SYMBIAN 3 ANNA IN N8

Anybody knows when is Symbian 3 ANNA available for N8 dowload?
Cheers!

Following previous Symbian 3 release policy, it makes sense to restrict the beta testing of the new Anna release to a few phones. Once the user community have identified all the bugs in Anna (like they did in the first Symbian 3 release) then Nokia can fix the bugs and release a more solid version for all Symbian phones.
I cannot see why the OS cannot be the same for all phones. Admittedly different phones have different hardware, but a sensible approach would be for the OS to probe the hardware and then omit or remove code on the fly - e.g. if no NFC is present, then omit this code. I am sure this should be possible, but probably not with Symbian as it is.  This way all phones would get one self-configurable OS, with the basic release staying the same for all.
In fact this does happen up to a point, with DAB radio - hardware that needs to be plugged in.  If you don't have a DAB radio you don't download the app. If you do download the app and start it without plugging in the DAB radio, it detects this and puts up appropriate messages.  I am suggesting a similar app-ised OS structure, where apps are only present if the associated hardware is detected, code for all hardware possible being present in the base firmware.

Swype for Symbian ^3, Anna, Belle, Belle Refresh is EXPIRED. What should I do?
Swype is expired irrespective of the firmware on your device, please help.
Symbian connected me to the world, to my dreams.. Thank-you Nokia

Symbian^3 phones are not compatible with SymRDP software.
You may see that these phones are NOT included in Compatible Devices List for SymRDP software.
SymRDP will close automatically on most non-compatible phones.
There is no VNC nor  TeamViewer remote access for Symbian^3.
You may check if anyone is interesting in developing software for Symbian^3. You may check www.rdmplus.com as they used to develop some Java based Remote Access clients for Symbian.
Most likely, the bottom line is – if you need Remote Desktop access, then you should not use Symbian^3 phones and use some real smartphones instead as all of them have support for RDP and VPN access and many have support for access via SMB protocol as well (file sharing).

  • Symbian 3 Anna update RTSP playback problem

    Hi,
for some reason I can no longer view rtsp feeds using my Nokia N8 mobile phone. I'm not sure if the latest anna update has to do with this.
I also tried my friends C7 but same problem, the videoplayer just displays the loading animation and no rtsp streaming is played.
Can someone on this forum try the mobile youtube videos with an anna device and see if you can get the video to playback. Go here and click on any video to see if the video is played back or not:

  • X7-00.1 running Symbian Anna: does it support WAP ...

    Hi there,
I am a Rogers customer who currently upgraded from a Nokia 5800XM to a Nokia X7, and ever since I've started using the new phone, I am no longer able to use the WAP browsing feature.  Why would one ever want to use the WAP browser you ask?  Purpose & Economy.  First, all I really want to do is check email, weather, scores, news, traffic and maybe use an instant messaging App - i can do all this just fine with my unlimited WAP browsing plan with Rogers (check: i used to be able to do this).  Secondly, Rogers charges an arm-and-a-leg for a Data plan subscription.  Currently, i'm a voice-plan subscriber, paying $35/mo. for each phone (we have two)... with a Data plan, my monthly rate doubles!! (and that's for a very basic/limited Data plan, with discounts)... NO THANKS!  If I were downloading large files, streaming video, etc. I'd be more inclined to buy a Data plan (but even then it would be a tough decision).  Anyway, not to get too off-track, but I think you get the point.
Now, I've been back and forth with Rogers for the past 2 weeks and still they haven't really provided me with an explanation as to why my X7 WAP browser will not connect.  When I rejected the few guesses they made, they basically told me to contact Nokia to find the answer, so i figured i'd start here.  Here's what Rogers tech support told me:
    1. You need to buy a Data Plan (WRONG!... I was able to browse using WAP services on my old phone)
    2. Your phone does not have the s/w (WRONG!... the X7 supports WAP 2.0 browsing, same as the 5800XM... I even used both the native Nokia Symbian browser and OperaMobile on the 5800XM, but neither works on the X7)
    3. Your new phone is "like a computer" and needs to use HTML (WRONG!... but funny/sad answer)
    4. Your phone has a different version browser (Ok, the native browser on the X7 is v7.3 whereas on the 5800 it is v7.2 - could it really make that big a difference?... not likely)
    5. Because you have a "smartphone" you need a Data plan (WRONG! doesn't sound very "smart" if it can't run a WAP browser)
So could anyone give me the real answer why WAP browsing no longer works?  Oh, and i swapped my SIM card back in my old phone, and WAP browsing works, so it doesn't seem that Rogers has inadvertently disabled something on my account.  Is it possible that WAP browsing is disabled on my Rogers-branded X7, despite that fact that I seem to be able to change the newtork settings in the phone settings and the browser settings to select WAP browsing?
One theory I had read (though Rogers denies it) is that they look at your IMEI when you attach to the network, which triggers an HLR database read, which tells the network to block WAP Browsing requests and redirect to a webpage which prompts you to buy a data plan (and the redirect is exactly what happens, every time).  My browser redirects to this Rogers webpage, and i also get a Text message stating, "Before using the mobile Internet, you must have a valid data add-on".  On the redirect, I get a hyperlink to view more details and when I select it, I navigate to URL "rogers.mobi:8080/primary/daypass_page?atype=PSPD&brand=Rogers&dtype=BB&itype=i". (which i'm guessing is not just some locally-store webpage, so I must be connecting to the Rogers network).
Anyway, Rogers prefers to pass the buck to the vendor, so here I am.  Could you please explain to me why WAP browsing will not work using the X7 on the Rogers 2G or 3G network?  Providing further phone specifics for background:
    Model; Nokia X7-00.1
    RM-659
OS: Symbian^3 "Anna", v.022.008 (dated 2011-05-26) - seems outdated, given latest is v.025.007
    OS Customization: v.022.008.241.02 (dated 2011-06-28)
    Product Code: 059J7V2
    Nokia Browser: v7.3.1.31

