Sync Address Book and bookmarks

My wife has an iphone, currently syncing via cable to her group of contacts in my address book on my iMac. I am about to buy my first iphone, and will be using icloud. Can icloud be set to sync with just my contact group in address book across my two devices - ipad and new iphone? Or am I going to get my wife's contacts as well on my phone? On the iPad we have ended up with all the Address book contacts in two groups, hers and mine. No problem here, but a pain on my new iphone potentially...
Also, I use Firefox on the iMac. Any way to sync the bookmarks across to Safari on the iPad?

AFAIK iCloud will sync all your contacts. It would be better if she had her own iCloud account - after all it's free - and then she can sync her own Address Book: however she would also need her own user account on your Mac. If you are both using the same user account you can only sync with one iCloud account and as far as iCloud is concerned you are one person.
There is no way of automatically syncing bookmarks with FireFox; you can import them but it's a manual process and then you would have to add changes manually.

How to sync Address Book, iCal, Bookmarks between my iMac and Macbook?

Geez, ya big meanie, give the guy a break. Not everyone wants to spend $50 on a syncing solution! He just asked a question, and you heap attitude on him about his finances. Not your business!
5480, syncing that information between two Macs is both easy and tricky at the same time. It’s easy because you really can just copy the files back and forth. But it can get tricky if, for instance, you were to change information on both sides. Then you’ve got two different versions! The general solution to this is to be pretty careful about only changing data on one side at a time. If you add some contacts on one side, don’t go working in Address Book on the other side until you’ve copied the new info over.
“Exporting” the data, burning to CD, and then importing it on the other Mac would be a total pain in the ***, though. Much too time consuming. What you need to do, if you don’t want to pay for a solution (I didn’t for ages), is just learn to hook your computers together on a network, and copy over the relevant files directly (no exporting, no CD burning). Address Book, iCal and bookmarks data is all stored in folders in your Library folder. You just copy it over! Be sure to quit the applications before moving the data.
Where exactly are these files, you say? How do you network? Figuring out the details is your homework assignment, but the method works. Good luck!

How to sync Address Book and iCal with Samsung GT-S5670 (Galaxy Fit) with Android 2.2 running?
Couldn't find any iSync Plug-in nor software for Samsung phones fitting ...
    Thanx for any help!

    Hello,
if you need to sync your media files as well, you might want to have a look at FoneSync for Android. It features an iTunes like interface and syncs contacts, calendars, music and photos.

  • Address Book and Bookmarks

I recently got an iBook G4 and I would like to share my address book and bookmarks for Safari from my iMac G5, so I have that same info on both computers. Is there an easy way to do that? I have an airport wireless network in my house so I use the dsl connection with both. Thanks!

You could Export all your addresses from the one computer and import them onto the other computer. Just Highlight all your cards and click Export ~ You can save it to your Desktop and then email it to yourself on your other computer. Then, when you get the email on your other computer, open the email, and click on the vCard you've sent yourself. It will import all the cards to your address book.

  • I fixed my iSync Problem it now syncs Address book and iCal on 10.4.9

Ever since updating to the latest version of OS X 10.4.9 iSync didn't work anymore with my Sony Z520i.
Neither Address Book or iCal wouldn't sync at all and I tried everything even a fresh erase and Install.
Someone here on this forum told me to delete the folder SyncServices found in ~/library/Aplicatrion Support/SyncServices. I did that but it still didn't work so I replaced the same folder from the trash. I then launched iSync again, it did sync my address book only. I couldn't select the option for iCal in iSync anymore until I resynced my iCal in my Mac prefrences, after that I could select it in iSync but it would still fail.
So I deleted two files that belong to iCal located in ~/library/Aplication Support/iCal the two files are sync.plist and syncState.plist
When I tried it it worked perfectly iSync synced both address book and iCal and I have been testing it without any problems updating my address book and iCal for the last few days.
    It's 100% fixed :)

You only get the one hour difference if the Time Zone or Daylight saving setting is set incorrectly on your phone, or if you are viewing events before the last time the clocks changed (March), or after the next time the clocks change (October).

