Sybase IQ or DB2 for BW on HANA NLS

BW on HANA experts --  can you please provide me some pros & cons of leveraging Sybase IQ for BW HANA NLS and DB2 for BW HANA NLS?   I own licenses for both, so license cost is not a concern...   I'm asking more from an capabilities and roadmap perspective.
thanks in advance for your input.

    Hi,

Also check out the note :
For SCM Add-On Products like SAP SNC, SAP EM, SAP F&R the basis component (SAP Netweaver Release) has to be also assigned as relevant Product Instance
Might be helpful, if you check the product versions being reported for the system in the SLD.

  • How to install DB6(DB2 for LUW) on a windows 2008 R2 failover cluster NodeB

    Hi Gurus,
I am building a ECC6 EhP4 cluster on windows 2008 R2, I am following the installation guide chapter 7(document name: Installation guide SAP ERP6.0 EhP4 Ready SR1 ABAP on windows: IBM DB2 for Linux, Unix and Windows). But the step listed in the guide are not so clear and I have trouble for the database installation on the second node.
    What I have done is:
    1. 7.4.1 Preparing the database for MSCS step1 and 3
    2. 7.4.2 Windows Server 2008: Creating the sap services and application
    3. 7.4.3 Installing the central services Instance for ABAP (ASCS)
    4. 7.4.4 Configuring the first MSCS node
    5. 7.4.5 Installing the database instance on an mscs node(as i have done 7.4.1, i got some error in this step, then i checked some note and in note 1493410, it mentioned don't do step 7.4.1, so I uninstall the DB2, and get this step finished)
    6. 7.4.6 Configuring the database for MSCS
    7. 7.4.7 Configuring the Additional MSCS Node
    8. 7.4.8 Installing an Enqueue Replicaiton Sever
    9. 7.4.9 Installing the central instance
    10. 7.4.10 Installing the dialog instance
Now I got problem on the database group, I cannot fail this to the second node. the DB2 Server resource cannot bring online to the second node. I think step 1, 4 and 5 may has some issue, but I don't know how should I install this database.
note 1493410's word confusing me, below is part of that note:
Chapter "Preparing the Database for MSCS"
You must not apply this chapter at the beginning of the installation. Instead, start the installation process with the next chapter "Configuring the First MSCS Node"
Follow the instructions in chapter "Preparing the Database for MSCS" in the exit step described in the chapter "Installing the Database Instance on an MSCS Node" before executing the db2mscs tool on the additional MSCS node only.
Point "3. Install all required operating system users ..." of this chapter is obsolete.
Anyone think my cluster still have chance to be fixed or I need rebuild it from scratch again. If I need build it again, I still don't know how to do the database installation on the second node
    BR,
    Peter

    Hi pal,
Have you identified Ips and group  names on which your sap application and DB should run..
    I will give a overview...
    Exam ples -
    NODE A                  - 192.168.x.1
NODE B                   - 192.168.x.2 are the one which you idetify physical systems
    1) Identify the drives you want to map for application and DB and make a partation and name the drives
    2) Initially  create Microsoft cluster service which creats cluster group----
CLUSTER GROUP   - 192.168.x.3 - Cluster name could be any thing meaningful...
    Quorum  disk          - 192.168.x.4 - 1 Gb drive
In point 2 if you are creating Cluster service with Heart ips you will naother ips for NODE A and NODE B ( 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.2)
    3) Test and validate cluster configuration and ensure no erros are reflected
Above activities can be done with the help of OS Admin....
Now start working with SAP installation, even before that identify 2 names and ip address for SAP installation
Application group name can be as follows  --
    APPLPRD - 192.168.-x..5
Database group name can be as follows -
    DBPRD - 192.168.x.6
You when you identify above drives for file systems and groups , you can start installation as mentioned in th guide...
Also let us know if you atrying to install EHP4  or EHP4.. as there some corrections to be followed in EHP4..
Open a new thread if you facing futher issues...
    thanks,

  • How to connect from SAP on DB2 for i5/OS to external oracle database

    Hello,
I managed to retrieve data from an external DB2 for i5/OS database using ABAP Native SQL running on another i5/OS server.
I also managed to retrieve data from an external oracle database using ABAP Native SQL running on another Windows/Oracle server.
Now i want to use ABAP Native SQL running on an i5/OS and retrieve data from an external Oracle database?
I suppose i need software to connect fron I5/OS to this oracle database like you need extra software when you want to connect to an i5/OS database if you are running SAP on Windows (read note 751451)
    Does anybody know?
    Thanks in advance
    Bertil Rebergen

    Hello Bertil,
to access an Oracle database from within an SAP system you'll need SAP's database interface library specific for Oracle plus the Oracle database client library utilized by SAP's database interface library. Both need to be available for the operating system your application server runs on, i.e. IBM i5/OS in your scenario.
Since the required Oracle database client software is not available for IBM i5/OS your SAP application servers on IBM i5/OS cannot access your Oracle database.
To overcome this limitation you would need to add at least one additional SAP application server based on Windows or Linux/Power to your current SAP system utilizing IBM DB2 for i5/OS. Since the required software libraries are available for these two operating systems you will be able to solve your problem this way.
Best Regards, Christian Hoelters, SAP AG.