Ok, so I emailed Nokia Technical Support to get their input and sharing it here...
Thank you for emailing Nokia Careline.
In response to your concern about your Nokia X7-00, we would like to inform you that this particular device supports WAP browsing. If your phone is incapable of using WAP browsing, it is possible that your phone has been configured by Rogers and disabled this feature. Please be advised that your phone is locked to a service provider and they may have been configured your device to work only with their own services and software.
For more information about technical specifications of the Nokia X7-00, please visit the link that we have provided below.

    Thank you for your e-mail.

When I when I gave this response to Rogers, this was their reply...
We understand your concerns, and would be happy to assist you. I am
sorry to hear about the problem you are having with your phone. I
understand that your previous phone did not require a data plan but with
the X7, it needs a smartphone data plan for the WAP browser to work. We
do apologize for any inconvenience caused as a result of this work and
thank you for your patience and understanding.
    Regards,

    Electronic Support Group
So, with a straight answer from Nokia (which supports all my research) and no straight answer from Rogers, I have to apply deductive reasoning at the point and say it's definitely my Service Provider who has blocked me from using WAP Browsing.  My guess is either:
    a. Rogers is putting a n/w block on my phone (looking at IMEI, which reveals phone type)
    OR
    b. Rogers is placing a lock on the X7 preventing users from using WAP browsing (despite that fact that you change the settings on the phone to WAP - if it's truly been disabled this should be removed, as it causes obvious confusion).
"a" or "b", it doesn't really matter, the point here is that my Service Provider, not Nokia, has intentionally disabled features on my phone.  Such is life as a customer with a North American Wireless SP.

