE should I ?

    Hi every one !
simple question :I'm a cubase lover but might want to switch to mac power book g4 latest ...
Is cubase run as good on mac , It's seems not too popular.
should I run cubase on a super tweeked audio pc ?
    thank you all, mac lovers.
    m.

I used Cubase for years, older VST/24 v.4.1r and was happy with it. I use Logic Pro 7.1 and am happy with it. I do notice a few little things I miss about Cubase (remember it was an older version): I can't open more than one Matrix Edit wndow in Logic (or haven't been able to discover how it can be done, if it can) and I really appreciated being able to work simultaneously in two Edit windows in Cubase; in Cubase, dble. clicking on a region where the progress marker was opened the region to that place, whereas in Logic it opens it to the beginning or some other place, but nevver where I want it to (Maybe there is a way, yet to be discovered.); in logic, if I accidentally dble. click on a midi note in the Matrix winow, the window is suddenly populated with data from what appears to be another midi region, possibly drums, or a mixture of crap not belonging in the window (fortunately, closing and reopening the window resolves the problem). I also really miss the poor tech. assistance I used to (try) to get from Cubase folk (though this may change now that they have changed hands through a buy-out). But I don't see how you could have a lot to complain about regarding either application. They both offer more than the average Joe can probably ever take full advantage of. Pick one, befriend it, and you'll be able to make plenty of hit music. Just be sure to have plenty of RAM and the latest updates.

  • Mac with Lossless and iPod with AAC compressed : Is syncing possible

    Hi,
I am a complete noob with the iPod but have managed to get most of my music collection onto my Mac in Apple lossless. This is 280GB (831 albums). Needless to say this will not fit onto my 60GB iPod.
I was expecting there to be a way to set that you wanted the iPod music to be converted to e.g. 256 AAC. You could then just do a normal sync. OK this might take days the first time but that is ok.
I don't seem to be able to find an obvious way to do this. Do I need to create some kind of duplicate library & if so how ?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hello TonyK,
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
I believe the option to automatically convert to AAC is only available for the iPod Shuffle (maybe the Nano - I don't have one, so I'm not sure.) If it's available for the regular iPod, I haven't seen it.
What I've done is the second thing you suggested - convert the lossless files to AAC, keep the lossless but move the AAC's to another playlist, and set the iPod to update to sync with the AAC list.

  • Recently switched from Mac to WinXP-- now iPod doesn't show up at all!

As the subject says, I recently reset my iPod (the old black one with video) from my Mac to my Windows XP. I restored the iPod so that it would work on the Windows computer, and I let it sync, since I've got a good amount of songs. As I was syncing, I was also downloading Podcasts. Well, I ended up needing one of the ports to hook up my printer, and removed the port which connects to the internet. iTunes froze for a moment, and I quickly replaced the internet plug. iTunes told me that it could not locate the folder for my iPod, and the icon for my iPod disappeared. I unplugged the iPod from the computer and plugged it back in, but my computer doesn't even recognize that something is being plugged in. I've tried it in different ports but it won't show up at all.

steps one at a time until your issue is resolved. If one of the following doesn’t help,
read on for solutions to specific problems.
Reset iPod. See “General Suggestions,” below.
Retry with a different USB port if you cannot see iPod in iTunes.
Restart your computer, and make sure you have the latest software updates
    installed.
Reinstall iTunes software from the latest version on the web.
Restore iPod. See “Updating and Restoring iPod Software” on page 61."

  • App switching on Mac with more than one InDesign window open

I wonder if this happens to everyone or if it's something with my set-up--to be precise, having Spaces active.
In OS 10.6.8, if I have more than one InDesign document open and I switch to another application using command-tab, when I switch back to InDesign I (often) see the content of the inactive document, even though the name tab of the original, active document is highlighted.
The only way to get back to work is to click the title tab of the (supposedly) active document, or use the command-tilde shortcut, or reselect the active document name from the Window menu.
This drives me crazy as I need to check a lot of things via a browser as I'm editing. It forces me to make sure I don't have 2 ID windows open.
I'm pretty sure the same kind of thing happens in Word.

I thought I'd follow my last post up with an update. I recently upgraded to InDesign CS6 and was hoping that the problem would be solved. Unfortunately, that isn't the case. However, I did find a fix that is working for me. I noticed that when I turned the Application Frame on (found under the Windows menu) that the problem went away. I'm getting used to working this way now. I have 16 Spaces which I routinely bounce around between. And now, every time I go to InDesign it works properly!

  • If you switch your mac to pc can you play Pc games?

I was curous, when you switch your mac with bootcamp, can you play games that play on the PC?

If you mean if you have a Windows partition using BootCamp... you can use Windows to play games for a PC.
It's not switching your Mac to PC. Using BootCamp you will have the option to boot into Mac OS X or Windows.
If you have't used BootCamp yet, read the installation and setup guide.

  • Using a Windows formatted iPod Nano (4th Gen) with Bootcamp on a Mac(Win XP

Hey I was wondering if anyone knows if you can use a previously formatted iPod Nano (4th Gen) with a Mac that has XP Bootcamped on to it. If the Nano is placed in manually manage music with the original computer it was formatted with, will it be able to accept music, movies, podcasts, etc from the windows on the Mac or will they still be incompatible?

