Syn Keychain Password after Migration

I migrated from an old G3 to a Mac Mini. When I migrated I had to create a new account. The old account is "richs" and the new account is "richs2". I only have the new account on the computer but my old keychain migrated to the new computer so I only have the one keychain which is fine. I have two problems.
1. After a restart if I load Safari or Mail I am prompted to enter my keychain password. I don't remember having to enter it as much in the past.
2. My keychain password does not sync with my account password. When I change my account password I want it to change my keychain password so I don't have to remember two passwords.
Under Preferences there are two options. One is "Synchronize login keychain password". I am assuming that means it will sync my account password with my keychain password so I have it checked but apparently it makes no difference. Also there is an option for "set login keychain as default" . Both boxes are checked and it says underneath to check them if you want the keychain to unlock automatically at login which, again, it apparently doesn't. BTW, in the keychain list under my account name there are all of my internet passwords listed but under the "login" keychain there is nothing listed. Is that why I am having such a problem?
Thanks for your help!
Rich

  • Multiple requests for keychain password after booting up

Every time I boot up I get several requests for my keychain password.
I think the requests come from each of the applications that I have selected for auto-launch in the Accounts control panel.
Is this because these apps are launching before the system unlocks the keychain?
I never get keychain password requests at any other time. It seems like there is a sequence or timing issue.

  • Lost all autofill usernames & password after migration & upgrade to leopard

I recently got a new imac, migrated all my old info to the new machine, then upgraded to leopard. now safari has none of my previous usernames & passwords stored in autofill preferences. can i go back to my old machine and find a prefernce list or something to put on my new imac so i don't have to go refigure all my usermanes & passwords?
i transferred from the old half-dome imac to a new 24" imac, which i LOVE!!

Be sure to use software update to get the latest version of Leopard 10.5.1. Then, if the passwords still do not appear, try this:
I found this answer on another discussion question.
    Open Utilities:Keychain Access
Click on Passwords in left column
Scroll down to "Safari Forms Autofill" and double-click
    Open access control window
Click radio button that says "Allow all applications to access this item"
Close window--you will be prompted for your password.
Note: this works for other items in the password window.

  • New MacBook Pro won't recognize my existing account password after migrating data from existing MacBook Pro.

I just turned on a new (to me)(bought used, pre loaded with 10.6.3) 17" circa 2007 MacBook Pro, allowed it to migrate settings, data, and applications. I turned it on and the welcome to OSX video automatically played then it asked me if I wanted to transfer my stuff from my old MacBook Peo. I said yes and hooked it up with the firewire cable. After it finished migratine it gave me the option to get started and I said yes. It went straight to the login screen. When I try to log in it doesn't recognize my password assuming it wants my login info that should have migrated I type it in but it just shutters. The password hint is not helpful either. Am I not thinking straight here? How do I get it to recognize me?

Try booting off the DVD that came with the computer or a Snow Leopard DVD. Go to Utilities menu/Reset Password.

  • System password after migration

    Dear forum,
After I used the migration assistant, my system password no longer works. I had them both set the same on my air as on my Macbook Pro from which I migrated, but it doesn't work now. Any thoughts?
    Trace

    Hi Trace,
If the password is not working and you're unable to login to the machine then the next step is to reset the password via the System Restore disc 1 that came with your MBA. If you didn't purchase the external SuperDrive for the machine you can use remote disc sharing from the MacBook Pro.
The password should work, as it's designed to be brought over with your user account as part of the migration assistant. So the fact that it's not, will require you to reset it.

  • User password not accepted after migration

Source: iMac Lion OSX.7.4  Destination iMac OSX6.8
Problem: user password is not accepted after migration
What I did: Tried to migrate over the LAN, but in the migration assistant the other Mac was mutually never recognized. (Did migrations several times successfully in our LAN before). Last time the LIon Mac was the destination, who is now the source.
I backupped then the  user with Time machine on the Lion and installed it with the migration assistant on the Snow Leopard system. As as the password was not accepted, I repeated the backup/migration process once. No help
I reset in System Prefs/User accounts the password of that user. But cannot login either
First time, that a migration process fails for me.
    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks

The target computer itself has admin accounts thats not the problem, I can access it. The issue is that the migrated additional user account is not accessible with its password.
I have found here an istruction how to reset a password in single user mode.
    http://www.macyourself.com/2009/08/03/how-to-reset-your-mac-os-x-password-withou t-an-installer-disc/
But that does not help either. The answer after the dscl -passwd command is that I do not have access (or similar, I don't remember)
My guess is that backward migration (Lion to Snow) causes the problem. May be I need to create the user freshly and to copy his documents manually

  • Email and keychain passwords needed after iTunes 6.0

I just upgraded to iTunes 6.0 from 4.9. Everything seems to work fine, but when I wanted to check my email, I got a window asking me for my keychain password or phrase. I entered my system password, but said "sorry, invalid..." so I hit cancel a few times and the window closed. Then, I needed to enter my passwords for each e-mail account that I have. I entered them and mail seems to be working okay now. The music store is working fine, but I have not purchased any new songs yet.
Do you have any idea why a keychain or email passwords are needed after the upgrade? Thanks in advance.

