SYBASE 11.5 to Oracle 8i woes

Just installed workbench 1.2.5 and am trying to migrate a small SYBASE 11.5 database to Oracle 8i.
Capture wizard starts to load up the MASTER database table SYSLOGIN and I get an ORA-12571 error and Workbench goes poof!
I've upgrade the ODBC drivers and have verified my SYBASE ODBC is current. My mahcine I'm running Workbench is Nt 4.0 service pack 4.
Any ideas of where else I should be looking to get around these problems?

Can you turn on ODBC tracing (using ODBC Administrator Tool)
Also put the following lines into your %ORACLE_HOME%\network\admin\sqlnet.ora file :
TRACE_LEVEL_CLIENT=16
TRACE_DIRECTORY_CLIENT=c:\temp
TRACE_UNIQUE_CLIENT=ON
Then send the resulting Oracle c;\temp\sqlnet<xx>.trc file(s) and the ODBC trace file to [email protected]

    Hi,
I want to migrate data from Sybase ASE 15 to Oracle 10g. Can i use OMW for this purpose if not then what is the other way of doing it?
    Kind regards
    Ankit

No, not the current workbench. We will be bringing out support for Sybase 15 in SQL Developer at the next release.
You could try bringing the db down to 12 if that was an option and then migrate from that.

Sorry, we don't support IQ migrations at this time.

  • Migrate peoplesoft sybase HR database to oracle 11g

    Hi All,
We am looking to migrate from sybase 12 to Oracle 11g. We are not sure on which path to choose for this migration to be done. Ths sybase Database is around 55 GB. Below are few questions. Please let me know. The down time on this database can not be more than 2 days at the max.
    1. What is the best and fastest way to do this, if there is one?
    2. Any Documentation on steps involved in migration?
    3. Do we have to use any 3rd party tools for this?
    4. Can we achieve the data migration with sql loader, if yes is it the suggested way to do this and is there any documentation on this?
I tried sql developer to do the migration but it did not go well and finally found that it is not the way to migrate a Database with peoplesoft environment, below is the link to explain more about what I have done with sql developer.
If there is any other information required, below link has almost all the information.

    1)     Build an Oracle Demo system patched to the same release level as the current production system.
    2)     Launch Application Designer and compare the production system to the demo system so you may capture the modifications.
    3)     Load a custom table with the tables listed in the MVPRDEXP.EXP in the production system. Run a script to create an export script for all PSRECDEFN where the RECTYPE is 0. This identifies all application data tables. You may want to dms export large tables in parallel.
    4)     DMS Import the exported data into the Oracle instance.
    5)     Reapply the modifications.

  • Open sybase data base in oracle form

How can I Open sybase data base in oracle form ?

Its not possible to do it directly but you can do it by installing a Transparent Gateway in your Oracle database. You would then connect to the Oracle database and it would route the table references to the Sybase DB with the help of the gateway. You wouldn't be able to utilize all the functionality of the Sybase DB, only the ones exposed by the gateway.

  • Sybase ASE integrator to Oracle 10g use Synchronous mode?

I want to use ODI to replicate Sybase ASE data into Oracle 10g, what I've done is using "JKM Sybase simple" and "LKM SQL to SQL" and "IKM Oracle Incremental Update", then create a interface, create a scenario, create a scheduling running in Scheduler Agent, every 5 seconds get the journalized data from Sybase and refresh to Oracle.
This is acceptable, but my question is: Can I set this scenario in synchronous mode, not pulling changed data every 5 seconds but instead of pushing changed data to Oracle just after DML committed in Sybase?

No, not the current workbench. We will be bringing out support for Sybase 15 in SQL Developer at the next release.

    Hi Ann,
I think this file checks for duplicate names. You may be able to
    work without it.
You may have to perform some manual steps to overcome name
collisions if they occur, but these are usually straightfoward.

  • OMWB Sybase Version ? to Oracle Version ? & Migration Verifer

The documentation states that OMWB will migrate schemas and data from Sybase 11 or 12 to Oracle. My question is what versions are covered? There is a considerable difference between the various version of Sybase 12. My extact migration plan would be move structures and data from a Sybase 12.5.2 server on Solaris 8 to an Oracle 10g R2 server on Solaris 10. I was planning to follow up the migration with the Migration Verifier, but I do not know if it can cover these versions.

12.5 is supported by the Oracle Migration Workbench so you should be fine with this.