  • System refresh in DB2 for zOS with dual stack

Has anyone performed system refresh (Abap + J2ee) in DB2 for zOS.
We are planning to do it but the homogeneous document outlined the database specific methods and it doesn't cover the j2ee part.
Is there any specific methods to follow to bring up the j2ee after the system copy?
    Vijay

    Hello,
please see Homogeneous System Copy guide for the export options using SAPinst and note http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1059145 for the additional steps on the import side.

  • Two billion record limit for non-partitioned HANA tables?

Is there a two billion record limit for non-partitioned HANA tables? I've seen discussion on SCN, but can't find any official SAP documentation.

    Hi John,
Yes there is a limit for non-partitioned tables in HANA. In the first page of this document says: SAP HANA Database – Partitioning and Distribution of Large Tables
A non - partitioned table cannot store more than 2 billion rows. By using partitioning, this
limit may overcome by distributing the rows to several partitions. Please note, each partition must not contain more than 2 billion rows.
    Cheers,
    Sarhan.

    Hi Team,

And we know that SLT supports the same.
Would like to know if there was any customer case or Valuable points to be taken care for the same?
PS: Writing this thread to get a quick help if anybody has done the same already. Meanwhile we are trying to setup the same and check.

  • Download Sybase ASE 15.7 for  BS: SAP or Sybase ASE?

    Hi!
I planning to install (system copy) an NW70EHP2 system with Sybase. There are two types of Sybase ASE installation materials:
What type of recommended for the installation? The SAP ASE or the Sybase ASE?
    Thank you!
    Regards
    Janos

    Hi Janos,
"Sybase ASE" was renamed to "SAP ASE" so don't let the names bother you. What you install will be somewhat driven by what you are running today and what you want from the new version. If you don't have any current install, then you should use SP110, even though it is older than SP61.
If you have a current install that is SPxx (2-digit number), you can move to SP61 and get bug fixes and a few little features. You can also move to SP1xx (3-digit number) and you get more new features that are not included in SPxx. If you have SP1xx, do not move down to SPxx.
After you click on "Sybase", click "Database Patches" (not "Database"), then "Sybase ASE 15.7 for Bus Suite", then "Windows on x64 64bit". Here you will see SP103, SP110, and SP61.

  • How to make a BW Infoprovider for a SAP HANA Calculation-/Analytcial-View

    Hi
    I have got a BW 73 with a Hana.
How can I  make a BW Infoprovider for a SAP HANA Calculation-/Analytcial-View in SAP BW ?
    Thank You
    Best Martin

    Hi Rekha,
No need to do anything, just we need do migrate standard info cube to In-memory Optimized Info Cube. Once it is turned to In-Memory optimized Info Cube(We will have F table surrounded by master data tables) and no dimension tables in HANA.
F-tables is nothing but Analytic View in HANA and Master data tables are nothing but Attributes in HANA.
once you migrate to In-Memory Info Cube, your tables are ready in HANA and you can create different view.
have a look at the below videos.

Below is the error message I got when tried to do a query using the above data source from a rules file: ODBC Layer Error: [57] ==> [[DataDirect][ODBC 20101 driver][20101]SQL Anywhere Error -143: Column '@@maxpagesize' not found].
Our system info: Essbase 931 on linux, Sybase IQ 15.1
    Can anyone please advise.
    thanks

I remember having used Sybase(as a SQL source) for Essbase in UNIX, few years ago.
Not sure if it's any different from Sybase IQ you are referring to? Are you stuck up some where?

  • Best practices for PAL and HANA Modeling

    Hi all
I wanted to get your opinion on working with Predictive Analysis Library and SAP HANA modeling- analytical views, calculated views, etc.
If I have transactional data modelled into analytical view and now wish to run a predictive function on some of it's columns, what are you guys' suggestions on how to best go about building a PAL model within HANA?
Do I run the PAL procedure every time the table is updated? How do I decide on the frequency of the pal procedure? Any tips?
And do I use triggers for automated procedure runs?
What are some of the best practices?
If this has been brought up before, please point me to the right discussion.
    Thanks!

  • What is hana ? does the syntax for abap in hana changes ?

    Hi All,
I am very much interested to know HANA.
can any one please explain me ???
can we use normal ABAP syntax for HANA?
    Regards,
    Abdul

    Hi Abdul,
first of all I suggest you to look into the detailed info material available here in this space. A good introduction for developers is to look into our reference scenario page: ABAP for SAP HANA Reference Scenario
With our SAP HANA Database existing ABAP Coding will still run like on any other database. But with SAP HANA you also have the possibility to leverage specific features of this database.Information about these features can be found here: New ABAP for HANA features in SAP NW 7.4 SP5
If you want to try it out yourself, here is a new end-to.end guide: Brand-new ABAP 7.4 for SAP HANA End to End Deve... | SCN
