Symbian 3 app

currently i using nokia n8 but i feel that nokia app is very limited
such as: windows live messages, talksbox, photo editor and so on.
improvement:
we want the facebook app like iphone / android  - because the app can check in, chat and can see the notification
some time my friend using their iphone send text msg with symbol to me but i can read or see the symbol they send to me

1. Ovi Maps can check in on facebook and twitter at the same time.
2. Well the facebook app is lame. I know an independent developer making a S^3 app that looks like the iphone fb app. Its in beta testing though. Also, FB itself makes the apps, not Nokia. You could try third party apps like socially. Personally, the touch.facebook.com app fits my needs anyway.
3. What did he/she say the symbol was?
If you find my post helpful please click the green star on the left under the avatar. Thanks.

Those apps that are compatible with Symbian Anna should be compatible with Belle too.

There is NOTHING like 'Must have' applications. Its solely user dependant.. An application extremely useful to one user may be totally useless for you and vice-versa... Best is to search on OVI Store or Google and decide yourself..

  • N8 Facebook App/Touch Facebook Site

What's the point of the N8 having a pre-installed Facebook app when there is a Touch Facebook site?  Also, I cannot delete or amend messages using the pre-installed N8 Facebook app which surely is a major fault/shortcoming and to then have to use the Touch Facebook site to amend a message posted using the app is just plain ridiculous!!!!
    Any guidance is greatly appreciated!

Agreed, the Symbian Facebook app ain't great!  My brother's got the iphone 4 and facebook is brilliant on it, in fact he only uses his mobile for Facebook now because he reckons it's better than using his pc!
You asked if I'm using the Facebook app and not the Social app - ???  I have to go in through the social app to access the Facebook app (if that makes sense) because that seems to be how to use it on the N8.  But given the useless user guide provided with the N8 who knows!!!
Any clear advice from anyone is greatly appreciated.
It seems bizarre for Nokia to shout about how great their Facebook app is on the N8 but when you can't delete or amend messages then it ain't that great!  I posted a message the other day and immediately needed to remove it  - no chance - so it was out there for all to read until I could access my pc!!!!  Come on Nokia sort it (or am I missing something)??  If so please update the user guide to tell people how to fully use it - gggrrrrrr!!!!!

  • Access Address Book

I would like to list the user´s address book details
(name and number of each contact) in my app. The user would then
choose a contact and my app would send an sms.
Is it possible to access a device´s address book with
    flash lite? If yes, how?

    Hi forum.newbie,
This is not possible directly through Flash Lite. I don't
even think its possible using a symbian/java app either, due to
    security issues.

  • Joikuspot Premium Nokia E6 No Internet

Joikuspot Premium Nokia E6 No Internet
I can connect my laptop or my Ipad to the WAP that is the phone but which ever I use says no Internet connection, anyone know how to resolve this ?

Because I have no other idea than that, I would love to check anyway because in Symbian every app is a bit different in that regard (default connection, Internet destination, deticated access point, …). „Full Internet access“ cannot be carried-over from one app to another.

  • Can I program the E90 ?

I am an ex-Psion user (my 3c, 5 and 5mx still work!!), therefore I used OPL (a lot) to write handy programs (engineering calcs, back-of-pocket algorithms, etc.). On my Imate (PocketPC) and Treo (PalmOS) I installed Basic interpreter and C compiler to help me continue programming.
Are there similar programming software for the E90 ?.
Although I hear Nokia OS is based on Symbian, no chance it will have OPL on it, right? I noticed that the size of the E90 display seems as large as that of the Psion 5mx, which makes it eye-friendly for writing/editing/debugging (at least for simple programs).
Thanks in advance for any feedback !!

You can write Symbian C++ apps, Java (J2ME, Java 2 Micro Edition) apps, Python apps or Flash Lite apps for the E90, at least.
The developer tools, etc., you will find on http://forum.nokia.com
The E90 is based on "S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1", so look for tools for that S60 version.

  • Maps support

I noticed that I haven't had any map-upgrades for awhile?
I thought Nokia said that Symbian would have support upto 2016?
Not to mention that Nokia said lifetime free maps. I understand that they mean the lifetime o/t device. My device is bought in early 2013. Standard consumer warranty is upto early 2015 so expect at least map-upgrades upto end-2015. Come on Nokia. Take your responsability and provide us with the support we deserve. After all Nokia Symbian customers are ALSO customers. Or is our money of less value than that of Lumia customers?

