Syching Old iPhone backup with New iPhone
I previously owned one of the original first generation iPhones, but that was recently stolen so I got a new 3GS for Christmas. I am syching it with my computer for the first time and iTunes is asking me if I would like to synch the new phone with my old phone's information. I need to know a few things before I can decide;
1. Will the syching process completely erase everything I have on my new phone currently in favor of the old backup information (ex. contacts, notes, calender events, pictures, ect)?
2. Would this be safe for the new phone, or would there be software problems between the different generations?
Thanks
A new iPhone is not synced with the backup for a previous iPhone. When connecting a new iPhone to iTunes that was used to sync a previous iPhone, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the previous iPhone to the new iPhone. This will transfer the backup for your previous iPhone to your new iPhone as of the time your previous iPhone's backup was update.
This link provides the data included with your iPhone's backup.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
After the backup is transferred to the new iPhone, this must be followed by a sync with iTunes to transfer the data to your new iPhone based on your selections under the various tabs for your iPhone sync preferences, which will be pre-selected for your new iPhone based on the selections you had under the various tabs for your previous iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
1. Will the syching process completely erase everything I have on my new phone currently in favor of the old backup information (ex. contacts, notes, calender events, pictures, ect)?
Yes.
2. Would this be safe for the new phone, or would there be software problems between the different generations?
The current iPhone firmware version can be run on every iPhone generation - on the original iPhone, on the 3G, and on the 3GS.

Accessing (continuing) old Time Capsule backup with new Powerbook
Using Migration assistant I set up my new MacBook Pro. I read that I could access my Old Timecapsule backup with Lion. I followed the steps alt click on timecapsul in the Doc (actually not the dock ...up where the ICON is upper right) Selected Browse other Backup disks selecked my backup but nothing happens. It keeps trying to set up a new backup and the old data is not retrievable. I would like to continue to use the old backup. How do that. No dialog pops up offering access ...nothing. I installed Lion after I migrated and after my first atempt to access Timecapsule data.
Oh old mac had motherboard replaced so can't access the Timecapsule with that anymore either.Hi L,
The following site has a lot of info on TM; you might want to see if you can find your answer there: http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html -

If you need to extract the drive's content you can remove it and install it in a $10 USB enclosure. It will be readable by any recent Mac. -
How can I use the old Apple TV with new iTunes? It tells me to input a code in iTunes but iTunes no longer has a spot to input this code to allow sync. I can access the iTunes Store fine, just none of my Library

I'd like to know how can i connect my old iMac tiger with new one iMac lion. I wanna use the old one for external disk to collect files from there to new one.
Hi mshields1162,
Great question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
First, you may want to choose to have the sidebar displayed for familiarity:
iTunes 11: Frequently used features
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5649
Afterwards, your device should be displayed if connected:
We'll want to click on it, and choose the Music tab at the top. Let's make sure "Sync Music" is checked:
Afterwards, you'll have the option to sync either the entire music library (for your first iPod), or "Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres" (for the secondary device). Upon selecting this option, four larger option boxes will appear allowing you to pick and choose what content will be synced. For audiobooks, you may need to do the above in the "Books" section. For a visual instruction on how to do this, see the following:
iTunes 10: Sync to your iPod

Is there a way to burn old cd's with new cd's and get the same volume/quality on playback?
is there a way to burn old cd's with new cd's and get the same volume/quality on playback?
RIP the CD as AIFF or WAV.
Create a playlist then burn an audio CD. -
Have mac mini with thunderbolt monitor 1yr old, recently updated with new 10.0.2 from apple, now iMovie doesn't seem to support my Sony HDR-XR500 camera. Is there any help on this?
haha, so now i'm thinking. I'm learning the terminal as fast as i can but there are several lines of codes and commands in there that throws up red flags to me that i don't fully understand. It just looks fishy too me. It would be highly appreciated if someone could just check this out just to tell me that i don't need to worry about it. Or point me in the right direction. I just feel un easy about this. ha.

