why those symbols at back are not as all iphone were? is my iphone fake or what? i bought it here in macedonia in mobile store!

Port symbols on back panel

What do the different symbols on the back panel of an iMac G5 (pre-Intel) represent? I'm assuming that the first three from left to right are USB ports (the symbol that looks like a leaf) and the next two are Firewire ports (the symbol with a circle and two lines under it) In the USB three ports I have a computer keyboard, a musical keyboard, and a mouse. The next port has a Firewire 400 connection for an external hard drive and next to it there is another Firewire port, then the internet connection which has an arrow that points left and right. The last port has a square with one line on each side of it. What is this for? I want to connect a USB mic. Do I need a hub to have more USB ports? Are they prblematic in any way?

That extra port is the Mini VGA/Video out port. You can buy VGA, S-Video or Composite Video output adaptors from Apple for around $19.

You'll need a USB hub to add more devices... ...actually why not move the mouse to one of the USB ports on the back of the keyboard (it has a USB1.1 hub built in).

CS4: How can I keep a scaled Symbol from returning to 100% when I edit it?

I have several instances of a symbol on my artboard. Each of these instances have different scales/sizes. I'm trying to edit one of the larger instances by double-clicking it and entering isolation mode, so that I can make some minor adjustments to the positioning of the objects and paths within that symbol so that it's not covering my other content. However, as soon as I do this, the symbol "shrinks" back down to its small original size... which makes it almost impossible to judge what the symbol will look like, because as soon as I exit isolation mode, it'll return to the larger size and then visually I can see if I guessed right.
Example, I have a "TREES" symbol. Within the TREES symbol, there are 3 individual tree shapes. I want to move the right tree a little farther right, but not too far right, because it'll cover some other content. However, as soon as I double-click the TREES symbol to edit it, the symbol shrinks so now, I can't really tell how far I need to more the right tree. Is there a preference, or a method of creating a symbol to keep it from doing this when I try and edit it?
Also, I noticed, in the above example, as I move the tree to the right, when I exit isolation mode, it appears that the entire symbol has changed position... so now the other trees aren't in the same place (visually) that they were before. It seems as though Illustrator has centered ALL the trees in the symbol, instead of leaving the left 2 trees alone and just moving the right tree farther right. (Completely opposite of the way Flash edits symbols) Is there a way to keep this from happening as well?

If I convert (break) the symbol instance into a normal group, then any changes I make to that instance will not be reflected in the other instances that have been placed in different areas of the artboard.

The toolbar with drop-down menus such as, "File" and "History" has disappeared, how do I get it back?

So I can't access history or anything. Above the tabs, there are the symbols with back and refresh, and the address and the search, but above that its just the blue thing. Please help!

Using the + symbol in XML

Hello all,
I am having a small problem with an external XML file. I
can't seem to get the + symbol to work in XML files or in text
files. OK, let me back up a second, I know how to use the + symbol
in the text file by encoding it with %2B, but I'd like to find a
way to make it easier for the copywriter to edit the files. Saving
as Unicode-8 only works with odd characters like ä etc, not
with all symbols.
Back to my mail problem. I can't figure out a way to use the
+ at all in the XML file I am using for the news ticker. I have
tried embedding the text in a CDATA tag, but it doesn't seem to do
anything and am not sure I am parsing it correctly. The text shows
up fine, just sans the symbols I need. Here's a brief segment of
the XML parser I am using:

Try saving it in UTF-8, and also add encoding info to the
xml:

Greek/math symbols do not display in Lion though working correctly in Snow Leopard.

I am attempting to edit/use powerpoint presentations created in Office 2011 on Snow Leopard. Though my math and Greek symbols display perfectly correctly on my Snow Leopard laptop, they do not display on my Lion desktop. Instead, they are replaced with a "W in a box" symbol. I have already been in the FontBook to resolve fonts as suggested on other discussions and this has had no effect. Right now my only solution appears to be to painstakingly replace every single symbol by hand using the "insert symbol" menu, whereas previously I could for example type "D" and then switch the font to "Symbol" to obtain a delta character. It appears to be a font issue with Lion: how do I get the proper symbol font back?

