Symbian^3 Belle Question

On Nokia's Facebook page they said that symbian^3 phones with belle has a 1Ghz  processor. Is it just for the upcoming devices or will the old devices such as N8, E7, C7 & etc. be clocked to 1Ghz?
I currently have an N8 and I am looking forward to the update.

@kadet - warranty voiding procedures are not allowed on official forums. Also by "consequences I do not care", then it means you dont care if you burn your phone's wirings to toast from overclocking? Basically you could end up with a nice shiny paperweight from Nokia.
@Olsen_Ong - I meant what I said. I did not mean to be offensive. What I meant was that your opinion on the phone being capable of being overclocked with no problem is just that, your opinion. An opinion with no facts backing it up on the operating temperatures of the device components. Do you know them? Do you know the exact specs of the motherboard, the carrying capacities of the wiring inside? Again, I reiterate, your thought of the phone being able to handle overclocking well, is again, just your opinion only, and not a fact mainly because we dont have facts on the operating temperatures of the phone's components, especially since some N8s already have overheating issues. If they remove the limiter, then well and good, if they do not, don't hate them for it, as it just means that the phone wasnt designed for it.

  • Symbian Support 2016 question

Would you have any idea with regards to Nokia’s commitment with the Nokia belle platform? With the recent focus on purely lumia and s40. Will Nokia remain comitted to support symbian until at least 2016 or has that changed as well? And what would be the support that nokia will give to belle?

my understanding is a big yes - so far, that is.
unless we get another burning ecosystems memo that is!
don't get lost in the lumia noise. google about something called as 808 pureview.
belle on 1st gen S^3 fones will have support, is my understanding - so far, that is. infact, new erstwhile N8s, E6s & E7s are sold readymade with belle, i am told.
plus, as always, nokia continues to support a few select OSs like E72, E52 as well with their updates.
so, again, unless some burning memo gets released, all is well until 2016 for belle.
be informed, "symbian" no longer exists. it is only "nokia belle" now.
despite having said all of the above, my E90 DOES NOT have support for updates / firmware reinstallation etc. nevertheless, it runs like a darling for me.
my question to you is, if you buy an old "symbian" device, hoping you don't meddle-fiddle-mess up the system with apps, why would you require any support at all?! them darn things just work like darlings!
    cheers.
desperately waiting for an update from "Symbian Belle 111.030.0609" to "Nokia Belle" with all the fixes, and without any new tumours!

  • Nokia N8/Belle question about WI-FI

I just updated to Belle and have a question.
If WI-FI is on does it mean it always scanning for available networks and drains battery?
There was a setting in Anna to disable scanning, but Wlan still would work if any app using it.
    Thanks

What do I do
The only reason that I can think of is that your connection priorities are incorrectly set.
Use Menu>Settings>Connectivity>Settings>Network Destinations>Internet. Then long press on your wifi connection and choose Change Priority, and then select the first connection in the list.

  • C7 symbian anna update questions

So there seems to be a lot of problems with the anna-update and lots of bugs. i sit worth the risk?
is it possible to downgrade again?
and will all my apps still be in place and function?
will I have to redo all my settings and personalisations? like all the folders and files. all saved games etc etc...
I have the c7-00 with latest symbian ^3 now and im pretty pleased with it.
    so.. worth it?

Exactly! A software update is always great. The main problems caused are due to certain apps that are installed in your phone which conflict with the new features.Best way to update is to hard reset your phone and then update. And also always install those apps that are compatible with your phone. Some apps are not compatible with your phone, but they run as normal and like to cause problems in the long run or when you update your software.

