Switching to Panasonic HVX200... HD Monitor?

Hello,
I am not even sure where to start... we do primarily wedding videos and are looking to take things to the next level, hence the HVX200. The way I see it, we would be using the Firestore to capture the footage which we then bring into FCP. Currently, we use a DSR 11 to view material on an external monitor. Of course the switch to HD means a different set up... but what? Assuming I want to capture at the DVCPro HD and monitor that (I realize at this point I will still be sending the final edit to SD). At the very least, I need an HD monitor (suggestions on a HD monitor much appreciated, keeping in mind that this would be the one are I will go cheap on for now). I assume I can't FW out to an HD monitor... so what is my "connecting" piece?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

First, thanks for everything! The idea of archiving to DVCam was to give me a tape based solution since a HD deck is simply out of the equation right now. Not actually having the camera yet, I don't know how much hard drive space I will actually end up consuming. I could easily archive to a SATA drive via the Mac Gurus enclosure (hot swap drives; love that thing!!).
I'm good to go with RAM on either desktop (3.5 & 6.5); however, I currently use two displays with either: the main set up is a LaCie CRT (photo editing) with a 23" for pallets. Of course in FC this 23" is my timeline while the CRT is my browser! But now I don't want to give up my screen real estate to HD monitoring, I would still want another display. WIth that in mind, am I right in concluding that I could use this:
http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/
connected to something like this:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=4 24227&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation
As a starting point?
Thanks again,
Mike
Or not, I see the Intensity card is PCIe which brings me back to the Kona or a Black Magic card, which would then need a break out adapter to go to something like the Panasonic HDTV?

  • FCP and the Panasonic HVX200

We are currently researching what is needed to upgrade to this new camera, Panasonic HVX200 with FireStore HD, and to see if our current FCP stations need upgrading. The two main stations are:
    Dual 2.0/G5
    6 GB RAM
    2 TB RAID
    23" Apple Display
    ATI Video/128 MB
    Sony NTSC Monitor
Kona Capture Card (not sure what version)
    Flying Cow MIDIman
    Sony BetaSP Deck
First, if we shoot DVCPRO 50, can these systems handle this type of footage? Also, can we shoot DVCPRO 50 and go down to DV as we normaly do? I'm guessing this footage will still be better than our old cam, even after downsampling.
Second, what would be a nice system to make this cam sing? I would start with a Quad G5 with lots of RAM. Looking for video card, monitor, HD suggestions.
    Thanks in advance!
    --Alex

YOu know what, I haven't tried the DV option yet. Tell you what, I'll shoot DVCPRO HD and DV and look at the difference. Other than the obvious quality differences, I'll see how it manages the lighting situations.
I don't want to try to dig into this camera and set it for DVCPRO 50, because they will be using it again for another shoot and I don't want to mess with the settings.
Are you shooting DVCPRO 50, then downconverting to DV for the quality? jst curious. I haven't done it, so I don't know the answer for sure.

  • Multiclip editing + Panasonic HVX200

    Hello!
I'm having some trouble trying to create a multiclip out of a footage from a Panasonic HVX200 HD camera...
The thing is that the camera divides long clips into smaller ones... so to have the whole footage from a camera, i need to create a sequence and put all the small clips in the right order.
but, now that i have all the footage from a camera in a sequence, i can't create a multiclip angle with that sequence.. it seems final cut doesn't accept sequences as camera angles, only clips..
i already tried to export that sequence and create a new video file.. but i face two other problems.. i'm working 720p24... from export i get either a video file with Square Pixels (they were HD960x720 before that) or if I recompress the frames.. i get problems with sync.. it starts to lose the syncronization and eventually it comes back, and then loses agains (in every point where one of the "subclips" started on the original sequence)...
Does anyone know if I can create a multilclip angle out of that sequence without exporting it? Besides those sync and format problems, exporting everything would also eat up a huge amount of space on my HD.. and that's not a option..
    Thank you!

Typically when no one answers, no one knows the solution. But since you won't take the silence as an answer...
I work with p2 footage quite a bit, but I never had the pleasure of multicam within FCP...so I don't have an answer for you. If you do happen to have a shoot where you intend on multiclipping several cameras, it would be wise to NOT start and stop the cameras at different times. Rather, start them all at once, slate the shots (hand clap works fine) and stop the cameras at the same time. Or constantly roll the camera and don't pause ANY OF THEM until all of them are ready to stop.
But that doesn't help you at all now. I just wanted to pop in and say "I have no idea" as you seemed to want SOME KIND of answer.

