Symbian 3 rmvb support

i am really satisfied with my nokia c6-01 but i dont know why it doesnt play smoothly rmvb files above cif resolution although it plays smoothly all other video formats up to 720p .
i want to know whether it is a hardware or software limitation and if it is software, could you fix it in the next software update?]

i didnt get any software but i sent them an email and they told me that they would forward my comments to the research and development center to see if they could include full rmvb support in the next software update
lets hope so

Symbian phone applicatiomns does not have any support anymore (ie. they are not working )
Such applications are World traveller, which can't update weather or currency in Finland anymore
Same is wirh Radio SuomiPOP application. You can't listen radio with it.
These problems are seen with E6, E7, N8, 808 and 700 Symbian smartphones.

    Symbian is abandoned.
The transition to windows phone has happened,
Imo, More importantly considering the fact: Scope of application development is vast with Windows phone.

  • IS SYMBIAN^1 UPGRADE TO SYMBIAN^3........????

    Hi, brother.
Yesterday I mailed to symbian about upgrading symbian^1 to Symbian^3. and I got replay today. And they are telling that if nokia want they can give symbian^3 to their symbian^1 customers. If it happens its next very good thing after MAPs.
If u interested in this topic then send a request mail to nokia for upgrading.
    What u say.........?

While i agree with chanchan05 observations, i think it's possible.... Symbian^3 supports ARM11 architecture.... it may not be practical nor reasonable to implement (not to mention cheap), even for a 'lite' version without some 'candies'...
However it would show that Nokia really cares about customers, X6, N97, 5530 and 5230 would be eligible as well for the update...
But i really doubt it that there will be any effort in that way by nokia's side.... if there was any plans in that way Nokia would just correct existing bugs instead of implement/enhance new features on current firmwares...
Because of the restrictive OS and IDE (however Qt Creator looks promising) i, as a programmer, give up of doing stuff for my phone (i actually did 3 small games and pseudo WRT plugin for Webkit) ... i would reconsider it if S^3 came to my phone... oh well...
We can always dream .... or hope that some crazy, highly skilled (and perhaps angry?) programmer finds a way to force it into...
5800xm on a blender ... will happen sooner than expected.... v51 is a failure as an update .... v52 just postponed its fate....

  • I'm new and I think I like it.

