Symbol speech recognition program appears on desktop when starting parallels

Hello,
when I start parallels, the symbol of the voice recognition program appears on the desktop. I can't remove this symbol from the desktop. Doubleclick only moves the symbol from the desktop to the dock.
I checked the system setup "speech" of my mac:
"voice/speech recognition" and "voice over" are deactivated. So it seems that the setups of windows XP operating system and/or parallels (working tools) are causing this.
How can I remove this symbol? It' s annoying.

I found it. The parallels settings are linked with the systemsettings on the Mac. So I looked at: Parallels > settings > enhanced > speech > deactivate spoken commands.

I know, this is the "normal" way to remove a symbol from the dock. Using only snow leopard, there is no problem. But: when I start parallels (and windows XP operating system) on my macbook, the symbol appears on the desktop. If I doubleclick, the symbol moves to the Dock. If I click and hold on the Dock icon, there is only 1 option (open speech recognition) instead of 2 options (open and options for example remove from dock).

Does anyone know of a good speech recognition program for Mountain Lion?

I purchased a speech recognition program in 2008, MacSpeech Dictate. I only used it for a short period of time, but problems with my hands have started up again. MacSpeech Dictate does not work on OS X 10.8. I wondered if there are any speech recognition programs available for this operating system? i found "Dragon Express" in the App store, but it was rated low, and apparently crashes with 10.8. I cannot beieve that Apple would forget about those with disabilities. I have activated the speech commands window and have experimented with it, but it seems limited for browsing the web. I wondered if there was a way to create my own commands using the Speech Command application in Mountian Lion? Any ideas anyone? Have I missed something with Speech Commands on 10.8?

The built in dictation is pretty good. The only real downside is that the conversion is done server-side so you have to dictate, then wait a bit, and then dictate, and then wait a bit.
The gold standard is dragon dictate. I think it's a few hundred bucks but it's fantastic software. I belive the Nuance engine underneath it is used by the Mountain Lion dictation feature, though.

Firefox does not appear on screen when started from the start menu, but task manager says the process is running

Firefox does not appear on screen when started from the start menu or the shortcuts, but task manager says the process is running.

No - I get the message basically saying "Can't run program while Firefox is running. Please close down Firefox & try again".
I rebooted my computer and it all works now - but that's weird it was happening before. Kinda weirded out that it happened at all.

Thank you brad805 for the reply. I suspected that was the case. A much earlier version of iTunes did place an icon on the desktop when the iPhone was attached. It does appear in iTunes as you indicated as well as in a virus protection application I have recently installed.

Program cannot crash immediately when start

Hi,
Recently, I upgraded my snowleopard to 10.6.3, then started my football manager 2010. It crashed, giving me this below report. Reinstalled and the same thing happened. I tried another program. The SIMS3, and the same thing happen (Unexpected Error, but no report given.)
Anyone have a solution or encountered such problems?

Your Mac's Logs and Crash reports (like your post) are the usual way system errors are revealed.
For hardware "system errors," unless you have already used Apple Hardware Test to
test DaddyPaycheck's RAM suggestion, check your RAM now, even though you have not
recently added RAM.
In my experience, AHT usually does not find existing problems, so the fact that it reports
no trouble does not meant that there is no problem. However, AHT once found bad RAM for me
that had been working for a couple of years, so it is worth trying.
If you need help, instructions for using AHT are in the User Guide manual that came with
your Mac. Follow the instructions carefully.

How do I get rid of annoying email preview appearing on desktop when incoming email received?

I have an annoying preview of the latest incoming email appearing on my desktop. I can get rid of it by selecting an icon at the bottom of the form. I can't find anything in Mail preferences.

Multiple finder window piling up on desktop when starting computer

Anybody knows what to do: At start-up, a pile of finder windows appear on the desktop one above the other, in the middle of the screen. When I press the option key and I click to close the top window, they all disappear. At next start-up they all come back together. Actions taken: Repair permissions, run Cocktail manager (all clean-up actions + scripts), ...

Getting Error: Invalid configuration. Terminating the Palm Desktop when starting Palm Desktop 6.2 by Access

I have recently gotten the error noted in the subject line on my Tungsten E2 whenever I double-click the Palm Desktop icon. Once I click the OK button I am returned to the desktop without entering the program. I have installed the program and reinstalled the download from the Palm website several times (as recommended in a number of older posts) with the same results. I have also checked to see that the User Account Control is turned on (which it is), as recommended in other older posts.
My workaround was simply to run the program as an administrator and I was able to successfully enter it. In addition I had to manually create the user folder in the Palm Desktop folder. Everything now works OK as long as I run the program as an administrator.
Has anyone found a solution that does not require running Palm Desktop as an administrator?

My experience with Palm leads me to believe that if you are running Windows XP Pro (32 bit version), you should be able to use the older version 4.1.4 Palm Desktop. See the link: http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/na/tungsten/e2/unlocked/solutions/article/37014_en.html

I used the above Palm Desktop on an older desktop PC I had that ran Windows XP Home. The only reason I switched is that I began using a laptop that ran Vista which required Palm Desktop 6.
If however you are running a Windows XP Pro (64 bit version), you may need the Palm Desktop 6.2 that you already have (on this I am not sure).

As far as User Account Control (UAC) is concerned it is more formalized with Vista, however a form is available under XP.

Emails appear as unread when starting up Outlook 2013

I have a 365 account with 4 email accounts on it, one email address on that account is running office 2013.
When we start Outlook each morning, all the emails appear in it but are already marked as unread.
The account is not linked to any phone and has no folder rules applied.
Any new emails that arrive during the normal day activities are marked as unread. The other 3 addresses are fine.
Any suggestions?

Changing application position on desktop when starting application

Is there a way to change the screen position of an application when I am starting the application? Every time I open QuickTime, it starts in the upper left corner.
Even after moving and closing the application it starts up in the upper left corner again.

Settings like this are generally application dependent - that is, you can do it if the application gives you some kind of control over default window positions. Most don't, since the standard is for the upper-left corner. There's no easy way around this

"System Extension cannot be used" when starting Parallels

I'm using Parallels Desktop 4.0 to provide a platform for Windows XP on my MacBook. It works very well, but since a recent update of the package, I have been getting a message on startup which says:
"System extension cannot be used
The system extension "/Library/Filesystems/fusefs.fs/Support/fusefs.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an update."
I see from other discussions in this forum that this type of warning sometimes appears, but what does it mean generically - does anyone know? So far Parallels support has suggested a couple of things including reloading MacFUSE which I'd never heard of, but they are now suggesting it's a Mac OS problem. Could it be? I need some kind of steer as to what this means and what could have caused it

Sorry, but what do you mean by "default brower". Do you mean a web browser? When and under what circumstances is this happening? More details will be necessary before anyone will be likely to be able to offer suggestions.
BTW, it is generally considered inappropriate to type all in uppercase letters in Internet discussions, as text that is typed all in uppercase is by convention considered to be shouting. Uppercase is also more difficult to read, so please use all uppercase sparingly and only when you really mean to shout, which we hope you won’t need to do here .