  • Disappointed with Symbian Belle! Pros vs Cons

I accept that I'm probably in the minority here, as a lot of you seem to be banging on about how great Belle is, but I personally dislike it! In fact, I would go as far as saying I HATE Symbian Belle, after coming from Symbian Anna!
First of all, I'd like to point out that I do appreciate the good points of Belle. I like the fact that they finally sorted out a few issues which plagued earlier Symbian^3 versions. However, some of the major issues seem to have been left unchecked, whilst I feel other aspects have been changed unnecessarily.
After 15 months of owning a Nokia N8, I kind of expected all of the bugs to have been worked out by now, but it seems that 15 months later we are still complaining about many of the issues which we complained about on day one!
I could also live with some of the minor annoyances I have found with Belle, but some are just so frustrating that I often wonder why the hell they decided to change it, especially when it didn't need to be changed in the first place! The clock and the music player homescreen widget are two such features I feel didn't need to be altered, yet they did so anyway just for the sake of it...
After just 24 hours of updating to Belle, I've decided that if I can't find a way back to Anna (I hear that a Nokia service centre can perform the downgrade), then I'm getting rid of my N8. As much as I love my N8 to bits, I cannot live with it with an interface that I am unhappy with, especially when Anna felt like second nature to me! My beloved handset has been altered, and this is no longer the phone I sent the last 15 months using
Here's what I like about Belle:
    * Extra homescreens - For me, three was always plenty, but I can see why other people would prefer to have more. However, it would be nice to have three as the default, rather than four, as I am left with an unused screen which is unnecessary for my use
    * The ability to rearrange homescreen widgets more freely - I like this feature, and it's something I initially thought was going to be a feature of Symbian^3 when the N8 was first released. Being able to finally place shortcuts anywhere on the screen is very useful, and more intuitive than having to have rows of four
    * The dropdown menu - This is a nice touch, and puts all of the most important on / off features in one place (such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth etc). However, I wish that this was a one-touch operation, rather than a touch & flick gesture
    * Speed - General transitions and navigation are so much more faster now! As it should have been to begin with...
Anything else which I like (like the faster browser and vertical QWERTY keyboard) are throwbacks from Anna, so I won't mention them here as they don't relate directly to Belle
Here's a list of the things I dislike about Belle:
    * Redesigned homescreen widgets - Was there really any need to redesign the primary homescreen widgets, such as the clock / calendar / profile menu group, and music player? On Anna, these were nice neat little widgets which occupied two rows between them - Now the music player widget takes up half the screen, and the clock / calendar / profile group has been disbanded into separate widgets which all take up extra space! Why was this necessary?
    * Redesigned digital clock - I don't like the new-look digital clock on the homescreen, and I especially don't like the new screensaver digital clock! At least give us a choice of Anna / Belle designs, so we can choose which one we prefer! I much prefer the original screensaver clock design, and I would rather have the original clock / calendar / profile menu group back in place of separate widgets for each!
    * The new text messaging interface - More specifically, the text messaging menu. For some reason, Nokia have assumed that everybody texts using the Conversations feature, and has relegated everything else to a secondary menu option to show the various text message folders. To me this is a big no-no! I like to be organised, but I don't want to keep having to switch to folder view whenever I want to manage my texts, especially when this used to be the default view when I hit the text messaging button!
    * New navigation icons and icon locations - Using Belle has become a cryptic guessing game! Navigation icons seem to have been moved around, and the icons changed. More time is spent deciphering what the icons are and what they do, rather than being quick and easy. For a Symbian newcomer, I'm sure they'll pick it up easily, but for a Symbian veteran coming from Symbian^3 / Anna to Belle, they just cause confusion! I'm scared to touch a new icon in case it does something undesired!
    * Lack of default application folders - I know, I know, there's the ability to create folders, but who the hell decided that removing default application folders was a good idea in the first place? All of my nicely organised applications have been scattered into one main group! Again, for what logistical reason?
    * Headphones no longer work - Like many people, I prefer to use my own choice of headphones, rather than those basic ones that come bundled with the N8. However, after updating to Belle, I find that my headphones no longer work! The sound is not diverted to the 3.5mm jack, and music just plays through the device speaker rather than the headphones which are plugged in. I tried them out on other devices, and they work fine, and they worked fine before I updated to Belle, so this is obviousy an issue which needs to be addressed
    * Homescreen wallpaper pictures obscured by navigation bar - Previously, the pictures I use as my homescreen wallpapers fit nicely between the navigation bar along the bottom, and the info bar along the top. With Belle this is no longer the case, where the picture is extended, and these two bars obscure the image below (the navigation bar happens to be semi-transparent, but that's beside the point)
    * Application screen button right above the physical button - I honestly don't see the point in having a button in the bottom left corner which does the exact same thing as the physical button on the N8 which is situated directly below it.
    * Profile ordering - On previous Symbian handsets, and also previously with Symbian^3 / Anna, it was possible to order your profiles however you wanted. There was also more than four default profiles. However, with Belle it seems that if you rename any of those first four, they retain their position, regardless of alphabetisation. For example, if you created a fifth profile called "Silent (Office)", it would appear in fifth place, rather than directly beneath "Silent" as you would expect
    * Renaming the default "Silent" profile conflicts with the dropdown menu function - If you rename the default "Silent" profile to something else (Ie, "Loud"), and also change the profile settings (such as turning the volume right up), then this renders the silence feature in the dropdown menu redundant! You can still select the "Silent" function from the dropdown menu, but it will activate / deactivate whatever profile occupies that second slot, regardless of whether you have it set as silent or something else
    * The camera interface - Once again, an example of moving icons when they didn't need to be moved! I used to find that the location of the various camera settings was perfect with Anna, but now they're all along the bottom. Why did they need to be moved? This is perhaps just nitpicking, and doesn't really bother me as much as other changes, but I see no reason why some things need to be changed for the sake of changing things!
Things that needed to be fixed, and still haven't:
    * Calculator - In this day and age a smartphone should have an advanced calculator, similar to many hi-end scientific calculators. At the very least, a basic calculator shoud have a "clear screen" button! We shouldn't have to exit the application and relaunch it in order to do a new calculation!
    * The music player - Artists and Albums should be separate. End of! If youre choosing a new ringtone, you can browse by either Song, Artist, or Album, so why isn't this the same for the music player? This has annoyed me ever since I first got my N8, but seems like something Nokia are reluctant to fix, despite complaints from the majority of users. Also, why is there still no user-definable equaliser?

