Switching - what will happen to my stored Mail?

Hi, if I make the move to iCloud will anything happen to my stored Mail messages in my .mac/.me account?  I keep tons of old messages going back to 2003 as a method of filing information and dont want to lose it. Will anything else change?  I use Mail on both my MacBook Pro and my iPhone, and also remotely via the internet.
thanks

When you migrate from MobileMe to iCloud your emails will be transferred to the iCloud server (though you might want to download them as a safety backup before doing this).
However, Lion 10.7.2 is required for iCloud. Your signature says you have 10.6.7 - if this is correct you will have to set Mail up manually to access what will now be your iCloud email. Please see this page:

If I have converted my purchased iTunes songs to a lower bit rate what will happen when I join iTunes match? Will they match up or will these be stored as duplicates of the same song?
I ask because I primarily use my work laptop which has limited space so I usually convert my purchases to 160k from 256k in order to save space. I want to sign up for iTunes Match but I'd like to know before I do so I can understand how I will have to set up my library.

What I may do is start a brand new library there, copy my tracks from my work laptop using Home Share and then the script to get things in sync before starting over again there too.
Why create a new library? Just add the tracks from the laptop to the existing library on the Mac.

I was just hoping to hear definitively whether or not there was some sort of intelligence built into iTunes Match that would match these up...
How do you mean? If you down-convert purchased tracks you've fundamentally changed the files so iTunes can no longer recoginize them as "purchased." And, indeed, they no longer are since they are brand new files. Of course these new files will only be "matched" or "uploaded."

  • How the data is stored in Info cube...in the back end what will happen???

    Hi Experts,
How the data is stored in Info cube and DSO...in the back end what will happen???
I mean  Cube contain Fact table and Dimension tables How the data will store and what will happen in the backend???
    Regards,
    Swetha.

    Hi,
    Please check :
How is data stored in DSO and Infocube
InfoCubes are made up of a number of InfoObjects. All InfoObjects (characteristics and key figures) are available independent of the InfoCube. Characteristics refer to master data with their attributes and text descriptions.
An InfoCube consists of several InfoObjects and is structured according to the star schema. This means there is a (large) fact table that contains the key figures for the InfoCube, as well as several (smaller) dimension tables which surround it. The characteristics of the InfoCube are stored in these dimensions.
An InfoCube fact table only contains key figures, in contrast to a DataStore object, whose data part can also contain characteristics. The characteristics of an InfoCube are stored in its dimensions.
The dimensions and the fact table are linked to one another using abstract identification numbers (dimension IDs) which are contained in the key part of the particular database table. As a result, the key figures of the InfoCube relate to the characteristics of the dimension. The characteristics determine the granularity (the degree of detail) at which the key figures are stored in the InfoCube.
Characteristics that logically belong together (for example, district and area belong to the regional dimension) are grouped together in a dimension. By adhering to this design criterion, dimensions are to a large extent independent of each other, and dimension tables remain small with regards to data volume. This is beneficial in terms of performance. This InfoCube structure is optimized for data analysis.
The fact table and dimension tables are both relational database tables.
Characteristics refer to the master data with their attributes and text descriptions. All InfoObjects (characteristics with their master data as well as key figures) are available for all InfoCubes, unlike dimensions, which represent the specific organizational form of characteristics in one InfoCube.

  • Mailed back a new iphone. what will happen next?

I ordered a new unlocked iphone trough the Apple store, but it arrived damaged. The outside had everything ok, but as soon as I grabbed it I noticed that there was something loose inside the phone it also made noises. So I returned it back in to the box and mailed it back. It’s been a week since I returned it and I haven´t received any mails. Also there was no charge in my credit card. Will I get a new iphone or what will happen?

You did call the Apple Store and get an RMA number before you sent it back?

I have recently wanted to switch to the windows platform so I could get more games from steam.  I was wondering what happens to all of my files and what will happen to Mac apps like iwork.  Will I have to purchase the microsoft version?

Nothing happens to your files and "Mac apps". You install Windows on a new partition separate from OSx. Read the Boot Camp manuals. http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/

  • What will happen if I switch Apple ID

My mum has gone on holiday to bangladesh for 2 weeks and in return for house sitting and dog sitting, has left her IPad her for my Girlfriend to play on! The issue is my girlfriend wants to be able to play certain games with her own account! So I would like to know what will happen if she was to switch to her account using her apple id??
A: If she signs my mum out of her apple account will all the apps be removed ?
B: Once my girlfriend signs in will it automatically install all her apps
C: So I guess the best way to describe it is, can my girlfriend switch accounts without affecting any of my mums apps, and of course after the 2 weeks are up switch back to my mums account.

You could back up granny's iPad and restore it from your girlfriend's computer then reverse that when she returns.
What does your girlfriend normally use to play these games?
You can remove granny's account in Settings > iTunes & Apps, change it to the girlfriends and have her download her apps. This will not delete granny's apps but if she has autoupdate turned on they will not update. When granny is returning have your girlfriend first delete all of her apps then sign granny back in.
You will need grannie's password for here Apple ID for any of this to work.
Sorry, didn't see it was your mum.