  • Migration Sybase 12.5 to Oracle 10G R2

    Hi,
I'm planing to migrate some Sybase ASE 12.5 databases to Oracle 10g Release 2.
The source database reside on Windows 2000 and Target database ( oracle 10g) will be running on Linux. Any idea if Oracle Migration workbench will support such scenerio where Source and Target will be on different OS platform if yes then how to approch and plan such migration, as we have to migrate mostly tables no views or procedures. Is using BCP ( on sybase) and then SQL loader ( on oracle 10g) will be an better approch ,if we use sql loader then how to migrate/create table structure, indexes and constraints etc from source to target .
If anybody have idea please let me know or mail me , any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

    [email protected]

    Hi Amit,
The Oracle Migration Workbench (OMWB) will migrate your tables, views, indexes for you to Oracle. Download it to you windows PC, it can can conneced to Sybase and generate the translated tables to your Oracle database on linux.
If your databases only has a small amount of data (lets say <1GB), you could perform an online data move, where the OMWB 0 "pumps" the data from your Sybase database to Oracle using JDBC. Larger amounts of data are better moved using BCP and SQL Loader, but the OMWB can generate these scripts for you.
    Check out the OMWB here

    hi - just an fyi
we have SQL Server 2012 and from my reads and understanding OGG supports SQL Server up to 2008. not to say it wouldn't work on higher versions if installed. in the link above check out the SQL Server installation chapter. before purchasing the license I would contact Oracle.
maybe someone here has installed it on a higher version and got it to work. we are currently working on setting up OGG to work on Oracle to Oracle servers.

  • Migrate peoplesoft sybase HRMS database to oracle 11g

    Hi All,
I want to know if I can migrate a sybase peoplesoft HRMS database to oracle 11g using sql developer 3.0. I am trying to do this following the steps given in the link below but it is taking for ever for the convert step, I could see the messae saying building converted model.
    http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/db/sqldev/r30/SybaseMigration/SybaseMigration.htm
The sybase database is 55GB and the version is 12. There are around 20,000 tables in Sybase Database.
Please advise, if this is possible with SQL Developer??
If yes, how long this process might take(for each step in the above link), based on any past convertions of the same size database??
If this is not feasable with SQL Developer because of the complexity of the database, are there any other tools we can look into which might be faster/better than SQL Developer.
    Please advise.
    Thanks..

Hi Dermot, Tanks for the reply.
"Do you know the number of views and procedures captured". Below is the ouput from some of the tables in migration repositary.
count from md_derivatives table, grouped by derived_type.
    MD_CATALOGS     1
    MD_USERS     1
    MD_CONNECTIONS     2
    MD_SCHEMAS     4
    MD_TRIGGERS     40
    MD_VIEWS     34316
    MD_TABLES     48048
    MD_INDEXES     55850
    MD_INDEX_DETAILS     112043
    MD_COLUMNS     766244
    Count from md_views table 34316
    Count from md_additional_properties table 110322
"Is there a chance the convert phase has hung, or does it refresh ever so ofter with details of another object being "migrated"?"
It is not hung. I can see the message 'Translating views' right now, and the View names change often but not fast roughly every minute. When I checked for what the session is doing, I could see the below two sql statements.
    SELECT PROP_KEY, VALUE, PROPERTY_ORDER, CONNECTION_ID_FK
    FROM MD_ADDITIONAL_PROPERTIES
    WHERE REF_ID_FK = :1
    ORDER BY PROPERTY_ORDER;
    SELECT ID
FROM MD_TABLES -- Some times this is MD_VIEWS
    WHERE SCHEMA_ID_FK = :1 AND UPPER (TABLE_NAME) = UPPER (:2)
"What is the current "Being migrated" information?"
    Translating View xxx.
"Does the tablespaces your migration repository schema is based on have sufficient space?"
Yes, Since there is no data at this point, it is all done in one table space which is set to grow UNLIMITED. At this point the size of the table space is a little over 500M.
"Is SQL Developer being run on the same machine as the Oracle database containing the migration repository? (conversion can be alot quicker for procedure, view, trigger conversion if SQL Developer is on the same machine as the repository)"
NO. SQL developer is running on my machine but the migration repositary is in the database which is on HP-UX box. Below are some of the details of the server. Also, since the database in on HP-UX, I couldn't find SQL developer for UNIX. I also read in the release note of 3.0 that it is not supported with UNIX, Is that right? else is there a way I can install SQL developer on the Unix server and that might improve the performance!, if yes, please guide me with the steps to do this installation.

  • Migrate Sybase ASE 15 to Oracle 9i

    Hi!
Are there any plans to support migration from Sybase ASE 15.x to Oracle (in my case it would be Oracle 9i) ?
    Thanks

    Hi,
At the moment our current focus is the redevelopment of the Oracle Migration Workbench as an extension to SQL Developer. We have published our statement of direction here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration/migrationtoolsstatementofdirection.htm
Once this is completed, I would expect Sybase to be the next database we would upgrade to this new tool and we would deal with Sybase 15.x as part of this. Sorry, no dates for this yet.
Adventent tool, does support this now

  • Non-Oracle Sybase OCA connected to Oracle Forms

The insert is working fine from Oracle forms to the Sybase database. However, when I exit the application it does a rollback (removing all the inserts). I have tried putting NULL; in the ON-ROLLBACK and ON-SAVEPOINT triggers (as recommended in the documentation). I have used the property class suggested in the demo OPEN_DB. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

The permissions might not have set properly .... I would restore the ORACLE_HOME from a backup and follow Michael's recommendation as mentioned in the following thread.
