Symantec antivirus & LabVIEW 7.1 exe's

Anyone know of any conflicts with LV 7.1 exe's & Symantec AntiVirus Corporate 10.1.4.4000 on Win2k (and possibly XP)?
Soon after we installed the antivirus update, LV7.1. executables began
locking up the system when they tried to access a file.  Some of
the system is still responsive (you can view the system processes, for
example), but when you give a command nothing happens (restart, for
instance, doesn't work).  The processor monitor shows 99% idle...
almost like both the AV and LV are waiting for something.  The
computer must be hard booted to restore it.
While I'll be working on downgrading the antivirus, any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe Z.

Thanks Ben, I wish you could too!  Given my druthers, I'd be working on a tree class structure in 8.20... maybe someday
Tunde, check the attachments.  No relative file pathing functions, or really much of anything else.
A quick test shows that running from the
Start>>Run>>H:\bugcheck71.exe (for instance) exhibits the
same behavior as any other method.  Once, it even locked up before
rendering the front panel.
It may very well be my (relatively standard) Windows network.  It has many of the hallmarks of a deadlock timing issue.
To reproduce the behavior in the executable, you may have to rebuild it to suit your particular network mappings.
1.  Open the bugcheck71.vi file.
2.  Set the file control path to a mapped network location.  (It's currently set to select a directory.)
3.  Set the file control path to default to that location, save, and exit the vi.
4.  Build the VI into an executable.
5.  Copy the vi to a mapped drive location.
6.  (The hard part) Run the vi on a machine with the Symantec 10.1.4.4000 antivirus client, scan engine 61.2.1.10.
7.  Click the browse button.
As I've said, I don't see it on every machine, just most of them.
Symantec shows that earlier antivirus clients could cause tcp/ip issues
through the antivirus mail client snap in, which our IS is likely to have
included.  Does the exe make any tcp/ip connections that the dev
environment does not, or in a different way?

  • Symantec antivirus eats up too much memory?

So I am gonna install a Labview program thats logs data and send the data by email, on a ship using satelite internet. If the sat internet fails, the emails will be store in the 2G memory of the PC.
So the customer IT guy ask will Symantec antivirus (which requires 2G memory according to him) eats up Labview memory, and cause Labview program to crash a few weeks later?
Have you guys have any bad experience with Symantec antivirus crashing Labview? Or Symantec's firewall blocking Labview email transmission and stuff like that?
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You are confusing RAM with hard disk space. You would not store emails in the 2GB of "memory" of the PC. You would store the emails on the hard drive. It makes no sense to store in them in RAM, as that's temporary storage, and you'd lose it if the computer gets turned off or it reboots.
As for the Symantec issue, Symantec has its share of problems, just like every other atrocity that we otherwise affectionately know as anti-virus programs.  Symantec anti-virus, however, does not require 2GB of memory. Your IT guy, I suspect, probably despises Symantec products. As far as how much memory it actually requires, that completely depends on the version that you're looking at (including whether it's a "home" version, or a "business" version, or whether it's the standalone antivirus program, or whether it's the one that's included in the full-blown security suite).

  • Symantec antivirus Best practice for oracle database on windows server 2003

    Hi all,
I have an oracle database server on windows server 2003 platform of version 10.2.0.4. what would be best practice of running symantec antivirus on that server as well as database file exclusions from scanning them.
My server had rebooted unexpectedly for many times. in event log i have id as 6008. what may be cause of it..?

Normally, you don't run a virus scanner on a database server because your database server isn't vulnerable to viruses. It's behind firewalls, people aren't reading mail on it, people aren't plugging thumb drives into it, etc. If you do decide that you need to run a virus scanner on a database server, at least exclude the Oracle data files from the scan. Oracle gets very unhappy if someone else tries to open its data files (or, worse, if someone opens a data file before it gets the chance to acquire exclusive access).

  • Symantec Antivirus Best Practice for Hyper-v 2012 R2 Cluster

    Hi Team ,
    I am Working with Hyper-v 2012 R2 Cluster with 5 Node . All are working fine .
Now i am Planning to install Antivirus Symantec in to each node. Please let me know if there is any Best practice guide to install Symantec Antivirus for Hyper-v 2012 R2 Cluster node.
I am using full version of Windows 2012 R2 with hyper-v.
    Thanks

