Symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libxml2.so.2: undefined symbol: gzopen64

I'm trying to use mysql-query-browser and I keep getting this error:
symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libxml2.so.2: undefined symbol: gzopen64
Some searching in the forum shows that people previously fixed this by updating libxml2 and zlib.  I have done so and even changed my mirror to the arch ftp but continue to get the same result.
mysql-query-browser was working for me last week, I probably did a pacman -Syu and maybe something broke?  Does anyone know of a solutin to this?

After a ton of searching online I found that in the /usr/lib directory is a problematic libz.so.1. In my case I have a symbolic link to libz.so.1.2.3.4. The sym link seemed correct to me, but I deleted the sym link and linked it again which fixed the problem.  mysql-query-browser works again from the CLI. It doesn't work from the start menu.
I have to do this everytime I restart my computer and want t ouse mysql-query-browser. Not sure why and it's annoying, but it's a workaround.

    I'm pretty sure Arch didn't use faac2 ,  i can hack it by recompiling FFMPEG with faac2  but this is a small problem, arch should just go and fix this little annoy bug.

  • Symbol lookup error /usr/lib/libXi.so.6

    Dear All,
    After a recent update, I have problems with libXi. I get the following error while trying to plot something with gnuplot:
    gnuplot: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libXi.so.6: undefined symbol: XESetWireToEventCookie.
    I get a similar error when trying to run a java application:
    java: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libXi.so.6: undefined symbol: XESetWireToEventCookie
    Something looks broken. I tried downgrading libXi to the previous version 1.3.2-1:
    pacman -U libxi-1.3.2-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz
    but that didn't help. I'm now back on version 1.4.0-1
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. This is my first post to this forum so bare with me. I've been a gentoo user for quite sometime but I'm trying a binary distro for obvious reasons.
    This also looks like a bug for I haven't done anything strange. This is a newish installation and all I do every week or so is pacman -Syu as suggested in the beginner handbook. I'm surprised no one else has posted this problem... is it really just me?. There are some old post on this issue but there was no solution there other than downgrading which I have already tried.
    I've just realized that not even okular works!!! Why am I being punished?
    okular: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libXi.so.6: undefined symbol: XESetWireToEventCookie
    Thanks.

    hey,
    I've installed quartus II today too and ran into similiar conflicts. I build version 1.2.1 of libxi again as suggested by davidgurvich, but "tricked out" pacman to avoid rebuilding the whole xorg packages, which depend on  libxi>=1.3:
    pkgname=libxi
    pkgver=1.3
    pkgrel=2
    realver=1.2.1
    pkgdesc="X11 Input extension library"
    arch=('i686' 'x86_64')
    url="http://xorg.freedesktop.org"
    depends=('libxext>=1.1' 'inputproto>=2.0')
    makedepends=('pkgconfig')
    options=(!libtool force)
    license=('custom')
    source=(${url}/releases/individual/lib/libXi-${realver}.tar.bz2)
    md5sums=('cfb36307e8e7ffafe40848dba24e0b11')
    build() {
    cd "${srcdir}/libXi-${realver}"
    ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --disable-static || return 1
    make || return 1
    make DESTDIR="${pkgdir}" install || return 1
    install -m755 -d "${pkgdir}/usr/share/licenses/${pkgname}"
    install -m644 COPYING "${pkgdir}/usr/share/licenses/${pkgname}/" || return 1
    works for me... however, this is a dirty solution. maybe someone provide a better fix.

  • SOLVED Symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libpangocairo-1.0.so.0:

    Hi: It is my first post on archlinux forums. I have a problem with libpango. When I start openbox session (With slim or startx it's the same), give me the error: Symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libpangocairo-1.0.so.0: undefined symbol: g_object_replace_qdata . The crash sucesed then the latest update.
    Already tried several alternatives (install pangox-compat, reinstall pango, etc.) and no luck.
    I installed pekwm and the WM is started, but i can't execute apps what depend of libpangocairo
    Any idea?
    ¡Cheers!

  • KDE Dolphin: /usr/lib/libkdeui.so.5: undefined symbol: _ZN10QTableView

    I got something weird.
    When I start Dolphin via the Run dialog (ALT-F2), Dolphin starts without any problem.
    However, when I start Dolphin via the Konsole window, I get the following error:
    dolphin: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libkdeui.so.5: undefined symbol: _ZN10QTableView13doItemsLayoutEv
    And Dolphin won't start.
    I enter in the Konsole window just the word "dolphin" (without the quotes) to start Dolphin.
    Does anyone have an explanation for this ?

  • Gdmsetup: symbol lookup error

    hi!
    im a archlinux newbi, but already like it a lot. i installed it on the acer aspire one (thx to wiki article) and most of the things work just fine.
    i got xfce up and running, including the gdm, which has a ugly theme out of the box. so i want to change it with gdmsetup but it doesnt work:
    gdmsetup: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libxml2.so.2: undefined symbol: gzopen64
    i tried tu update libxml2, but pacman sayz it is already the newest version
    thanks in advance

    solved; there is an old version of libxml2 in the pacman repository. downloading the latest source make;make install and everything worked fine.
    flagged libxml2 outdated

    And yes, i've carefully read article about signing packages, pacman key was initialized and keyring also was populated.
    Successfully resolved problem by adding globally SigLevel = Never and commenting out SigLevel = PackageRequired. Yes, I understand that this is bad idea, but i've found no other way to resolve it.
    Then pacman Syu finished succesfully. After that i've turned signature check back. It works.
    P.S.: my bad, it seems that i accidently used 2010.05 old iso to install arch. And as too many core changes came into distro, (initscripts, filestystem force, etc), pacman Syu failed over and over.

  • Reader quits with symbol lookup error

    On my SLED 11.3 system, Reader 9.4.3 quits with
    /usr/bin/acroread: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libXi.so.6: undefined symbol: XESetWireToEventCookie
    But libXi is installed.
    Any ideas?

    Well, if I remove the libclearlooks.so file, Hydrogen starts. It throws these lot of these warnings:
    (hydrogen:1652): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "clearlooks",
    I also tried recompiling from ABS, but got:
    Install directory: "data/img" as "/tmp/hydrogen/pkg/usr/share/hydrogen/data/img"
    scons: *** [/tmp/hydrogen/pkg/usr/share/hydrogen/data/img/gray] /tmp/hydrogen/pkg/usr/share/hydrogen/data/img/gray: File exists
    Compiling from AUR (svn package) works, but throws the same error.
    I have opened a thread on the Hydrogen forums: http://hydrogen.popez.org/hcms/node/1939

  • Xterm: symbol lookup error

    Hello,
    since a reboot on Saturday my GUI won't start anymore. If I type in startx I get the following error twice and than the X Server shuts down:
    xterm: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libSM.so.6 undefined symbol: _IcePoMagicCookie1Proc
    If I should post the Xorg Log tell me, at the moment I can't open it.
    Sorry for my bad English but i'm German

    You got the same Error? And since one of the last updates too?
    I also reinstalled libsm, and tried nouveau instead of the proprietary nvidia driver but also without success.
    Good to know that I'm not the only one
    Yes, since the last update the problem occured. Also tried to reinstall xterm but it didn't work either.
    Noticed btw that xterm is flagged out-of-date on 2010-10-23.

    It is solved.
    I remember that I installed Mathematica and changed the path of library in .bashrc:
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/mathematica/SystemFiles/Libraries/Linux-x86-64:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    There may be some conflict. When I change it to
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/opt/mathematica/SystemFiles/Libraries/Linux-x86-64
    Everything is OK.
