Swoosh Sound

I no longer hear the swoosh sound on ongoing email...how do I get it back?  I used to have it and now it's just gone.

Hello Angela390
It's always particularly helpful when your profile is filled out (and up to date).   Ideally you should mention your product or computer model, the model identifier and the OS you are running.   To find the detail go to …  > About this Mac > (plus) More info.  A rough guide to your location can often help too.    Anyone trying to help you would be greatly encouraged to see this.
See if you can find a minute to do this, maybe we can then answer your question.

  • My ipad doesn't seem to make a sound when it is closed or in sleep mode to let me know there is an imessage until you see it on the screen that someone has imessaged.  When you're taking it makes the swoosh sound, just not when it's in sleep mode.  Help

Am having some problems with the sounds on my ipad, specifically my imessage notification sound when your ipad is in sleep mode and someone is messaging you.  It seems to work with the swoosh sounds when you are actively messaging back and forth, but as soon as I close my ipad up and is locked or in sleep mode, I don't know anyone is messaging me until I look at my ipad.  I've tried a few things.. But nothing has worked so far....Please help!

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

To solve some sound problems, just follow these simple steps
    1. Go to Settings
    2. Tap on General
    3. Tap on Reset
    4. Tap on Reset All Settings
What this effectively does is to reset some of your Settings to factory default. It’s not a complete removal of settings. It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do No Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy. It doesn’t affect your data. All of your email accounts will remain intact, as well as any SMS text or iMessages.

How to get the swoosh sound back when mail gets sent?

I'm talking about my iMac desktop. I have OSX 10.9.5. I used to hear the swoosh sound when I sent an e-mail. Suddenly it's gone, and I can't find out how to get it back. I miss it!

Trax and kirt are correct. I'm pretty good with technology, being an engineer and all, and I can tell you for a fact that this 'swoosh' sound (triggered by a successfully sent SMS) can NOT be disabled from ANY menu in iOS 5. The ONLY way to disable it is to flip the silent switch on the left hand side of the phone. This is extremely annoying for some people (like trax, kirt, and myself). For what we pay for Apple products and, in particular, this phone, we simply didn't expect to have to deal with such annoyances. That's why we're Mac users. Please fix this bug.
I feel like I shouldn't have to say this but it bears repeating: turning off message sounds from the 'sounds' menu does not fix his problem. It still emits the swoosh noise. Whoever suggested this clearly didn't try it because it obviously doesn't work. Who posts a solution to a problem without knowing for a fact that their solution is correct? I find that response condescending because he writer is assuming we're not smart enough to have tried it. In reality, it's vice versa.

  • The swoosh sound my iphone5 made when I moved mail to trash has stopped.  How do I get it back?

The swoosh sound my iphone5 made when I moved mail to trash has stopped.  How do I get it back?

First quit and restart Mail and see if the sound returns. BTW it is selected in Settings > Sounds correct?
Go to the Home screen and double click the Home button. That will reveal the row of recently used apps at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on the app in question until it wiggles and displays a minus sign. Tap the minus sign to actually quit the app. Then tap anywhere on the screen above that bottom row to return the screen to normal. Then restart the app and see if it works normally.
If that doesn't work try a reboot of your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • Random swoosh sound on iPad Air iOS 8

For the last 3 - 4 days my iPad Air iOS 8 and now 8.02 is sending a weird, annoying SWOOSH sound. I have done everything I could think of to get rid of the sound, like restart, reset All Settins, reset Network Setting, sounds off, background App Refresh off but nothing works. My iPad Mini ISO 8 and iPhone 5 iSO 8 are not effected. Does somebody knows hot to get rid of the spooky sound.

    Hello Lola75,
Check which action is set to make the Swoosh sound under Settings, Sounds and change it or set it to none.

  • On my iPad2 the swoosh sound is checked in Settings but neither it nor the jingle when the battery is being recharged now work

On my iPad2 the swoosh sound is checked in Settings but neither it nor the jingle when the iPad is connected for recharging are working. Any ideas ?

Ensure that the mute switch is not activated. If it is not be sure the volume is at a level in which you can hear it. If your still having issues, test the sounds in other applications. If it is affecting multiple things, you may want to attempt a reset by holding the lock/power button and the home button until you see an Apple logo.

iPhone 4s.used to get swoosh sound every time I got an email.  Now I don't and I have to open email for it to connect and get new messages.  What do I do?

Once you purchase or download an app it will always be associated with the Apple ID used to download it. When that app requires and update you must use the Apple ID and password used to download it in the first place. The only way around this is to delete the apps the require the old Apple ID and download or purchase them again with the new Apple ID.

  • Why do  I continually  lose the Swoosh sound  for out going Emails?

Just in the past 3 mos. or so I lost the swoosh sound that indicates that the email from my box has gone out. I need to shut down and restart before it works again. Contacted Apple care twice and after their "fixes" today it's still not working. I just wann know that the mail has gone out!