This is an unproductive fanboy-message (=spam), but I thought I could post it anyways
I didn't post this to "Arch is best" since I wouldn't say that Arch is the best. I just like it a lot, and wanted to share that
The point is: I like Arch.
My real Linux age started about 4 years ago with Gentoo. I used Mandrake and SuSE before Gentoo, but I don't count  that. With Gentoo, I started to understand operating systems in general, and it was the first time I ever had fun setting up and using an OS. I learned a bunch of things from that, Gentoo has real superb documentation after all. Back then, we guys doing stage 1 installs from a text-only live cd were considered "cool", today the Gentoo community considers us "ricers" or something.
I didn't do that for any speed benefit. I never felt any recognisable hyper speed with Gentoo in any way - I just liked the way you install it. Starting with the very base and then get everything you need.
Stage 1 in Gentoo meant that you even built the base system and the build tools yourself - this isn't supported anymore today. It didn't make much sense back then, but I found it totally cool to have my computer working on something real big while I'm at school.
Well, Gentoo had and has many benefits, but after 4 years, it lost it's "charm" for me. You have a LiveCD GUI installer, the packages aren't as up to date as they used to and I'm sort of sick of compiling something like KDE, which just takes too much time.
I'm not a student anymore, I am a programmer since two years and I need systems that does a job fast and reliable, since I have like a 12 hour day and there is certainly something better to do at home than to stare at compiler output.
One week ago, an old friend told me about Arch and I thought that I could give it a try. I'm just stunned. It brings back the Gentoo feeling of the old days and I feel like 17 again
The installation rocks - the guide is good and the whole process is very easy. The best thing is package configuration. Base only contains few and one can really pick only what he needs. The first thing I dropped was lilo along with wireless and pcmcia tools. I don't know how many of you guys have ever installed a debian and did the manual package selection. Remember dselect? After going through that, even a programmer would consider buying a mac. Archs ncurses selection is just good.
Okay, 20 minutes have passed and the system is installed. I booted.
Was a good feeling. A nice marked up sysvinit greeted me that bootet incredibly fast (like 10 seconds) and I had my login prompt. Now I was stuck - there was no greeting message pointing out some further documentation, and I didn't install links so I couldn't look up how to use pacman.
I have very bad experiences with man pages other than those of category 3 - totally bloated with useless GNU --something-nobody-will-ever-need-number-three options and impossible to extract information from when not unemployed. Info pages are even worse. I love Arch for not providing them. This is the worst idea GNU people have ever had.
But I had no choice other than rebooting Gentoo, and I dislike giving up. So I read the pacman manpage (the old friend told me it's name - otherwise I would have been stuck) - and I was surprised. It was really understandeable. So I fired it up, so see that the program even explains itself in a wonderful way.
So it was no problem to install links. I went to the wiki and followed the X11 howto.
Long speech short sense - I had X, windowmaker and firefox all in some minutes ready to go.
So I started reading the wiki with firefox in X. The next adventure would be to install KDE.
I've been using fvmw2 and fluxbox for the last three years, then went to gnome and began to hate it. Though KDE looks like kindergarten, I gave it another try and after some hours of kde-look.org browsing, I had it actually good looking. I love the playful cleverness you see everywhere. You can directly use kde-look.org as wallpapers from within the wallpaper selection dialog. KDE just has everything I need (and way more, but that can happily be deactivated ).
Okay, now I was frightened. Since KDE has so many components, I had a quick look for meta packages to make everything easier. I noticed that there are only the usual bundle packages, but no split ones. I was very happy when Gentoo introduced the KDE split ebuilds, but I don't care for arch not having them. Arch has no useflags, so I didn't care. I also don't care about 10 MB of disk "wasteage" with programs I will probably not use.
So I just got myself kdebase and startx'd it.
First thing to notice: Wow, this looks clean.
Second thing to notice: This sucks.
There were absolutely no programs in the K menu and clicking the home icon asked what application to start it with.
After a short board search, I found someone who had this problem some time ago.
He reinstalled kdebase - so did it.
    Relogin - everything works.
And THIS was clean. I just love the default K menu. I love the branding. I love everything about this. Have been using Kubuntu at work, but it just sucked. The Arch KDE is the most wonderful default KDE I've ever seen, so I didn't bother theming it for the first three days.
Beeing busy with desktop environments, I installed the newest nvidia driver and beryl. After deactivating some KDE effects, beryl works like a charm. NEVER did together with KDE with (K)Ubuntu or Gentoo on that box. Stunned. Happy. Okay, one bad thing: I don't see the logout screen - but since I use startx, there's only one option anyways.
Now it was time for the usual 64-bit multimedia trouble.
After adding the community repository, I looked up how to do it. My first mission was to view my favorite trailer (QuickTime mov). On the board, I saw that people use to install "codecs" for that, but I'm 64 bit, so I was unsure if it would work. Just installed kmplayer and codecs. It works. Wonderful. After that, I had to view youtube movies - another quest.
So it was time to finally use makepkg. I heard of it, I heard it was like Ports and I LOVE Ports. It really is like Ports. It is in a wonderful clever way very understandeable. Not comparable to the complicated ebuilds installing 20 patches at a time. I found the AUR page and all the two packages I needed for my flash nsplugin. Was easy to do. Works.
Now it was time to do the most distusting thing: view my favorite rmvb movies. rmvb sucks, I wasn't able to view it with something other than helix realplayer, and I never liked that software for not beeing able to use alsa. But I had to. It was relatively easy to locate realplayer for 64 bit in AUR. But there were dependencies having dependencies all only available via makepgk. So I had to download like 8 packages and figure out in what order to build and install them.
The last package - realplayer itself - had a problem. Helix changed their link. I manually downloaded realplayer and slightely changed the src= association in the PKGBUILD.
After that, I was able to compile and install it.
Starting it was a sad experienced - all the fonts where missing. Luckily, I knew how to control it blind. So disabling arts along with everything else that does sound made my new baked realplayer worked.
Okay, now I had everything I need and wanted to test the system for usability.
Setting up my design, manually branding my favorite icon theme for Arch. Setting everything up. I used konqueror to browse for my files and despite all my other kde experiences, the file associations are just what I expect. kmplayer opens all types of videos. During clicking all of my different video types, I accidentaly clicked one rmvb and kmplayer opened up.
What can I say - it WORKS! I don't know whether this is because mplayer can use original realplayers codec or because the codecs package has rmvb support, but I love it. Now I can view them with a good player.
You are doing a great job out there. Arch is what it should be: Light and clever wherever you look.
It was a very good idea to create pacman instead of using dpkg or rpm with all it's medievality.
You don't need a GUI installer, Arch is after all supposed for people who know a little UNIX.
You don't need to gain popularity - your community is great, the system is great.
In general, I feel like using a binary lfs here. This is a great feeling, it's the first time in a while that Linux meant fun to me.
Please do me one favor and stay how you are
This was probably the longest post in my live. I don't say Arch is best. There are some things I dislike. Some things I like more about other distros. Nothing is perfect - Arch is very close to that though. I just felt the need to thank you for that.

