Sybase database error
this error happened today and when i restart the process it works for
awhile and comes back. Nothing was done to the server (5.1.x) for months
This is what I get:
ERROR Assertion failed: 200601 (7.0.2.1583)
Page for requested record not a table page page or record not present on
page
It seems like a database error. What are my options?

Oracle Gateway Not Connecting to Sybase database
Hi,
I'm trying to setup an oracle gateway to connect to Sybase database. I followed in details the instructions but still can connect successfully. The Oracle database is in RAC environment. Below are the steps I took:
The oracle gateway and oracle database are in the same server while Sybase is on a separate unix box.
1. create an initdg4sybs.ora file
# This is a customized agent init file that contains the HS parameters
# that are needed for the Database Gateway for Sybase
# HS init parameters
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO=[999.99.108.99]:4527/common ## IP address of sybase server
HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL=ON
HS_FDS_RECOVERY_ACCOUNT=RECOVER
HS_FDS_RECOVERY_PWD=RECOVER
2. create a listener on the oracle gateway home
# listener.ora Network Configuration File: /u03/app/oracle/gateway/11.2/network/admin/listener.ora
# Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
LISTENER_DG4SYSBS =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =

TRACE_FILE_LISTENER_DG4SYSBS = /u03/app/oracle/gateway/11.2/network/admin/LISTENER_DG4SYBS.trc
INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT_LISTENER_DG4SYSBS=0
3. create tnsnames.ora in oracle database home
dg4sybs =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 99.999.155.26)(PORT = 1543)) #IP address of Node A
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED) #added for single node test
(SID = dg4sybs)
(HS=OK)
4. create database link
create database link dg4sybs connect to "user" identified by "password" using 'dg4sybs'
5. when testing the connection; i'm getting below error message. tried all the setup based my research and couldn't make it work.

JDBC query with Sybase database
Hi Folks,
I am working with Oracle 9i Reports Builder connecting to Sybase database using jdbc-odbc driver type.
I could connect to the database, use a simple query and generate reports.
Problem is only when, I use a variable in WHERE clause and have
1. group functions in SELECT statements (i.e. sum(), count()..)
2. NOT IN operations in one of conditions
Error message was thrown saying "Incorrect Syntax near ':.' "
(I declare a variable in USER PARAMETER and use the same in WHERE clause by refering say "where trandate=:m_trandate".)
Though there is no syntax error AT ALL. Am very sure about it, because when I execute the same statement in "isql" , it works perfectly.
Can anyone, let me know whether Is it a limitation on Report Builder with Sybase db or Is any configuration do I miss??
Also, let me know if there is any work around process to handle this situation.
Sample Query I tried :
select item, avg(rate) from inventory
where item=:mitem /* mitem is a variable */
group by item
Any information is welcome.
Thanks & Regards
Anand
Mail ID: [email protected]Hi Sachin,
I too, got through the issue. Sorry am bit late in updating you. But still I would say it is not on consistent(my feedback as per I grabbed from the behavior. Say, I accepted the query in a particular order of WHERE clause, then If I change the order it will throw an error message saying "Incorrect syntax".)
Anyway working fine. Thanks for your immediate response with useful hints.
Rgds
Anand
Hi Anand,
Yes, JDBCPDS accepts all Select queries which follows SQL Specification.
It would be a valid query as per the database used.
Please try again, Bind parameters can be placed in any or all of the conditions of SQL Query in JDBCPDS.
I am able to use them in both the cases you told.
With Regards

Backup the entire sybase database
I am doing a project in avaya. I installed ipocc(a avaya product) in windows.
Ipocc it self have sybase database. I try to take a backup it show me threshold error.

Error encountered by Backup Server. Please refer to Backup Server messages for details.that's not a command, that's a path
see if you can open a query window, and run the command manually
e.g. the command that Bret already posted
dump database mydatabase to 'C:\Users\Administrator\Desktop\Backup\mydatabase.19Jan2015.dmp'
replace mydatabase by the actual database name.
Or run a test for the master database, which should create a small backup file
dump database master to 'C:\Users\Administrator\Desktop\Backup\master.19Jan2015.dmp'
just a side comment, your desktop might not be the best place to store backup files... -

