Symlinks where are you

I'm trying to import media to 10.1 using Leave Files in Place seleted during import.
Files import OK but no Symlinks are created, only get the media actual copying as if the Copy Files Into option was selected.
Anyone else seeing this or am I back the the drawing board?
Al

Thanks for you time Karsten.
The How:  is because all my 10.0.9 stuff, media and app were isolated before I moved to 10.1.
There is no messing around with the older media in any shape or form.
Symlinks are basically a shortcut/alias pointing to media and it is is discerned by the giveaway little curved arrow.
Below is what I'm having the difficulies with. From the new manual.
I cannot get the files to be left in their existing places when Leave files in place:  is the selected option.
The fuction seems to not let me, It's probaly user error but in the right here right now I cannot get it working as advertised.
Organize files while importing
You can select the following options for organizing your media when you import it into Final Cut Pro.
Copy files into: This option duplicates the media files and places the copy in the current library. Alternatively, you can use the pop-up menu to choose a different library or any folder on a connected hard disk. If you’re importing media from a different disk or volume, or if you want to keep a copy of all the media files that have been imported into Final Cut Pro in the same location, select this option.
Leave files in place: If you import files with this option selected, Final Cut Pro creates symbolic links (also known as symlinks), which are special files that point to the media files without copying them. When you move, copy, or back up events and projects that use these files, Final Cut Pro moves or copies the symbolic links only (not the source media files). If, after you move or copy your project or event, you want to replace the symbolic links with the actual source media files, select the events and choose File > Consolidate Event Files. For more information about files and clips, see Media files and clips.

    smg123 where are you?
I have a question related to post:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=31&thread=347231
Was the dll ever completed and is it available?
I know smg123 changed usernames last year because of password problems...but I haven't seen that username (smg123NewAndImproved) since December.

although i still would like to see if that dll was ever made, I was able to do what I needed on my own, creating a shortcut in windows from java.

  • @ Nokia - where are you?

OK, so as this is the official Nokia Support Discussions forum I'm wondering  where is the input from Nokia addressing all the many, many complaints from disgruntled owners of Nokia devices after this screwed-up Belle 'update'?

Even if I'm not as satisfied with Belle (yet) as with Anna or previous Eseries platforms, I don't think it's fair to complain so much and blame Nokia for Belle, being "horrible", "non-user friendly", "step backward" and other negative adverbs.
Belle's been out for 2 weeks and getting used to the new UI takes some time. Some may like it immediately (I do), some need some time, others don't like it. There will always be people complaining. These same people will "not buy Nokia ever again" and will rather buy iPhone. Well, let's wait for a week and they'll login to the Apple's discussion forum asking "how is it possible that my XY app doesn't sync with my WZ software" or "this is much easier to do with Nokia, hey Apple, where are you guys?". Finally, "I overpayed this iStuff and expected it to work. I'll never buy an iPhone again.". That's life.
Think about - it's a nice gesture from Nokia to offer a FREE upgrade to Belle. It was OUR decision to upgrade, Nokia didn't made us to do it. Perhaps it would be wiser to make Belle payable (couple of euros, make it 20). THEN people should read the specs, what it features and decide if it fulfills the expectations. Making a formal complaint (reclamation) would be reasonable since you payed for it. And Nokia would benefit $$ and could actually pay the SW engineers from this income. But it was for free.
Personally, I like the interface and overall performance - it's smooth(er), battery life is extended, it's easier to control the BT, 3G, Wifi as some examples. I realized some bugs but am sure they'll fix them. I'm annoyed about Wifi bug, absence of remaining characters in SMS messages, but I think I'll survive.
I'm sure "Nokia" is following our discussions but releasing fixes every week is not even possible, reasonable nor feasible. Take time, get a buglist not only from 100 non-satisfied users but from larger pool of users and focus on the most important ones. These phones must work in Germany, California, Hongkong, Christchurch, Novosibirsk, Tahiti, Patagonia,... different languages, fonts, mobile network properties, operators -- you know what I mean?

