Symbain Anna N8 is slower w/ the power saving mode...

For some reason, the N8 seems a bit slower with the powersaving mode disabled
For example, it takes a bit more extra time to open an app with the rotating dial at the center, whereas if I were to open the same app with the powersaving mode turned on, the same app would open right away without any delays.
I am mostly okay with leaving the phone on the power saving mode, except that I use the "always on clock" function on my N8. And there is no way to enable the always on clock without turning off the battery saving mode..
And of course it goes without saying, but I have formatted my device multiple times and with the same result. There is currently 40gb of free space on my N8 w/ the micro sd slot filled, so it is not like the phone has storage issue either.
All the latest upgrade to the phone have been installed (Symbian Belle is not avaiable in Canada, where I live in)
My mother also has a Nokia N8 and she also has this issue, although she prefers the powersaving mode anyways.
Any help with this issue? I just want to have a "always on clock" while keeping my phone in the battery saving mode
or somehow make the the N8  w/ the power saving mode disabled, as fast as the same phone w/ the powersaving mode enabled".
I do not care about battery life, since I can already get enough battery w/ the powersaving mode disabled.

Nokia Situations, which you can get at http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/nokia-situations will give you the functionality you desire. I'v attached a screenshot showing that both Power saving and Vibratating alert can be selected together.
The idea of the app is to automatically switch profiles according to preselected conditions, so if you can predict when you need your phone to be in power saving mode (eg during work hours) you can set it up accordingly, but if not you can also select the profile in the normal way from the first homescreen.

  • Nokia N8: Possible Power Saving Mode Bug

    Dear All,
For the past week, I've change the way I use my Nokia N8. I decided to set it up in power saving mode during the evening. There is no point for it to be on 3.5G if nobody is using it. Unfortunately, I seem to have hit a problem. At the moment, my N8 is using a pay as you go sim card from O2 and this card is in the phone 24/7.
When I activate power saving mode, the phone re-registers with the network and the maximum speed it will have will be EDGE. In the morning, when I take my phone I disable power saving mode and the phone re-registers again with the network.
Having said that, on multiple ocassions, my phone showed some worrying symptoms. For example, a few das ago, when I disabled power saving mode, the phone did not show the 3.5G icon and I could not make any phone calls. The coverage was up and down. You might say that, it did not show 3.5G because you had no 3.5G you idiot. That is not true, where I live, there is 3.5G everywhere.
I was shocked that I could not make any phone calls. After a few reboots and taking SIM card out, I managed to get the phone in working order.
Today, the same thing happened. I managed to fix it just a few moments ago. It seems that the power saving mode option has an implementation problem or O2 does not like the way the N8 registers to the network when you enable and disable the said feature.  Has anyone encountered this???

@m80116, this may well be a solution, but could be problematic if in a weak reception area where only Edge is available ? You could lose data connection completely ! I tend to use Dual mode, and generally don't have an issue, but certainly for anyone living and working in a very strong 3 or 3.5G area it may work very well, wish I had the luxury of being able to use 3G Only

  • Power saving mode / and broadband disconnecting pe...

I have recently started using the power saving mode and noticed that our BB speed has gone down to 2.4 from 2.9.  While I know this is not a big reduction we had a lot of problems earlier in the year with V04 messages cos our speed dropped to around 2 and it took a lot of engineers visits to get it back up to 2.9.  Also I noticed that our HH keeps disconnecting (at the moment it says it's been connected for 2 days) although this has been happening since we signed up to BT and not since using the power save mode..
Do you think it is the power saving mode or the fact that the HH keeps disconnecting periodically that is resulting in our speed reducing?  I would really appreciate your help as I desperately want to avoid getting the dreaded V04 error messages!
    Thanks
    Debbie

Hi the variations in your speed are being caused by the restarts of your hub nothing toowith power saving mode you need to find the causes of thedisconections

  • Power Saving Mode

Within the power saving mode, what exactly does the option "Put hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" do? if I want to keep my computer on because I like to listen to music stations while falling to sleep but I don't change it, should I turn that off or on? If it's on, will it shut the computer and the music off if I don't use touch my computer after a while?
    Thanks

The disks spin when you are accessing data. The system keeps the HDD on to make sure that data is available when you need it -- no ramp up delay.
Turning it off when possible saves power and reduces heat. Streaming audio should not be affected since it does not require storage unless you do not have sufficient RAM, in which case, the system needs to swap to disk.