It is really a bad idea to use the old symbol font that lets you type D to get a greek letter. Instead you should be using Unicode fonts where you input math and greek via the Character Palette or a dedicated Greek keyboard layout.
But I gather that you have to deal with files that were created with the old stuff, and it sounds like your Lion machine is missing the old kind of font. Presumably you have one on your Snow Leopard machine, so you just have to move a copy to the Lion system.

Problem with symbols..

trying to do a simple tween with the "House-1 used" (graphic) And
when I past the "House-1 used" and delete the "House-1" that was
there instead (not that I wanted it there in the first place...)
the "House-1" symbol comes back.
I've tryed to change the time lines around, because it
doesn't happen on the "Action-1" layer but only the layers that the
"House-1" symbol is on.
~My last resort is to make another layer and put the new
tween on that layer and continue on that layer.

3G, 3.5G or H only mean that you're connected to high speed network 3G. I've never seen Nokia S40 series showing up H. So, maybe that's why it was updated and fixed to 3G now.
Check out that you have HS packet access enabled. Assuming that the menu options are same in all the asha series, goto 'Menu> Settings> Connectivity > Packet Data' and enable HS packet access. That will make sure that the phone is connecting to the highest (fastest) network possible.
Plus, here I'm assuming that your phone is already receiving 3G network and not 2G. In case it was 2G, it'd have shown up E and not G as almost every operator has upgraded to E (edge network).
Hope someone corrects me if I'm wrong somewhere.

Euro and Poundsterling symbol problem even with WE8ISO8859P15

We are using the Primavera Enterprise (project management software) run on Oracle 8.1.7.0.0, the euro and pounds symbol is not displayed correctly (# and Â¤ instead).
Our configuration is :
AIX 4.3.3.0
NLS_LANG= WE8ISO8859P1 (configured in .profile for oracle user account)
Originally the database was created with the NLS_CHARACTERSET WE8ISO8859P1, as we discovered that this nls does not support euro, what we have done then :
- export it (.dmp WE8ISO8859P1)
- create a new database instance with WE8ISO8859P15 (hosted in the above AIX server)
- import the .dmp above to a new created database
- the log file generated saying that :
1. import done using WE8ISO8859P1 and WE8ISO8859P15
2. the server characterset is WE8ISO8859P15, character conversion possible
3. imported from export file with the WE8ISO8859P1
- we queried the database with 'select * from sys.props$ whre name like 'NLS%'; and we are sure that the database nls_characterset is WE8ISO8859P15
- we then update the euro and symbol from Primavera application
- we close the Primavera application and try to reopen it
- the euro and pounds symbol are back to as before (ie. # and Â¤)
Note : as the above server is a production server, we can not modify the NLS_LANG of the machine to WE8ISO8859P15

Barry & all, sorry to mention the client/server architecture with Primavera Enterprise.
The primavera application is installed in windows 2000/xp
- we tried several NLS in windows regedit of Oracle home e.g. NLS_LANG=FRENCH_FRANCE.WE8MSWIN1252 and NLS_LANG=FRENCH_FRANCE.WE8ISO8859P15)
- once we imported the database, we updated the euro and symbol from Primavera application, the symbol euro is displayed correctly in the application
- we close the Primavera application and try to reopen it
- the euro and pounds symbol are back to as before (ie. # and ¤)
- the same thing when we query the database directly, it shows the same signs (ie. # and ¤)

Drag and Drop not working - symbol disappears when I try to drag

I have a large animation I am making in Edge Animate, and have already used the draggable jquery plugin several times. However yesterday I made a new symbol for a separate animation, and then added elements and turned them into symbols, and added the following code to the symbol timeline on creationComplete:

I have tried it with several different symbols, but each time I check it in a browser, I click on the symbol to drag and it disappears instead. I can't understand what I'm doing wrong, as that is all the code in the timeline actions, and I'm sure there's no code on the symbols I want to drag. I have also copied and pasted the code from draggable symbols that work, and changed the name, as they have slightly more code on for when you start dragging the symbol.