  • HT3529 where are you smiley faces and symbols for texting on the iphone 5c?

Where are the smiley faces and symbols for texting?

On the emoji keyboard. Go to Settings>General>Keyboard>Add Keyboard and select emoji. Then you will have a small globe key near the number key on the left side of the keyboard. This will allow for selecting between the regular keyboard and the emoji keyboard.

  • 10.8.4 where are you

cannot wait for 10.8.4 to be released cause 10.8.3 is not working on mine machine so frustrating so best option now to wait any one give me a clue when the next version comes out so my computer works a1 ok again?

Here are some suggestions for getting the best results from this site.
Give details of the problem. Don't just state your conclusion as to what's causing it. A remark such as "I think I have a virus," or "I got an error," or "X doesn't work" conveys no information. If X did work, you wouldn't be here. Instead, you should post something like this: "I did A; I was expecting B; but I got C instead." Include the complete text of any error messages you saw and where you saw them: in an application window, a CrashReporter window, a log, or whatever. Also include the steps you’ve taken yourself, if any, to try to resolve the issue. If the problem is of recent origin, did you make any changes to your setup just before you first noticed it? Is the problem reproducible or intermittent? That is, does it always manifest itself when you take a certain action, or only at unpredictable times?
Before posting, ask yourself whether it’s likely that you are the the only person ever to have had this problem. If not, search the discussions for answered questions similar to yours. If you found any pertinent information, but it didn't help, include details.
Post in the most relevant discussion area. Usually that means the area for the type of Mac you're using, if the problem is hardware-related, or for the OS X version you’re running, if it’s more software-related. Some other Apple products, such as Safari, iTunes, and iPhoto, have their own forums.
If asking about third-party software, specify what it is, the website where you got it (if applicable), and what version you have. Ask the developer for help first. Include the results of that contact in your message: what you were told and what you did.

  • Hard Disk Memory - where are you?

I have the MacBook Air a few months now. I've had the error message 'Start up Disk Full', so I cleared off old vids etc and got a few clean up tips from YouTube videos. That's ok for now.
I've used Disk Discovery to see what level of memory is taken up in files on the hard disk. From what I can gather 37Gb is taken up by everything - user and system files etc. My system resources say I have 12Gb free and the HD is 64Gb. I can't uncover where the other 15Gb is.
So, my question is two fold - How much of my 64Gb should be taken up by system files (I assumed about 10Gb) and where can I locate the remainder of my memory?
All hints & tips welcome. I want to fill up a 32Gb iPod from my iTunes.
    Ta,
    Phil.

If you go to the Apple Menu, select "About This Mac", and click "Storage", you'll get a sense of how much everything is taking up on your Mac.
The system is going to take up about 10-15GB of space.
Here are some hints to eek out some more storage.
Download and run Monolingual. It is free and will remove all the languages you are not going to use within the OS. For me, I only speak and use English, so I removed everything but English and saved about 1.5GB of storage space.
I purchased Clean My Mac 2 and recovered almost 5GB of storage by removing junk like log files, etc. that build up within OS X. It also has a nice feature which will show you all the files that haven't been used in a long time and/or take up a lot of space. There are ways to do this manually in Finder, but this program makes it a lot more straightforward.
After installing applications I look in the app folders for crap like sample files, readme files, legal files, etc. - all the crap that gets installed that you're never going to actually use or look at. That isn't a ton of space, but good for a few hundred MB. Every little bit counts in my book.
Always keep about 10% of your storage free. The OS constantly writes/deletes information and the less free space it has to work with the slower it will perform.
    Hope this helps!