Mikko777 wrote:So what is the best?
I wouldn't judge. I've been to Arch for a week, you know? But as said, it's VERY close to it.
What I dislike after a week is makepkg not handling dependencies automatically (which would be overhead, so probably not appropriate).
Mikko777 wrote:Also theres KDEmod for modular kde, dunno if its for 64 bits tho.
Don't actually need that as said ... I see no real benefit of having that other than not beeing a KDE user or having Gentoos useflags.

  • Adobe flash player for vivaz pro

Hey, im looking for adobe flash player for vivaz pro. its symbian s60v5 so it should support it but i cant download it from adobe's website and i havent managed to find it elsewhere either.

Yes, that's because your phone already has flash lite installed--I'm guessing that the version from that link is probably the same as the one in your phone, despite it saying that it's version 4--or perhaps you have Flash lite version 4.0 already installed in your phone. Either way, Symbian only supports Flash lite (latest version being 4.0), so have a look here on this table  of OS vs type of compatible Adobe flash player:

  • Wanna add Nokia S60 emulators to WTK 2.5.1

    Hi, guys!
I installed the Nokia S60 3rd Edition SDK for Symbian OS, Supporting Feature Pack 2, for MIDP (Beta release) into the direcotry C:\S60 and its emulators works well with Netbeans IDE 5.5.1 with mobility pack.
Now I want to add the emulators from the Nokia S60 3rd Edition SDK to Sun Java Wireless Toolkit 2.5.1. I followed the instructions found in Sun Java Wireless Toolkit for CLDC User's Guide, cited below for convinience of reference:
"The procedure is usually to unpack or install the third party emulator, then copy its directory into toolkit\wtklib\devices (Windows) or into toolkit/wtklib/devices (Linux). The next time you run the toolkit, the emulator is available."
I copied the dirctory S60_3rd_MIDP_SDK_FP2_Beta from C:\S60\devices\S60_3rd_MIDP_SDK_FP2_Beta to the dirctory C:\WTK2.5.1\wtklib\devices. But I just can't find the S60 emulators in the WTK as I did in the NetBeans IDE.
Could anyone kindly tell me what's wrong with my settings? thanks a lot!

    Hello!
I live in Fla and I am goint to Brazil. Because this is the first time, I want be sure I will do the right thing: I have skype on my cell phone, i can buy credits to talk with my family and friends in Brazil and USA. I need to be in a place with WiFI and I just dial the number? How I shoud do? Sorry, I am a old lady and not smart at all with new " toys ". No roaming? Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi DaniaFlo2013!
Yes, you will need to be in a place where there is WiFi so that you can connect to Skype and then you just need to dial the number you want to call on the Skype dial pad. Make sure that you disable data connection from your provider to avoid roaming charges.
Please also take note that you will need Skype Credit or a subscription so that you can call normal phone numbers on Skype. You can view our subscriptions by visiting the link below and type the country you want to call on the "Find country" search box:
    http://www.skype.com/en/rates/
But if you are just calling another Skype user than it should be free.
Also, depending on what your phone is, you can choose the correct link below on how you can dial on the Skype dial pad:
    For iPhone:

    For Android:

  • Nokia N8 or E7? GMail Contacts Sync?

