Switching windows within an application

So I know that I can use the apple+tab to switch between applications. I'm wondering what I can hit to switch between two windows of the same application. Like if I have three open firefox windows, hitting apple+tab will only let me switch to iTunes or something else, not the other firefox windows. Thanks for the help.

Command -` for switching windows within an application

I ran an update to 10.6.5 last week and suddenly I appear to be unable to scroll between tabs within an application using Cmd - `.
For example, using safari i was able to scroll between tabs using this keyboard shortcut, and in excel I was able to scroll between Workbooks.
I have the option checked under
System Preferences | Keyboard | Keyboard Shortcuts | Keyboard and Text Input | Move focus to next window in application = ⌘`

Switch windows within program in text edit in yosemite

When I started using Mac (back with 10.4 or someting) you could switch windows within programs using cmd+< or cmd+shift+< (cmd+>). This worked for every program, and I see it as an essential core to how OSX handles it's programs windows. And it's a really feature, IMO.
However, some versions back (I don't remember if it was 10.7, 10.8 or 10.9) someone changed this in Mail. When writing an email, the shortcut cmd+< changes the indent level. cmd+shift+< still changes the window. This is VERY frustrating. When I noticed this, I thought "alright, whoever came up with this idea should get fired!" Well guess what? He or she wasn't. This person still works at Apple and has now got his or her hands on Text Edit. In Text Edit in Yosemite, these shortcuts zooms in and out! And there is no longer any shortcut to change the windows within Text Edit. I'll say it again: Please fire this person before he or she destroys more! And make sure to change back so that cmd+< works for all programs.

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Help! - Switching windows within Illustrator

Anybody know the command (shortcut) on how to switch between windows in Illustrator? For example: If I have 2 ai files open and I want to go back and forth between the 2, how do I do that? I obviously know how to do through the window file menu, but is there a quick default command already?
I'm using a PC, Adobe Illustartor CS3.
- Also, anybody know how to change the default swatches library. I want to add my own swatches every time I open up a new document.

Multiple forms in multiple windows within application

hi,
our user wants to be able to open more than one form in multiple windows within the application and have them within the application window at the same time. we are planning to use open_form instead of call_form to do this. however open_form does not let me specify the query mode, so i guess will have to do that manually? what does Oracle recommend as a best practice for applications - to support mutliple windows or not? if yes, as call_form or open_form?

Yes using open form you will have to manually (in code) switch into Query Mode.
We recommend Open Form over call form as it is more memory efficient, of course there are situations when the behaviour of Call Form is useful but generally I'd encorage the use of open.

Quickly switch windows of the same application

Hello,
when I have a lot of applications open, I can use Command-Tab to quickly switch between applications and this is working great. I am looking for a similar functionality to quickly switch between windows of the same application. For example, I have 10 Safari windows open. I am looking for a keyboard shortcut to switch between all open windows of Safari (like you can do with Command-Tab for applications).
I know I can use Expose but this is not convenient. I also can do "click and hold" the application icon to do Expose just on the specific application but if you have a lot of windows open, it is not easy to find the one you are looking for. A keyboard shortcut to loop through open windows in an application would be better.
Any idea?

It depends upon the application. But command-tilde will move you to the next window and command-shift-tilde will move you back in many applications (including Safari).

Switching between Acrobat DC / XI window and another application - cursor selection bug (video and test files attached)

Hi,
When I have Acrobat XI or DC open along side InDesign (or other programs like Acrobat or Word), I run into a bug where upon switching from InDesign to Acrobat, the mouse cursor automatically selects a bunch of text in the Acrobat PDF with a spinning beach ball, and I have to click around multiple times to release it from whatever text it has selected. It is annoyance I noticed in a few versions of Acrobat now, and I had hoped the bug would be fixed in DC. The only way to prevent this from happening is to click anywhere else on the Acrobat window (eg the menu bar or the side tools panel, but not the PDF itself).

Note that no clicking is taking place when switching windows from InDesign to Acrobat - the text in the Acrobat window is being selected automatically by the bug.
If you watch the video carefully, you will also notice that the Acrobat window does not look like it is taking focus during the selection bug - it only takes the focus after clicking around multiple times.

