Sync and ical/multiple users

Can I have two computers (macbook and emac) running the same calendar? Both to be able to read and write? Does only one have to be read write and the other read only? How do you use your laptop to make changes "on the road" if the desktop is the publisher?

To do so, you must synchronize your calendars using .Mac Sync and a .Mac account, or the alternative MySync application which does not require that you establish a .Mac account.

Calendar synchronization is an all-or-nothing proposition: you must synchronize all of your calendars if you synchronize any. This is unlike the process of publishing read-only calendars, where you can choose which of your iCal calendars to publish via .Mac or a WebDAV server.

  • Windows XP and authorizing multiple users on same computer

What is the best way to share songs and authorize multiple users (unique XP users on the same computer)?
Are all users on XP considered to be on unique authorized computerers?
    Thank you.

Authorization is done on a per-OS basis; all users on one OS installation are considered to be on the same computer.

  • Powerbook G4 and iphone sync and ical not updating

my ical does not update it's info when syncing with my iphone. I've selected that option for the calendar under info. also when entering new events in ical and then exiting then reopening the ical application the newly created event is not there? I've received all my mac updates. I've reloaded the os 10.5.8 software and still no resolution.

iPhone 3GS I think only supports Leopard and up.. Tiger I don't think will work.

  • How to sync and charge multiple iPad Minis?

My family has 5 iPad Minis and 3 iPhones (2x 4s and 1x 4), and I have been looking for a better way to manage these devices.  I have a solution for everything but the USB hub.  My computer only charges the first two plugged in, although it will allow me to sync all at one time.  I'm looking for a way to charge and sync them all at once.  I've been looking for a powered usb hub that will accomplish this, but so far, I'm not having much success.  Everything under $500 I've come across says they won't charge iPads (or more than 2).  However, I noticed somewhere that iPad mini only requires 1.0 A vs the 2.1A for the iPad.  Is this true?  If so, does anyone have any experience with powering and syncing multiple iPads, and if so, what device did you use?
    Thank you in advance!!

It sounds like this will solve my problem:

  • Sync Selected Songs - Multiple Users

    Hi Guys,
We have three Ipods (2 Nanos, and a Shuffle) that sync to our library. All are set to sync only selected songs.
Every time one user selects their songs, and syncs, the next user will see the same selections for the previous user. Basically, each user's selections are saved globally, rather than for each Ipod.
Is there a way to save the selection lists independantly for each user? This way, each person will not override the other, and have to reset their selection list each time.
    Thanks in advance,
    John

Are you syncing by checking and unchecking songs? Using unchecking to manage an iPod is an option (and works fine when you are working with a small number of specialised tracks such as Christmas songs that you want to keep off the iPod during the year for example) but only if you can live with the other things unchecking does:
Unchecking is not selective, an item is either checked or it's not so it affects all the playlists an item might appear in.
Unchecked songs will be skipped when playing songs from the library or a selection. They will only play when individually clicked on.
Smart Playlists have an option that unchecked songs won't appear.
Unchecked songs will not be burned to CD.
Genius and iTunesDJ will not use the songs that are unchecked.
Basically unchecking is a way of telling iTunes to ignore the item and exclude it from other automatic features.
Another method you can use to auto-sync your iPods with iTunes is "Sync Music - Selected Playlists". Syncing selected playlists is just like syncing your whole library only on a smaller scale and more "selectively". This is particularly useful when your library is larger than the capacity of your iPod. When your iPod is is set to sync selected playlists it automatically picks up any changes you made to that playlist in iTunes since you last connected. Anything you added to the playlist will be added to the iPod, anything you deleted from it will be deleted from the iPod. In other words the iTunes playlist and the iPod are kept "in sync".
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update each iPod from, call them -iPod1, -iPod2, -iPod3 for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). Drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. Now connect the first iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you made for this iPod from the selection and click Apply. Repeat the process for each of the other iPods in turn.: Syncing Music to iPod

  • Sync iTunes Between Multiple Users

    Hi all,
I"m trying to sync my iTunes library between two user accounts on my MacPro. Currently, the library is being stored on my secondary hard drive. Both accounts are able to see that same folder and playback and save to it but if I modify the library in one user it doesn't affect both of them.
Is there a way for me to sync them so that the playlists and other changes like when I add new songs match up?
ALso, is there any good way to sync not only between these two drives but also with my macbook either via network or over the internet.

I have been trying to do this between 4 users on one iMac for a while now. From what I have seen there is no way to have all iTunes libraries stay synced with one another. Kind of dumb considering you can do it with iPhoto libraries and they all stay up to date and synced.
The instructions that Apple gives says to manually add the files you upload in one account to the others by going into preferences and un-checking the box that says "Copy files to iTunes Folder" and then going into the iTunes Library file that you have in your public place and dropping it into iTunes to register it with your other iTunes libraries.
This to me is a ridiculously overcomplicated and tedious way of doing this and is my biggest problem with iTunes. If the reason for doing it is so that users can adjust the libraries to their own styles it should at least be something that you can toggle on/off. Oh well, maybe in the future this will be addressed but I doubt it.

  • Why do my photos on my computer take up 5.5 GB but syncing them to my iPod Touch they take up around 15 GB, and why can I only select one folder to sync, and not multiple folders?

I have wiped the iPod a few times and tried from different computers. All the small things get more frustrating every day with apple.