Hi, I'm planning to dump my Motorola Milestone because of terrible support from Motorola and it's **bleep** camera.
I've been looking many places for a replacement, but I'm not happy yet (iPhone never). So my new phone has basically two requirements:
1 - Excelent camera. I beleive N8 12 MP camera with Carl Zeiss lens will do what I need here.
2 - Contact syncing with GMail. One of the things I've found very useful in android is it's native contact sync with gmail contacts. It's never been easier to keep track of my contacts and manage them. I add a new contact on gmail, and quickly it syncs with my phone and I can already call my friend I added over from the internet. This is simply awesome. Besides, I don't want to have to export/import my contacts ever again. The process usually is not flawless and almost always it's a pain.  Does/Will Symbian^3 support contact binding to gmail? I don't want to use anything else. Is the format the same?
Now, I was thinking about getting the E7 because of the QWERTY physical keyboard. It makes my life so much easier/faster, I'd hate to come back to touch screen keyboards. The problem is that E7 aparently has lower hardware specs than N8. And it's camera does not have Carl Zeiss lens. Am I right?
I just wish N8 had a physical keyboard option, but I guess you can't have everything...
One last doubt. N8 does not support multi-touch right?
    Thanks and Regards,

  • Nokia Belle Australia

I'm really disappointed on how I (and everyone else this affects) have been treated by Nokia with regards to software updates. I know these are optional from Nokia, but this is par for the course in today's technological age if Nokia want to keep consumers from straying away.
I owned the disaster N97 which cost me over $1000 here in Australia which Nokia completely abandoned therefore abandoning N97 customers. If that wasn't bad enough, Nokia release an update for the mini once again disregarding the original - this left a very sour taste in my mouth. I did however go and buy a N8, thinking that this should be all good, considering the re-writing of Symbian to support touch screen devices. Anna upgrade was good, although the rollout was disatrous (common theme here???).
This brings me to Belle. The long awaited overhaul which Symbian should have been long before now. After waiting since I personally heard about this planned update I though, great, this will do me until its time to upgrade again. Then the bombshell: No planned update for Australia due to technical difficulties. Whoever decided this within Nokia should be sacked immediately. Then the greatest backflip: We are please to see the interest......etc. Now it's coming (or is it??)
In today's mammoth technological age, software updates should be accessible, easy, routine and above all else, informative. Nokia's apparent policy on "tell the punters as little as possible" is plainly not good enough. If one person or many (as in this forum) asks about a software update for whatever device, a simple enough answer should be given; not a generic response, one that Nokia is now unfortunately famous for.
Nokia, it's time for a massive change in policy with regards to how you communicate software updates, much like the massive change in direction you forced on consumers when it was announced that Nokia was partnering with Windows Phone (in my opinion because of Nokia's complete inability to wake up and invest properly in Symbian).
I for one, am really p****d off about the extra wait we here in Australia have to endure for the Belle update. Answers need to be given about this: cue in Skyee or Kerttu. Not generic answers, real answers about what exactly is going on and why it's taking so long. I have also read about missing features/widgets from the current release of Belle - I can definately say that I'm not surprised to see things like this occur with a Nokia software update. It's also disappointing that these things happening are becoming par for the course with Nokia, again without any communication to the customers. It is my very strong opinion that Belle for generic N8, E7 etc handsets should be released asap, with the Carriers firmware coming as soon as practicably possible. Look towards the Canadian example if any doubts exist.
Nokia Australia seem to be highly dysfunctional and disorganised and to me, look like a rogue element of Nokia. If I were Elop, I would be prioritising the overhaul of Nokia Australia, personally apologising to the Australian customers and fast tracking the Belle update with full transparency.
In terms of updating, I like the Nokia 808 but I will not be buying one (and won't be surprised if it's not released in Aus) and not only that, Nokia have now lost me as a customer due to the Belle **bleep** up in Australia. The Lumia range does not interest me in the slightest and furthermore, Nokia Australia's descision to release the 710 and 800 is a joke, considering that the push towards LTE connectivity is now happening. Undoubtedly, Nokia will release a Lumia phone capable of LTE connectivity, which then make the 710 and 800 obselete; they'll do it in Nokia Australia style, sell you a 710 or 800, then release the LTE phone a month or so later.
So what has Nokia got to look forward to? In my opinion, a loss of customers here in Australia and a reputation not deserving of what Nokia could have been capable of. All you have to do is look at how many Nokia handsets are sold via Carriers now: not many.
Anyhow, that is the end of my rant, thanks for reading.
PS: responses from Nokia would be grand (not holding my breath though).
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Couple of things I would like to say here. You are absolutley correct about the lumia 710,800, they do have a lumia with LTE, called the lumia 900. And for whatever ridiculous idea they have made this phone for the USA and canada only. But to me this just goes to show how far behind and out of touch Nokia are to Australia and the carriers, With all carriers now having 4G LTE services running and most capital cities already covered along with some regional areas, Why would you even bother to dump a phone on to this market that is not 4g LTE compatible, if you are out to make sales.
The other thing that i would like to mention this time in defence of nokia australia, the belle incident was not of their doing in the beginning. Nokia Australia are run by Nokia asia, who tell Nokia Aust only what they want them to be told. It was Nokia australia that had to take our angry calls initially, and did the right thing by recording our comments and making sure that the people who make the decision found out how displeased we were. Having said that the Nokia department that made the discriminative decision should be ashamed of themselves, and if you were to make this kind of mistake in the company i work for, you would have all been sacked on the spot. Obviously your bosses are tolerant of mistakes like this, pity you didnt show us tolerance when you discrimated against the whole country. Oh just so you know discrimation in this country by any person or business is illegal and punishable by the courts
In todays society a simple answer to a question is considered politeness, but when you refuse to answer that is down right rude and ignorant and arrogant. It is also a form of discrimation again.
Mr Elop, if you want your company to survive and start to make a real change to make it an efficient, effective, profitable company that it deserves to be then start to talk to us, find out for yourself what is going on in the other countries. Theres more to whole than just those places in the northern hemisphere. I challenge you to jump on the forum here and read some of the post and them PM some of us and ask us what we expect as customers. you might be surprised at the sensible, realistic responces you get. Ask us things like why we buy Nokia phones, what is it we like and dont like about the company and the way we are dealt with.
Oh and by the way, speed is not everything when it comes to a phone. I read the articles about the lumia contest in India. its what the phones do, that truely counts. Given a test a lumia against the E7, to see who could make a video call faster. The E7 will win everytime, due to the fact that the lumia 610,710,800 are all so far behind the times it cant even make a video call, something my old E90 could do, which was released some 5 years ago.
Whats so hard about saying "we are writing the australian version now" or maybe "we have finished writing belle for australia and are now in house testing". These sort of answers to our question are not going to jeapardise any form of secrets that might given a rival any information that they shouldnt have. It might however show them that you are a responsible company who cares about customer satisfaction and customer service. It might even make show them up as being bad at custoemr service. Right now however the only thing you are showing is how much better they are at customer service.
You need to change this, if you want to be the best again, you can be, just continue to build quality phones and learn how to provide customer service, its all about the conversation you have with your customers that will inspire confidence and respect from your customers. And this will then increase sales. you will never make it just by making good phones alone, you need that customer service side of it as well. Right now you have none