Thanks for the reply. I think the issue is just confined to Mac machines + Adobe products (this issue doesn't occur when I switch from Word Preview 2016, or Office 2011). I can confirm this issue occurs on more than one Mac as well.

It's almost as if the text manipulation / selection from InDesign is carrying over to the Acrobat window, interrupting the normal focus it should get on first click...
Edit: It just occurred with Spotify - Switched from Spotify to Acrobat, with a scanned image PDF. The rectangular selection tool tries to grab a region of the image several times before focus returns to the Acrobat window. It also just happened after manipulating images and text in Word 2016 Preview and Word 2011.

Upgraded Firefox is hanging. When Firefox opens none of the bookmakrs are available immediately. They hang for a monent. When opening up a window in an application (i.e., email address search) the window hangs.

When opening Firefox, the bookmarks hang for up to 30 seconds before they can be accessed. Also have a hanging issue when opening a window/pop-up within an application (i.e., email search window).

Unless the schedule it's running on is every single time I open Firefox (including closing it & reopening it right away), I don't think that's the case. Also, I don't have any of these issues on the PC I switched back to v3.6 on. That one runs smoothly whether I run Ccleaner, registry optimizers, clear the cache & history or whatever. I thought after you first gave me the answer of deleting the session files that they must've got corrupted during the upgrade, but it seems that v4 just doesn't do a good job of retaining or maintaining those files without getting them corrupt or something.
If this is not an issue with everyone & I'm having it on both my PCs, then v4 has an issue with something that I install on my PCs that, I guess, many others don't although I don't know what that could be and I use everything I install or have running. So, I'm just going back to what works without having to dismantle my config one prog at a time to try to find what v4 may be finicky about.
By the way, I did check & couldn't find any cleaners that run automatically on my PCs.

How do I open the updates window in "Adobe Application Manager"? Or can I or should I....??
I am a brand new Cloud member. I heard of the Retina update. Assuming this was where the updates would logically appear I went to the "Adobe Application Manager" app first. Without closing the "Adobe Application Manager" I opened Photoshop and went to the help menu and selected "Updates..."; a second window opened in the already open "Adobe Application Manager".
I selected update all.

Now, I closed the "Adobe Application Manager" and opened "Photoshop" again and again selected "Updates..." from the help menu. The "Adobe Application Manager" opened again with just one window this time and the updates happened correctly.
I was hoping one of the updates would be to the "Adobe Application Manager", I don't think so.
So, If I were you I wouldn't select "Updates..." from an Adobe app unless the "Adobe Application Manager" is closed until they fix it...

How to create large message window in Oracle Applications.

Hi there,
I would like to display a window in Oracle Applications very similar to the window we see when we go to Help-> About Oracle Applications.
Basically I need a window that can display quite a bit of text (hence with a scroll bar) that I can call from custom.pll
I tried using fnd_message.set_string but this cuts off the message if it is too long.
Does anyone know how to do this.

Thank you so much for the idea...i am trying to do this but have run into a problem when closing the form.
I have created a new form from template.fmb, with one window with just one field to display the message and one 'ok' button (that will close the form).
I am now calling this form from within a trigger in CUSTOM.pll.
Basically, when a user clicks on the quanitity field on a purchase order line, i want this message to pop up depending on the item they have selected.
I have used the 'WHEN-NEW-ITEM-INSTANCE' trigger on the quantity field. Once the conditions validates to true, the message pops up... but when I try to close the form (clicking the OK button), it seems like it pops up again as it returns control back to the quantity field and then the trigger kicks in again?
Any ideas as to how I can resolve this.

Command ~ (tilde) to switch windows stops working

Well, actually I guess it is command-` since you don't press shift.
My problem is this command key short cut stopped working. Mac OS 10.4.11 onAlu iMac with 4gb ram. It had been working, but now I noticed it stopped working.
It never worked on my G4 tower but did work on my wifes iBook. It didn't work in my buddies tower but does work on my dads iMac G5.
What the heck? How does a command key shortcut stop working. I get a audible bonk alert when I try to do command-` to switch windows. It used to work.
Any ideas?