  • Sync address book and MobileMe

I have all my contacts in Address Book and I sync my iPhone 3GS via MobileMe.  And  apparently what I'd like to do it not possible.
I want to keep all my contacts in AB, but  only have certain groups on the iPhone so I do have to wade thru all of them when looking to make a call, send email, etc.
    Is this possible or not?

Yes it is possible, I do the same thing with my iPad.  Basically you create a new Group in Addressbook that you want on your iPhone.  Drag the contacts you want included to that group.  In iTunes you sync only that group to the phone.
I'm not at the system I use for iPhone/iPad syncing so I can't give the specific options in iTunes at the moment.

  • Sync address book and calendar 8830 with 8130 via DM

I just changed from using an 8130 and now use an 8830.  I assumed I could use DM to backup my 8130 and then restore it to my 8830.  However, when I do this, many items do migrate, but not 2 of the most important ... my address book and calendar.  Both are personal devices and are not linked with any work email server, so that's not the issue.  I do notice that in the backup file from my 8130 the address book is called "Address Book - All" and similar with the calendar.  However, with the 8830, it is labeled as only "Address Book".  I'm wondering if this is the problem?  I'm hoping someone can help me get my address book and calendar migrated to my new device.
    Thanks!
BTW, I already tried wiping the new 8830 ... that did nothing.

In Desktop Manager, use the application Switch Device Wizard.

  • Syncing Address book and Exchange 2007 - some problems

    Hello,
I do have a weird problem, not all of my contacts are uploaded to exchange when I create them in Address Book. I need this so that exchange pushes them on my Blackberry.
In Address Book 5 (Snow Leopard), I do have 2 accounts : On My Mac and Exchange.
Do I need to copy them over? If yes, then, how to avoid duplicates?
    Thanks beforehand for your help.
    Jean-Francois.

Since Apple does not even support public folders of the type "mail" for their Apple Mail, I doubt they will support "contact" PFs any time soon. Your only chance will be to add the information from your contact PFs to you Active Directory as "Contacts". These will be shown in your Exchange GAL, which is accessible with Address Book and your Outlook users will still be able to also use the contacts.

  • What exactly is the process that syncs address book and calendar to google?

I have been syncing with google somewhat successfully for the past 6 months or so, but I am still confused about exactly how it's working.
I have my calendar set up as a caldav account, and it appears to be working fine.  I would like to know if calendar still syncs even if the calendar application is not open.  I tend to leave it open, but I don't know if that is necessary.  Also, I don't understand if calendar has anything to do with isync.  I am referring to the little isync icon in the menu bar.  Does a caldav account have anything to do with that, or does it sync on its own?
The address book is a little more confusing.  From what I have figured out, it only syncs manually by clicking the little isync icon in the menu bar.  Is that correct?  Is there no way for it to sync automatically like I think caldav accounts do in calendar?  Also, I wonder about the application here too.  Does the application have to be open for address book to sync with google?
Thanks, I hope someone can explain this a little better!
PS- I am actually running 10.6.8, but don't see an option for that in my product details.

I could sit here and do a bunch of tests, I suppose.  I'd have to disable my internet connection before opening the ical and address book applications to see if it syncs without being open.  Because I assume it could just refresh upon launching the application.  I wish someone could just gice me a clue here.  Anyone?

  • Sync Address Book and Entourage backfired - 3000 Entourage Contacts lost!

I have set up sync services in Entourage to sync with Apple Adress Book, to be able to sync with iPhone and MobileMe. I have chosen Address Book entries to be replaced by Entourage entries
When I deleted all entries in my Adress Book (to make room for a limited sync with iPhone), all my 3000 contacts in Entourage started disappearing, an now all are gone. It seems that the sync suddenly reversed. How can this happen without warning? What can I do to get my Entourage contacts back?
(I have a backup at MobileMe, but then I will lose all my categories etc. when re-importing to Entourage.)