    Morgoth81 wrote:
Unfortunately, Nokia always was talking about (device-)life-long NAVIGATION. You still can navigate, till your device brakes. That has nothing to do with UPDATES for the navigation. I think, it was formulated mistakable on purpose, but well, it doesn't matter...
And to the Symbian support: Well, the store ist still open, although there won't be any updates since this year. You can still download the symbian-installation-files to completly re-install your phone etc.
I know, it's not that, what I was expecting either, but that's the problem with unclear formulations.
Nokia ought to atleast supply suport/upgrades to honour the warranty period. This means end of 2015 for many 808PV customers.
    1) The fact remains that the 808PV was one o/t most expensive Nokia phones. You can't expect customers to throw that phone in the bin after merely 1 year and a few months.
    2) Fact 2. There STILL isn't a full replacement for that 808PV from Nokia. WP-devices STILL haven't got the featureset of a Symbian device and Harmatan-devices are also discarded. What Nokia seems to forget is that some customers rely on that particular featureset (or some of these unique features in particular) and that they can't simply toss that 808PV away and get, for example, a Lumia 1020 to replace it.
For instance I rely on local (USB/WIFI/BT) syncing. Do Nokia (and Microsoft) really expect me to discard my expensive Office 2007 professional with Outlook which holds my entire client database that I bought when I became self-employed? A address-list that contains over 700 customers with typical data like telephonenos, address and email and which I only locally sync to my phone due to privacy concerns as some of these clients have supplied me their unlisted private telenos. Unless Microsoft/Nokia pay me for this clients-list just as I had to do when I started my small business years ago. Then they can have my entire company with it as well.
This is especially ridiculous sine both products WP and MS Office come from the same company. Yet, a Windows Phone can't locally sync with Microsoft's primary PIM... Office Outlook. MS own tools like Mobility Center or Sync Center which are included in MS own OS's are unhelpfull in that matter. Though there is a 3rd party (non-MS) app that can (finally) sync a WP-device with MS Office Outlook. It's not cheap and it should be supplied by Microsoft itself.
Or what about this? I use an automatic callrecorder app to record calls when I drive (between clients). Due to the fact that using a phone while driving is prohibited in my country (and many other countries). While my calls only contain appointments, names, addresses and telephone nos., I unfortunatley can't spend money on a secretary or telephone-service/dispatching-agency nor have a spouse at home working for me either to take notes from callers. So a callrecorder is the perfect solution. It allows me to jot down all the appointements gathered through the day into my PIM when I get home in the evening. This is the ideal tool for any self-employed road-warrior like doctors, taxi-drivers, plumbers who deal with clients directly (and need to jot down apointement/PIM-data). An important tool that is much overlooked and unfortunately STILL isn't available in WP (though it was available for some earlier WM6.x-devices).
I couldn't care less what OS my smartphone runs if it does what I need. Unfortunately WP still isn't there. After all this time and all these fancy upgrades with those flashy names like Nokia Black etc... In fact I find it strange that the combined forces of Nokia and Microsoft still haven't come up the most awesome smartphone on the planet! A device which should have had the most advanced featureset, the very best imaging coupled with the best tools and apps imaginable since they both have years of experience in software & hardware. MS even has a whole lot of experience in Game-building/consoles/etc. Yet all we get is that abomination also known as Lumia. It's disgusting!
    3) then there's the obligatory warranty period. Nokia should at least respect that period and provide necesary updates and upgrades when needed during that time.
    4) A device lifetime is much longer than 1 year and a few months! Even Samsung respect that (see how they still provide updates for their SGS3)
Fact of the matter is that map-data is just ordnance-data. I fail to see why Lumia's (who's mapp-app is less evolved than Symbian's app) would have different data (or a Jolla device which also uses Here-maps for that matter) then Symbian's Map-apps? This is pure discrimination.
Does Nokia really think that by bullying us we'll buy Lumia's? I think NOT!
While Nokia could make it so easy. Just keep manufacturing that 808PV (since it still is a class of its own with regards to imaging) and sell it as an advanced camera-phone instead of a "smartphone". It can be sold a little bit cheaper than that Lumia 1020 as an alternative for people who care less about apps and more about a phone with great (still) imaging. It still has basic smartphone functionality and a few unique and unrivalled tricks of its own (FM-transmitter, pure multitasking, call-recording etc...) and might be easier to use as a phone thanks to its reall call & hang-up buttons. Then nobody would question Symbian's limited apps selection compared to the other (big) smartphones.
But it seems that Nokia's current CEO only knows how to discard things instead of turning these assets into something usefull. A real professional if you ask me. He gave me the best of confidence in Nokia by disrespecting my rights as a consumer and discarding me as a customer. I'll sure remember that when I buy another +500 euro phone.
    Cheers

  • E61 Worldmate Installation Move

    Hi,
I installed Worldmate on my E61 without a problem, but now find it was placed on the 64 MB memory card that came with the phone. I purchased a 1 GB card and would like to move the install to the new SD card. How do I go about making this happen?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer....

    http://www.businesssoftware.nokia.com/mail_for_exchange.php
You can try an USB memory card reader to copy all the files (including hidden/system files) from the old card to the new. On pre-S60 3rd Edition phones Symbian/S60 apps worked fine after that. All Java apps had to be reinstalled. I haven't gotten it to work like that at all on S60 3rd Edition devices myself.