  • Lenovo Support - where are you

    Hi
I need some help and I am running out of options of who to approach.
5 months ago I purchased a top spec'd T440s in New Zealand. I am now living in Chile and two months ago the machine failed. As it is covered under international warranty I contacted Lenovo and they arranged a support ticket and told me to take it into the local repair agent in Chile which I did. Three weeks later the local repair agent said they were unable to repair the machine and that Lenovo would arrange for a replacement unit to be made available to me. A few days later Lenovo Latin America got in touch and confirmed that they would organise a replacement machine. This was 3 weeks ago and I have heard nothing since. The local repair agent has washed their hands of it saying they have passed it back to Lenovo and no one at Lenovo is answering anything. The problem is compounded further by the fact I don't speak Spanish.
I have no idea what to do next or who to approach. What can I do?

If there is a hardware problem with the phone, a service center should fix it under warranty. If they're not doing their job properly then I suppose you should be able to report or at least complain about them to Nokia via the Careline.
edit: oh wait - where did "Fonemenders" exactly say your phone would be "coming back" from without being fixed? Aren't they supposed to fix ít themselves as Nokia sure doesn't fix any phones themselves, after all that's what all those service centers are for?Message Edited by wicker_man on 13-Mar-2007

  • Where Are You @ Audition 4+???

Hello  I really need to speak to the makers of audition.  Your product is so great i cannot for the life of me see why your letting this product slip away.  I have been using Adobe Audition my entire life.  Your product allwos me to work faster and more creative then any other product on the market.   Audition 3 is almost a perfect product.  It really dosent need anything else for me except a few features are missing for me..
We need windows 7 64bit compatability.  Majority of pc users by now have windows 7 64bit working with audio / video these days.  The reason is we need to take advantage of all the ram and speed of a 64 bit software.  for small studios getting by with the 32 bit is wonderful.. but we use a ton of rack plugins for tube compressors, reverbs, and effects through out our sessions.   we need to keep the pc running smoothly in very large sessions.
We absolutely need a better universal way to use our own DAE controllers.  You left us stranded here with one option.  The mackie control.  What about those of us using the Mackie Hui or other controllers?  I have searched the depths of the internet looking for a way to get my Mackie HUI working and have went as far to almost hire a programmer to help using the Audition SDK.  If anyone can help on this subject please shead you light on me here im so tired of looking for a solution.. thanks
Your taking forever on getting your team together and taking your product to the next level... Meanwhile die hard supporters of your company are getting left in the dark and your rival companies are luring us slowly in by listening to what we need and delivering it..  For instance ive seen pro tools copy a few of your features through out their updates because people wrote them asking them to have that feature.. One nice feature they havent stolen yet is in the edit window you can highlight the area and simply move volume up and down as needed.  Love that feature while mixing down..  You guys have in my opinion the best audio functioning software and layout but your missing midi controller compatability..
Over the years ive been listening to everyone else say adobe audition is low and how i should  upgrade to pro tools, nuendo, or something professional... But i defended my love for this software because  Its  fast, it functions with little pc load and how its professional all the way arround.
Can you at the least release an update for the midi controllers!!!  im using the mackie hui because i like to see a meterbridge. You only have support for the mackie Universal.. But there should be a lot more controllers supported.  I also own the jl cooper cs-10 and digidesign control 24.
Anyways im not here to listen to the BS... im hoping we can get some insight from the developers on this one here.  Also if youve found a way to use the mackie HUI interface in audition 3 100% please help with that.  Thanks for your time.

