Synaptics Touchpad -unable to disabled via touchpad upper left corner

I upgraded my HP dv6 from Win7 to Win8.1 Pro, 64 bit and now can't disable the touchpad by double tapping the upper lefthand corner of the pad. I tried editing the device properties in the Control Panel/Mouse?device Settings area, and the Tapping option. The setting is already set to disable the device with a double-tap, but no matter how hard or light I do the double-tap, it is not disabling the touchpad.
Any direction on fixing this is appreciated!

Hi ypw,
I have included a link below for a document about using the TouchPad. Check out the “Turn individuals gestures off and on” to see if the double action has been disabled or “Disable the TouchPad” at the bottom of the document.

• Windows 10 Technical Preview - Balloon Notification displayed at upper left corner always ?

I am testing both Windows 10 Technical Preview for x86 (Version 6.4.9841), Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview x86 (Version 10.0.9926) and x64 ( Version 6.4.9860 ) and enabled the balloon notification via local group policy manager:
1. "User Configuration->Administrative Templates->Start Menu and Taskbar->Disable showing balloon notifications as toasts" set to "Enabled"
2. RE-BOOT.
3. When I plugged and unplugged an USB thumb drive, the balloon notification shown at upper left corner of screen always.
This is not right, as I have existing applications depending on balloon notification as well.
Please advise.

• TS3274 Why does my iPad say " No SIM " in the upper left corner

Why does my iPad say " No SIM " in the upper left corner ?

Hi Edwardtracey,
Welcome to the Support Communities!
It sounds like you have a cellular data plan and there is no service where you currently are.
The article below will explain this feature and how to turn the setting on/off.
The article has more details and screenshots, but I've quoted highlights below for you:
iOS: About the Cellular Data setting
Cellular data is used for data communication in cellular networks. It does not affect your ability to make or receive phone calls or to use Wi-Fi networks for Internet connectivity. If you turn off cellular data, you will be unable to:
See the cellular data icons in the status bar (for example, LTE or 3G).
Send or receive MMS messages. However, you can still send and receive SMS and iMessages if you're connected to a Wi-Fi network.
Retrieve or listen to new Visual Voicemail messages. To retrieve these messages, enable Cellular Data.
Use Personal Hotspot.
You can adjust this setting by going to:
iPad: Settings > Cellular
Additional Information
You can also enable or disable cellular data for certain iOS features from this setting:
I hope this information helps ....
Have a great day!

• How do I get rid of yahoo toolbar and get back my orange firefox button in the upper left corner of screen so I can use my stuff again?

Yahoo toolbar suddenly imposed itself as my log on screen whenever I booted up my computer and clicked on Firefox. Now I can't get to my bookmarks even though it told me that if I activated the new bookmark system it would transfer my old ones. It didn't happen. The toolbar has no bar for typing in a www.http address. I cannot use it and don't want it. I am using Explorer just so I can access my bookmark address, but don't like Explorer. I want my old Firefox screen back that has the little orange button in the upper left corner of the screen. How can I get there? My computer use has been highly curtailed by this unrequested invasion!

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: command+Shift+F).
If you are in full screen mode then hover the mouse to the top to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear.
You can click the Maximize button at the top right to leave full screen mode or right click empty space on a toolbar and use "Exit Full Screen Mode" or press F11.
If the menu bar is hidden then press the F10 key or hold down the Alt key to make the menu bar appear.

Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
*Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize"
*Check that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
*If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette in the customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
*If missing items are in the toolbar palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
*If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up

• Problem with windows shrinking vertically and becoming stuck in upper-left corner of screen.

Does anyone else have problems with open windows shrinking vertically and becoming "pinned" to the top-left corner of the screen in OSX 10.9? They snap back to the upper-left if I try to move them. I have to Quit or Force Quit the apps and restart them.
I have a Mac Mini, and I have it hooked up to a TV via HDMI. This only seems to happen when I switch the TV input source *from* the Mac Mini to, for example, DirecTV. When I switch the TV's input source *back* to the Mac Mini HDMI connection, all seems fine; except that some or all of the windows that were on the desktop have shrunken vertically, and they are "stuck" in the upper-left corner of the screen. When I try to move the windows out of the upper-left corner, they snap right back. Very weird.
Everything else about the desktop and the Mac Mini appears just as I left it. The screen resolution hasn't changed - nothing like that. Although my first thought is perhaps the screen resolution is, briefly, changed to a lower resolution when the Mac Mini detects that its "monitor" connected via HDMI (in this case my TV) doesn't appear to be there because I have switched the input source of the TV. That's just a guess. And even if that's correct, I don't know how to fix it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
BTW, I don't remember this happening before I upgraded to OSX 10.9 Mavericks. I'm not 100%, but it seems like something I would have remembered. So the culprit could be 10.9, or it could be something else I have installed recently.
Thank you to anyone that can answer this for me.

