Switching users.  Where'd the desktop flipping animation go?

All of a sudden, when we switch users the fun desktop flipping animation doesn't work anymore. I'm a dope, as I'm sure this is an easy fix. If anyone can help me, it would make my day. Thank you, all!

Is it possible that you have different monitor settings (resolutions, etc) on one user?
Sometimes a corrupted color profile can cause this too.

  • Do not force tablet users to use the Desktop app before it is ready

Windows 10 is set to launch on July 29. Microsoft is discontinuing Modern Skype on July 7 thus creating the following inconveniences for Windows 8.1 tablet users connected with using the Desktop app: The Desktop app is blurry due to the DPI issuesThe app slides off the screen if the app is maximized and the user scrolls to the end of any listUsers need to use the desktop virtual keyboard which is subpar in numerous aspectsUsers who primarily use the Modern part of Windows 8.1 are forced to use the desktop environmentThere is no way to see any Skype notifications without going to the Desktop which, again, the tablet users don't do very often or don't do at all Every single one of the abovementioned issues isn't minor by any means. We'd understand your decision to make users move to a better app if it was indeed a better app. Please finish the proper Windows 10 integration first (or, at the very least, wait till Windows 10 is released) and then we, the tablet users, would gladly move to a truly better experience.

Thanks for listening. A) Lenovo ThinkPad 8 tablet - Windows 8.1 x64, 8" 1920x1200 screen mostly in portrait mode with 150% zoom for desktop, equipped with LTE mobile connection (that's why Skype connected standby mode support is essential). B) All issues with the desktop version on tablet have been summarized in the first post. I will repeat them again: true optimization for touch devices - I mostly use the chat window, so no menu nor taskbar visible on main (chat) window.fix basic bugs like erratic scrolling, the sliding off main window when scrolling and missing High DPI awareness supportconnected standby support, start screen and live tile notificationssmooth integration of onscreen keyboard, again Windows Store applications can do that onlyNo desktop application on Windows 8.1 can offer the same level of experience on tablets as the existing Modern Skype (Windows Store) one does. That's why the Windows Store applications have been introduced after all. So the easiest solution for both parties is to not kill the Modern Skype app as it continues to live on Windows RT devices. As for Windows 10 upgrade and getting a new Skype universal app (if any, in the future), it does not seem to be well optimized for tablets yet so it is better to stay with very good Windows 8.1 for a while.

  • Where is the desktop redirector with Desktop Manager 6?

A client of ours had upgraded his version of Desktop manager to 6 from 5.something.
There is no more link for the Redirector under START - PROGRAMS - BLACKBERRY
The icon for the redirector still shows up in his start menu, however, it says that it's not started.
Where can I find the software with the new desktop manager?  I've tried reinstalling the desktop manager already but still cannot find it, nor were there any options during the installation to include it.

I've looked for this and cannot find it either.  I want to be able to hide the Blackberry bar at the bottom of the screen when I minimized the software.

  • Where is the desktop picture stored if you set it from the finder?

I've read several discussions here asking where this is stored but none of them address the location when you use the Finder to set a desktop picture. I've looked in all Libary folders and Safari and can't find it. How can I locate it?

Finder takes the actual directory of the picture you set as a desktop background and the "com.apple.desktop.plist" file in ~/Library/Preferences points to the directory of the picture you set as the desktop background. It's not stored in any other folder

  • Can I change where on the desktop a file opens?

Is it possible to control where a file opens on the desktop?
I have one file that I use a lot and I always want it on the right side of the screen but it always opens on the left and I have to drag it over. Is there a way to make the finder remember where I want it?
    Thanks, David

    Cambook,
It isn't a folder causing the problems, it's a Text Edit file that I keep on a flash drive and use all the time. The folder does remember where it was previously, but when I open the text edit file it opens just exactly where I don't want it to be and have to move it every time.
    Any ideas? Thanks, David

  • Where are the Desktops?

Hi guys, someone can help help me with the Mission Control and the desktop? So, we know that MC should do whet Space did with SL, but in SL I was able to assign appz the the Spaces (1, 2, 3, etc) and have that forever. Now I´m trying to do the same thing with MC, instead to add space I add desktop and assign it an app, right? The problem is that when I restart the Mac, all those setting I created desappear and everything go back to the default setting of Lion.
Any idea how to solve this?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Sus,
Go to System Administration->Portal Display->Desktop & Display Rules->Browse Portal COntent->administrator->Super Administrator->Mater Rule Colection (right click and open object)
Here you'll find the rule that are asigned and working actively inside portal.
And, to see all the available desktops, go to System Administration->Portal Display->Desktop & Display Rules->Browse Portal COntent->Content Provided by SAP->End user Content->Standard Portal User.
In order to create a new desktop, copy object from here and paste to your folder. No change should be made into this folder.
    Regards,
    Sen

  • Here's a Lion-noob question... where are the desktop icons?

like the harddrive. the one that usually pops up in the upper right hand corner and says "Macintosh" along the bottom?