  • Nokia 500 Review on Symbian Belle

After the update screen went through, I had my fingers crossed, and despite the screen saying “15 minutes remaining,” the update was finished in about 5 minutes.
Upon startup, there was a line of dots (….) which lighted up on after the other sort of like a loading bar and it was. After the loading came the usual language selection and Ovi suite options (“Create an Ovi Account” “I have an account” and of course “Later.”) after going through the Ovi suite options (literally took 10 seconds) my carrier had charged me about 0.45cents (USD cents) for the tips I had signed up on while I still had Symbian Anna on the device. Nokia suite was installing support software after the phone booted up and after 5 more minutes, I set the date, time and location and I was presented with the home screen. The standard home screen as on other Belle devices with the Flip clock, Ovi Social widget and 4 icons (Camera, contacts, Angry birds [oh yea!] and Maps) at the last widget’s position; at the bottom edge of the screen are menu, call and home screen options. The widgets take a few seconds to load but once they load they don’t lag. The second home screen has “Favorite contacts” widgets and 4 more icons (Messaging, Store, Calendar and Web), the third home screen has a Music player widget and the 4th home screen is blank for the user to customize. Unlike other Nokia/Symbian Belle devices, the Nokia 500 only has 4 home screens as opposed to 6.
The lock screen is similar to the Anna screen and is only redesigned. The Belle home screen allows usage of a background unlike Symbian Anna’s.
Now the menu: unlike Symbian Anna, the menu does not have an applications folder so everything is spread out on the home screen creating a mini mess. Luckily, there is an option to create a new folder in which to put your apps in.
In Symbian Anna, the keypad for ‘Call’ was not very user friendly as the ‘*’ and ‘#’ where not where they would be on a physical alphanumerical keypad, but on Belle, the keypad is identical to the physical one and very responsive.
    Apps:
While Symbian Anna lagged on the Nokia 500, Nokia Belle is very smooth. I don’t see any major changes with the camera on the 500 and the quality remains the same. There have been some rumors going around about the Nokia 500 getting HD video with the Belle update but these rumors are not true and the Nokia 500 remains with the usual 640p*313p video. While on Symbian Anna, there was no ‘Gallery’ icon but there is one on Symbian Belle and a separate ‘Videos’ icon is there too for easy access to downloaded videos (yes downloaded videos or those NOT taken with the phone’s camera). The angry birds app is a hugely wanted app for the Nokia 500 and is very identical to the computer version. Actually, it IS the computer version in smaller scale. Symbian Belle still allows the user to kill unwanted applications running in the background by holding down the menu key and clicking the ‘X’ icon. Ovi maps on the device is version 3.06 as predicted and even if not version 3.08, it still gets the job done.
The settings menu is the same and nothing major there too. On Symbian Anna, the Nokia 500 has many themes for different colors but on Symbian/Nokia Belle, the 500 only has one “Nokia Evolve” theme which means the users have to download their own themes for personalization.
Overall, the icons seem a bit smaller especially on the home screen and this makes the phone look abit tiny which it is. The size was not brought out in Symbian Anna but in Belle we can see how small the screen on the phone is compared to devices like the E7, N8 and Nokia 701.
With Symbian Belle, the Nokia 500 is able to really show its 1Ghz processor at work and even if it might not be able to play (fancy) 3D games due to the lack of a OpenGL compatible GPU, it can still allow us to play OpenVG games such as “Asphalt 6: Adrenaline” and “Nuke Defender 3D” available from Ovi store.

Great to see you are a happy user. I have just bought two Nokia 500 phones (another for my wife), upgraded to Belle, and both have the same infuriating problems:
    - system crashes half a dozen times a day without any warning (during calls, browsing, text messaging)
    - if I change the language for text messages, I cannot type anything (SMS) any more
    - when phone goes to sleep, it often won't wake up and I need to remove the battery (after doing this 4-5 times a day one starts to get very frustrated).
I am very disappointed and cannot recommend the phone to anyone. First Nokia that I feel this way with.

  • Nokia N8 update... need your help

    Hi!
    I'm new here
Let me start by saying that I'm new to all of these Nokia tech stuff
I've just installed the Nokia Ovi Suite on my computer , and I can see that there is an update available for my phone.
The update info is: version 025.007
These are only numbers, so my question is how do I know if this "Anna" or "Belle" update?
Currently, I have the " 011.012" version installed...
Would you recommend installing this update? Is it the newest update available?
    thanks

    Hi,
The update version 025.007 is Symbian/Nokia Anna, which is the previous update.
The latest update is 111.030.0609, which is Symbian/Nokia Belle.
I recommend installing Anna as it includes some important features like a portrait QWERTY keyboard.
You havent mentioned which country you are in and what is your product code, however, you can check if you can update to Belle on the nokia UK site. The Belle update is not yet available to all variants, so it may take a while before you receive the update, especially if your phone is carrier/network locked.