  • N8 - Power Saving Mode

    Hi,
I got a bit problem here. My N8 will automatically activate the POWER SAVING MODE once the phone battery goes low. I've set the power saver mode query to "ON" so that the phone will ask wether to activate the power saving mode or not. When I choose "NO" the phone will automatically turn the power saving mode in the background without displaying an icon (the battery icon will appears as a "moon"). The big clock screen saver is set to NONE, the theme effects switch to "OFF" and the light time out will change from 30 seconds (default) to only 5 seconds.
    Any idea or help? ThanX!

Deactivate the Power Saver Mode via the power key is not working as well. The phone shows that the POWER SAVING MODE DEACTIVATED but the settings still don't change to normal. So far, this was the biggest problem with my N8. I really hope that the upcoming firmware of the N8 will address this issue.

  • Using both power saving mode and offline mode caus...

So I am having a very strange problem. I have been using the Situations App (formerly Nokia Situations) to automatically put my phone into offline mode, and power saving mode over night. 9pm to 6:30am.
Recently the phone as started refusing to leave the offline mode in the morning. Even if I try to change the profile manually it says "Unable to change profile". The only way I can get out of offline mode is to reboot.
I uninstalled Situations, and manually put the phone into offline mode and power saving mode. By the morning I had the same issue, stuck in offline mode until reboot. So it's not the App causing the problem. I've tried a soft reset, same problem still.
I also noticed that over-night (from fully charged before 9pm) to 6:30am I used about 70% of my charge. (A combination of power saving mode and offline mode is killing my battery!)
I would have to go to work and immediately put my phone on charge! I.e.. 12 hours of offline + power save has drained my battery almost completely.
Last night I decided to use the Situations App to put the phone into offline mode, BUT NOT activate power save mode.
This morning the phone had virtually full charge and it had no problem returning to online mode. So it's ONLY if I use BOTH power-save and offline. (Tonight I will try using power-saving mode and NOT offline mode to see if it's only the power-saving mode causing the issue!)
If I manually enter offline+power-save mode, and then try to return to on-line/non-power-save mode, relatively quickly, i.e.. Not over-night, everything is fine. It's only over night the problems start!
    Any help?
    Rob
PS. I also have the problem where using HSPA+ causes my phone to drop from the network and stop being able to receive/make phone calls. But disabling HSPA+ works around this for now, I think this problem is unrelated however.

I have a similar problem. My 808 PureView loses 70% of its charge overnight if I leave it in normal profile without power-saving. To deal with this issue, I started using the situations app to put the phone in power saving mode overnight. That solved the problem (although I never put my phone to offline mode). This is a weird problem because throughout the day my phone doesn't use 70% of charge, but it does overnight while doing nothing!
I have also experienced the second problem, losing cellular and internet connection, on my 808. I have started a thread to deal with this issue.

I believe it is a firmware bug that causes this problem.

  • How do you turn off power saving mode on a Officejet 6000

I have 5 Officejet 6000 printer contected by using the ethernet port. They print fine when not in power saving mode. When they go into power saving mode and a print job is sent to them, they do not print. You have to power off and on the printer for the job to print. I need to turn off the power saving mode on these printers. Computers sending print jobs are XP and Window 7.

I am not aware of a way to turn that feature off completely since it does not have a front panel.
However, I suspect largely that the issue is with DHCP IP (automatic) settings.  Printers in general, with some routers, have issues with DHCP and standby where they no longer communicate using DHCP information.
I recommend setting static IP addresses for any printer on a network as it prevents most network issues with printers from occuring.
Print a network configuration page by holding the network button for 3 seconds and then releasing it.  A printout should be printed with the printers IP address.
Once that is done, enter that IP address into the browser on a computer as if you were going to a site.  Once that is entered, go to that site and the printer status page should be loaded.
There should be a Network option at the top.  Select that option.
On this page, somewhere on the left, there should be an IPv4 option in a wired section.  Select this and it will give the option for automatic or manual IP setup.
Select Manual IP setup.  Enter The IP address and subnet mask from the printout.  You can enter the gateway and the DNS servers, but they aren't really used since this printer does not have any web functions.
Click apply and you should get a success message.
At this point, the printer should have a static IP address and the issue of it not responding after entering standby should no longer be present.
PrintDoc's post has similar steps for a wireless version of the same printer.  The only step that would really be different is choosing Wired instead of Wireless on the setup page.