There are several draggable symbols and two droppable symbols, each draggable symbol can be put into one droppable symbol, and I want the draggable symbol to go back to it's original position if it is dragged anywhere but the correct droppable symbol. I have used revert: 'invalid' for this, but all of the draggable symbols spring back to their original position, but a bit lower down, even when dropped onto the correct droppable symbol, except "carrots-s", which isn't affected by revert: 'invalid'. Any idea what's happening?

HELP! InDesign with Snow Leopard - missing Symbol dfont

I have a Mac Pro and have just update to Snow Leopard. Now, Symbol dfont is gone.
I do technical journals and books for a living and I work with many equations and formulas. I also use MathType. A client of mine is very particular about the consistancy of fonts used, mainly, the Symbol font. Snow Leopard seems to have removed Symbol dfont (Med). This has made the consistancy of appearance a BIG problem. I have had to use Symbol ttf (which is now the default font for Symbol dfont . . . apparently) and the difference is noticable.
Is there a way of putting the Symbol dfont back into the system folder without it becoming a nightmare? According to the OSX ver. 6, it was suppose to have this. Did they take it away in its updates to OSX ver. 6? Any help would be most appreciated.

10.6 Ships with Symbol.ttf rather than Symbol.dfont. It's in /System/Library/Fonts/
If you absolutely need the .dfont you could pull it off an old system. I have one handy and can sent you a link, but the ttf is probably better to use. See attached for version difference between ttf, dfont and the windows SYMBOL.TTF.
The new one has ~30 more characters added to it and matches the windows version.

Time Machine Error Prevention - Do Not Use "/" Symbols on the names on HD!

This is a warning message:
If your Time Machine Backup Fails with the Message:
"The Backup Was Not Performed Because an Error Occurred while Copying Files To the Backup Disk. The problem May be temporary. Try again later to back up.etc.."
*If you Use Symbols In Your Names DONT!*
*Do Not Use this / slash Symbol on the names of your Hard Drives*! Also check your logs to see if the TM backup is hanging on a file name with : or / symbol.
*Back Story*
I had purchased a new 3TB Western Digital HD and needed to do a full backup. I never had issues with Time Machine before. But After trying 2 times and received the error message I new something was wrong.
I did some research installed the Time Machine Widget and checked Console for the error codes.
I was searching on the forums here and just read a post from Pandini regarding the use of characters in file names. I was having an issue with an error code #2 every time. I reformatted with a GUID Partition (Intel Only) and verified and repaired the disks and permissions on everything was good on all my HD's.
After reading his short post about the characters possibly causing the issue I changed the naming on one of the external USB drives to be backed up.
I had it labeled as "Audio/Video/Docs 1TB."
I changed to: "Audio Video Docs 1TB" then tried the backup again it worked great.
It's amazing how a / slash can hang then entire system. I wish Apple would provide some informational notes about these very very simple subtle issues.
Thanks to Pandini for the post, it was the key clue. Save yourself some time and check your logs and hard drive naming to be sure there are no / Slashes.

Problem solved. Issue resolved. Problem was due to the : or / symbol in the file or HD name.

Symbol disappear from stage after being created from an image

Ok, first, I'm a beginner with Edge here, So I might be missing some obvious solution.
I want to create a button. I simply change an image to symbol (as I want to animate the buttons).
Once I do that and test it in preview, the symbol is gone. It never comes back. It's not put to
'hide'. It's in the timeline...
What am I missing?

Thanks for wanting to help! I was going put up the project but first I wanted to trouble shooting one last time.
and... i got it to work!
I'll put the problem here in case someone runs into this issue as a beginner.
Steps to trouble shoot:
There was no code put into the button, Just a simple button.
I closed the project and made a new project just with an image and created the symbol. It worked. It was still there.
Then I went back to the project. Turn off every layer except the symbol that disappeared. When everything was turned off, I ran the preview again and the symbol was back! Then I turned each layer back on, one by one... doing previews each step. It kept showing until the last part. then it disappeared again. I then looked at the symbol closely to compare what was different from the other layers.
It was that every other layer used % instead of px at the position. The symbol used px as position and basicly jumped outside the stage.
Silly mistake but I am started to understand Edge Animate. It seems that if you use %, it's best to keep consistant with it and not mix % and px in position/sizes for the layers.

