Symbol Std with FM?

In a thread a while back, Harald Brandt mentioned that Symbol Std was installed with FM 8. Does anybody know if it's also installed with FM 9 or Acrobat Pro 9?
I'm trying to troubleshoot somebody else's FM9 install, but I don't want to have to reinstall mine in order to figure out if it does in fact come with Symbol Std.
My file is dated Aug 2003, so I don't think mine came with FM 8 or 9.

Symbol versus Symbol Std

Since FM8, I use Unicode fonts since it's the only sensible way for multilingual documents. Also, I use Adobe Pi Std for special graphical symbols instead of Wingdings or type 1 Dingbats etc, since it is Unicode and installed with FM8, which makes it much more robust and safe than using encoding in the ascii range. Likewise, Courier Std is used instead of Courier.
However, Symbol is special in FM: I considered to switch to Symbol Std, since it is also installed by FM8, and is a Unicode-only font. However, for equations, FM still uses regular Symbol rather than Symbol Std! This cannot be changed, despite Symbol Std is in the standard FM directory (fminit/fonts/adobe)! This speaks for continuing to use Symbol rather than going for Symbol Std. (Tested by making a PDF and then checking the fonts.) On the other hand, when I copy from a PDF-saved version of the file and paste into FM, a character that used regular Symbol becomes encoded in the Unicode range (above ascii) when pasted into FM (thus requiring Symbol Std instead of Symbol). This latter behavior speaks for using Symbol Std whenever possible, but if so, the PDF file may very well embed BOTH Symbol versions if I have both an equation and some symbols, and this mix seems inelegant to me.
I am interested in hearing other's view on this.
FYI: As for distilling into PDF, I always have the 'Adobe PDF Printing Preferences' set to always include fonts when generating postscript, since not doing this will often crash FM, no matter what fonts you use. A well-known issue with FM since many versions.

The font definitions for the equation characters are all stored in the
\fminit\mathchar.cfg file. You can swap out the Symbol if you wish.
Just make a backup copy of this file before you start changing it. ;-)

"no" symbol issues with itunes 10.5 (can't drag music into itunes)

When I first downloaded itunes 10.5 I was having issues clicking on the different topics on the left hand side
such as movies, music, etc, i'd ALWAYS get a "no symbol" (circle with a line through it), but when I right clicked it worked
I downloaded something someone said on here and everytime I boot up Itunes it ask yes or no if I wanna run itunes....
But today for some reason, it won't let me drag my music from my music file to itunes, gives me the same no symbol
I download from the same site (youtube), and my music file there is nothing wrong with the file codes as I tried adding old songs too and got the same symbol
any thoughts? really disliking 10.5 right now

RDP Port not Listen in Windows Server 2008 Std With Sp2

I have Windows 2008 Server Std with SP2 Domain Member Server.. From Last week On-wards , am not able to take remote desktop control .. But i can able to Ping my Server from network .. I check remote settings on that server.. It
is enabled.. and also remote desktop service(Terminal service) was started successfully.. I checked my network firewall for port(3389) blocking.. But there is no much block in my network firewall.. i also disabled windows firewall in my server.. But
still i couldn't able to take RDP.. I also checked my Domain GPO and Local GPO settings for RDP Block.. But there is no such settings enabled. I did following Troubleshooting Steps, but still the problem persist
1. Telnet serverip 3389
Result : Could not open connection to the host, on port 3389:
2. netstat -n -a -o | find "3389" (i run this command in my RDP Problem server)
Result : nothing displayed (3389 port not listed )
3. i again & again restarted Terminal service and the server, but still problem exists
4.i changed the RDP port no and restarted the service as well as the server , but still problem exist
5. I checked all RDP related Registry settings , everything is perfect
Please help me to solve this issue

You mention, that you the server is not listening to port 3389 when you run netstat. This is the reason why telnet and RDP connectivity fails in a first place. You also said that you changed the RDP port number. What was is before the change, and to what
did you change it to?
Please verify if the Terminal Service is listening to 3389 (0xd3d) with following command:
reg query "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp" /v PortNumber
Output:
PortNumber REG_DWORD 0xd3d
Try to enable the Operational log for TerminalServices-RemoteConnectionManager events in Event Viewer:
Open Event Viewer
Navigate to Applications and Service Logs\Microsoft\Windows\TerminalServices-RemoteConnectionManager
Select the Operational log and chose Enable Log
from the Action or context menu
Restart Terminal Services service
Then consult this event log and the System and Application logs for any related errors and warning. It might be helpful to post relevant event log entries here.

Something is messed up with the Disk.

Replace symbolic links with actual file

Hello everybody,
I have recently decided to move my seven iPhoto collections from an old external drive with insufficient capacity to a new bigger one. We talk some 50.000+ photos. Up to a couple of years ago, I had decided NOT to let iPhoto import the photos into its internal library, but I left the originals in a distinct directory external to the iPhoto package.
Moving the iPhoto packages from the old to the new disk, I ran into a problem with the links to this external directory once I had retired the old external drive … because all links to the external originals broke.
Here an example:
- The old drive is called MOBIL
- The new drive is called Photos
In the directory /Volumes/Photos/iPhoto Library 1999 - 2002/Masters/2000/ESRIN, I find a symbolic link named:
/Volumes/Photos/iPhoto Library 1999 - 2002/Masters/2000/ESRIN/DCP_0211.JPG
In a terminal session this file is: -rw-rw-rw-@ 1 js 0 29 Okt 2006 DCP_0211.JPG
The original is correctly reported as /Volumes/MOBIL/Eigene Bilder - Jurgen/Fotos/2000/09 September/ESRIN/DCP_0211.JPG
Of course, iPhoto does not find the original once I remove the volume MOBIL.
I see two possible solutions to this issue:
1. Replace the broken symbolic link /Volumes/MOBIL/... with the new one /Volumes/Photos
2. Replace the symbolic link with the actual file, i.e., copy each file from MOBIL to Photos (I don't care about the additional disk space used by this)
I'd prefer solution 2 but my UNIX knowledge is not sufficient to automate this task - we are talking hundreds of directories and thousands of files …
Any idea ho to achieve the above ? Any utility around ? Any other idea ?