I had a similar issue. I was able to sync my iPhone back to my Mac and that restored the addresses although all the categorization was lost. I have no idea why this happened to you.

  • My MacBook Pro was erased and back up on external drive was reloaded.  How do I reload my address book and bookmarks?

When my MacBook Pro was erased and reloaded, my address book, stickies and bookmarks on all my browsers were gone!  How can I re-load the old contents.  I've looked at all the back-ups.  I find the applications, but not the contents.

    You had two choices:
1- you save the files from your user library
2- use icloud which would put them back
    You used neither is seems.

  • Can I sync Address Book and iCal to put contact info into iCal?

I use Address Book as a contact/customer list and use iCal to prepare my schedule for work. I usually type in the name of the customer I want to see in iCal. Is there anyway to import or drag names out of Address Book into iCal so the location & contact info will be included? I don't want to invite the customer. I just want to input the info into iCal so I don't have retype a name that is already in my Address Book.
If I have customer "xxx" in Adress Book and I am planning on visiting this customer tomorrow. Is there anyway for me to transfer/import this info to iCal without physically typing "xxx"? When I look at my appointment I would love to see the contact info for "xxx" in iCal when I click on individual appointments.
    I hope this makes sense.

    Hi,
You can link to the Address Book entry with a URL. See my script +Link to Address Book+ on this page http://www.nhoj.co.uk/applescripts/ which creates a link from the currently selected person in Address Book. These can then be added to the URL field in iCal or the notes field if you have more than one per event.
    Best wishes
    John M

  • ISync crashes when syncing Address Book and Google contacts

This is the crash report I get in the console when I try to sync my contacts. I have my iPhone plugged in and the correct password for my Google account.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Ronan

No application crashed for me but the sync stopped working and I got the same error message when I added an "Instant Messaging" attribute of type "Skype" to one of my Google contacts. It synced again when I removed it. • Syncing Address book and iCal on 2 computers and iPhone

I am trying to sync my iPhone with my laptop, but also with my desktop at work. Is there a way to do this without a .mac account. Is there a way to do this. I have my own server and ftp accounts, so it doesn`t make sense for me to get a .mac account.
My old Treo gave me the ability to update whichever software I was syncing to. But the iPhone seems to just wipe out the old stuff for the new.
    Thanks,
    Christian

You can synchronize .Mac data types—with the exception of keychains, which are not supported—using SyncTogether from Mark/Space.
Synchronizing .Mac data types is a much more complicated process than simply having a server which runs FTP, WebDAV or other services.

  • Sync Address Book and Calendars

I have an iPhone, a PC at work that uses an Exchange server, a PC at home that uses Outlook to POP mail from my personal email account, and an iMac at home that also POPs mail from my personal account.
My iPhone is set up to get mail from both my work (Exchange) account and my personal account.
I have a separate contacts folder at work (Exchange) with personal contacts, and a business contacts folder. I have a single Calendar at work that contains both personal and business information.
My iPhone has both contact folders and the calendar. I would like to be able to sync what is in my iPhone to my work, my personal PC and my iMac. If I make a change at any location, I would like the change to propagate to all other locations. I would also like to be able to see my calendar from all locations.
I started a trial membership to MobileMe yesterday. It created 2 calendar folders on my personal Outlook (Home and Work), but they are both empty. It has not synchronized my contacts. It has also created Home and Work calendars on both my iPhone and in iCal, but again, both are empty.
I did a sync from iTunes in my iMac and my personal PC. I did not do anything with my work PC. My iPhone is setup for Exchange ActiveSync.
Am I missing something, or does the system not have the capability of syncing everything as I had hoped?

Pick one of the two accounts and sign both of them into it?