Well, I have 4 internal drive bays filled already, is there room somewhere for 5th one in the box? I wasn't aware of it if there is?? My mac is MacPro3,1, early 2008.
That macsales.com link is interesting but I'm not in the US (I'm in Croatia), and all those brands are supidly expensive here, that $80 esata docking station is almost $200 here... bahh. For that price I may as well buy a whole new 3TB external disk, I want to dock the old one to save money.
I've browsed around and I've found Icy Box docks, which have much more reasonable prices:
    BOX IB-110StUS2-B
    ICY BOX IB-111StUS2-Wh
    ICY BOX IB-115StUS2HC
They all claim to have OSX support... anyone have any experience with them?

  • Using a Mac formatted ipod with windows itunes

Any ideas how I can update my mac formatted ipod on windows based itunes without losing all of my music? Every time I connect onto my pc I just kept being told I need to restore factory settings, yet when I connect to my mac it's fine.
    Any help is greatly appreciated

If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because the Windows OS does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive: How to determine your iPod's disk format
Macs can read Windows drives so you could restore and format the iPod on a PC then connect it back to the Mac and reload your songs. iTunes will allow you to use an iPod formatted for Windows on a Mac but Apple currently only fully supports using the iPod shuffle in FAT32 format on Mac, in other words all future software updates for the iPod would have to be carried out in Windows to maintain the formatting. Alternatively there are third party programs that will allow you to use a Mac formatted iPod on Windows, this is one for instance gets good reviews. It's a commercial program so you'll have to purchase a license to use it:: XPlay 2

  • Transferring songs from a Windows-formatted iPod classic to iTunes on Mac

Hi everybody, I'm curious to see if this is even possible. My husband's Windows laptop died for the second time in three years, so he decided to switch to a Mac after seeing my MacBook last longer than both of his Windows laptops. :o) Anyway, now that the Windows hard drive is dead-and no, he didn't back up his songs to CD-he wants to transfer the songs on his Windows-formatted iPod Classic to iTunes on his Mac. I tried Yamipod, but it said "firmware unsupported" and quit-I suspect the Windows format had something to do with it. He has a lot of songs ripped from CDs and he doesn't want to lose them or have to spend time re-ripping them. Any ideas?
    Thanks for your help!

same thing happened to me. I purchased iPod Access from the internet (for about $15). This program will let you transfer your music and playlists from your iPod to your library

  • How to use Windows formatted iPod nano to move music to a new Mac?

    Hi all,
I need to transfer my iPhone's musics, songs, apps and photo, etc to the Mac and I came across this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329" guide at Apple Support site since I owned a iPod nano.
My questions is since my iPod nano is configured for Windows will the Mac be able to read it since it's stated clearly in the guide "While a Windows formatted iPod may work on a Mac, Apple supports this configuration only with iPod shuffle."
If I follow through the guide, 1. Switch the iPod to manual update and enable disk use, 2. Locating and consolidating the iTunes Media folder, 3. Copy iTunes folder to iPod. I will still need to restore the iPod to work in Mac and end up nothing left inside meaning songs, photo all erased.
Also, anyone using third party software like http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/ Can advise if it's good to use this? And if iPod nano configured for Windows can works with this?
Need other more solution other this to transfer the mentioned data to Mac.
    Thanks.

iPhone… iPod… iPod Nano… which one it is? You are trying to transfer music from what source, using what medium, and to what target?
    I came across this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329"

Where exactly is this stated? I am unable to find this statement in the KB article you mentioned. And are you talking iPhone or iPod? This KB article applies only to iPod.

  • How to transfer iPod songs frm Mac Formatted iPod to Windows formatted iPod

I have an eMac with iTunes 7.1.1 and my daughter's 30 gb, video iPod has 1000 songs on it-- that iPod is formatted for Mac.
OK but now she is switching to a PC due to work, and moving- so she won't have access to the eMac. She'd like to format her iPod for PC, but doesn't want to lose the 1000 songs. (Many/most are already on the PC, but so are many, many more, - from her sister etc.--and she'd like to just transfer these 1000).
What I'd simply like to do is copy her 1000 songs to a folder on the eMac by putting the iPod into DISK mode, then connect the iPod to her PC and completely erase it / format it for Windows via iTunes 7.1.1 for Windows on her PC.
Then I'd like to transfer the 1000 songs in that folder to my external La Cie 60 gb "USB2" HD (which I will format for Windows first).
Then I'd like to connect that La Cie External HD to the PC and have the 1000 songs imported into my daughter's windows iTunes and then finally have her connect her iPod and have the 1000 songs copied (manually or via sync) to her now-formatted-for-Windows iPod.
CAN THAT BE DONE? If so, is there anything tricky here, i.e. do I have to use iTunes on the Mac to put the iPod into HARD DISK mode?
And will the songs once on the Mac be able to copy over to a Windows-formatted La Cie external HD?
NOTE: All 1000 songs are songs from CD's that she has put into iTunes, i.e. there are no 'Apple iTunes store' purchased songs so there will not be a problem with that.
Any comments really appreciated here-- she's only visiting for a couple of days and I'd like to do this asap-- really appreciate any guidance.

  • Mac Formatted iPod Mini, want to use on PC then back to Mac?

I want to use my Mac formatted iPod Mini on a PC when I'm away for Christmas, but when I return home I want to use it on my Mac again. Is formatting the iPod to a PC required to do this? I don't want to lose all my music when I'm away because there will be no way to get it back till I return home. And, if I must format for a PC, what will happen when I plug it back into a Mac? Do I have to reformat again? Has anybody accomplished this successfully?

An iPod formatted with Windows will work with Windows or Mac.
An iPod formatted with Mac will not work on Windows. WIndopws cannot read Mac.
If you format with Windows, you will not need to reformat with Mac.