Upgraded from iPhone 4 to iPhone 5, but my iTunes is too old to backup the new phone.
I have a Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 running Mac OS X 10.5.8. Prior to purchasing my iPhone 5, I backed everything up to iTunes 10.6.3, which is the latest version my Mac will allow me to install. I traded in my old iPhone 4 and was excited to get home with my shiny new iPhone 5 and restore from backup. However, when I connected the iPhone 5 to my computer it said, "The iPhone cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.7 or later. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes."
When I downloaded the latest version of iTunes, my computer told me, "You can't open the application 'Read Before You Install iTunes' because it is not supported on this architecture." When I tried to bypass the note and install iTunes directly, I was told, "iTunes cannot be installed on this computer."
I have nothing but a shiny new iPhone. I was able to retrieve my contacts from iCloud and re-install apps from the app store, but I have none of my notes. Many of these notes are important and I was wondering if there is a way to get them back. Please help.Obviously, your Mac is old, and you don't need me to tell you that. Indeed what you're seeing is correct -- you need at least iTunes 10.7 (or the current 11.0) to interface with your iPhone 5.
Assuming you do not care to update your computer hardware, another option would likely be to use an Apple Store (if one is nearby). I would guess if you stopped by the Apple Store with your iPhone and your PowerPC, they might well help you by using an intermediate Mac to house your Notes and transition them to your iPhone from there. -
Time machine cant see old backups with New Macbook
Hello, I recently migrated from an iMac to a MacBookPro6. I plugged in my externals hard drive into my Macbook and was accessing old backups from my iMac without a problem. THEN I used the hard drive to backup with time machine and now I cannot access any of my iMac files. I no longer have permissions. I no longer have the iMac. Is there any way to access these old files or retrieve permissions with my new Macbook?
Thanks in advanceThanks ClayG, thanks Rodrigo
I work at a university so will take Clay's suggestion to my IT guy (he suggested I post here). Im sure it will make more sense to him than me:)
To answer your querey, yes I can use the hard drive with my new computer, that wasnt the issue, it was only retreiving the old files.
Thanks again to both of you for taking the time

I have replaced my old Mac Mini with new one. What should I do about my Time Capsule?
With the old Mac Mini (2009 model) I used Time Machine and a Time Capsule to back up everything on the Mac Mini itself and on external hard drive I added when I needed more storage space. I've replaced the old Mac Mini with a 2011 model, and migrated the contents of the old one to the new one from Time Machine.
I'm now trying to figure out what I should do to my Time Capsule and/or Time Machine to make backups going forward of the same content, now on my new Mac Mini and same external hard drive.
When I go into Time Machine, it does not seem to recognise the items on the external hard drive as ones that I can backup (or not, as there were some items there that I did not and do not wish to backup to Time Capsule) through the new Mac Mini.
I am uncertain too whether the Time Machine/Time Capsule will recognise the items of my old Mac Mini as the same ones that are now on my new Mac Mini and save changes there, or whether it will try to save all over again all the same items, as they are now on a different computer.
My inclination is to clear out the contents of the Time Capsule now and start all over again.
I have looked through information provided by Apple but not found answers to my questions. The situation concerning the hard drive is complicated. It is not included in the list of Excluded Items.
If the drive is not "Excluded", then it must be included. That is the way that Apple's software works.
But, nor am I given the option to select it or any of the items in it for adding to the list of Excluded Items.
If you want to add an item to the list of Excluded items, click the + button at the bottom of the Excluded list, then navigate to select the drive to add it. Once the drive has been added, you can go back in and select the items.
When I go into the exclude from backup area and select the hard drive, it and the items in it appear in dimmed form, but I cannot select them.
Sorry, I do not understand what you are trying to say here.
What I want to do, but cannot, is what I did before, select one of the items in it not to be backed up and leave the rest to be backed up
I have no idea how you were able to do this. As long as I can remember, Time Machine will not allow you to pick and choose items on a drive to be backed up or excluded. Your option is to have the entire drive backed up, or the entire drive to not be backed up.
have not seen the 'Quick Erase' option.
You would use AirPort Utility to erase the Time Capsule drive. Open AirPort Utillty and click the Disks tab at the top of the screen. Then, click Erase Disk. The Quick Erase option will appear. -
TS4036 restore previous iphone5 backup with new iphone5 backup
i backed up to icloud & then replaced my defective iphone5 with a new iphone5. Only the new iphone5 is being backed up now to icloud, However i can see the old iphone5 backup in my icloud list of backups. How can i choose certain items to restore from my previous iphone5 to my new iphone5?
I'm afraid that you can't choose to only restore part of a backup. Restoring the backup is all or nothing.

