Sync 2 computers

I am trying to get a four year old Desktop running windows 2000 Pro Death Ready. Problem is that I am trying to get all files moved over to my laptop, which I have done with Laplinks softwared. Files now appear to be there, but the library isn't refresing with the new songs.
I bought a load of songs last night on the old desk top and burned them to CD. Both computers use the same login information. Only other problem is that the desk was filing under Document and setting "William" and the Lap is under "Bill"
What step and I missing? All the searches don't seem to have my issues.

iSync doesn't sync computers, it is for syncing third-party mobile phones via a USB or Bluetooth connection.
You can use MobileMe to keep certain types of data in sync across multiple computers, iPod touch and iPhone devices.

If you want to keep arbitrary data in sync across multiple computers, you'll need to use third-party software, such as ChronoSync:

There are plenty of other sync options, depending on what exactly you want to sync. Search on http://www.macupdate.com/ and http://www.versiontracker.com/

  • This is too arcane and complicated; there has to be a more straightforwards way to sync computers and devices.

I have two computers and an Android phone, an EVO 4G. Every time I've tried to use Sync, each machine using FireFox thinks it's the only one and wants me to start from scratch.
Isn't there an easier, more straightforward way to do this?

I couldn't agree more with what's been said here, this process is WAY too complicated, and I'm an IT Operations Manager! I've been an XMarks user for years now, and only recently started looking into Firefox Sync as I wanted to sync with Firefox on my phone.
This process breaks down in the fact that you need to be in front of two devices at the same time -or- have access to this arcane offline key blob. This is all very 1980's in a generation where I can transfer my entire net worth to a different bank account with a few taps on my phone.
I understand the need for heightened security here, but you're basically flipping a middle finger to the entire "cloud computing" concept by reverting back to siting in front of two devices to "get 'um synced up" or click a floppy disk into your computer with the "secret key". Which by the way, I made the reference to the floppy disk because if you're not "sitting in front of the computer" as it so aptly suggests, then how would you have access to the 40 character key? My mistake, I didn't commit it to memory, or email it to myself (thereby making the fact that it's "offline" completely irrelevant). So my point stands that unless you carry around your key in some sort of offline device, the entire process makes no sense. Again, v-e-r-y 1980's. Obviously I'm embellishing, but the process really does feel that old.
Borrowing from every other cloud-computing-like service, there's a common theme - You enter a very secure username & password, set up encryption keys if necessary that more than likely use your password to seed the encryption key if necessary. If my bank, 401K, photo service, online backup software, and file syncing software call all pull it off, I think Firefox should be able to sync my bookmarks and saved passwords in the same fashion.

  • Missing calendars on one of my MobileMe Synced computers.

I'm using MobileMe Sync to sync calendar data between Work & home iMac, Laptop and iPhone. All of my calendars that I am syncing show up except on my laptop. 3 of 5 calendars show-up and are syncing. 2 are missing from the laptop.
I have reset the sync data, unregistered and registered the laptop, replaced data on the laptop with MobileMe, still the calendars do not show up.
I'm running 10.5.7 on all the computers. Any suggestions?

This has just started to happen to me as well.
On my iMac, Macbook Pro and iPod Touch I have just noticed that I have complete calendars missing. However when I check on the mobile me web account, the missing calendars are still showing there but I can not get them to resync.
A completely missing calendar is easy to spot, and not good at all. I'm also really worried that I have individual calendar entries missing as well which will be impossible to notice
Anyone any idea's what's going on or how to restore these calendars.

  • Syncing computers

I am looking at getting a Macbook as a more portable second computer. Is there a way that I can keep iPhoto and iTunes synced on the 2 computers so that they are identical copies of each other so that as I add photos on one I can get them on the other machine too with the least amount of fuss? and can access both libraries on their respective desktops and make edits etc as I need to? and for those edits to then go onto the other computer as well?

Yes, you can use Target Disk Mode

  • Single view of all MobileMe sync computers and setting

Anyone know if there is a place, like a central control view, of all the computers and devices synced to my MobleMe account? Would also be great to find something similar for all the iTunes computers and devices connected to my iTunes account. With so many Macs and devices in my family now it is impossible to keep track of everything.

Anyone know if there is a place, like a central control view, of all the computers and devices synced to my MobleMe account?
Yes. System Preferences > Internet & Wireless > MobilMe > Sync > Advanced

  • Switching sync computers from windows to iMac

    Hello all,
I have just bought a new iMac and want to sync my iphone with this instead of my old windows XP computer. It asks me if I want to sync with this computer now - will all of my contacts/apps sync? I transferred all of my music already.
Forgive the post if it's been answered, but my search of the forum just had OS X iMac to laptop, etc.
    Thanks
    Ben

You can transfer your purchases by connecting your iphone, right clicking on it in the device list and choosing "transfer purchases". This will copy all media data bought in itunes to your computer.
A manual backup will save data to your computer. Right click and choose "backup" Make sure autosync is deactivated in itunes and at least one contact and event is set up on your computer to be able to get the merge prompt. See what's inside a backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Your iphone will be wiped during the first sync, you can restore it using the manual backup you made.