    bumblebirra wrote:
GeminiPhoenix, you make plenty of valid points, but I think you need to try to give Belle a chance and then you might start noticing small things like the ability to simply delete any unwanted homescreens, and then it might begin to grow on you. I can understand your frustration at what you feel have been unnecessary changes (to Belle itself) but... well, I guess it must have been a MAJORLY serious age-old problem that forced you to risk the upgrade.
Your complaints about the Belle widgets are all justified and hopefully Nokia are listening and will do something about them in due course.
Even though I'd like more widgets, and more implementations of various settings into widgets, I find Belle to be be intuitive enough to make it an enjoyable experience - no less than Anna anyway.
I agree, Nokia should give the option to revert back to previous operating systems.
If I loved Anna so much, I wouldn't have cared less for latest and fastest software for my device. It would have taken a very serious problem to make me take the risk of changing it.
I admit I may have jumped the gun on one or two issues, and I have since discovered how to delete unwanted homescreens. However, this just proves that the option is well hidden away in a very specific place, where I would have probably not looked had someone not directed me to it. Therefore I formerly retract that issue from my list, but I will add that I feel such options should be more visible, especially as we don't have a user manual to flick through and we're expected to just figure this stuff out on our own!
I have also discovered that the Wi-Fi needs to be prioritised in order to automatically connect when in range of my home network. Again, this is not made clear, and the required settings are hidden away in an obscure folder where most normal people wouldn't think to look... I also retract this from my list
As for the "age-old problem" - This thread should answer everything:
    /t5/Messaging-Email-Browsing-and/Urgent-help-required-N8-refuses-to-send-text-messages-after-6/td-p/...
It was indeed a serious problem, and the only way to fix it was to update to the newest software version. No doubt the problem will occur again in a few months time, and I'll have to do the same again...
However, where I initially aimed to fix one problem, Belle has posed several new ones, such as the headphones no longer working, and the text messaging interface being rearranged based on the assumption that everyone texts using the Conversations feature. Two things I use every single day, and pretty much everywhere I go.
I am also glad that you support my complaints about the widgets, so thank you. I know they're only minor issues, but they're the most used, and I fail to understand why they decided to change certain ones. The whole widget system overhaul is great, but it's ruined by the larger widgets which formerly used to be much more compact. For example, the music player and eMail widgets are the largest and most waste of space, whereas the clock / calendar / profile cluster was perfect, so why separate them so that they take up twice as much space on the homescreen?
I too hope they're paying attention, and I have openly shared my thoughts with the Nokia team via Twitter. I would suggest everyone else does the same if they feel the same way
I liked Anna. Whlist I did miss the old PR 1.2 icons, and disliked the coloured blobs, I could live with it. I thought Belle would be more of the same, with just a few tweaks here and there to things that needed fixing, but it seems like something entirely different. At the very least, I expected certain things to stay the same, with the improvements being under-the-hood so to speak
As I have said before, certain aspects didn't need touching. They were perfectly fine as they were. Belle would function just as well if they had've left the widgets as they were. I appreciate that they've done a lot of work making certain aspects run faster, but some things weren't broken, so why try to fix them? Even more frustrating is the fact that other issues have yet again been ignored, such as the terrible music player interface, which almost everybody wants changing back to something similar to the S60 v5.0 era

    Thank you.