  • What will happen if I change the name of my Apple Id?

I have only one Apple Id, which is my email address "[email protected]". My Apple Id and primary email are the same. I now have a new email address, and want to change my Apple Id to my new email address. I've been to the Apple Id support page, and have found out how to change the Apple Id on the Apple Id support webpage. I've been reluctant to go through with the process, because I'm unsure as to what the consequences will be if I change my Apple Id. I have an iPhone and an iPad as well as two Macs and an Apple TV hooked up to my Apple Id. My iMac is the main computer used for storing all files and syncing my iOS devices. In addition my contacts and calendar is in the iCloud. I hope someone with the know-how or experience can help me answer the following questions:
    1. iPhone and iPad: Once I change my Apple Id, have I understood it correctly when the next thing I do is that I go to General settings -> Store, and sign out from my "old" Apple Id, and then sign in with the new name for my Apple Id? Will my previous purchases of music, ibooks and apps be connected to the new name of my Apple Id, and will I still be able to get previously purchased apps updated? As for iCloud, what must I do on my iPhone and iPad to make sure that contacts and calendars keep in sync?
    2. iCloud: Will changing the name of the Apple Id on the Apple Id support webpage be the only thing I need to do, or are there more steps to follow?
    3. iMac and MacBook Pro: Am I right in assuming that all I need to do is sign out from the old named account and then sign in with the new name in AppStore, iTunes, FaceTime and Messages app? Is the Apple Id in use by any other apps or functions?
    4. Apple TV: Once my iMac is up and running with the new name of the account, I sign out from the old named account, then sign in with the new name, will streaming music and photos etc. work just as before the name change?
    5. I still haven't activated Mail in iCloud. As I understand, once you do that you will be prompted to register a @me.com or @icloud.com email address. Will this address now be possible to use instead of my new email address as the name for my Apple Id?
A lot of questions, still I'd be grateful for some answers.

    Hi, everyone,
I just began to use TM to back up my mac. I already have a full backup. Now I want to exclude some folder from backup. I can do this in the option dialog of TM. But I wonder what will happen after I add a new exclude folder. Will TM begin to build a new full backup or just continue to back up incrementally from the older full copy? Thanks.
Time Machine will continue to do incremental backups.
It won't immediately delete previous backups of the items you exclude (but it will, eventually). You can do that yourself, if you want, per #12 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum.

Hi Mary, the other so called "Features" of iClound will not work for like Syncing, but eMail will.
MobileMe & dot Mac will still work last I heard.
iCloud Mail setup, even in 10.4/10.5…
Don't delete your old account yet. Just setup a new one in Mail>Preferences>Accounts, little plus icon. Choose IMAP as account type, not ,mac or MobileMe.

  • What will happen when I install Leopard?

So when leopard comes out in a few weeks and I install it, what will happen to all the files and apps on my computer. Will they be gone? Will I have to redo everything?
This is my first transition on a new OS X. I switched right aftr Tiger came out. What is going to happen?

    Fair comment!
If you want the full nine yards:
There are no guarantees, but following this procedure when installing updates and upgrades on your Mac will go a long way towards avoiding unpleasant after effects and ‘post-update stress disorder’.
It is also worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
    1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
    2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
    3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site. If your car runs on gasoline you would not want to fill the tank with diesel, so don’t try to install the PPC updater on an Intel Mac!
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.4.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.4.9 to 10.4.10. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
    Now proceed as follows:
    4. Close all applications.
    5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
    7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
    8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious!
    9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them 10.4.10. compliant. Give them a weeks or two while you regularly check their websites for updates. This applies particularly to plug-ins for Safari 3.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.

  • What will happen

    Hi all,
There are some scenarios what will happen --
{1} If I am taking backup in archive log and doing restore, recovery in noarchive log.
{2} If I am taking backup in noarchive log and doing restore, recovery in archive log.
Then what can be the possible problems in future.(i.e. what is the difference)
    I am working on Oracle 10g Release2.
    Thanks
    Awanish.

Ehhh?! Very strange question and backup-restore-implementation!
How do you execute a restore is not a problem. The real question should be "what happens if I am running the database in ARCHIVELOG/NOARCHIVELOG mode in case of crash and a restore is needed?"
If you run the database in archivelog mode you are able to restore to a point-in-time and you can run hot backups. In the case you run the database in noarchivelog mode you must take cold backups and you are not able to execute a point-in-time recovery because you have no archivelogs.
In both your question you can restore but after you switch the archive mode you are subjected to the above mentioned situation.
    Bye, Aron

  • I'm getting an error message that says iphoto is damaged - delete and reinstall from app store.  If I delete iphoto, what will happen to my pictures?

I'm getting an error message when I try to open iPhoto - it says, "iPhoto is damaged and cannot be opened. Delete iPhoto and download it again from the App Store." If I delete and reintall, what will happen to my pictures?  I cannot open my pictures from the Finder either to save them/back them up.

    Hello jwhhunt,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Your iPhoto Library is stored separately from your iPhoto application, therefore reinstalling iPhoto as the error message describes, will not affect your iPhoto Library.
