Sycn error -50 with iTunes 5 and iPod Photo 60G

Hello,
I updated to iTunes 5 (german) on a W2K SP4. The first sync with my iPod Photo was fine. Now I synced again and received error: It was not possible to syncronize your iPod. An unkown error occured (-50).
After that I updated my iPod to latest iPod Updater 2005-09-06, but still get the same error.
Anyhow it seems that the sync still work. At least for renaming playlists.
Can anybody help?
Thanks a lot,
Tim

Hi Tim,
you might want to restore your iPod completely using the Updater 2006-09-06. Even though it's a hassle, but I had some cover art mess on the iPod, but not in iTunes. So I restored with Updater and after that the syncing worked fine and ever since.
Hope that'll help!
Best

  • Multiple problems with itunes and ipod touch

I don't even know where to begin explaining all the problems I've had with itunes and my ipod touch, along with the troubleshooting that I've done to no avail.  Now, I'm totally frustrated.  So, here I am hoping that I can get some help from someone.  I spent almost $400 for my ipod touch and don't want to have to give up on it.
First, in case you need to know, I have the latest version of iTunes (10.2.2.14), an iPod Touch.  My Windows edition is Windows Vista with Service Pack 2.  My system has the following:
         Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard Company
         Model: m9150f
         Processor:  Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU   Q6600 @ 2.40GHz  2.40 GHz
         Memory (RAM):  3.00 GB
         System type:  32-bit Operating System
Next, in order to simplify what I have to say, I'll just briefly tell you what problems I've encountered, what I've done, and the results:
         1.     iPod not displayed in Computer when plugged into USB port
         2.     no device displayed in iTunes
         3.     unable to sync music and photos from my computer to iPod
         4.     have gone through and completed all troubleshooting two times to no avail
         5.     lost all settings and apps on my iPod and can't restore and/or retrieve them (my fault for erasing the info)
         6.     can't get iTunes to recognize(?) my iPod, after plugging it into the the USB port, in order to possibly restore it to working order
If I haven't provided enough info, please let me know.
I'll appreciate any help that you can give in order to resolve these issues.
    Thank you.
    Chris

did that include this support article ?
also, have you made sure Apple Mobile Device Service is installed and started ?

  • Problems with iTunes and iPod running under Windows Vista

I recently changed my computer. I now have an HP Pavilion running windows Vista (use to have XP). I have a video iPod -30GB. I downloaded iTunes onto the new equipment without incident, but that is the last thing that went smoothly.
I can no longer watch TV shows or movies from iTunes. The video plays like a slide show of stills (the audio is real-time however). Eventually I will get an error message from Windows and it closes the application.
I am also having issues with syncing my iPod and computer. I get a message requiring me to delete all of the content of the iPod and replace it with the contents of iTunes. I haven't done this -no trust and no backup
The delete message is from iTunes. I suspect it is a security feature to prevent downloading to more than one iPod, as iTunes doesn't seem to 'know' my iPod anymore. Syncing has also caused iTunes to close and my computer to reboot. Has anyone else had these problems?

you may want to take a look at the iPod 101 tutorials. Those might help.

  • Can I Use My Music Library With itunes and ipod if it's Only Saved to an External Hard Drive?

I have very little space left on my internal hard drives. I have the same music library saved on an external drive.  To get some space back, can I delete my music library from the internal drive C and just use the library on the external drive? Will it work in my itunes library and ipod? I want to download more music but I'm afraid to right now, because there is hardly any space left!

    Rick,
For everything you should know about Time Machine, see http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html.
If your photos were on your internal drive then, yes, they are likely to have been backed up by Time Machine.
However, if Time Machine starts running out of space, it will delete old back ups and thus your photos aren't really 'safe' just on a Time Machine back up. What you really need to do is either:
    Buy another external hard drive for storing your photos and other files, or;
Back up your photos to DVD's: there are a number of cataloging apps that you can use to catalog your files or, if you have named them something specific, use something like DiskTracker.
Either way, don't rely on your Time Machine back-up to store your photos.
Good luck - call back if you need more information,
    Clinton

  • Syncing problems with Itunes and Ipod Help?

Okay..I don't even know what's been happening with the newest Ios 5 update for apple products, but since the update, my ipod hasn't been able to synch with Itunes.
For example, I manually organize all my music and when I edit the album artist or the album artwork etc, it would show up in Itunes perfectly, but on the Itouch, nothing has been changed. This means that not only does it now show the album artwork that I set up in Itunes, but also all the artists as well. I've seen many people so far having this problem, but through all the solutions people have said, none have worked for me. Another problem is that it also mix and matches all the songs I have downloaded as well. Only the songs I purchase seem to be alright.
I have tried many things from restoring my Itouch and re-downloading music, manually re-synching my Itouch to see if the artists will show up, but to no avail, it hasn't worked.
Please help me. It's getting quite frustrating that nothing is synching since the newest ios 5.1.1 update. Thank you

The ipod touch will only sync to one computer at a time. If you sync to another it will indeed erase the content from the ipod first, then replace with content from the new computer.
Sign into your account on the computer, make sure it is authorized, then connect the ipod:

  • Help with itunes and ipod

I want to copy some songs from my ipod to my pc, but I don`t know how to do it.
My ipod isn't syncronized with my library and I don't know which other way to do it.
I just downloaded iTunes 7, but I think there area few bugs.
The PREFERENCE window is way to big and I can't save hte changes.
please, if anyone can help me!