  • Will application for J2ME MIDP2.0 of device "A" run on PalmOS device "B"

    Hi, all
If I have two devices (Symbian OS) supported J2ME MIDP 2.0 say "A" and "B".
    1. If I create a application for devices A will it run on device B.
    2. Will this application run those device based on PLAM OS.
    3. Will this application can communicate with USB, IR, Bluetooth etc.
Pls give a list of paltform a J2ME MIDP supported.
    thanks in advance
    Nisha Dixit

    1. If I create a application for devices A will it run on device B.If the runtime on device B is not too buggy and you take care of different display-sized it should works.
    2. Will this application run those device based on PLAM OS.if this PalmeOS device also has a MIDP2 runtime it should work too.
If you limit your self to MIDP1 the chance is greater to find a compatible device.
    3. Will this application can communicate with USB, IR, Bluetooth etc.Well, I don't know if it will, if you let it to it maybe will ;-)
This is done through extensions to CLCD the device must support..
I would recommend surfing a bit through the net, there are tons of sites that will help you finding your information.

  • Can Nokia 6233 say the Caller's Name?

I have a friend who uses N80 and whenever someone calls her, her phone can say the caller's name. I wanted to know wether it works with my one, 6233, too, coz i think its a really cool feature and i love it. Or is it only possible for phones with symbian, like her one?

So far only the newer symbian phones support this feature.

Well the Nokia "Store" seems to think that the Nokia 500 has "NFC SUPPORT"... Please take a look at this link:
It clearly states there the folllowing:
     - "Simply perform the NFC handshake with another Nokia 500, 600 or 700 to unlock content."
So I don't know if whoever posted it up was trying to mislead people who own the Nokia 500 into buying their application and make them think that the software will "enable" NFC on the device.... Or just a "typo"?
It probably was a marketing strategy..... "me thinks"...