Distributed Polling Not working for Sybase Database poller Proxy
I am using a Proxy service which is polling records from a sybase database. When I tried to deploy this proxy in a clustered environment I noticed sometimes it is polling the same record twice. So I tried to enable distributed polling in my proxy by adding *<lock-mode>lock-no-wait</lock-mode>* in my topplink_mapping.xml file. But activating this change resulted error in the log file stating "Incorrect syntax near 'NOWAIT'".
Later on I found out that it is a known issue ...for reference check [http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/docs/aiasoarelnotesps5-1455925.html|http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/docs/aiasoarelnotesps5-1455925.html] with bug # 13405718.
So I am stuck here...and no solution yet.
Any suggestion??You can Emulate AQ functionality for any Non-Oracle Database where sometimes the *Clustered DB-Adapter[Poller]* polls the same record more than once.
Say, you need to poll 'status' column of table 'A' for a status 'POLL_IT'
1. Create a Table 'DUMMY_AQ' matching required column signatures from table 'A'
2. Create a Trigger on table 'A' for copying the row content on Insert or Update for status 'POLL_IT' in to 'DUMMY_AQ' table;
3. Poll DUMMY_AQ with Row Level Read lock & Delete On Read , that way it will is ensured that so that only One Instance of your Clustered DB Adapter can have visibility to any newly inserted row having status 'POLL_IT' . -

I think that backups may also have this error.
Can the database be salvaged?
Thank you,
DougHi Doug,
The error seems to be saying that a pointer is pointing to an invalid page.
Actually, the assertion message is suggesting that we were scanning for a row (record) on a particular page where we expected to find it, and didn't - the table page is likely corrupt.
Does a utility exist which would eliminate all pointers to invalid pages?
No. If the database is corrupted, it is best to move to your database recovery procedure from a valid backup. See KBA 1959391 - How can a SQL Anywhere (stand alone) database be restored from a full or incremental backup?
If you do not have a valid database backup but can still start and connect to the corrupted database (and it seems that you can), you can attempt to salvage the data out of the corrupted database tables manually to extract it to a new database (as Jinwoo suggested). See KBA 1959030 - How To Salvage Data When There are Corrupt Pages in the Database. Using -e to skip tables is appropriate and then trying to select the data that is not contained on invalid pages via the KBA instructions is your best option in this case.
Does sap/sybase offer a recovery service?
No, there is no such "recovery service" underneath SAP and any previous mentions of salvages were one-off contracts underneath Sybase Professional Services, and not a technical support service. These contracts are not available at SAP.
This topic was discussed thoroughly on the SQL Anywhere forum ( http://sqlanywhere-forum.sap.com/ ) previously here and here.
The prevention for this situation is to have properly validated backups, preferably in multiple backup generations to provide many opportunities for recovery. See: http://wiki.scn.sap.com/wiki/x/3QNcFg

Power Query - Sybase iAnywhere Error
Hi,
When I try to connect using From Sybase Database I get the following error. I have the Sybase SQL Anywhere installed. (C:\ProgramData\SybaseIQ\Samples\SQLAnywhere) I have Windows 7 64 bit. Any direction as to why Power Query does not see SQL Anywhere?
DataSource.NotFound: Sybase SQL Anywhere: Unable to find a database provider with invariant name 'iAnywhere.Data.SQLAnywhere'.
This error may have been the result of provider-specific client software being required but missing on this computer. To download client software for this provider, visit the following site and choose at minimum 'Sybase SQL Anywhere Client Software':

LaurenHi Lauren,
When installing the Sybase, please make sure the Sybase ADO.NET provider is installed correctly.

Hello everyone,
Before installing zfd4 IR 5 it was possible to backup the sybase database
with the startser dbbackup command from the server console with cron.
See document in cool solutions "Automating the backup of the sybase database
in zfd4.x" by Shaun Pond.
After installing zfd4 IR5 it doesn't work anymore.
I have added in the properties files the section [DBBackup Service] in the
properties file.
This section is shown up in a listser * on the console.
I get the following error in the logger screen when doing a startser