Click the apple button on the top left, click software update
Click the apple button on the top left, click force quit, force quit mail, close out force quit window
Click the apple button, select shut down, wait 1 minute after shut down, restart the computer
-->if mail outbound is still not making a sound, you may need to reset all settings to default using the com.apple.mail.plist removal (which in this case would POSSIBLY delete everything inside of your email, so if you need anything backed up first, this would be a good time to do it (IMAP typically has a running backup at all times since you are using the server for everything Unlike POP based email). DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS your mail is backed up, and or you know you won't lose anything super important in your mail application.
When you are ready to take the next step if the BOLDED ABOVE doesn't apply/didn't work here is the steps to trying the com.apple.mail.plist reset for LION: (Force Quit Mail, make sure it's not running) select Finder from the dock > Select Go > Hold down the Option Key On the Keyboard > Select Library > Select Preferences from the list > Select com.apple.mail.plis > hit the delete key > empty the trash > restart the computer. You shouldn't lose your mail accounts nor anything, BUT just in case I always ask people to back up first. Again this task is long, but should resolve the email sound issue.

  • How do I get the swoosh sound back?

I had to reinstall my operating system, and now don't have the swoosh sound when mail is sent. I thought I figured it out by going to System Preferences, Sound, and enabling Play user interface sound effects. But by doing that, I get all sorts of annoying sounds, particularly within iTunes. I know I did something before to get the mail swoosh, but not have sounds all the time from the user sound interface. Anyone know how to do this?

I just checked the Previous System Folder, Library. I don't have a Sounds folder
Sounds like you checked the HD/Library directory. Check the Home/Library folder? You should have a Sounds folder. At least in 10.5.6 there is one. Your system info confirms you are still using 10.5.2. Have you considered updating?
I just checked the sounds in Mail Preferences and I do not have the swoosh sound listed as an option to choose. I listened to them all & none of them makes a swoosh sound. Perhaps that sound is not included in os 10.5.6.
If the swoosh sound is not in your Home directory, search the net for the swoosh sound (email sounds), install to your desktop, then move it to the Home directory sound folder.
Go to Mail Preferences/General, select New Mail Sound and from the drop down window select Add. Select your sound.
Repair permissions and restart your computer. Send some mail to yourself to make sure your mail alert is working properly.

  • Why did the swoosh sound turn off in Mail?

Why did the swoosh sound turn off when I send and e-mail message in Mail?
    Thank you.

First is your volume turned up and not muted?
Also check system preferences/sound/sound effects, make sure play sound effects thru internal speakers is checked, make sure alert volume is turned up (not all the way down), Play user sound effects id checked.

  • Lost the "swoosh" sound

I suddenly lost the "swoosh" sound when an email is sent.  I changed nothing in mail preferences.  Suggestions to get the sound back?

Same thing just happened to me. The swoosh sound when sending email from MacBook Pro suddenly vanished and I can find nothing in MAIL or System Preferences or in Mail Help on how to restore it.  I'm using Mountain Lion OS 10.8.5.
I see several other postings about this in 2012, about it happening on iphone also, but I didn't find a solution posted.  Any one know of one?

  • I am vexed by the inability to change in-text swoosh sound.

For the life of me I cannot seem to change the sound the iPhone makes (which is updated and running iOS 7.0.4), and why on earth there doesn't seem to be any configurable options for this is beyond me.  I have just sent a request to Apple asking them to please incorporate this into their update, but I tell you this particular flaw has been about for quite a while.  I've seen similar gripes concerning it, but nothing has been changed.  I am perplexed.  So, I am texting quite a lot and I rely on the text tone to alert me, however I tend to remain within iMessage's interface when texting a single person, but if I put my phone down or step away from it and they text I may not realize it as the phone only makes a low volume (mind you my volume is switched to max and it is not changed with buttons) swoosh.  I think I know what they (Apple) are meaning to do by this as it can be intrusive and obnoxious to hear someone's text tone while texting a million times an hour, but if that's the case I put my headphones on or turn the volume down.  It's almost as irritating as typing the letter k into the text field and having it randomly changed to l or is it I?  That's L or Eye capitalized, I can't seem to tell the difference.  That's a whole other gripe for a later time.  So, I am putting this out there to see if perhaps I've missed something, but I can almost guarantee that I haven't barring turning sound off and vibrate on (which makes little to no sound at all!).  Thanks guys and gals.

The problem is absolutely not Reader. The problem is that FireFox has stepped in front of Reader and handles all the PDF stuff - wrongly in your case. FireFox is DESIGNED to take over PDF files. But it is not capable of doing IRS forms!
To start with go back to IE for these forms. When you save them to disk DO NOT DOUBLE CLICK ON THEM until this is fixed. Just open the in the normal way - start Adobe Reader and use Open from the File menu.