Thank you for the excellent reply.  This helps so much.
a few questions in reply to your statement.
1   Some of the more high end mastering processers and plugins that are purchased independently are corrently taking advantage of faster processing using 64 bit.  I am currently running adobe audtion in windows 7 64 bit and it works great i was just curious if they were going take advantage of technology and write a version for people who use larger stuidio sessions and more plugins whom need 64bit.. For instance putting 32 tracks with three active racks on each track creates pc load that causes jittering and errors.  UNLESS... you are running quad core extreme or i7 processors and using 6 gigs of ram.. I continue purchasing the fastest pc i can build.. i want to be able to do my job in audio smoothly and in less time.  I think more professionals would take your product more seriously knowing they can take advantage of their pc recources..  Unfortuinatly 32 bit versions are limiting us like a bottle neck and people getting in to some serious amazing mixes really need to open the pipeline with out errors and hickups.   *just for the record.. im not trying to insult the 32 bit version of Audition because i believe its a fantastic piece of software as is but as a consumer and someone who uses it daily in a comercial environment i would love to have a version made to run on my 64 bit architecture.  I work in audition daily and blow away the clients who are "pro tools this and that"  fans because ive been working in this software environment my entire life so i know the ins and outs and it delivers a much better sound IMO and proof of work.  You cant seriously tell me that because there is a few people still running xp the company hasnt released a 64 bit version.  I would suggest leaving the version 3.0 created for that version and using 4.0 to stay updated with todays technology and PC uses windows 7... My audition system uses 3 monitors.. the 1st is a 46inch that shows my workspace the second is a 32" that shows the mixer and FX rack the third is a 22" that shows the FX plugins controls.. i leave all three wondows maxamized and up to see whats going on while recording a session..  Nice you have this feature.. Just to give you an example of the setup and why multiple cores and processiong and why were using 64 bit.. we are alsio taking advantage of faster hard drives, ram,  ect..
    2.     The drivers fro the mackie board i was reffering to was made in 1997 and IMO is a great tool available for adobe to use to give us hands on production.  It features a full meter bridge and controlls basically everything your mouse regularly clicks on.. I purchased this specifically to use with my adobe audition and went in to set it up in my studio and..... i was greatly dissapointed to find only one support controller available for the mackie universal which is a slightly newer version but dosent have a meter bridge...  There is not many professional automation mixers available for us to buy so supporting the few that are out there would be nice.. and im sure if you contacted mackie or any other company making boards you will find them happy to supply you support to place them in the software...   Its a little diffrent for me as a consumer writing them now asking for a basic control driver for my MACKIE HUI which now is discontinued and asking them to make me a driver that i can mod in to your system...  thats way too difficult.. Im asking if you would look in to this for future development so we can take advantage of automation and control in all available consoles.. Profesional recording  environments use these surfaces shouldent your software support them?
    3.  Adobe audition is great dont let someone program and change the whole layout arround. this work environment is so perfect.. it really im really a die hard audition user i work in this environment and think its the best.. There really isnt much to change. IMO it just needs support in the areas noted above.. It would be cool to maby update the skin a little but you really dont need much... Im very estatic about a newer release.. I however do not work in mac and not every audio engineer does eather. However mac support is awsome to hear guys!
IM excited to hear of updates and you guys are moving forward and the product was not dropped Audition should be a priority over soundbooth IMO.. thanks! oh and is there anyone with knowlage of how to get this mackie hui working with automation in adobe audition 3?  thanks?

  • 1.2 firmware, where are you Apple?

Apple I am sure that you are more that aware of the problems of firmeware rev. 1.2. Are these problems that those of us are having fixable? Or is this a hardware problem and you are trying to wait until the one year warranty is gone to inform us?
To the others I have noticed that if I disable the EQ the iPod does not hang. I still get screen artifacts sometimes.

Yes I am very aware that the warranty period will be different based on your date of purchase. My point being that this problem has not been fixed, and since a lot of the new content on itunes has to have the 1.2 firmware to operate apple needs to fix this.
As far as you not haveing any problems, you are lucky. But that does not in anyway help those that have had to deal with these problems.

  • IOmega drive - where are you?!

    Hello,
I hope someone can help me 1) solve this problem and 2) give me some tips on how to avoid if it was self induced.
My iOmega external HDD won't automatically mount. It does not display in Disk Profiler. In System Profiler I can see an unknown Firewire device which I believe is it. It has data on it currently so I'd prefer not to have to format it! I tried searching some other threads but they tend to be very specific.
    Thanks!

    Hi Marcus,
Thanks for the opportunity to explain the system
    Points:
Only 1 person can get a 10 (best answer)
But  2 people can receive a 6 (very helpful answer)
while limitless people can receive a 2 (helpful answer)
You can change the ranking and designation of your participants but only if you demote, once the 2 people receiving 6 points are defined.