    DrNicT61 wrote:
I'm a little confused how that would help the problem I have...care to explain it a little differently?
The Camera roll, on the iPod Touch, is where photos taken by the iPod (if it has a camera), screenshots and downloaded pictures are stored. Since they have "originated" on the iPod they are not on your computer - yet. So the total size of the photos on your iPod (in your case 15GB) will be made up of photos you have synced from your computer (5.5GB) and the Camera Roll of 9.5GB.
In the Photos App, notice the line named Photo Library (I mentioned it in my previous post). That folder contains all the photos synced form your computer. If there is an extra line above the Photo Library, named Saved Photos, this is the Camera Roll and it is where those screenshots, downloaded pictures and camera shots are listed.
Cruicially, if you ever need to Restore your iPod, the Camera Roll (Saved Photos) will be deleted, so you may wish to save the contents of the Camera Roll onto your computer. My method is; when the iPod is connected to iTunes, look in My Computer for an extra drive (it should show an iPod icon) and copy them from there to a folder on my computer. If I want them on your iPod, I paste them into one of the folders I intend to use for Syncing with the iPod. Once they have been successfully saved, I can go back the My Computer/the iPod and delete them from the Camera Roll.

  • Problem with iTunes and multiple user accounts in Windows

I am running iTunes on a PC (Windows XP) and have multiple user accounts. When I switch between user accounts and try to open iTunes, I get a message that tells me I can't open the program because another user is using it. Is it really true that I can only have iTunes open in one user account at a time on a PC with multiple user accounts ?!? If not, what am I doing wrong?

You are right, can only have one open. You have to log out of a user before logging in to another user to use iTunes. Do not use the fast user switching ability of Windows.

I have an iMac with 2 internal drives and a multiple user account set-up.  Hw do I create a path to store data files on the second drive within an application?

This is the Mac mini forum not the iMac forum however...
Applications written for average users like Photoshop, Word, i.e. GUI based applications provide a 'Save' dialog box which while allow selecting second drives or any drive. The dialob box initially shown might be in the simple mode but you just need to click on the triangle to show the full set of options. You should then see the different drive names amongst other options.
If your referring to an application your writing yourself then you need to build a pathname. This can be in one of two styles depending on the programming system your using. This could be a POSIX style path or a Mac style path.
    POSIX = /Volumes/volname/foldername
    Mac style = Volname:foldername:

  • One Projector with shared casts and Multiple Users

I created a training program that was originally meant for
one user at a time. Now the client wants to
install the app on a network and have multiple users run the
same projector. When this is tested, an error comes up saying
    that
a shared cast is already open by another user and will not allow
anyone else to run the app at the same time.
I was told there was a work around for this but have not been
able to track it down in the forums yet. If you know the solution,
please hit me back as soon as possible as you can imagine I am in
    the hot seat. ;)
either hit me back here, OR directly at my email address:
    [email protected]
    Thanks!

Make sure that the projector file and all the external casts
    are set to
read-only. Then multiple users should be able to share them
    all.

  • HT1529 I have multiple users on my Mac and I was wondering how you tell the system to retain all the user names so they don't have to enter their email addresses every time ???

I have multiple users on my Mac and I was wondering how you tell the system to retain all the user names so they don't have to enter their email addresses every time ???

    Email addresses into what?
Each user should have their own account and password to log in.  Each is independent of the other.  So for Mail each has their own Mail account if they set one up in Mail.
That's the way it should be set up.  Are you using a single account and allowing multiple users to use that one single account?  If so then in Mail at least you could set up individual mail accounts.  But everything else in the system is shared.

  • Ipod touch and ical

I'm looking at buying a new ipod and i was separately looking at buying a PDA.
However, the only things i want from a PDA are to be able to make new appointment details in a calendar, sync to ical and to create to-do lists.
Could i do all of this in the ipod touch?
Are there any drawbacks to the ipod touch ical facility as of the last software update?
Anything else i need to know as a new user?

Probably best to go and re-post in the iSync or iCal forums.
Windows Mobile / Pocket PC. My view is that anything Windows-based is out of the question as you'll need third party software like mark/space or PocketMac Pro. The latter doesn't work in any fashion whatsoever (I did fight with their support for 15mths to give me something for my money but never once got a good sync). I've not tried mark/space but I wasn't prepare to throw more money away.
Mobile Phone. Currently I use a Sony Ericsson mobile phone which could hardly be described as a PDA but it syncs with iCal (multiple read and single write calendars and add, edit and complete To Dos) and add, edit and delete Address Book entries. That is all I need and the iPod touch is approaching this limited level of capability.
Palm. Some Palm devices will work with iSync. I'd guess for a fully featured PDA look at Palm.
iSync compatible devices. Like I say best to ask elsewhere for more informed opinion but the above should give you the basis to ask the right questions.
    cheers

  • Icloud not syncing with Ical on iphone4s

My ical (6 calendars) on my macbook pro is sycing fine when I check my ical on icloud.com
But, ical on my iphone 4s isn't matching what I have on icloud.com
All of my calendars seem to be syncing - except for one. The title of my calendar  showing up on the calendar list - but NONE of the events are showing up.  They are showing up on my macbook pro, as well as icloud.com - but not on my iphone.
I recently just fixed a battery drain issue with my iphone and realized it was from ical.  But, now for some reason its not working right.
I have re-booted my phone, turned off icloud sync with ical multiple times, etc.
Let me know what you think.