  • Connecting Mac Pro to Panasonic BT-LH2550 monitor for Color

    Dear All,
I am planning to have a setup to connect a Panasonic BT-LH2550 monitor with my Mac Pro to view the footage pixel-pixel for serious color grading with Color from FCP Studio.
I am wondering what kind of connection I need to have between the monitor and the Mac. In fact, do you I any extras card or connector. Someone told me that as LH2550 has DVI connection, I can just plug the monitor to the computer, but I wonder if this method is accurate enough to show the footage for color grading.
I also heard about AJA, but I really don't need any capturing. Is there any another cheaper way (yet still with good color reproduction on the monitor for color grading).
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    King

No...if you want to capture this is a good card. But get the LHi...the LHe isn't available anymore anyway. The LHi will upconvert SD to HD, and cross convert 720p to 1080i on the fly. As will the MXO2...

  • What kind of KVM switch can I use to monitor sun rack with 490s, 245s, and

    Hi,
What kind of KVM switch can I use to monitor sun rack with 490s, 245s, and T2000s ?
    Ushas Symon

It sounds like the customer and server room operator are using a Microsoft/X86 mindset. There are several selling points on using RSCs & SCs. First off are the big 3 that are easy for any good server room operator to understand: cost, space & power. If you don't have to buy a 1U Tripp-lite pull out rack KVM console ($1700) and a video card for each of your SUN servers ($400, yes SUN vid cards are $$$), you start off by saving several thousand dollars.
Next you need to let them know that you require remote access to the systems from your desk and a standard KVM doesn't allow this (with Unix, if you have to get up from your desk then its a hardware problem). They can choose to purchase a network enabled KVM, but that adds $700 to your $1700 KVM. By using the SC you will be able to administer the system remotely.
Third, remember that SUNs do not show all the critical boot information on a frame-buffer console output. If you are in diagnostic mode during boot, the monitor doesn't show results until it completes. If some process is stuck (missing NFS or fibre-channel hard mounts, memory tests, etc) then you need to be able to see it to fix the problem. Plus, console frame-buffers only give you 25 lines of output that you can't scroll back.
The only small hitch is security. The new SCs (on T5220s) have SSH built in, but the older V240s and V490s use telnet which some security people balk at. The solution that we used is to put the older system SCs on a private LAN. Access to that private LAN from our intranet is via a SSH enabled dual-homed (non-routing) workstation with local user accounts. We SSH to that workstation & then telnet to the SC on the relevant server. That solution allows me to access our servers that are 40 miles away, saving response time to solve customer problems. A crude diagram is below:
    your workstation------intranet------[dual homed, non-routing workstation]------[inexpensive switch]------[server SC]
    Good luck.

  • Home switch from panasonic

    hi,
can someone please advice me on whether this Limit switch from Panasonic is suitable for my UMI 7764 and PXI 7332? i cant figure out which Information is relevant for my choice? here is the data sheet:

    Kenzi,
as this is a mechanical home switch, it will work with the UMI 7764. Please refer to the UMI's manual for the wiring diagram and to the 7332's manual for information about the limit switch input circuitry.
In short: just connect the switch between the switch input of the UMI and GND. The switch input is pulled up internally on the 7332 to +5 V, so no external power connection is required.

  • Has anyone used the Panasonic BT-LH2600WP monitor with Premiere CC and AJA T-TAP?

I'm considering investing in the Panasonic 26" BT-LH2600WP to use as a color correct monitor with my 27" imac and a aja T-tap (thunderbolt to sdi adapter).  Has anyone done this or know if there are any quality issues?
    thanks
    Phil

Phil, I have a similar set up, but I have the 17-inch Panasonic SDI monitor. Premier works okay with the T-Tap, with some minor yet annoying bugs.
If I monitor audio via HDMI from the T-Tap, which I prefer, then my Panasonic monitor and its matching audio are about half a second out of sync with the iMac display. (But the HDMI audio is perfectly synced with the Panasonic SDI video.) This is annoying because both the Panasonic and the iMac are directly in front of me, and it's confusing seeing the out of sync iMac image. Definitely not something to show any clients.
If I switch my audio monitoring to "Adobe Desktop Audio," which is the feed from the iMac's headphone jack, this problem disappears. In that case, the Panasonic and the iMac display are almost perfectly matched up. However, now I'm getting lower quality audio, with added digital-to-analog processing in the signal.
Using the T-Tap is smooth and trouble free in Final Cut Pro X, but in Premier it is a bit buggy. That said, it works mostly okay.
While we're on the subject, can anyone suggest the best Preferences settings in Premier to use the AJA T-Tap? I may be missing something.
    Thanks!