  • N8 infection

I am using Nokia n8 since 1 and half year. I had upgraded my phone from symbian to belle through nokia suite 3.4. At that time it updates the os. I downloaded many themes and other software compatible with my phone from ovi suite and phoneky.com. when I download a theme from phoneky, i think it was corrupted and it makes me to restart my phone several times untill and unless I didn't remove that theme. After that I found that I had lost many factory function from my device such as I didn;t find photo editor, my use image as wallpaper, or as contact images (Gallery options) were not showing. After that i thought it was all due to virus from that theme and I format my phone using factory setting. But this doesn't solve my problem and again I hard reset my phone and load the new belle OS. But I found that those features which i had mentioned above were not recovered. I went to the mobile expert and he advised me to flash the device but I didn't agree to Flash. Because when I upgrade the symbian to belle. I hadn't flashed it But nokia suite had done it for me. Now can I get my full featured OS from nokia suite. Is there any Idea to get my phone's OS all feature. Please help me. I can't do it better. Hope you have the solution of this.

there's not any nokia service center nearby...I have to go 500+ km to get into the service center. How do i reinstall fresh belle OS for my nokia.
Firstly, you can perform a factory reset by typing *#7370# and enter the security code when prompted. The default code is 12345 unless you have changed it yourself. This procedure will wipe all data and apps from your phone so backup your most important stuff first.
When the reset is complete you can re-install Belle by connecting your phone to Nokia Suite and selecting the Update button at the top of the screen. Nokia suite will search for an update and if non are found will give you the option to re-install Belle.
As you have found out the hard way, it's best to avoid warez sites like the one you mentioned. Get your apps, themes and games from legitimate sources instead.
    All the best.
    Ray.

  • Strange issue when synching information from phone...

    Hi!
Perhaps this has been asked before, sorry for this.
A customer of ours uses our exchange 2010 services and uses Nokia E7 phones. The version of Symbian is Belle FP2.
Setting up an account is easy and everything seems to work and to synch correctly. However....
Whenever the customer edits an existing calendaritem e.g. additional information.. this will not be synched to exchange. Not visible in both Outlook and webmail. Changes in time, subject and location > no problem.
It's changes in the textbox which will not synch.
Does this sound familiair? Is this a bug? And more important; is there a fix?
    Thanks in advance!

Anyone else has / had this problem? Ive seen it on two E7's sofar..
Tips or help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Unable to connect to WIFI on Asha 501

My Nokia Asha 501 is not connecting to my wifi network. displays error unsupported security type? and there is no option to edit WIFI network also... Any solution for this?? Thanks in advance

LadyPink, you have to sell your phone and go for another operating system like Symbian/S60 Belle Feature Pack 2 (for example the Nokia 700), Windows Phone 8 (for example the Nokia Lumia 520) or one of the operating systems which your mates use.

  • Hardware Flac support in N8

I'd like ask what the community think about adding support for more music formats? I was reading about the hardware specs of my N8, and I found out that it has a broadcom chip. This broadcom chip comes with some hardware support to many audio format, being more specific, flac. This format is very acclaimed by the audiophile community, without saying I'm one of them. flac is a excellent format since it is a lossless format. Now, knowing this, why Nokia don't add flac support to the default music player? the chip itself support it! What do you guys think about it? How can we suggest this to Nokia?

FLAC support for Symbian Anna/Belle would really be up to whoever wants to develop it for Nokia phones as it is an open source codec. You could try the old Oggplay for Symbian^1 devices to see if that will work.
    http://symbianoggplay.sourceforge.net/
Alternatively, you could suggest the idea of developing a FLAC player over on the Nokia Ideas Project website and see if someone will take on the project.

    system error

    Hi scola,
    Thank you for posting.
We'd like to help you with your concern. Just to ask, what's the model of your device? Also, where do you normally save your photos, on the SD card or on the phone memory? If they're saved on the SD card, try removing and reinserting it before deleting the photos.
If the photos are on the phone memory, try rebooting it. If the battery is removable, try removing and reinserting it before restarting the device.
You may also try restoring the default phone settings. The steps will depend on your phone model.  Restoring the settings will not erase any of your files.
If you're using a Nokia s40 ( C3, X2, etc. ) or Asha device, check this link: Nokia S40 Restore default settings.
If you're using a Symbian or Nokia Belle phone, check this: Symbian - Nokia Belle restore original settings.
For Lumia WP8 devices with non-removable battery, press and hold the volume down and power keys until the phone reboots. For Lumia WP7.5, just hold down the power for 15 seconds to reboot it.
If your phone is supported by Nokia Suite try reinstalling the phone's software if restoring the settings won't work. Check the post of pavilion_alex at this link: how to reinstall firmwares with ovi suite?
You may also try using a PC to remove the images. Connect the phone to a PC via a compatible USB cable, and then open the Windows Explorer. Once the phone is detected, you'll be able to access and delete the contents of the phone and SD card.
Hope this information helps. Let us know if this has resolved your issue.