Hello. my default keychain is locked and it says my password is invalid, so I cannot unlock it. This happened after upgrading to iTunes 6.0. One of the immediate problems is that I have to enter my email passwords manually when getting mail. How do I fix this keychain problem? Thanks.

  • I cannot log into user account with old password after using migration assistant.

I used Migration Assistant to move only my Settings and Users from my Power PC (User name RLE 5) to my Mac Pro.  Because of what I have read in these forums I did not migrate applications or and files/folders. I will do that manually.  After migrating I tried logging in to my user account RLE 5 on my Mac Pro, but it is telling me I am using the wrong password.  I used the same password I used on my Power PC, but with no luck.  On my Mac Pro I went into System Preferences>Accounts>RLE 5 account and changed the password.  I then rebooted and tried again.  No luck.
Can somebody help me with this problem?
    Thank you.

What you propose would not solve the problem I am having.  I must not have been clear about it.  So I will elaborate.
I have a Power PC with 10.5.8.  The admin user account name is RLE 5.  I need a password to log into my root user account on my Power PC.
Then I bought a used Mac Pro with a clean install of 10.7.5 and no password set up yet for my admin user account.  The admin user account name is Mac Pro.  When I turn on the computer it opens to my admin user account where I have access to everything.
I used Migrations Assistant to move my Settings and Users from my Power PC to my Mac Pro.  That seemed to to successfully.
So I now have four users on my Mac Pro:  RLE 5 (the admin user from my Power PC with the password), Mac Pro (my admin user which does not require a password), and two guest user accounts.
I turn on my Mac Pro and it opens to my Mac Pro admin user account.  I don't need to sign in.  No problem.
I log out of Mac Pro.  On my screen are the four user accounts.  I click on RLE 5 (which was my admin user account on my Power PC that I migrated over to my Mac Pro) to log into that account and it asks me for a password.  I type in the password I used for my Power PC.  It keeps telling me it is the incorrect password.
I cannot log into my user account RLE 5 on the Mac Pro.  I am being told I have the incorrect password. I've gone to System Preferences>Accounts and changed the password.  It doesn't make a difference.
Also I cannot log into the Guest User account that migrated from the Power PC to the Mac Pro for the same reason.  I have also tried to change the password for that Guest User account also but with no luck.
Another interesting thing has happened.  I decided to give my Mac Pro admin user account a password by going to System Preferences>Accounts.  But when I do a test to sign into my admin user account Mac Pro it tells me it is the wrong password.  Luckily I can reboot the computer and it opens to my Mac Pro user without asking for a password.  But if I log out of Mac Pro and try to then sign back in with the password it tells me it is the incorrect password.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • After restoring iPhone 4S, Login password and Keychain password not working!!

    Hey!
So last night my Girlfriend restored her iPhone 4S running iOS 7 as new to fix a battery issue she was experiencing. Before doing this she went through and backed up her photos using iPhoto. She then restored the iPhone as new and when it had completed attempted to login to the mac as it had locked itself due to inactivity. Unfortunately she wasn't able to login and waited until I got home so I could try the password.. When I did get home I tried to login using the password but it didn't work. At that point I realised something had gone wrong so I tried all of my other passwords I had previously used with the mac as well as my Apple ID. None of them worked. At this point I booted to the Recovery 10.8.2 Partition and reset the password using the Password Reset Utility.
I then logged in and attempted to update the Keychain Password (This was the default "Login" keychain so it should be the same password as the Users password.). It didn't accept it so I went through and created a new Keychain to test if Keychain Access Application was working. It accepted the new keychain and I could operate the Application as if nothing was wrong (There was something wrong though, all of my passwords for many websites were stored in this keychain). I then removed the reference to the keychain and moved the keychain file from ~/Keychain folder to the desktop. I then reimported the Keychain and it still did not accept the password.
I called AppleCare to get a second opinion and spoke with a Senior Advisor who told me to just start a new one. I don't mind starting a new Keychain as I know the passwords for the main websites I browse, HOWEVER, I'd like to see if anyone knows what may have happened so I can perhaps prevent this from happening again.
    Thanks in advance,
    Nathan Freeman

    Tlix!
Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I'm quite aware that the restore of an iPhone should not have impacted the login password/keychain password. This thought has been further concreted after consulting a few of my Apple Fanboy buddies who are fairly experienced in troubleshooting issues relating to Mac computers. In regards to try a blank password, I've actually had the exact same thought and will be trying this tonight. I'll be sure to post the results of this to let you know what happens.
Unfortunately I haven't gotten round to making a TM backup of my device, primarily due to my current lack of an external HDD.
    Thanks,
    Nathan Freeman