My computer is freaking out! A bunch of weird lined symbols appeared on my screen and then it told

Weird symbols appeared on my screen. The screen then told me to restart. I did and this happened 3 times. I just did a sage reboot but it has a gray screen andseems to be taking a long time . what happened and how do I fix it??

And now the lined symbols are back!

The unassigned symbol # appears in web excel layouts in one specific cell

Hello all,
I've got a problem with some web excel layouts where when I open them the symbol # appears in cell F11.
It does not happen to all the layouts we have created, just to some of them.
The fact that this symbol comes up means that in order to perform their work the users have first to delete it from the excel, then once they have saved their data the symbol comes back up. It's like as if the symbol was saved in the master excel template. The thing is that it only shows on the web. If I launch the very same layout from BPS0 nothing comes up and everything works perfectly.
Has anybody come across anything like this? How can I get rid of it?

Hi,
One possible reason is '#' would be part of master data for characteristics that drive the layout and some transaction data exists.Else whenever you leave the selection for characterictic open in the level this would occr in the layout.

Problems Booting up - "No smoking symbol"

Hello everyone,
I'm running a 2004 Powerbook G4 512 megs of ram and an 80 gig HD, hopefully I'll be able to explain my problem as clearly as I can.
Months ago, I left to class only to return to a Powerbook that was responding very very sluggish. I heard this internal grinding sound (I think grinding is too harsh of a word, but imagine something spinning and stopping it with your hand, such as those mini handheld fans people bring out during the summer) and none of my applications were running. So I turn off the computer to restart it and the computer does not boot at all. I did not panic, but left the computer off for a couple days and turned it back on and everything booted up propely and everything seemed okay. I repaired the permissions and tried to repair the disk only to run into an error. I decided to boot off the Tiger OSX CD and run disk utility from there. I was able to repair the disk and I thought that was the end of my problem... and it was... for about a month.
The 'grind' and the repeating clicking noise returned. I immediately tried to boot off the CD to run disk utility, only to find that disk utilitiy wasn't picking up my hard drive! I checked the startup disk and only had the two choices of booting off the CD or booting off the network (i think that's what the second choice was, I might be wrong!) but no choice to boot off the HD on the laptop. Worried again, I kept the computer off for a couple more days and booted off the CD only to have disk utility find pickup the hard drive. I ran disk utility and repaired the permissions and disk.
The computer was working fine, although I knew something was obviously wrong with it! I took it to the apple store and told the guy what was happening only to get a mini lecture on why it wouldn't be cost effective for apple to start replacing parts on my computer. Frustrated, I told him that it's not very cost effective for me to purchase a $2200+ computer, the only computer I have in college, to have it break down several times and be told that I needed to wait to have it breakdown once more before anything could be done. I was angry, but of course what he said makes sense.
The computer stopped functioning for a third time. This when the gray screen appears, instead of the apple logo, I got the no-smoking circle-with-a-slash-through-it symbol.
After a couple more tries, the apple symbol came back and it took quite a while to get out of the gray screen and into the blue screen... although once the blue screen came up with the spinning circle beneath it letting the user know something is loading, the circle would go away, and the system would just hang at that blue screen.
Unfortunately, it was finals week for me and the computer broke down the day before I was flying back to Los Angeles.
Call me a fool, but I once again booted off the CD, ran disk utility, and here I am typing out this post on the same laptop.
Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be? Is it a failing HD? Wouldn't the HD have croaked already? Anything would help and I'm very sorry for the long post!!!

Sluggish, grinding, "no smoking" symbol at startup -- you've got a failing hard drive. if you have access to an external drive, get your critical data off now.
What does it say in Disk Utility under SMART status: verified or failing?
I had mine replaced a month ago. It was still working, but the grinding was driving me insane, and of course the day before I took it in, even SMART status said "verified." ON the genisu bar it changed to "failing."
You're on borrowed time. But like a soap opera actress, hard drives can die a quick and painless death, or a long, drawn-out, season-long melodramatic death.
So, in summary back up your data, prrepare to get a new drive.