    Hi,
I've been an avid Nokia fan and recently made the move from my beloved Nokia 5800 to the Nokia N8.
I used the excellent music player very often on my 5800, however I have been left Very frustrated by the music player on Nokia N8 and other symbian^3 (ANNA) devices.
The main culprit of the problem is *Artists and albums* are grouped together.
They Need To Be Two Separate Categories.
I cannot understand why the music player functionality has also been downgraded from Symbian S60 5th Edition. As I am left Unable to edit my music's meta data.
    Very Frustrating.
I sincerely hope my concern will be dealt with, or at least noted.
This is a make or break feature for me and will influence my decision if I should buy another Nokia S^3 device.
    Thank You.
    Have a nice day

  • E6 with Symbian Belle?

    Hi there!
I'm planning on replacing my old E5-00 with a new E6.now, i know that the phone comes with Symbian Anna but i am getting conflicting reports/messages as regards software updates.
I have read from well-known internet site that Nokia will update all its Symbian Anna devices to Belle "soon". but when i rung Nokia they said No.
i should feel and have confidence when buying a Nokia phone because they are really good on the build and battery issues. not so much on the software side i think.
so, i want to find out once-and-for-all:
    1. will Nokia update their Symbian Anna devices to Belle "somehow" or in the near future?
    2. will Nokia continue to support their E-series devices with software updates even without Symbian Belle?
    3. should i buy an E6 now or wait for newer phones in the new year?
    thank you.

Nokia E6 has a diffrent resolution and layout then other Symbian^3 (Anna) devices so probably it could take longer before Belle comes to Nokia E6  ... but at least the Nokia conversation page mentions that E6 will get the Belle update
    http://conversations.nokia.com/2011/08/24/symbian-belle-the-facts-the-features-and-the-pictures/
I would call Nokia Care again and really ask them to find this out for you.
They might not be able to get an answer right away, but they should be able to find out and get back to you...
Nokia is still supporting and releasing updates for other E-series phones that are non S^3 devices, so cant see why they wouldnt continue to support the E6 no matter if it gets Belle or not.    ..they recently released an update for E72 for instance

Phenomenon is occurring in the network of SoftBank Mobile.
    Symbian ^ 3 for all devices (C6-01, C7, N8, E7) are experiencinga reboot.
Symbian ^ 3 Anna is in trouble for many users.
An urgent, please apply the patch that was applied to the S60 3rd and 5th in the Symbian Anna.
According to friends, I think the problem can not be ignored byNokia in the world and has also been observed in Singapore.
    Thank you.

The same problem here in Romania after updating to Anna (it occurs only with RO Cosmote carrier, there are NO problems at all while using with Orange or Vodafone).
I also have a detailed topic for this: /t5/Software-Updates/Anna-is-having-issues-while-handling-certain-network-operators/m-p/1141049#M981...
@all who are experiencing this issue, in the mean time you may try and see if your devices are stable while using GSM mode (under Settings - Connectivity - Network - Network mode).
Being a widely spread issue, let's hope we'll see Anna patched rather sooner than later :-)

  • Nokia C-7 software error (Symbian OS3)

Hey, im in the middle of my GCSE's and have to remove the battery from my phone when in a exam, when i come to put the battery back in the menu button does not work, meaning i cant acces anything that isnt available on voice command or the home screen.
I have in the past had to do a hard reset, but i dont fancy having to do this after every exam i go to cos  it deletes everything, so anyone any ideas?
    Thanks for reading.