  • [N95] Crashing on data connection

After updating firmware from first 30.x series to latest 31.0.017 I immediatelly spotted a problem when using data connection.
Phone will spontaneously crash and reboot when (using Packet data bearer connection).
    Phone details:
    N95 (07.01) , RM-159, fw v 31.0.017.
There are no direct steps how to reproduce this, but I'm able to reproduce this with this software running on phone simultaneously:
    - Music player in background
    - Opera mini in front and browsing
(- Connection manager sometimes, not needed for crash to occur).
    - Earphones with custom profile activated (maybe relevant)
On a 2 hour journey my phone crashed with an ugly hissing sound and rebooted about 4 times, always witth same pattern of usage: music player in background, opera mini in front and browsing with a packet data bearer type of connection.
This doesn't happend at all if using wirelless connection (I did next day at home for several hours with same applications).
Back on my way I tried with setting from Dual Mode to GSM, but it was crashing nevertheless.
It seems to me that this occurs when network coverage is changing rapidly from no coverage at all to Edge or maybe 3G.
It's a freshly updated phone, only removed Ngage stuff and installed Opera Mini, FireEagle updater (http://fireeagle.yahoo.net/j2me),  and CorePlayer 1.3.0 (original version, non-cracked).
One of crashes happened also when I used fireeagle (was updating status) with music player in background. Maybe it is java app + network related?
Cannot test with symbian native apps since using e.g. builtin browser will generate great amount of data traffic, which is expensive.

Does this happen when doing anything else while phone is connected via USB? In PC Suite mode?
If it happens all the time, I would recommened uninstalling Nokia PC Suite, Nokia connectivity cable drivers and PC Connectivity solutions and then redownload Nokia PC Suite from www.nokia.com/pcsuite

  • I can't delete symbian apps in nokia n93i

I can't delete symbian apps. I want to know how to delete the symbian apps. Please help me.

    See if anything here helps.
If the downloads are stalled or "waiting" - try these suggestions.
Tap the "waiting" icon and see if you can pause it. If it does pause, then tap it again and see if it will resume. If that works, repeat the same steps for each "waiting" icon.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.
You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again.
You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.
If all else fails, download the updates or the apps in iTunes on your computer and then sync the content to your iPad.

  • Adobe Photoshop app for symbian OS

    Hi Sir,
Can you develop the Photoshop app for Symbian OS also??? I have used Photoshop app in Lumia 720 & it was gorgeous. And as you know Nokia 808 Pureview is one of the best camera smartphones ever made. With 41 mega pixels, we can do wonders. But only problem that I found is the sodding Symbian OS. There are no good photo editing apps for Symbian platform. Does Symbian OS meets the requirements?? It would be great if a Photoshop app is available for that platform also.
    Regards,
    Sajeev C

No, the CS5 software is operating system-specific and even if you were willing to trade for the Windows version you could not at this point due to that only being possible for the latest. release, CS6.

  • Viber app for symbian

i recently installed viber on my nokia x7 running symbian belle os. But when i started it i came to know that it doesn't have a calling option unlike android and ios phones. This is utter disappointment for me and i think for many nokia users. I would like to know will there be any updation regarding viber app in the coming or i should uninstall it because it is of no use if it does not have a calling option. Please update regarding this.

My N8 has dropped six percent in five hours and 48 minutes with Viber running in the background. I'm measuring this using the Battery Info widget. I haven't any reason to think that that widget is giving me false information and has seemed to be quite accurate over the months I've been using it.

  • New apps for symbian belle

Hi. When will new apps available for symbian belle phones?. We can see that in android phones are flooded with apps.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There is a huge number of apps for Symbian.
Up to about 2010 it was the leading operating system in smartphones.
What Nokia don't have is the Apple IOS type of well organised app shop. A lot of Symbian app developers sold their apps directly, and a lot have withdrawn the apps from the shop for some bizzare reason. Those in the latter group who don't sell them directly are a problem and you have to google for the .sis file and eventually you will find one that installs.
Both the Nokia app shop and the Apple app shop are 95% useless garbage, however, and that will always be the case for smartphones because there are loads of app developers who think they are going to get rich by writing some near-useless app and selling a million of them for €0.50 each.
"Symbian is in the late stages of it's "death" now"
That's interesting. Can you post the date my phone is going to stop working? With 26,746 posts you are probably well connected and know the exact date.

However; during field tests it would be really helpful do send these AT-commands from our mobile phones. Does anybody know of an app similar to Hyperterminal which runs on Symbian OS - more specifically the new N95?