I believe that /Volumes normally contains a single symbolic link to the boot volume, and that all the other items there are not true symbolic links but are rather "mount points" which are managed dynamically by the system. Try running
ls -l /Volumes
in Terminal and you will see that all the items except for the boot volume show up as directories, and that only the boot volume item is a symbolic link. When you look at /Volumes in Finder (via Go To Folder) , the mount point icons have curved "alias" arrows and are labeled "alias", similar to symbolic links, but they are different entities.
With respect to the iPhoto paths, if you still have the old drive I think I would try cloning it to the new one so that the contents of the new drive are identical, disconnecting the old drive, and then renaming the new drive to match the name of the old drive. Then launch iPhoto and see if it finds everything.

I have mac os x 10.8 but i cant download firefox 17, i get the firsfox symbol, but with a line through it, how do i download firefox 17?

first i got a popup that said my current version of firefox had a security problem, so i deleted firefox and tried to download firefox 17.0. it said my mac operating system wont support this download. i got a firefox symbol but with a line through it. i confirmed that i have mac os 10.8, so it should be supported. did i miss something in the process? can anyone help?

Embedded symbol communicate with main timeline.

hello one and all,
i am creating a survey with say 7 questions. each question has the same MovieClip symbol each with a different instance name, like q1, q2, ... q7.
the MovieClip symbol has 5 static texts and 5 SimpleButtons. i have some code in that symbol to make sure that only a single button has the "on" or "checked" state to show that that one is chosen. this works great.
my question is, how do i communicate each user choice with the main timeline after the user hits the "submit" button? or, how do i have code under the "submit" mousedown event that can iterate through the 7 symbols to query each one and see which of the 5 SimpleButtons is "checked" or "on". this iteration will then create a list of responses for all 7 questions.
ultimately, i will have flash concatenate a GET POST string that will send the survey results to a web server.
i am using/learning AS3 under flash cs4 and i know that i am somewhat new to these concepts. thank you in advance and if you could point me to a tutorial video that will support your guidance, that would be helpful also. happy new year.

In the rarest form, every sprite or movieClip is an object and any class that is dynamic which in this case movieClip and object are, has enumerable properties.
Enumerable properties can be accessed via ways of for( var prop:* in obj){} or for each . This is a way to traverse properties. That is because they are in an object.
If i created an object= new Object()
object.name='bob'
i can access this variable name as thus trace(object.name) or i could say object['name'] which treats the object as if it were a hash table with a key as a string to a look up table.
this can not be done for properties that are not public. and works best on dynamic classes.
In this case your movieClip is just that and the this, refers to the scope of the object that holds the property name. you can not use an accessor method without specifying a target.

How to adress a symbol created with sym.createChildSymbol

I want to create a symbol (as a MovieClip) when I click a button and I want to load into that symbol a Edge Composition.
This is my code:

That is the way I FOUND in Edge to try work as I would with Flash, loading differents swfs.
It is not working.
The console gives me that error :

After I correctly loaded my composition into pageContent, I try to put the pageContent somewhere in my page.

It does not work . I have this error :

Is it legal to use one of the symbols included with adobe illustrator cc in the logo for my company ?

I am currently designing a logo for my website/company using illustrator CC . Can i use symbols and put them in the logo for my company ? Is that legal ?

My inclination as just another user would be of course you can use Adobe-supplied content with your own projects, otherwise why would they give you content.

IPad WiFi Connection Problems - WiFi Symbol Appears With Full Bars but I Don't Get A Checkmark?

I was using the iPad one day and then all of a sudden it stopped connecting to the internet. The network at this hotel is very good and I've asked them about their router so it is not the router's problem.
I go to the Settings and tap on Wi-Fi then I tap on the hotel network. After a few seconds, it says the network name beside the Wi-Fi tab and it gives me the WiFi symbol showing 3 bars. But then I never get the checkmark or tick saying everything is connected. I try going online and it says the iPad is not connected to the internet. I've tried an iPhone and it connected and got a checkmark in a few seconds. I've talked to the front desk and he took out his phone and showed me that he could connect, he even opened a page without any problems at all.
I've been trying to find a solution for this for a long time. I've been searching Google over and over again. I turned Airplane Mode on for 1 minute, I've tried Resetting my Network settings, I've tried forgetting the network and reconnecting again, I've tried removing all restrictions from the iPad, I've rebooted the iPad A LOT, etc.
So this is my problem for people who don't want to read the whole message:
1. I can't connect to the internet with the iPad
2. It shows the WiFi symbol saying its connected but I never get the checkmark or tick.
3. It's not the router problem.
4. I've tried other networks and it doesn't work. It just keeps on showing that loading circle right beside the network name.
5. Do any of you know what this problem is? Or do you have a solution?

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

I'm trying to play Symbol A and it's nested Symbol B and C with one button, and play Symbol B and C without playing Symbol A with a second button...

I can't seem to get the nested symbol to play without it's parent playing too.
This works for getting both symbols to play on button 1

Everything I've done to play just B and C play all three. Is what I'm trying to do even possible?

This works now to play all three from one button. With a different button, I want to play just the nested "online" and "promotions", plus add an completely new animation to both. All without effecting the animation in "marketing_buttons".