  • N85: 'Unable to Deactivate Power Saving Mode'

    Hi,
My N85 currently shows power saving mode (the battery icon has a moon symbol overlaid), and when I plug in any charger, i get the message 'Charging' followed by a message 'Unable to Deactivate Power Saving Mode'.
The same message appears if I press the power button and select 'Deactivate power saving'. The message remains even though the battery is 100% charged.
The phone appears to be working normally with full 3G connection, Wireless, Bluetooth etc all able to be controlled manually or via the profile.
    So...
Did I do something to force the phone to stay in power saving mode? How do I remove this message? What effect does Power Saving mode have?
    Thanks for any clues!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

deep power saving mode is basically the mode when you battery runs low in order to preserve power, the phone shuts down all possible applications, reduces power to the screen in power saving mode you can still use the basic functions, but it should only go into the power saving mode when the battery is actually near empty its an awesome feature, but must be a bug in this case since you state that the battery is full, glad you found a solution

  • Unable to restore screen when laptop goes into power saving mode

Toshiba Satellite M45 running MS Windows XP, When laptop goes into powersaving mode and screen goes black, if i do not move the mouse in a nanosecond I am unable to restore the screen. Try my ususal fix of pressing the now amber mechanical start button, but I only hear the computer start to whir, but the black screen continues.  I have to do a hard close and consequently loose all unsaved data. Then do a mechanical start and return to the desk top with a message that the computer programs where not closed properly.
I have been told I need to change the power saving mode options. Is this correct? How do I do this?  Thanks,  Blooming

I tired to do a system restore for two different dates and got a message that MS was unable to restore to that/those dates. - no explanation.
Linda, sometimes the restore points get corrupted. The fix is to turn System Restore off and then on again. Unfortunately, that removes all the previous restore points.

  • Power saving mode on then96 is driving me crazy

please can any help me i've had my n96 for 4 months and it seems to be playing up i can not change the brightness and the light time out as i go to change it it keeps saing that the power saving mode is enable and its driving me grazy

Every once in a while, my n96 would go into power saver mode when it wasn't supposed to and a screen would even come on and say " Power saving mode can not be disconnected ".  Try charging the phone fully, and before removing the charger go into menu and try to set the light time out and brightness. If that fails, do a soft reset first, and if that doesn't work, do a hard reset. Make sure you back up all your contacts and photos. I had a couple of annoying problems with mine that wouldn't go away and I took this dudes advice on this forum to do the resets and now my phone is like brand new again. cheers, Rick     *#7780# (restore) and *#7370#(reformat)

  • When will the Verizon HTC One (M8) finally get the Extreme Power Saving Mode software update?

Other carriers (AT&T, Sprint) already have it, but Verizon is taking forever apparently.
When will Verizon customers be able to download and use this new mode?
    Thanks!

