Sync 2 Laptops to one share file?

I have an external hard drive attached to my home network where my music is stored and I wish to use this library on 2 different laptops, however when I add new files to the storage device (eg Automatically add to iTunes) via one laptop it only adds to the iTunes on that machine it does not update on the other laptop iTunes library. Is there a way to synchronise so both will add the new files to the library and I don't have to go and manually add folders to library?

My wife has MacBook Pro and a 2G iPhone, I have a Mac Pro and 3G. Calendars on all four devices in sync usually within a minute or two, whichever one is being used to add the info. Same for addresses and bookmarks.

and i couldn't get any answer for some of my doubts... so i decided to ask you Mac Users ..
My idea is to have an external HD to store files (and not to fill the 500gb of the iMac) ... and i am wondering if it would be possible to make this ...
- make three partitions on the external Hard Drive and
- the first be formatted in Mac OS extended (journaled) mode
- the second on fat 32 - so i can store and share files with a mac or pc
- third be reserved for Time Machine
i wonder would that be possible... or would make sort of incompabilities ... would it work all well ?

how did you formated the partition in NTFS ? ... on the mac? using the "disk utility" ? or did you use another program to do so ...?

Hi. I have several (4) Contact files in MS Outlook. At first I sync'd the main Contact file. I have three others and when I choose / browse another folder, I only see one other Contact folder which I can set as default and sync. My question is how can I set up Outlook to recognize my other (2) Contact folders? Weffy

I have retained a corporate Curve 8300 from my previous company. I want to transfer the contacts from my BB to my MS Outlook where i already have other contacts. I downloanded BB desktop mger 4.2.1.8 version, it actually syncs but iam unable to bring the contects to work with my Outlook.

Wirelessly connecting Windows laptops to an iMac G5 to share files Interne

I am wondering if someone could tell me how I can share files with windows PCs wirelessly but also securely. I have setup a network so that Windows PCs can access my iMac G5 that connects to the Internet through the airport card. I can get the windows PCs (laptops) to access the Internet through my iMac G5's airport card but I also want to share files back and forth wirelessly between the Windows PC laptops and the iMac G5. I am able to view all my iMac G5 files on my Windows PCs but that's not what I want. Isn't there a way to make it more secure so that only a shared folder is available for access by the Windows PCs? Right now if I go into Windows and setup a "My Network Places" then the PC has access to all those files on my iMac and that's not what I want. At this point someone with access to my iMac G5 could just wipe out everything. Not secure at all.
Could you guys give a novice some pointers?
I am still having problems with this. I can get my laptop to share my internet connection with my mac, but once I set a password on my Mac--well I can't get my laptop to connect. It is quite strange.

I tried to follow the directions on the link he suggested, but I'm using OS 10.3.9, so maybe that is the reason the directions are not exactly the same for my system.

Even though this is the case, I got my iMac to share it's internet connection and now I'm able to access the Windows vista laptop files on my iMac. Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

somewhere on the windows machineshould be something like "network setup wizard". exactly where it is and what it is called i cannot remember off the top of my head, windows help is actually slightly useful here, it should have a link to it.
all the options checked on the mac are only what services the mac is offering to other machines, they have nothing to do with the services it can access (mostly...).
oh yeah, to actually connect to the pc after you have turned its sharing on, use the finder, or, when it does not show the pc (this happens on and off, possibly a refresh problem apple...) choose go --> connect to server and enter smb://<pc's name or ip>
to find the ip, the easiest way i think is
start --> run --> cmd ->> ipconfig

Laptop, Desktop, one ipod...is there any way to sync it all up?

I'm sure this question gets asked weekly, but I'd like the songs and metadata at home to exactly sync with the songs and metadata at work. That way my most often played actually changes based on my work numbers (among other cool benefits).
So, with apple products, is this possible or no? do I have to go get some 3rd party software to pull it off?

Nope.
The concept of sync is that one computer is the controlling device and the iPod syncs to it.

Byword on Mac syncs nicely with Byword on iOS.
Ulysses 3 on Mac syncs nicely with Daedalus Touch.
BUT, cross-sync is not possible.... :/

Cross-sync only works if an app on the iDevice allows it. For example, some apps (editors) sync with Dropbox (icloud usually isn't the thing to use) but only in their own folders.
If you save a file from the mac to it's own folder, A, on dropbox and on the device you use a different app that uses its own folder, B, then you won't be able to reach folder A on the device.
One thing to look for in editors that support Dropbox (most do, on a device - clearly all do on a mac) is whether they access dropbox using the root folder. From there you can drop down to any subfolder and reach the files you want.

Enable File and Printer Sharing on each computer.Also make sure both the computer's are in the same workgroup...
The default workgroup name in Windows Vista has been changed to WORKGROUP. In WindowsXP, the default workgroup name is MSHOME...
Also go into the computer software firewall on each computer, and set it to "trust" the other computers on your network.
If your firewall or PC security program keeps a list of trusted applications (also known as a "trusted zone"), then make sure that your router is in the trusted zone on your firewall...

I have a new Mac running Lion. My wife has a MacBook running OS X 10.6.8.
How do I share files between the 2 machines. Her laptop shows up in my Finder and my Mac shows up in her Finder. We try to copy files and it looks like they are copied (using iPhoto export), but there is nothing there. When I try to browse her laptop from my Mac, I am told I don't have permission.
Is this something that can be done? I would like to think so.

Best way to share files between computers?

Hi,
I have a MBP & a G5 and I am doing video editing with FCP & web-designing with
Dreamweaver on both of the computers. The problem is that I have been using
the two computers completely separate.
For example, if I create a project on my laptop, I can't go to my desktop and continue it
unless I copy the files to a zip drive (or something similar) and manually transfer the files.
And then I don't know which files are actually up to date.
Is there any simple way that I can have the two computers produce, access & share files easier?
I do have a .mac account but I don't know much about it's capabilities?
I could really use some help and advise here.

I had the exact same question/ problem a couple of days ago. I think in your case, working with large video files, .mac might not be an option.
I would say you either work of an external drive (maybe connected as a shared drive wirelessly) as it was suggested to me, or you use a file sync utility like ChronoSync to keep both machines mirrored.