same here:
Overview: I've seen it occur with the symptoms described by the OP while running Xcode, almost exclusively after waking my laptop from sleep mode. It effects non-Apple apps as well, but sometimes differently-- the window(s) open in Eclipse Juno for instance will sometimes disappear entirely such that they are totally inaccessible. As the OP noted the only way to clear the problem is to force quit the app and restart it (quite a hassle if you have multiple project windows open at once). I run Juno on Win32 and debian Linux also and have never seen behavior like this, so given that the problem has been observed in Apple branded apps and the fact that it only started after I installed Mavericks I would also posit that it is a Mavericks bug. That said, I do run a third-party app called WindowMagnet (v. 1.6 by CrowdCafe) that affects the window system, allowing Windows 7 Aero style window snapping; does anyone else having this problem use WindowMagnet?
Steps to reproduce: open Xcode, put the machine to sleep, wake the machine -- this bug will appear intermittently
Expected results: windows should remain the same size/configuration they held prior to sleep
Actual results: intermittently windows will be 'stuck' in the upper-left corner of the display or entirely invisible
System info: mid 2012 macbook pro (OSX 10.9.1)

• Ipad auto tapping, upper left corner.

I recently bought a used iPad Gen3 3G+WiFi with IOS 7.1.2, fully functional from a friend of mine. The device worked perfectly for 3 days, and then it started self tapping in the upper left corner. The device does this sporadically, when i least expect it. I tried restoring the device to factory defaults via iTunes, but it still does this every now and then. The device hasn't been dropped or anything (since its been in my possession), it came with its protective case, no dents on the surface of the screen or the corners whatsoever (none that i can see at least). Is there a way to fix this myself via software or do i have to take the device to the genius bar and have it analyzed? Any help will be most appreciated.

• Cursor moves to upper left corner when not in use

Hi,
Since I installed 10.9.3 (last night) the cursor has been jumping to the upper left corner when it is not in use for more than about 3 to 5 seconds. I'm using a bluetooth mouse and keyboard.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

• Why is there a blank/white graphic on firefox 4's upper left corner just beside the menu button?

After upgrading from FF3.6, I noticed at the upper left corner of FF4 that a small graphic a few pixels was not rendered properly and showed up like a small white blank square.

I have disabled the Firefox Tab add-on I think it was and it worked. No more white box for me ^_^

• I have these black boxes surrounding things, e.g., there is a black box around the red "close" button on the upper left corner of this page. There is also an oblong black box

Hi - I'm not only having trouble waking up my MBP from sleep and having to restart repeatedly which is a pain in itself, but now when it restarted, I have these black boxes surrounding things, e.g., there is a black box around the red "close" button on the upper left corner of this page. There is also an oblong resizable black box sitting on top of anything. The content changes depending on the actions I take. Right now it says, "You are currently on a close button. To click this button, which closes the current window, press Control-Option-Space." Right now I'm open in Firefox, but it doesn't matter if only Finder is open, it's still there. I've tried closing all my applications and restarting and I also reset the PRAM. It won't go away. It's probably something simple, but I don't know how to get rid of it. Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,
Janet

Thanks so much. I saw this on "desktop strangeness" immediately after I posted and tried to retract my question. It worked perfectly. I'm not sure how VoiceOver got turned on unless something happened when I was trying to wake up the computer. I open the lid and it flashes whatever is open and then the screen goes black and I can't wake it up. Still looking for the resolution to this.

• How to display a frame at the upper left corner of each screen?

hi,
below are 2 ways to display a frame at the upper left corner of each screen (i have 2 monitors).
both work but the 2nd way is much slower. which, if any, of the 2 approaches is "more" correct?

Do you still have all toolbars visible (View > Toolbars)?
Did you use an extension or the standard zoom buttons that you can find in the toolbar palette in the View > Toolbars > Customize window ?
Press F10 or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.

• What's the RIGHT way to draw an image in the upper left corner?

I have an NSView in a ScrollView and I'm trying to draw an image in it. The problem is that I want the upper left corner of the image locked to the upper left corner of the frame, instead of the lower left corner, which is what the View wants me to do. I will need to be able to zoom in and out, and rotate.
currently, I have a kludge of a system where I calculate how much I have to translate my image based on the size of the image and the size of the window. In order to do this, I needed to create an extra view outside the scrollview, so that I could get the size of the window, not including decorations. Then I can calculate the size of the view based on the size of the image and the size of the window, and based on THAT, I can figure out where to translate the image to.
My only other thought was to use the isFlipped: method, but that ends up reversing my image L-R which is bad.
Is there another way I should be doing this?
thanks.

Ah, the problem is that the content view includes the control panel, and while I'm sure I can get access to the control panel, and find out it's size, and then calculate everything off that, it becomes messy, and my way is easier, and no more messy.
And I never said this was HARD. I have already DONE it. It's just ugly, and I'm wondering if there is a better way to do it. Translating between coordinate systems is normal, but changing lower left to upper left origin is an artifact of the Mac's history with PDF and PS.
If the way I'm doing it is the accepted normal way, then fine, just tell me that.