I would also look strongly at no antivirus as well, but if you do, here are the recommended exclusions and possible issues with Anti-Virus to look out for.
    Look for the Hyper-V section:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/953.microsoft-anti-virus-exclusion-list.aspx
Big things to stay away from from a VM level too:
    1. Do not have a set time when all VMs will kick off a scheduled full disk scan.  This can create an I/O storm on your hosts as well as saturate the CPUs as well.   Look for products or settings that allow for randomization of full disk scans on
the VMs or do not do full disk scans and only keep the real time scanners active on the VMs for incoming writes.
    2.  Watch for Antivirus products that update all the VMs at the same time.  Again, sometimes you can randomize or exclude a scheduled full disk scan, but sometimes an automated update that kicks off say at 12am can then automatically kick off a
mini scan.   This can also create disk I/O and CPU storms.
The problem that still exists with many Antivirus products today is that they try to scan as fast as they can and then get out of the way.  This works ok for endpoint desktops or laptops, but when you have 50 or more VMs on a host all ramping up trying
to get done as quick as they can, then this can cause some issues.

  • Uninstall Symantec Antivirus

I'm having trouble uninstalling my Symantec antivirus products. I first installed them on Mac OSX 10.3, and I'm running Version 1.0 (082). We upgraded our OS to 10.5 a while ago and trasfered everything currently installed. But since the antivirus is so out of date, it doesn't work correctly and is useless. Every time the computer starts we get popup windows giving us errors from the software.
I've already tried removing the application by moving the files from the Applications folder into the trash, but it did nothing. I tried googling this, but nothing useful came up. I'm thinking I'll have to use a terminal command to remove everything, but don't know what to do.
    Please help!

IIRC, it has an uninstaller. If not, try http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/webview.jsp?wv_type=publicweb&docurl=20080427024142EN

  • Symantec Antivirus with Oracle 10g

    Hi,
I have successfully installed Oracle 10g personal database and developer suite in windows xp with 512 MB RAM and 2.66 Ghz processor.
The problem is that when I start my PC, it takes 2 min. to boot completely and the Symantec antivirus can not be enabled for a longer time (more than 10 min.)
Please tell me about the solution or any configuration settings.
    Thanks & regards

    Thanks Justin Thats right ...
    Problem elaboration is as follows
We currently have an application which requires oracle 10g(10.2.0.3) client to connect to database from user desktops. As
part of new application development the oracle 11g clients need to be installed on all the user deskotps.
The complete application software along with oracle client 11g has to be roled out on these desktop as part of
implementaion of new application besides the existing application(The application software is packaged along with oracle
    10g client).
We would like to understand if there is any software provided by oracle using which we can switch between different oracle
versions while accessing the respective applications simultaneously. Also are there any known bugs/issues in running
oracle 10g client and oracle 11g client together on the same user desktops with different oracle homes?

  • Symantec Antivirus constantly detecting .CLASS files as risks

    Good Afternoon,
Lately Symantec Antivirus has been detecting lots and lots of .CLASS files as risks/viruses on our client machines. Most of the risks are detected as Trojan Horse. When I check the Risk History log on the Symantec Antivirus server, for the client, it shows that the files are being detected
    In Vista - C:\Users\user's profile folder\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\ - various folders
    In XP - C:\Documents and Settings\user's profile folder\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0 - various folders
The 6.0 folder contains folders numbered 0-63 as well as folders named host, muffin, and tmp. Usually I have the user go into the Java Control Panel and click the Settings button and then click the Delete Files button, to include the Applications and Applets and Trace and Log Files. Then I run a full Symantec scan on the client machine and it usually comes back clean.
In the Temporary Files Settings screen in the Java Control Panel, there is a checkbox checked to "Keep temporary files on my computer." If uncheck this option, will that affect anything? I am thinking that if this option is unchecked then maybe I Symantec won't keep finding these .class files on my client machines.
We used to just have the Java JRE on our client machines, but recently we have had problems with our software distribution packages throwing up errors about a corrupt .cab file during installation so we started putting the full JDK version on the machines. I am not sure if it is conicidence or not, but I am thinking that Symantec didn't start detecting all of these .class files until we started putting the JDK on the client systems.
I started to post this message on a Symantec forum, but thought it might be better suited for a Java forum instead, since the files that are being detected as risks/virus by Symantec are .class Java files.
If anyone has any info or suggestions on this for me it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Ms. Lawrin Walker

  • Remove old symantec antivirus from lion

Help. I was running an old version of Symantec Antivirus (10.2.3) and upgraded to Mountain Lion. Now Symantec Antivirus will not run and will not uninstall, with the error message that I get when I try to uninstall being that PowerPC progs are no longer supported. I've already installed a newer antivirus prob, but now I need help to clean up Symantec.