Have you checked your keybindings? +(System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts)+ Is there a checkmark next to "Move focus to next window in active application"? Maybe your modifier keys have been altered? +(System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard > Modifier Keys...)+

[SOLVED][KDE, intel] Screen goes gray when switching windows

Hello,
on my EEE netbook, since the xorg update, I guess --noticed today, as I use it for school only --, the screen goes gray after I switch windows via alt+tab. This does not happen every time, but eventually it occures. In that case the whole screen has color of not yet painted window, and the DE is seemingly not responding to anything, I can still move my mose though and cursor moves too. Switching to text console works, but xserver restart is needed to get things back to normal.
I have been using graphics system raster, but change to default didn't solved the issue. The same goes for -lcd font filters. System is up-to-date and uses some SELinux packages from the AUR if that matters, but it should not, as they are not graphics nor DE related.
Would you have any sugestions? I should not be doing any potentially risky operations till thursday, as I need the computer for school and don't have any other available.

EDIT: The situation is simmilar as when I run a program, first a fullscreen window is painted gray, and when everything is loaded its content is painted. This lasts few second in case of big applications like Kontact. In the case of mentioned bug it is like the content of window never painted.
EDIT: So I recompiled bespin-svn, as I remembered, that this package likes to cause trobles, when it is older, and I wanted to mark this solved, as it behaved during the day, but just few minutes ago, the problem happend again.
EDIT: I don't understand it. On monday it happed several times during day. On tuesday it happend once. Since wednesday it didn't happend. Sould I start to beleave in ghosts?

Ok, happend again several times today. Didn't happen at any other PC, but I do not have other Intel based, in case it is graphics related.
As for log (not like I have an idea what to look for) I have error loading fbdev module and some touchpad errors in xorg.log (not imediatelly after the problem), and some Networkmanager warnings.
Damn. Now I failed three times in a row to switch from konsole to rekonq in order to copy those logs. Anyway this is tail -n 50 everything.log (right now X11 screen is just gray and mouse cursor). SELinux can be ignored as it is set permissive.

How to Display XML data on a Window within my JDev App?

I want to display some XML data stored on the database (in a CLOB field) in such a way that the XML tags and values are colored/highlighted as if they were read in a browser like Internet Explorer.
Currently I am displaying the data using a JEditorPane field and the results are hard to read as the tags and values show on the same color and in plain text.
I want to dispay this within my application (9i), not going to an external browser; i.e. I want the window (panel) to act as a browser when displaying the data.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

You can use utl_http in the database to call the webservice and display the result in a form item.

Cmd + tab to change windows and not application

You might clearly see the former Windows and Unix user in me but using cmd+Tab to switch files (not only application) is a really powerful tool. Expose is not close to be as useful. In fact I can't see what good it might be to switch from an application to another.
Any suggestions on how to have cmd + tab change windows?
I think I saw Adobe Photoshop behave that way.

Hitting ctrl-fn-f4 works well (thanks) but the order of the files does not change depending on usage. something the current cmd-tab does.
Quickly swapping is enjoyable when you can swap back and forth between 2 files.
Also, ctrl-fn-f4 does not work well with Words.
While scrolling, the flow of files stopped after le last Word window.
Pressing ctr-fn-f4 again makes nothing anymore and then it does. I'm don't see the logic of the command.
As for cmd-~ (Kappy), it doesn't appear to do anything. It might be because I have a French keyboard (~ is alt-ç).

Automating PDF which is embedded within SAP Application

I am facing the below mentioned problem.
Automating PDF which is embedded within SAP Application
In this case, we need to do some navigations within the PDF like selecting values in the drop-down, checking checkbox etc.
We tried installing Aptt plug-in in our system and recorded using the AcroQTP add-in but still the object gets recognized as one window object.
I tried with different combinations of selecting addins like SAP-Web-VB-AcroQTP, AcroQTP-Web and Acro-QTP.
In all the three cases, the PDF was recognized as one window object.
The details of the application and QTP is,
QTP - 9.5 version
IE - 6.0 version
Application Technology - SAP
Pls let me know if there are any work arounds for this problem.

I have encountered same problem while working SAP application. We have installed the following on our systems:
1. Acrobat 9.4
2. QTP 10
3. AcroQTP plugin
The addin manager displays the plugin but while recording/spying the objects are identified as WinObject on the PDF which is invoked through SAP application.
Could you or anyone from forum can help us out to solve this problem?