"I want to copy some songs from my ipod to my pc, but I don`t know how to do it."
If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions

"I just downloaded iTunes 7, but I think there area few bugs. The PREFERENCE window is way to big and I can't save hte changes"
Click on the chevron > to the left of the iPod icon in the Source list. This will display the various icons for the iPod itself, Music, Movies, TV Shows and Playlists. Click on Music and you'll see the traditional song view with the information at the bottom.

  • Need help with Itunes and IPod Shuffle

I have the latest updates for both Itunes and the IPod Shuffle. I have Itunes on two different PCs, one for the wife and one for myself. I got a new Nano and gave my wife the Shuffle I had and she gave her shuffle to a friend. Everything has worked just fine in the past. When she plugged in my shuffle it asked if she wanted to sync to this PCs library and she said yes. Everything went fine except that no files will copy to the shuffle. It seems to take a VERY long time to sync as well. I tried dragging a song or a playlist but it just sits in sync mode for a long time and then when it's done there is no music on the shuffle. I don't understand the problem. When I attach the shuffle to my PC it asks if I want to sync to the library and everything works, files transfer, no problem. Putting back on her PC and going through the resync business again results in the same situation. Help!

Hello! no, you haven't stumped the pros. This is a user board. No pros here to stump, just volunteers.
Shuffles are only designed to sync with one PC. Connect it to your PC and restore it to factory settings. Eject it. When your wife connects it to her PC, it should get recognized.

  • Ipad2 restore fails with unknown error(1) with "iTunes and recovery" mode logo

Ipad2 64GB was sluggish and we tried to update with latest iOS update, security 2014-005 and latest iTunes on iMac 12.01 It enters a recoverymode with the iTunes logo and connector symbol displayed on the screen. Recognized that iPad is connected and proceeded to restore to factory condition. Goes through several stages, FW verification, restore etc but fails to proceed past a certain point and puts up an unknown error (1) occurred message. Disabled firewall and tried restore and it failed in the same spot. Tried using power + home button combos to enter DFW or restore mode. None of them worked. Took it to the Apple store and was told that it can't be debugged further because it did not yet boot up ( if it has the iTunes and connector symbol it must be in some state that it can be interacted with?) It's physically in a perfectly beautiful condition, nothing funky (jail breaking etc ) done to it, well taken care of.  The tech said that he can offer a replacement for 299$ after he tried to restore it twice without success. I am surprised that this tech thinks that it cannot be probed with some low level FW tools through the serial connector to determine the system state.  Any suggestions?

    Hey Ngtrishank,
Thanks for the question. Based on the information you have provided, I concur with the Apple Store’s conclusion. Error 1 is usually related to a hardware issue with the device. While there are a few steps you can attempt in the following resource, in most cases Error 1 signifies that the device needs to be serviced. For more information on troubleshooting Error 1, see this article:
Resolve iOS update and restore errors - Apple Support

  • Problems with iTunes and iPod Touch

I'm unable to properly install itunes. Here is the process I go through in trying to connect my brand new ipod touch:
Open itunes 7.5, and proceed through installation as normal. Problems occur on the following progress bar:
    updating component registration
    copying new files
    status:
    (pauses for about 30s)
    status: rolling back action:
(status bar backtracks to 0% and then installation continues)
I select to open iTunes after the installation completes.
I then plug in the ipod touch and get the error message:
"This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install iTunes again."
Also, a window pops up saying there is a camera connected, and asks if I want to use microsoft office word, microsoft scanner and camera wizard, or photoshop to open "Apple iPod"
I've followed all troubleshooting steps provided on the apple website and am still having the issue. Any thoughts or recommendations? I have a very clean system with hardly any running processes. (my task bar has 3 icons total: trillian, volume control, and itunes)

