Sync 2 dbs with fresh data
Hi -
I am pondering the "best" way to do the following:
We have a production db (8.17) and an upgrade instance of 10G.
The 10G is in test phase and data is stale - currently not refreshed for a few weeks.
What is the best method for syncing the 10G data with 8 db?
(note: the sync is only required for a limited number of fact tables in a data warehouse)
1. insert into 10G select * from 8db where,, then some date/time flag?
2. The tables are partitioned by year..So i was considering doing a partition exchange from the 8db to the 10db
3. dropping the 2007 partition in the 10G and just recreate it inserting all data from the 8.i 2007 partition
4. any other methods?

You can sync PIM data using a program called "Syncus" from a developer in the UK.
To get both devices to sync all the same info would require them to have the same HotSync ID. Since you're trying to sync a phone's data to a PDA, it would be a recipe for disaster on the TX!
There are lots of system files that belong only to phones, and not on PDA's.
Two of the same device would work much better. I'd just go with the great freeware program called "NVBackup" to keep everything safe. It will backup nightly (if you desire) to your SD card and make an exact mirror of all programs and data.

iTunes does not include a replace option from the iPhone for contact information, calendar events, email account setup information, and bookmarks, but the sync process for contact information, calendar events, and bookmarks is bidirectional between your iPhone and the support applications on your computer.
If your PC gets jammed up, you should be maintaining a backup of this data on your computer stored on an external drive used for backup purposes only, or on some other media such as CD or DVD. Anyone that does not maintain a backup of their important data stored on their computer's hard drive is playing Russian roulette with their data. It isn't a matter of if, but when your hard drive has a partial or complete failure since none last forever. Maintaining a backup is important regardless the platform, but even more so with a Windows PC due to constant virus, adware, and spyware concerns.
The iPhone is not designed nor intended to be used as a backup device, and should not be treated as such. Most people don't carry around their external drive used for backup purposes, and an iPhone can be lost or stolen. -
I have a macbook pro, and am trying to update my software. I recently bought an iphone 5, and my software is to out of date to sync my phone with itunes. I currently am running 10.5.8 and I need to update to atleast 10.6.8. Just wondering if I need to purchase it from apple or if there is an easy/free way to update it.

I have synced my ipad with my computer then downloaded latest ios version. How do I resync my data back to my ipad?
You Restore from iTune Backup.The syncing is towards the end of the Restore.
1. Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings
2. You'll be asked twice to confirm
3. You'll see Apple logo and progress bar
4. You'll see a big iPad logo on screen
5. Configuration start
6. Set language
7. Set country
8. Select Network and input Password>Join
9. Enable Location Service>Next
10. You'll be given 3 options (a) Setup as New iPad (b) Restore from iCloud Backup (c) Restore from iTune Backup
11. Select Restore from iTune Backup
12. You will see picture of USB cable pointing towards iPad
13. Connect iPad to iTune (make sure iTune is on standby)
14. Tap Continue (computer)
15. Restore iPad from Backup (computer)
16. See progress bar with estimated time (computer)
17. See Restore in Progress on iPad
18. See Apple logo
19. See Apple and Progress Bar
20. Slide to Unlock
21. Copying Apps back to iPad (computer)
22. You'll see Loading/Installing/Waiting below the Apps (iPad)
23. Sync Music/Podcast/Movies to iPad (computer)

when i go to sync my apps with my computer it tells me ''are you sure you want to sync apps ? all exsisting apps and there data on (iphone) will be replaced with the apps on this itunes library'' does this mean all my data will be lost if i continue ?
Regarding your broken, previously authorized computer, here's how that works:
You would authorize your new computer -- maybe you've done that already. Then you will have two computers authorized. Apple allows you to have up to five computers authorized at any time. If you get to five, you can then go to your account details in iTunes and remove all authorizations.
Bear in mind this is not saying you can synch to more tham one library. Razmee209 and gdgmacguy's comments above are correct. But if Apple only allowed you to authorize one computer at a time, then having a broken computer would mean you could no longer use your Apple ID with iTunes. -
i have multiple devices backed up to the same computer each with different data. how do i keep them from syncing all data when i back up or transfer stuff from the computer to a device? one is an iphone 6 and the others are ipad mini first gens, each ipad has 64gb and the iphone has 128, need to keep the data seperate as they are not all mine
Itunes content and pics are NOT part of the backup that itunes performs.

You should transfer any purchases from iphone regularly: File>Transfer Purchases , if they fail to be transferred when you sync.
You buy one and only one download. It is your responsibility to move/copy/backup your purchases.
You can try contacting itunes support and asking for an exception, but they are under no obligation to allow.

New PC: how can I sync my Iphone with a new PC without loosing data?
I have an old Windows Vista PC with Itunes.
I want to sync my iPhone4 with a new Windows 8 PC.
I only sync music and video with the iphone and itunes, NOT email adress contacts, etc (I do not want to mix and mingle all my contacts on PC and phone).
I DO want to take all the contacts to the new itunes.
Problem: When I connect my iphone to the new Windows 8 PC with the new Itunes, I get the warning that "all the data on the iphone will be replaced with the data on the Itunes", in other words: the iphone will be empty

Correct. The iphone is not a storage/backup device. It simply mirrors the selected content of the computer to which it is synced.
It should be very simple. Everything should be on your computer, or cloud service. The itunes simply allows your information from your computer, cloud service to be protable.
Copy everything to the new computer, then sync. -
I want to sync my iPad with a new laptop, so I can get rid of the old computer. I have already downloaded all the itunes content on the new laptop, but when i go to sync, it tells me that itunes will erase and copy all the apps from the new library. The 2 computers are on the same account, so is there a way to copy the apps (including app data) onto the new laptop, instead of vice versa?

I'm sure this is a common issue, and I've google-searched for solutions but I cannot find a straight forward answer anywhere. I really hope an expert here can help me out.
I purchased an iPad last year and synced it with my iTunes library on my old PC laptop. Well, my PC laptop harddrive crashed last week and I cannot access anything on my laptop anymore. I did not make a back-up for my PC harddrive either. I know, next time I should make a back-up and I will. But that's irrelevant. The PC is gone now.
I replaced my PC this week with a brand new Mac Book Pro. Excited about my new purchase, I quickly hooked up my iPad with the hopes of easily transferring and accessing my iPages, iNumbers, and other productivity iPad apps seamlessly to my new beautiful Mac Book Pro. But now I've run into the nightmarish dilemma of not being able to sync my beloved Ipad with my new MAC without getting the warning that basically says "your iPad is already synced with another iTunes Library. You may only sync to one iTunes Library at a time. You will lose all your data if you sync to this new computer."
Can someone give me a straightfoward answer as to how I can sync my iPad with my new iTunes Library on my new Mac Book Pro without losing any of the apps that I previously purchased? I want to be able to access the apps I downloaded on my iPad on my Mac Book Pro.

While it isn't as easy to just use a Mac iDevice as media storage as Android and Windows, you can add documents and such like Word, PDF and others manually in iTunes to have them sync as well.

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.
