Sync address book from computer to phone

I want to sync my address book on my mac air to my iphone5 but itunes says it is going to use Microsoft Exchange to sync.  What does that mean?  I didn't do it cause it didn't seem right.

I thought that I did. In INFO>Contacts in my itunes it asked me to sync address book contacts. These contacts I do not care to have on my phone. But my phone contacts are not in my address book. How can I just sync my phone contacts to my computer. So when I restore it I can just sync those right back to my phone. I am not seeing an option for this.

No you can sync them over a local network or USB cable, you just can't do so by iCloud.
The other option would be to sync your mobile devices with iCloud and use the contacts feature at iCloud.com rather than the Address Book when using the computer.

  • How to sync address book from mac to iPad

Hello, I bought my husband an iPad and cannot figure out how to copy our address book from Apple mail on our MAC to his iPad. Need help! Thank you.

    Method 1:
Connect the iPad to the Mac.
Open iTunes (and wait until the Backup is finished).
Select the iPad in the left Sidebar (switch it on with alt-command-S).
Switch to the second Tab at the top named "info".
    Check the Button Contacs.
    Click "synchonize" down right.
After the Sync is done, the Adresses are on the iPad.
    Method 2:
Activate the iCloud-Account in Macs System Prefs or in Address Book directly.
Activate the iCloud-Accouunt on the iPad and switch the Addresses-Slider to on.
After Some Minutes, the Adresses are copyed via the Cloud to Your iPad.

  • How to sync address book from OS 10.7 to 10.6

Is there any way to sync my address book from 10.7 to 10.6 ?  Is there a work-around?

I actually found the solution on another page.  If I go into iTunes while my iPhone is plugged in, I just needed to click on the "Info" tab of iPhones in iTunes and then click on "Sync Address Book Contacts," since it wasn't checked after the upgrade.  Simple solution when you know what the answer is.

  • Retrieving address book from previously registered phone

I had my hardware replaced in my phone to increase the speed and had to register my phone as a brand new phone instead of syncing to my previously registered settings. My dilemma now is that for some reason I do not have my contacts in my addressbook anymore. IS there a way to retrieve the information from my previously registered settings? Hope this makes sense... going crazy without my contacts ;(

What? There's no official way to do that. Do you mean you replaced the whole phone?
had to register my phone as a brand new phone
You should have been given the option of restoring from your previous backup or setting the phone up as a new device. Restoring from backup is what you should have selected.
I do not have my contacts in my addressbook anymore
That's because you synced to an empty phone & the sync process is designed to make everything the same.
So, if your contacts are not on your phone & not in address book on your computer, they are most likely gone unless you regularly backup your computer or your last iphone backup contains them(doubtful at this point). When you sync, the first thing done is an iphone backup, which overwrites your existing backup. If you've already performed a sync, that means your existing backup would have been overwritten, removing contact data stored there.

  • Trying to Sync Address Book from TungstenC to Desktop without success - HELP!

I have changed computers.  My new computer (PC) runs c MicroSoft Office Professional 2007.  I loaded the Palm Desktop software from the original disc (2003).  I have been able to Sync all of my other programs x my Address Book.  I get a message that states that my desktop is "full."  It also states that I should delete some files and try again.  All of my Address Book remains on my palm -> simply will not transfer to my desktop into the Palm program.  Any thoughts???  Thank you!

  • Importing address book from computer to iCloud, issues?

i get an error message saying the v-card i'm importing is invalid, there are only 258 cards in my address book. It has also deleted all contacts from my iphone, so i obviously would like them back, and i thought icloud would be an easy way to do this. I know i can do it through itunes, i just wanted to see icloud working as i use 2 macs and my phone, and i'm away from my main one (imac) alot of the time.

Here is what I have discovered to date - it appears that the iPhone 3G does not store contact/address book information on the SIM card but rather stores this information on the phone's hard drive. As such, when the car display indicates that the car is ready to receive "business cards", what this means is that the bluetooth system is ready to import contact information from a phone's SIM card - NOT possible with the iPhone.
Because I had recently purchased my iPhone, and because I had my "old" phone with most (if not all) of my contact information on its SIM card, I was in luck !
The process will be time consuming for me (maybe a different type of phone would speed the process - my "old" phone is a Nokia).
The process I am using requires that my old phone also be "linked" to my car and then individually select each contact in my old phone and "send" to my Mercedes.
This process is working but takes time - worth it to me to have an "address book" in my car.
As a side note, as I develop more "contacts" in my iPhone, to incorporate them into my Mercedes address book will require that I manually retype the entry into my old phone's SIM card(referring to the contact information stored in my iPhone of course)and then send the contact to the car using the process above.
Lastly, someone suggested that the new iPhone operating system (due out next month) might do something to help us.
Hope this post helps others - Steve

  • Syncing address book from a Mac

After several years of easily syncing my BlackBerry Curve 8530 to my Mac, I suddenly can't do it.  I get the following error message:  The Address Book database cannot be accessed for synchroniztion.  For help resolving this issue, refer to KB19454 in the BlackBerry Desktop Software Knowledge Base.
I can't find KB19454 in the database.  I can't find a way to call BlackBerry to resolve this.  My Sprint store won't touch my Mac (and vice versa).  Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
    thank you.

  • Sync of Address Book from computer to MobileMe is only partial & smartgroup

I cleaned out my AB on Mobile Me and also my 2 computers, to start fresh. In past syncs have gone okay. But I synced the AB on one machine to Mobile Me and the AB had 600 contacts but only 572 ended up on MobileMe. Then I checked the other Mac and when it synced with MM, only those 572 came in.
Also, although in the 600 grouping there were some smart groups, the groups didn't transfer up to MM = but checking the 572 on Mac#2, I see duplicate Groups. I have the same 572 but the smartgroups they are part of are not on MM but do show up on my Mac#2.
What I would like is [1] clean off all AB contacts everywhere except the Master machine, {2} sync the Master machine's 600 entries over to MM and then to Mac#2 and have the smart groups only show up once and not duplicated.
Not sure what is going on but would appreciate help.
The contact master is on a 10.5.7 machine, the #1 Mac is a SnowLeopard machine, if that matters.

So here's another reason why I don't like the Pre.   My contacts were sent to the Per at the store then we wiped the 800 (to put it on Ebay) So the contacts are only in the Pre.   What good is back up if I can't use it? You'd think the palm server would be able to send the stuff back to my Outlook????
Thanks for your reply.... Guess I'm stuck plugging in all the numbers one at a time before I take the phone back.

  • I am unable to sync my playlist from computer to phone

shows up in the playlist, all the boxes are checked, it is instructed to sync, i've gone from individual songs to checking the entire library ... and it still says unable to sync, 26 songs missing.
I've about had it.  If there truly is an answer, i would sincerely appreciate it.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

    Hello,
    One more thing to try:
    Reset your sync history.
Go into Applications and launch iSync. Click the iSync menu and click Preferences. The Reset Sync History button is towards the bottom, underneath Advanced.
After this, verify your settings are still set correctly, and sync again.

Then it should work just the same as on your old computer.

  • Why won't my computer's address book sync ALL of my contacts with my iPhone?  no MobileMe, no iCloud, just straight from computer to phone.

Why won't my computer's address book sync ALL of my contacts with my iPhone?  No MobileMe, no iCloud, just straight from computer to phone.  I have checked all the settings and all seems correct.  It simply won't pull in all of the contacts.  Last time, it added some new ones, but deleted others.

I found the route of the problem! All the songs under 'On This Phone' are completely grayed out! The only question is now how do I ungray them???