Dear Expert,
I am using Sybase Database 15.0 with unix, as i new to Sybase please me how to take backup of Sybase Database.
i get the below error
1> dump database pubs2 to 'd:\dump'
2> go
Msg 7205, Level 17, State 2:
Server 'BHAVANIPC', Line 1:
Can't open a connection to site 'SYB_BACKUP'. See the error log file in the ASE
boot directory.
Msg 7205, Level 18, State 3:
Server 'BHAVANIPC', Line 1:
Can't open a connection to site 'SYB_BACKUP'. See the error log file in the ASE
boot directory.
Also we opened the backup server
Thanks & Regards,
AkhilaYou mentioned 'Sybase Database 15.0 with unix' on you post,
so you must make sure your backup server was started and working ok by following method:
under unix command line, issue 'showserver' command to list servers online, and grep 'backupserver' only
$showserver |grep backupserver
Example:
/data/ase1570 > showserver |grep backupserver
0 S sybase 19210 19209 0 80 0 - 5788 - Aug01 ? 00:00:00 /data/ase1570/ASE- 15_0/bin/backupserver -SSYB_BACKUP -e/data/ase1570/ASE-15_0/install/SYB_BACKUP.log -N25 -C20 - M/data/ase1570/ASE-15_0/bin/sybmultbuf
isql to connect to ASE15 server, and issue 'sp_helpserver SYB_BACKUP' to check if SYB_BACKUP server host is available ?
$isql -Usa -Psa_pwd -SASE15
1> sp_helpserver SYB_BACKUP
2> go
Example:
1> sp_helpserver SYB_BACKUP
2> go
name network_name security_mechanism server_principal class
status
id cost
SYB_BACKUP SYB_BACKUP NULL NULL ASEnterprise
timeouts, no net password encryption, writable , enable login redirection
1 NULL
isql to connect to ASE15 server, and issue 'SYB_BACKUP...sp_who' to test connection from ASE to Backup server is OK !!
$isql -Usa -Psa_pwd -SASE15
1> SYB_BACKUP...sp_who
2> go
Example:
1> SYB_BACKUP...sp_who
2> go
spid status loginame hostname blk
cmd
1 sleeping NULL NULL 0
CONNECT HANDLER
2 sleeping NULL NULL 0
DEFERRED HANDLER
3 runnable NULL NULL 0
SCHEDULER
11 runnable NULL ASE1570 0
SITE HANDLER
12 running sa sgsinvm0256 0
NULL
if the above checking is all ok, then you should be able to dump database without problem !!
BTW, you must notice you are using SAP Sybase ASE 15.0 with Unix , so the dump directory should be Unix filesystem format such as '/backdir/pubs2.dmp' rather than Windows filesystem format such as 'd:\pubs2.dmp' !!
HTH ! Thanks !!

Hi
I am trying to connect Sybase database for updating tables, for this I deployed JConnect 6.05 driver in XI7.0 system. When I try to connect, I am receiving following error
JZ0D5: Error loading protocol com.sybase.jdbc3.tds.Tds
Did any of you come across this problem?
Thanks
ReddiHi SSG,
Which version of drivers JConnect you are using?
I am using 6.05.I had settings as follows
Driver : com.sybase.jdbc3.jdbc.SybDriver
Connection :
jdbc:sybase:Tds:<ip>:2638/<bdname>
Later as you suggested i changed as follows
Driver : com.sybase.jdbc3.jdbc.SybDriver
Connection :
jdbc:sybase:Tds:<ip>:2638?SERVICENAME=<bdname>
Still having problem as
Attempt to establish database connection failed with SQL error Cannot establish connection to URL 'jdbc:sybase:Tds:<ip>:2638?SERVICENAME=<dbname>': SQLException: JZ0D5: Error loading protocol com.sybase.jdbc3.tds.Tds.
Appreciate your reply.

Unable to connect to Sybase databases in EPM V11
Hello,
I have installed EPM 11 on a linux rel 5 x64 machine and able to connect to Oracle dbs but having problems with sybase databases. Checked the odbc.ini that it is pointing to the right files. I have tried to start, stop and restart the Data access service, defined using ODBC and Sybase System but nothing seems to help.
I get the folling error in html and the 2018 error in the IR web client.
An Interactive Reporting Service error has occurred.-Failed to acquire requested service.
Error Code: 2001
The Oracle db connections seemed to be fine. Sybase connections using isql are fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
ShrinathI had that problem for almost a year, both with a Linksys router and with a Netgear router. Finally purchased a Belkin router (the N1 Vision, which we absolutely love!) and have not had the problem one single time since - in over 3 months. I did a lot of reading on the Linksys and Netgear forums and found that a lot of people were having the same problem. I have a new problem though, about 2 months ago my TouchSmart began to tell me I don't have a wireless network adapter installed - I typically have to reboot it anywhere from 7-13 times before it will recognize it. Any ideas or similar problems with that situation?