Ok people i contacted NOKIA and this is what they replied, but... no luck, and im not going to send my phone in as last time it took a few weeks.
I am going to wait untill Symbian OS3 ANNA is released and see if this solves the problem, if not ill come back here.
    (message from Nokia)
    Dear Mr. Edwards,
Thank you for contacting Nokia Care.
We understand that you are having an issue with your Nokia C7-00 after removing the battery. We suggest that you perform the following troubleshooting steps to rectify the issue:
    Powercyle:
    1. Kindly turn off your phone.
    2. Remove the battery, SIM card and memory card for 5 minutes.
    3. Place back the battery, SIM card and memory card and turn on you phone.
If performing a powercycle has not resolved the issue, we suggest that you do a soft reset on your Nokia C7-00. To do this, kindly follow the steps below:
    1. Go to the phone's main screen and press *#7780#.
    2. You will be prompted to restore the factory settings and it will ask for a lock code. If you have not changed the code, the default is 12345.
    3. Your phone will automatically restart after pressing the code.
Furthermore, if the issue still persist after performing a soft reset. We recommend that you perform a software update on your Nokia C7-00 instead.  The latest version for the Nokia C7-00 is version 014.002.
Remember to do a backup before performing a software update as this deletes data. You may back up you files using Ovi Suite so that you will only need to connect your device to your PC. To back up your files using Ovi Suite, kindly follow the steps below:
    1. Download and install Ovi Suite from the link below:
    http://www.nokia.co.uk/support/download-software/ovi-suite/compatibility-and-download
    2. Connect the phone you want to back up to your computer with a USB  cable. You can also use a Bluetooth connection. Your phone may ask you  how you want to connect. Select PC Suite and then select OK.
    3. In Nokia Ovi Suite, select Tools > Backup. Nokia Ovi Suite reads your phone and prepares a list of information that can be backed up.
    4. Select the information that you want to back up. If you want to change where the backup file is saved, select Browse and choose another location. If you have a lot of  music, photos or videos on your phone, including them in the backup will cause the backup process to be slower.
    5. Select Start to begin the backup. Do not disconnect or switch off your phone during the backup. If you need to stop the backup, select Stop. Nokia Ovi Suite will reach a  safe stop point and will then stop the backup.
    6. Click Finish to close the back up wizard.
After making a backup proceed to the following steps to complete the software update:
1.) Charge your battery – this is very important; charge your battery to the full power before starting the update process; if you run out of battery in the middle of updating you can seriously harm your phone (it  probably won’t even start up)
2.) Download Nokia Software Updater – install the updater; this piece of software will guide you through the whole update process; you might need
to unblock it in your firewall
3.) Launch the Nokia Sofware Updater – from now on it’s really simple, just follow the guide and you’ll be fine; the whole updating process takes several minutes to complete, don’t try to cancel it in the middle in any case, your risk damaging your phone, USB cable needed again.
4.) Restore your data – if you used a memory card for backup then you simply go to the Tools – Memory select Options – Restore from card; if you used Nokia PC Suite you have to connect your phone to the pc via USB cable, select Backup and Restore. Now you have your  phone loaded with the newest software. If you experienced some problems with your phone performance before the update process should fix it. So go on and check it out. To make sure your phone is really updated type *#0000# when in idle screen and check the software version.

  • For all who are facing restarts and battery proble...

I now have N8 with Anna perfectly working without tweaking (except for wifi scanning) any settings without battery life issues and no spontaneous resets..
    Soln 1 :
Go to post 31 in this  thread /t5/Nseries-and-Symbian-Smartphones/Anna-Battery-Consumption-very-heavy-Nokia-N8/td-p/1121257
    This will solve the problem.
    Soln 2 -
I still had sluggish performance after soln 1. I also noticed, that all the issues are reported by people who have "upgraded from pr 1.2 to Anna". I have not come across similar issues in the forum from people "who purchased phone with Anna pre-loaded". It seems that the upgrade process probably has some issues.
I downloaded the "FULL" official firmware of my country's variant of Anna. Using a tool that I downloaded, I completely flashed my N8 with the full firmware. Ever since performance has been a whiz...no battery life issues and no resets. It is as good as the N8 purchased from the store with Anna pre-loaded from factory.
    Some caveats :
    1. This is not for the timid-hearted. The steps have to be followed exactly. Do your research before you attempt.
    2. Take a backup of your N8 before you do this. After you follow the procedure "Do not restore your applications & settings". Re-install them instead.
    3. For reasons that are obovious, I cannot mention the steps nor the links. It is easy enough to get by google search.
    Good luck..