  • Switch active display between 2 monitors without click

    Hi,
I'm using OS Mavericks with dual monitor setup (iMac with an external monitor) + each monitor has it's own spaces. I'm wondering if there is a way to instantly switch the active monitor (focus) to the other by just moving my mouse to that monitor (without clicking anywhere in that monitor's space to activate it).
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi reedoo,
    Any update here?
If you have found any possible solutions (or the information from the manfacturer) regarding the issue , it would be very kind of you to share it here, which would be very helpful for the others who will read this thread.

  • Switching ExternalMonitor View from "Source Monitor" to "Program Monitor"?

This worked fine in CS6, but I switched to Premiere CC and my external monitor is displaying the contents of Premiere's "Source Monitor" only, not the "Program Monitor". When the Timeline or Program monitor is selected, the extrenal monitor is black. But slecting Source Monitor plays fine on the extrenal moitor (through SDI connection)
How do I switch to the viewing the Program Monitor signal in my external monitor instead of the Source Monitor?
Tech Setup: using Blackmagic ultrastudio mini monitor to send SDI signal. Have installed the latest driver for the Blackmagic ultrastudio, which is approved for Adobe CC. Everything works perfectly in Premiere CS6, it's an issue inside Premiere CC.

  • Laptop randomly switching over to f4 key, monitor switching, auto selects one and locks me out.

for the past month or so now, my pavilion dv6 special edition notebook has been acting up. itll randomly pop the switch monitor deal onto the screen, automatically pick a monitor option, and then lock me out. This is annoying as it happens multiple times an hour. Sometimes right after each other. I dont know if it is a keyboard issue since sometimes it will keep putting in "g" 's in places and sometimes the back space doesnt work. Sometimes itll keep putting in the same key over and over and over again without me even touching the keyboard and it wont stop until i hit the key that is being put it.
This is just frustrating since ive only had laptop for 8 months and have formated everything hoping that the problem would stop.
    Any suggestions?

  • P2 Card in Panasonic HVX200 camera

Is there an intermediate codec that lets me log and transfer HD from a P2 card into
    FC Express?
Or is the only software that can load that info FC Pro.
Can FC Pro log and transfer from the HVX200 via firewire from a P2 without any intermediate codecs?

OK. Good. The specs say "Records in a full range of HD formats including 1080/60i, 1080/30p, 1080/24p; 720/60p, 720/30p, 720/24p"
And... " Free downloadable AVCHD Transcoder for conversion to DVCPRO HD available at www.panasonic.com/avccam."
I'll get it from B&H. They have a good return policy if things don't work out.
    Thanks for the help!

  • Connecting Panasonic HVX200 to FCP to view the color chart realtime

    Dear All,
I want to use the waveform and vectorscope monitors from FCP to test my HVX200 while aiming at a DSC Labs color chart.
Of course, one of the ways is film the chart first, and then Log and Capture the shot to FCP and check the waveform and vectorscope.
But I am thinking if I can use my Mac Book to connect to my HVX200 to view the waveform realtime. Possible? Any suggestion? Any tool needed to connect them?
    Thanks a lot in advance.

You need something like VEESCOPE for this:

  • FCP 7 and Panasonic HVX200

I work in radio and I'm relatively new to video. I have a Panasonic P2 AG HVX200P camera.
I couldn't capture video from my P2 card on FCP 5 so I've been shooting on tape, which I was able to log and capture. I installed FCP 7 so now I can ingest from the P2 card. But now I can't log and capture the tape. Has anyone had this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it? When I plug in the camera through firewire and launch FCP, I get a message saying it can't find the camera. I'm used to this happening when there is no camera connected. But it should see the camera, shouldn't it?

    David,
I looked at the manual and can switch between the tape and P2. My problem was getting the stuff into my computer. Thanks to this forum I finally figured it out. Thanks for your reply. This video stuff is a lot more complicated than radio.

As far as I have read or seen the manuel doesn't go

apparently, page 58 of the manual describes syncing two hvx cameras via firewire. the panasonic website kept crashing safari whilst downloading the hvx manual so i found this info here http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=68797&highlight=timecode+sync