I recently bought an HTC One m8 from Verizon, and like many other customers the Extreme Power-saving Feature was one of my keys factors to deciding to buy. I was very disappointed to learn after the fact that Verizon had not included, and has no intention to include the feature in the future. (Mentioned in other threads in the forum). I've read the argument made that Verizon never advertised the feature and never said it would be included with their version of the phone, but they also never went out of the way to warn perspective buyers that the feature, which is part of the m8 phone on other carriers and marketed by HTC as a part of their phone wouldn't be included. When people are researching phones before they decide what to get they read what features the manufacturer(s) have designed and implemented in those phones, not search to find all the things the carrier may have stripped from the phone.
It's impractical and offensive to tell a customer that its his/her responsibility every time they buy a phone from them to dig deep into website forums and look for what they decided to remove from it that the manufacturer had built, and advertised to be in their phone. This is the type of thing that is bad PR for Verizon, and something that will make customers go to other carriers. I don't want to offend some of the nice Verizon employees who want to  help their customers and simply don't have the power to correct the issue themselves, but its in Verizon's best interest to either fix their network to work with this feature, or find/hire someone else who will. Doing it soon before the issue escalates and news of Verizon's statement to do nothing to correct the issue for their HTC One m8 customers spreads like wildfire and burns them.
I hope someone at Verizon doesn't let the rest of the company go on ignoring the issue and steps up to find a  way to enable Extreme Power Saving Mode on the Verizon Network. Right now the impression many people have is something along the lines of: now that you've bought a phone from us, and signed up for a contract with us we don't care what you want and think.
In the meantime it would be a good idea to enable the option in the phone with a popup message when enabled that reads something along the lines of: Verizon has concluded that in some cases Extreme Power Saving Mode can cause network issues. If you experience network issues please disable extreme power saving mode and return to one of the  other power modes. Verizon will continue to research the issue, and will institute a fix if/when a solution is found.

  • Printer gets frozen in the power saver mode

I leave my printer on all the tiime.  When I go to print, if it has gone into the Power Saver Mode it will not get out of it.  It is frozen.  So far the only thing I can do is unplug the printer in the back.  Can I just turn it off with the power button each time I am finished printing?  It's a real pain to get to the back to unplug it.

You need to keep the power saver of if you want it to vibrate on silent. The power save mode doesnt save alot of battery. It only makes the screen brightness lowest and turns screen of faster. Also the 3G will be change to Gsr since it doesnt consume battery so much. Thats basicly what i does

  • My Power Mac G5 goes into the power sving mode on the start up and screen  stays blank. Monitor is OK. Help.....

I Hv a Power Mac G5. s soon as I power it on, the monitor (Lacie) screen flashes a message saying It has gone into Power Saving mode and the screen stays blank.
Once it happened before and was told to keep Command, option, P & R kes pressed while it is starting up and to keep it pressed untill it restarts. Tried that, but it does not work.
    How do I correct it?
    Please help.....
I am located in India. and trying to exhaust all available options before I contact Apple Support......

It sounds like your video card is not coming up, as the monitor is indicating that it probably has no active video coming from the computer.
    Two things to try:
First, does video come up in safe boot (hold the shift key down while powering up)?
Second, how old is the PRAM backup battery?  While not a universal cause of video not coming up, we have seen reports of a weak PRAM backup battery being the cause of that failure.  If the battery is more than a couple of years old, a replacement is a good and relatively inexpensive initial troubleshooting step.  (My own theory is that at boot, the PRAM yields garbage data to the system which, in some cases, crashes a video driver or does other mischief.)
If the computer is otherwise coming up OK, that is to say, you power it up and it hasn't clicked itself off and after a few minutes the fans haven't ramped into high gear, which indicates that the system is actually up and running even without video output, then it is relatively likeley that the video card has failed and must be replaced.
One final thing to try would be a PMU or SMU reset (depending on where your G5 is in the progression of the model).  Information on PMU is here and information on SMU is here.

  • Mirroring LG Monitor stuck in Analog Power Saving Mode

I have a macbook from 2006, and just attained an LG L1900J LCD monitor. When I connect the monitor to my macbook using a DVI to VGA Cable attached to a Mac mini DVI to VGA adapter I get no picture on the monitor and the message "Analog Power Saving Mode" appears before the monitor goes black and then switches into sleep mode.
I have used the Switch application to try and fix the issue, and I have also adjusted the resolution many times as it appears my Macbook recognizes the monitor but an image just won't appear on its screen. I just ordered a Male to Male DVI cable and mini DVI to DVI adapter to see if a digital connection would work. Does anyone know if this will work or of another solution to my problem? Thanks.

So I ordered a Mini DVI-DVI Dynex adapter and Male to Male DVI Cable off ebay for very cheap, and to my surprise, this set-up seemed to shake the monitor out of "Analog Power Saving Mode" into "Digital" since its a digital set-up and now I have a fully functioning, mirroring monitor. So I would suggest switching to DVI to correct your issue.