First off, I can't guarrantee this will fix your particular issue. It fixed mine. Apparently, ICS reconfigures numerous programs and settings. Comcast Email is one of them. The settings have SSL as default in both, incoming and outgoing. Comcast, afaik, doesn't use or require SSL. You need to change SSL to "none" in both, incoming and outgoing settings. That's it. Nothing else need be done. Close it, relaunch email app, let it connect or manually connect. The "no connection" error should be gone and your email should come in and go out. Now, how to to do it:
Click on the "Apps" circle button, all apps, My Accounts (or Accounts and Sync if you don't have My Accounts), Email & Calendars, --> choose your comcast account and go to Account settings, -->choose Comcast (not General), scroll down to "Server Settings". Here you'll find your incoming and outgoing settings. Under "security type" choose "none" and do that for both, incoming and outgoing. Incoming Port: 110; Outgoing Port: 587. Click done, for each server, incoming, then outgoing. It will validate the server each time. When finished, click done, and let it connect to email and download it.
I hope this helps all who have been having Comcast Email issues after ICS update. Good luck!
It changed my GoDaddy account (I have my own domain name with email) settings, along with my wife's RoadRunner email settings. It doesn't look like it is just Comcast email...

  • Nokia N8 update... need your help

    Hi!
    I'm new here
Let me start by saying that I'm new to all of these Nokia tech stuff
I've just installed the Nokia Ovi Suite on my computer , and I can see that there is an update available for my phone.
The update info is: version 025.007
These are only numbers, so my question is how do I know if this "Anna" or "Belle" update?
Currently, I have the " 011.012" version installed...
Would you recommend installing this update? Is it the newest update available?
    thanks

    Hi,
The update version 025.007 is Symbian/Nokia Anna, which is the previous update.
The latest update is 111.030.0609, which is Symbian/Nokia Belle.
I recommend installing Anna as it includes some important features like a portrait QWERTY keyboard.
You havent mentioned which country you are in and what is your product code, however, you can check if you can update to Belle on the nokia UK site. The Belle update is not yet available to all variants, so it may take a while before you receive the update, especially if your phone is carrier/network locked.

  • My .jar and .jad files are not launching

Hello everyone! I have a problem with my files stated above. I am unable to open them. I see a yellow key at the top right corner on the icons. I Have checked them. They don't have QT errors either. I have gone through the D and Z drives by Xplore but i don't recognize anything that might be the cause of the problem. Does anyone have a solution?

    You might wish to tell:
    - Which phone model you have.
    - Which Symbian version is on the phone (if several/different versions supported, such as Symbian^3, Anna, Belle)
    - Are the Java apps developed by you, or if you downloaded them from somewhere
    - Did they end up on your phone via a browser download, Nokia/Ovi Store download, or from a PC using Bluetooth or USB

  • Nokia Multiscanner (Nokia's OCR app)

    Hi there.
This is more a software request than a review.
Sometime ago there was a great application for Nokia devices; it was called "Nokia Multiscanner" and it was Nokia's OCR app. Actually now Nokia has released great Nokia camera devices starting with the awesome Nokia N8 with its 12mp. camera with Carl Zeiss lens and it's enormous potential is not fully used yet. Should be fantastic we can count with this app. in our Symbian^3, Anna or Belle devices.
I hope there will be more people interested in this application.
This suggestion has been discussed also in the Nokia Beta Labs site and here is the link:

It is also strange that ABBYY Business Card Reader for Symbian has not made transition to S^3 as a lot of application compatible with S60 5th Ed. touchscreen devices have.
    @aspergerguy
ABBYY has already made the transition to Symbian^3:

Perhaps it's time to bring back Nokia Multiscanner also.

Because the HTTP server account.nokia.com turned-off SSLv3 on October 15th 2014, you need at least
    A) Nokia Belle Refresh (Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokia E6, Nokia C7, Nokia X7, Nokia C6-01, Nokia 500) or
    B) Nokia Belle Feature Pack (Nokia 808 PureView, Nokia 701, Nokia 700, Nokia 603)
which comes with Qt 4.8. Qt 4.8 is required to continue to use the Nokia Account within the Nokia Store because the Nokia Store client of these phone models is based on QML.
    Solutions
    A) on your phone, dial *#0000# » Options » Check for updates
    B) via a Windows computer: Nokia Suite (for update)
    C) via a Windows computer: Software Recovery Tool (for reset + update = refurbish)
If none of these solutions give you a newer firmware version or the above error message persists, please, dial *#0000# and give us your Software version and Product code.