  • External Hard Drive problems with iTunes and iPod

I recently purchased a 320 gig external hard drive for my computer, hoping in part to load my iTunes library onto it. Obviously I'd have much more room on disc than my actual iPod, so I was going to manually manage my music (an option I didn't have selected on my iPod before).
I followed all the online help topics which have all been helpful so far. I organized my music files, changed my directory, consolidated my library, and now everything is on the external hard drive and is working just fine.
The problem comes when I connect my iPod. iTunes barely even seems to recognize my iPod all of a sudden, saying that it has been corrupted and needs to be restored. When I try restoring it, nothing happens, and I can't seem to do a thing about it through iTunes. Of course, there's actually nothing wrong with the iPod at all, since it still works fine and plays music exactly the same as before. It simply won't update or do anything at all when hooked up to my computer.
I know this has something to do with the new hard drive, since everything was just fine a few hours ago, I just can't figure out why I can't get my iPod to sync all of a sudden. Like I said, my iPod is working fine otherwise, iTunes is playing music through the external hard drive without any issues, and I haven't touched any files other than music files (I haven't even deleted them off my original hard drive yet, so all the original fines remain unchanged, even though I switched the directory).
To the best of my knowledge, all my software is up to date, and the iPod is a 30 gig photo. Any ideas?
    pc   Windows XP

Yeah, I gave the new drive the letter Z, so there shouldn't have been any conflicts there. I also tried your other suggestion, and while the computer recognized my external hard drive, it didn't seem to make any difference once I plugged in the iPod again.
I've been wrestling with this for days now. I've tried changing the drive letters for both the external hard drive and my iPod several times (but no matter what, the iPod always seems to take F when it's unplugged and then plugged back in). I've tried restoring the iPod on multiple occasions. I've tried reinstalling all my USB drivers. I've consolidated my music library on several occasions (I now have two identical libraries on my external hard drive), yet annoyingly, iTunes seems to keep switching file paths away from the external hard drive and back to their original locations on the C drive. I'm trying to free up internal hard drive space, not house 30 gigs of media on it. That's what this new external hard drive is for.
Somehow, I was able to get them both to be recognized at the same time, but it never lasts long. I'll start iTunes with the external hard drive disconnected, plug in my iPod, wait for the iPod screen to come up in iTunes, then plug my external hard drive back in. Then, I can miraculously start to transfer music back onto my iPod, but iTunes doesn't seem to want this to happen for some reason, and will usually cut off the transfer. So far I've managed to put three whole songs on my iPod.
So now I'm trying to do two things. One, the same as before, get my computer and iTunes to recognize both my iPod and my external hard dive at the same time. And two, get iTunes to stop changing the file paths back to the C drive. These files are already on my external hard drive and don't need to change.
(As a side note, I should comment on how helpful people are on this discussion board. The Apple representitives I called on several occasions seemed totally unwilling to help, acting more like pushy salesmen than anything, while people here seem to be much more friendly and knowledgeable. Just thought it needed to be said.)

well i have my ipod nano i believe and i tried upgrading to the new itunes. when i did i get an error saying the ipod communications program is not working. when i try to plug my ipod in itunes does not recognize it at all. and i cannot get my music then from itunes to my ipod. i have tried re-installing it several times but to no avail. what can be done about this because i am getting extremely annoyed.

Have a look at whichever one of these articles is most appropriate first: "iPod appears in Windows Explorer but does not appear in iTunes" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716

  • Problems with itunes and ipod

If anyone can help me with this problem i would really appreciate it
The problem started about a week ago when i had just finished downloading some music off of morpheus. My computer displayed a message saying that I didn't have anymore space on my ipod, i knew this was incorrect because my ipod holds 500 songs and at the time i only had about 270 songs. Itunes displayed another message saying that it would select various songs to a new created playlist. The problem with this is it only put 70 songs back on the ipod. So I deleted it. The next day i tried putting more songs back on it, and i got another message saying that itunes was corrupt. Strangely, itunes wiped ALL my songs off my ipod. I have virus protection so i ran the mcafee virus scan, and no files were infected. Now Everytime I hook up my ipod to my notebook i get a message saying " Ipod cannot be updated because all the selected playlists for updating no longer exist." I have tried resetting my ipod, updating itunes, creating new playlists, and nothing just seems to work.
If anyone knows how to remedy this problem please let me know.
    Thanks.

" Ipod cannot be updated because all the selected playlists for updating no longer exist."<<</div>
It sounds like you have the ipod set to automatically update selected songs and playlists only. Try placing it into a different updating configuration.

  • New Computer = New Problems with iTunes and iPod Classic

I recently got a new computer. I was successfully able to transfer the iTunes music files from the old machine to the new. However, I had to reload my iPod from scratch. My problems are:
-- songs from playslists that aren't checked to be loaded are loading into my iPod (my son's music).
-- I'm getting multiple messages to authorize the computer for it to load purchased music (I have authorized it in the past). I get an error message when I try to authorize the computer (-44084).
--If I uncheck a play list or song, will it be removed from my iPod next time I sync? If not, how do I "erase" songs from my iPod that I dont' want anymore?

I'm getting multiple messages to authorize the computer for it to load purchased music (I have authorized it in the past). I get an error message when I try to authorize the computer (-44084).
With that one, I'd try the following document:
[iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play iTunes Store purchases|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389]
(Probably best to start with the user account control section with a 44084.)