    Hi!
I understand that Computer 1 is synced and you see something like this when you access the Sync Tab under Preferences: https://support.mozilla.com/media/uploads/gallery/images/2011-01-27-15-46-25-9c0352.png
And in Computer 2 you get a window similar to this: https://support.mozilla.com/media/uploads/gallery/images/compcode.jpg
But when you click on Add Device the following window doesn't appear: https://support.mozilla.com/media/uploads/gallery/images/2011-01-27-15-46-48-5f59d1.png
Is this correct? If so, please let me know what you see (a screenshot will be handy).
You can also set up the second computer following this instructions: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How%20to%20sync%20Firefox%20settings%20between%20computers#w_what-if-im-not-near-my-first-computer

  • HT4864 syncing computers on different OS

I have a Mac tower running lion and macbook pro running snow leopard, and i phone, ipad and ipod.  i have been syncing all of my idevices on my macbook running leopard.  it always asks me if i want to back up to icloud, and i say yes, but when i go to my icloud account, it doesn't look like it is syncing.  is it?  or do i have to upgrade to lion to make icloud availible to my devices?
    thanks

As mentioned above your computer running snow leopard cannot use iCloud, it would need its operating system updating before you can use iCloud. Even then you cannot backup a computer to iCloud.
Can I suggest you get yourself an external hard drive and start using Time Machine or another back up utility. Data loss is often sudden and unexpected and far too late to do anything about in many cases.

  • HT4972 how do I tell the ipod which computer I normally use?  All of the computers i normally use to sync with tell me to use the computer I normally sync with?

how do I tell the ipod which computer I normally use?  All of the computers i normally use to sync with tell me to use the computer I normally sync with?

Then those are not the syncing computers. You can manage music among different computers.
What computer did you setup your iPod on and do updates on/?That is usually the syncing computer.

  • I just synced my iphone to a new computer and lost all my itunes libary.  It's on the computer but not on the phone.

I justtryed to sync my iPhone with a new laptop and lost my itunes library from the phone.  I'd already moved iTunes to the laptop.  What did I do wrong, and is there a way to reclaim the library?

Was the music purchased from iTunes?
Can you sync other music to the iPod?
What happens when you try to sync?
When you switch syncing computers you have to restore the iPod on the new computer. Did you do that?
You can only sync with one computer/iTunes library but you can manage music and videos among different computers. See:
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers

  • How do I hide some synced bookmarks on one computer (e.g., home bookmarks on a work computer)?

Firefox Sync is a great feature. I only have one problem. Some bookmarks on my home computer are not suitable for my work computer. How do I exclude or hide a single folder of bookmarks without actually deleting them on all synced computers?

I've read that Xmarks has the option to assign bookmarks to "synchronization profiles". You could then have one profile for "work bookmarks" that is synchronized across many computers or even separate firefox profiles while a profile for "personal bookmarks" may be synchronized with other computers.
The closest thing Firefox synch could support is creating separate firefox surfing profiles and synch accounts for each set of bookmarks you want to synch. You could then select from your profiles using the profile manager (make a shortcut to firefox that launches firefox with the -p or -profilemanager option (both work) "C:\..... firefox.exe -p". It's less convenient, but could work.
Ultimately, I'd love it if firefox would just enable synching bookmarks with certain tags (tag a bookmark work, it gets replicated on all firefox synch accounts with the work tag). People think in folders, but tags would be even better imho.

  • Is it possible to get iTunes to sync and match my iPhone? I recently bought a new Macbook and I transferred all of the music files on my old computer to the new one. I don't want all of the music files, only the ones also on my iPhone.

Basically I have a ton of music files in my iTunes library and included in all of those files are all of the music on my iPhone. I want iTunes to delete all of the songs in the library (and the song files on my computer) that are not on my iPhone.

You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
When you change syncing computers you have to/should have done this:

  • IPod Nano 6th gen. won't sync to iTunes 11 on Windows 8?

Hi, I recently acquired a new Windows 8 laptop and after installing iTunes 11 I decided to sync my iPod Nano 6th gen. My iPod was last synced to iTunes 10.6 on Windows 7. When I synced the iPod to the new laptop I was receiving the problem of the WDF_VIOLATION which had something do to with Windows 8 and iTunes 11 being in compatible. I changed the compatibilty settings for Itunes to Windows 7 and the error has passed. The problem left standing is that my iPod will now not sync the library. After clicking"sync" either a very fast recognition happens or nothing at all will hapen and either way I'm left with the same music as I had on the previous iTunes. Is there a reason or anything I can do to change this? Thanks

You can only sync with one iTunes library. See the following for switching syncing computers.