Click onto the Desktop, select Preferences from the Finder menu. Click on the General icon in the toolbar. Check the boxes for the items you want displayed. Click on the Sidebar icon in the toolbar and configure what is displayed in the sidebar.

  • Where are the desktop & screensaver files stored?

One of my apples is running Mac OS 10.5.8. In its choice of desktop scene from "Nature", there is a beautiful "Golden Palace." I like the picture very much and want to use it for other Apple computer, which do not have the picture. Where can I locate the picture and copy it to other Mac computers?
    Thank you very much.

  • I have ipod/itunes on two computers and two user names. The desktop has my old songs, I have since gotten a laptop and have built my music collection on it. I want to share my most current music on my laptop with my old computer, which is outdated.

How do I clean up two user names and share most current music on laptop with the older computer and out of date ipod music. I have to do this carefully, so I don't lose the most current music library on the laptop?

If those older shuffles work and have the songs on them...
For songs purchased from the iTunes Store, you can use iTunes to transfer from iPod to computer.  The command (in the current version of iTunes) is at
iTunes Menu Bar -> File -> Devices -> Transfer Purchases from [name of iPod]
However, you may need to have your current computer authorized with the Apple ID (iTunes Store account) used to make the purchase.  If you do not, the purchases from that Apple ID may not transfer.
There are third-party methods and utiltiies (not using iTunes) to transfer song files from iPod to computer.  These should not care about Apple ID or that a particular song was purchased from iTunes Store or not.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files from the two older shuffles are transferred to your computer, you can add those songs to your iTunes library.  Then, sync your 4th gen shuffle from the "consolidated" iTunes library.

  • My wife and I both have the IPhone 3Gs and we just downloaded the Ios5 software and now she can't text, anyone have any ideas? It seems like you can only IM to another IPhone user whereas befor the download, we could text anyone.text

My wife and I just downloaded IOS5 onto our IPhones, 3Gs. Prior to, we were able to text anyone, now, she can't text at all except from her IPhone to my IPhone. I'm also unable to IM from my IPad2. Any suggestions?

There are a lot of posts in the forums today with people having problems with iMessage.   There was also a published outage yesterday, so it's possible there are still some issues that may be impacting you both.
I would just wait it out - I'm sure it will be sorted out soon.

  • Bonjour + Fast User switching = messages going to the wrong (inactive) user

We use iChat for Bonjour in our office– fast file transfers etc.
If a user is one of 2 or more logged in on a machine– through the use of fast user switching, we've noticed that incoming messages (initiated by another user on the network) will often go to the switched user (i.e. the inactive user) not the user we're currently logged in as.
We've been able to repeat the issue.
    1. Log in as user 1, fast user switch to user 2 (leaving user 1 logged in but inactive)
    2. Go to new machine, log in as user 3
    3. Send message from user 3 to user 2
    4. Look at user 2 screen. No messages
    5. Send message from user 2 to user 3. User 3 will receive message, and will be able to send message successfully back to user 2.
    6. Log out use 2
    7. Log in as user 1
    8. Notice all the messages that were going to the 'inactive' user profile.
Has anyone else seen this type of behavior?

    HI MAtthew,
Welcome to the Apple Discussion Pages.
I have not seen this (I only have one Mac).
However there is an item in IChat Preferences > General section that can set the staus of the Users account to Offline or Away when using Fast User Switching.
What is yur set to and does it make any difference when changing it ?
Away in normal circumstance menas someone can still Invite you to chats (or Text you)

  • After many discussions with Apple Support, I still have the problem of the screen switching back to the desktop. It does not close the window just minimizes the window. What do I do? Help!?!

I have contacted Apple Support Several times. Has anyone else had the issue of their computer switching them back to the desktop without completely closing out the program or internet they are on? I cannot get it to stop. Help?

I'm running Mavericks, which is a little different than what you're running, but I think I have a lead for you. First, read this:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1309561
I think this describes what you're seeing.
Then read this thread. Click on the picture and look for that setting in your Dock settings in System Preferences.

You want to uncheck the box that says "Minimize Applications...etc"