Follow the instructions here > Uninstalling Norton AntiVirus | Macworld
Norton software is very invasive and difficult to uninstall all the associated files. If you still have probllems after following the instructions from the link above, reformat the drive using OS X Lion: About Lion Recovery
When you get a chance, you may want to read the results of an Apple Support Community search for Norton / Symantec > Community Search: Apple Support Communities
If you really want to install a/v software on your Mac, download ClamXav from the App Store. It's free.
As noted here ClamXav is Mountain Lion compatible.

  • How to make Time Capsule work with Symantec Antivirus

I have a MacBook that backs up well with my Time Capsule as long as I disable Symantec Antivirus (version 10.1.1). There are plenty of postings that suggest to just turn of the antivirus and leave things as such, but I am wondering if there is an actual way to have both the Antivirus running ("enabled") and have the MacBook successfully backup to the Time Capsule. When the Antivirus is enabled, the Time Machine is not able to create the backup directory (that's the error message I get).

Agreeing with Jolly Giant that you don't need anti-virus software to protect your Mac.
You do, of course, need the usual array of security stuff if you're running Windoze, but only on the Windoze side. TM won't back-up a Boot Camp partition, and if you're running via Parallels, vmWare, or the like, you should exclude the virutal machine from TM anyway, and back it up separately via a Windoze app.
If you're worried about passing Windoze viruses between your PC friends, get the (free) ClamXav app (via Google). It's the least intrusive.

  • Symantec Antivirus Error

Forgive me is this is the wrong place to post this question, but I have a question about Norton. I have an intel imac (10.4.9) which had Norton Anitvirus on it. I thought I took it off by uninstalling, but everytime I start my mac up I get a message that says "Symantec AntiVirus Auto-Protect could not load the scan engine. Please run LiveUpdate to get the latest version. (Code: 6)
I don't want Norton on my machine...I just want it to start up without this message.
Thanks in advance for any advice...
      Mac OS X (10.4.9)

thanks..I've tried that link and I can download the RemoveSymantecMacFiles fine and I follow the directions by double clicking on the folder and all it does is open the Terminal Application. Apparently I should have a place to type in the command to run the script (type 1 the directions say) but there is no place to type anything?
Not knowing anything about Terminal..I looked around the menu's but came up with nothing.
It says in the directions I must be a Admin or Root user...which I am...

  • Symantec AntiVirus LiveUpdate hangs my mac mini intel

Hello. I have an intel mac mini running mac osx 10.4.6 I
installed norton antivirus corporate edition (site-licensed
at my university) and all worked well.
That is, it did until I installed the firmware update on
the mini. Since then, when I try to run live update, the
system hangs, and all I can do is move the cursor around
the screen with the mouse. Can't click on anything, can't
break out with the keyboard, nothing. Need to reboot.
I can't find any information on this on the symantec site.
crDo you guys know anything about it?
Based on another thread I read here, I looked at crontab
(crontab -l), and it said "no crontab".
    Thanks very much
Mac Mini duo intel   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I don't know what is causing your issues, but in the meantime you can get the latest virus definitions from sites such as MacUpdate (just type "norton" in the search field).
FYI definitions for Norton Antivirus X 9 will also work with Norton AV X 10.
BTW there have been two firmware updates for Intel-based Mac minis (Firmware Update 1.0.1 and SMC Firmware Update). Which one did you install before the issue came up ?

  • How to convert labview program to .exe file?

Is it possible to convert VI file into .exe file? How to go about doing it?

    hi
you simply need to use the application builder - included in LabVIEW professional version or you buy this tool separately.
Remark: On target machine the Run time engine (for free) has to be installed.

  • Unable to install Symantec Antivirus on Windows XP Partition.

My son just bought a macbook for college. I installed XP through Boot Camp. He gets a free Norton Antivirus download from school. When I downloaded it and attempted to install it through Windows, I got a message that it could not be installed on the "architecture."

Sorry, for some reason I am having a really hard time getting posts to work today. I had actually posted another answer before the one you just responded to (which was a follow up to the 1st post). What that first post said was that the Windows partition should be formatted as NTFS. OS X can only read NTFS volumes, it cannot write to them. So unless you install a program to allow OS X to write to NTFS
(such a program does exist) it's not possible to drag anything from the Mac partition to the Windows partition - even Windows .exe files. (NTFS volumes can neither read nor write to OS X, again, without installing a program to allow this). If you did choose to format the Windows partition as FAT 32, you could drag something from the mac side to the windows volume. But you should use NTFS for Windows rather than FAT32 anyway, it is the preferred way to partition a Windows installation. If you do I don't see any way you can cross contaminate except for the method I mentioned in my other post.
Is anyone else having trouble accessing or posting to the forums today?

These are all settable from VI Properties. Go there and select 'Window Run-Time Position' and 'Window Appearance>Customize'.