You are so correct, Marcus, this isn't a question you posed, so there is no "complete" answer, but I wanted to highlight an especially articulate one.  You have generated a very stimulating discussion thread, here, by the way, so thanks.  Anyone answering so fully and well (of course complete is subjective) should be rewarded.  Another way to have that happen, is for a post, which has so much content, to "evolve" into a blog or an article.
We really encourage participation this way through the <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/submitcontent">Submit Content page</a>.  There you can see an application to <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/sdnweblogs/becomeblogger">blog</a> or even <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/contentsubmission">Submit your article</a>.  Although this says SDN, (because BPX is still sneak preview) this is a good way to contribute articles and blogs.

  • Where are you getting backgrounds, textures, and templates for CS6?

I'm just curious about good web sites to download royalty free backgrounds, templates, textures, etc. for Photoshop.  I'm willing to pay a small annual fee to join the site, but of course free is always good too.  I'd rather avoid places like iStock- I'm looking more for a site that has Photoshop or other design applications in mind.
I've found a couple of sites through Google, but they seem old and not updated as often (they still mention compatibility with CS4 and 5).
So what are your favorite sites?
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks, but I'm thinking more along the lines of something like cgtextures.com.  Great site with lots of stuff but the vast majority are photos.  I'd also like templates and non-photo images.
For example, the other day I had to create a "Wanted: Dead or Alive" poster for someone.  I found some good tutorial instructions on how to do it (I'm a photographer, not a graphics artist, so I need all the help I can get when it comes to graphics).  One of the steps had me downloading some textures for the poster's background that no longer existed on the Internet, so I had to improvise a little.
I'd love to find a template for something like that that already has all the important elements in it.  While I love learning new stuff, sometimes I have a deadline and it just has to get done.  Open template, pop in picture, do some adjustments, etc.... done.
So I'm looking for templates along the lines of Photobacks, for example.
And I'm looking for non-photo graphics like you'd find on, for example, a band or movie poster.
Again, not being a graphics artist, I'm not going to go and recreate all that stuff.  I have no problem paying a small fee... I just don't want to pay $30 for a star burst or a bolt of lightning that will end of being one little tiny element in a bigger work.

  • KNOX... Where are you?

I just got the new update, and I understand it was going to include Samsung KNOX.  I can see it in the running programs, but that's it!  From what I understand, you should be able to separate and secure contacts and stuff. Does anyone know how to do this?

This https://www.samsung.com/global/business/mobile/solution/security/samsung-knox is what its supposed to do. It's supposed to have come with the latest firmware update for the Galaxy S4. There are components of it, it seems, present when you view the application manager in settings, but there is no apparent trace of it as an actual usable application/utility. This is something that many businesses I'm sure would prefer employees have on their devices.
    More information also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Knox.
And I find it odd that as others stated, as a Verizon employee you'd have no knowledge of this, but then again I guess I shouldn't be too surprised, 3 calls 19 different answers.

  • JApplet ... where are you?

    hi

i'm developing an applet based on JApplet. When i try to load it from a tomcat server nothing happen except that on the server stdout, where happen

    can somebody help me?
    thanks Max

    hi
    what browser you use?
genernally speaking, most browser support the AWT but few support the SWING.because the JApplet is in the swing library, the browser which don't support the swing can't find the japplet class.
but you can download java plug-in to your browser to support and test your Japplet.

  • Mirium where are you....

I don't see your famous red signature on any of the intel based Mac forums. Yet I see you have one. What's the deal? Still to many questions to answer on the G5 forum?
    Best,
    virg

I've had my 20" intel for two years without any problems at all (touch wood!!!!), whereas my Rev A G5 iMac needed almost all the components replaced in the first six months, and finally gave up the ghost a week before Apple Care expired. That taught me to wait for Rev B before buying a new Mac, although I have a Cube, which only had the single iteration. It worked perfectly, I gave it to my grandson a few years ago, he now has a fancy MacBook and gave it back to me, it still works and is a spare in case I ever have problems with my intel.