Re-pairing TM backup with new Mac
I recently restored my Time Machine backup on a new iMac. This went fine, but I no longer seem to be able to use the existing Time Machine backups.
There is one somewhat relevant article on macosxhints, but the re-pairing procedure mentioned there does only work for a replaced logic board and not for an entirely new Mac. (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1888391)
Is there a way to re-pair the existing Time Machine backup with the new iMac?
EDIT: The two iMacs do not have the same specs. The old one is from late 2006, while the new one is from either mid 2007 or late 2008.
Message was edited by: ddfreyneDoes the iMac have the same specs as the old Mac? If so, than the instructions from the post you cited about the logic board will work, since the MAC address is what pairs a TM Backup with a computer.

Associate TM Backups with New Computer?
Hi All,
I have TM backups going back to Feb. 2008 from an older Mac Mini -- on an external hard-drive. Recently I bought a new Mac Mini.
Now the challenge is to somehow transfer -- or maybe 'associate' is the better word -- the old backups with the new machine. I've got nothing on the new machine at the moment.
Is there a help page that someone can point me to?Bingo, I think this one does it:

Way simpler than I thought -- assuming it works... -
Maverick TimeMachine deletes old weekly backups with no reason
Hi,
I use 10.9.4 and I found that TimeMachine deletes old weekly backups so that there are now 14-days backups.
I see no reason.
To make it clearer: Old backups from 2014-04-18, 2014-05-02, 2014-05-23, 2014-06-13 and 2014-06-27 were deleted.

Any ideas?
MarkusI was about to try this, but the problem was solved - by updating to ML DP3. Time Machine was able to report more specifically a UUID mismatch - which was strange as there had been no hardware changes:
Event store UUIDs don't match for volume: MacBook Air
Deep event scan at path:/ reason:must scan subdirs|new event db|
Finished scan
Found 360330 files (16.14 GB) needing backup
21.25 GB required (including padding), 17.99 GB available
Deleted backup /Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb/MacBook Air/2012-05-06-132701.inProgress/36723EA8-68F9-4519-A71B-426EEEE06222 containing 896.2 MB; 18.88 GB now available, 21.25 GB required
Deleted backup /Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb/MacBook Air/2012-05-06-132701.inProgress/73A7127D-0521-46C0-AD8F-F7C6B6621F86 containing 4 KB; 18.88 GB now available, 21.25 GB required
Removed 2 expired backups so far, more space is needed - deleting oldest backups to make room
Deleted backup /Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb/MacBook Air/2011-10-08-102105 containing 10.75 GB; 29.63 GB now available, 21.25 GB required
Deleted 3 backups containing 11.64 GB total; 29.63 GB now available, 21.25 GB required
Backup date range was shortened: oldest backup is now 15 Oct 2011
Copied 2.7 MB of 16.14 GB, 106708 of 360330 items
Copied 5.6 GB of 16.14 GB, 360849 of 360849 items
Bulk setting Spotlight attributes failed.
Copied 394370 files (8.46 GB) from volume
Upshot is that after many hours it's back, and the sparseimage has been verified.
If it's of any use to anyone finding this, I would say that the solution seems to have been a Mac OS reinstall - which is counter-intuitive, but if all else fails, give it a go! -
Repalce old user ID with new user ID in Org Plan
Hi,
I have a requirement. In our company, we have different type of user IDs for permanent employees and contractors.
Whenever the contractors postion gets confirmed we will create a new user ID for that person.
Now this new user ID has to be updated in the SRM org plan.
As the user's old user ID is already assigned in the org plan and at the same time user have created lot of shopping carts, we want to replace his old user ID with the new one so that all the shopping carts will not get deleted.
Basically I want to know, how to unassign the user ID from business partner and assign a new user ID.
Is it possible to replace like that? Please advise.
Thanks,
SS
Edited by: SRM Stranger on Apr 10, 2009 1:26 AMHi,
I noticed a feature in txn: BP --> Relationship
In the relationship category, I could see two categories: Replaced by, Is replacing. Not sure what is the exact functionality of that.
Do any one knows about that feature? Could you please advise me on that field?
Also, Is it possible to change the validity period of BP or user assignment ?
Will the above two resolve my issue?
Since user has created many shopping carts and user needs access to those SC with his new users ID, I would like to confirm with you before taking any risk.
Please help.
Thanks,
SS
