Sync Apple TV to Itunes

If you have purchased movies on Apple TV can you sync them back to iTunes. The purpose is to then copy them onto iPad. If there is another way to copy directly to iPad (although I doubt it) please let me know. Many tx

Winston,
Yes I have 2 libraries from the same laptop. I did select delete from the appletv tab on iTunes preferences but it still shows on the apple tv screen under computers. Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this?
Also I have another issue. (apologies in advance if these are rudimentary questions, but I am 1 week into this). I thought that the primary library could not only run programs that are synced but also stream from programs on iTunes from the laptop. I can't view any programs from my primary library on apple tv unless they are synced. When I try to watch a streamed show it says "format was not recognized". Any thoughts??
Tnx
Kristen

how can i sync apple tv 2nd generation with my itunes library?

You cannot sync your Apple TV with your iTunes library, the Apple TV has no storage for content.
You can stream the contents from your iTunes library using homesharing on the Apple TV 2.

  • Syncing Apple TV and iTunes by third party wireless router - solution?

I have been having lots of problems syncing my Apple TV with iTunes ever since I installed iTunes 7.6 including, Apple TV not appearing/disappearing in devices list, content not authorized, etc. I followed troubleshooting help, asked in store for advice, re-installed everything - nothing worked.
Last night I installed the new combo 10.5.2 update and still got nowhere.
However, I accidently disconnected the power to my wireless router (BT Homehub) and restarted it and iTunes recognised Apple TV and started to sync!!!
So at last I have content on my Apple TV again. Only comment is that syncing is extremely slow, but at least it's working now.

I think your problem comes from unchecking the files. Unchecking will affect all devices synced with iTunes. Likely the easiest thing to do is edit the syncing method to sync selected playlists then manage the playlist contents.

  • Problem syncing Apple TV with iTunes

    Hi,
I just purchased an Apple TV, but after it finished syncing with my iTunes, I noticed a alert symbol next to the device entry in iTunes, upon clicking it, the following message appeared on my screen
"Tip 24: Fill Shapes with Any Image" was not copied to the Apple TV because it could not be found"
I do not have a clue what this "Tip 24" is. How do I stop getting this alert every time I sync my Apple TV with iTunes??
    Thanks for your help.

you have to remove it from your itunes library.
spotlight won't find it, as the reference is in your itunes library, the file is missing apparently to spotlight has nothing to find.

  • Syncing Apple TV and iTunes??

    Hi -
I am having the worst time with my Apple TV. I am trying to sync it to iTunes on my laptop and not copy over shows that I have downloaded to my laptop. I have tried checking every variation of box on the iTunes menus to tell it not to do this, but everytime I hit the "sync" button it starts to transfer a show I do not want moved over.
    Please help!!

You can only sync from one library but it also streams content that isn;t synced.
You can stream from up to four other libraries as well (or is it five? I can't work out if the one yuo sync from counts as one of the extra streaming libraries or not).

  • Display and Syncing Apple TV in iTunes for Windows

I have been out of luck getting my Apple TV to display and sync properly in iTunes for some time now. I found a solution to share. I enabled UPnP on my router and voila, no more problems.

After lots of research and trial & error I have answered my own question. Hope this helps anyone with the same issue.
When I purchased ATV3 I wired it directly to my router. In ATV3 under Settings > General > Network, I recorded the MAC address of my ATV3. I use MAC filtering for my network. This way I don't have any network passwords, but just add a list of approved devices by putting in their MAC address. This allowed me to do everything on ATV3 as it was connected.
Here's where I found my solution... I disconnected the network cable from ATV, then I noticed that I was no longer connected to the internet. Going back into the network settings I noticed a very subtle detail. The last letter of the MAC address now showed a C, where it was a B before. I added this second MAC address to my router's list, and then had wireless internet working fine with ATV3. I then tried going into iTunes on my computer, clicked on AirPlay, then tried to click on the Apple TV. It still had the padlock symbol beside it, but now I was able to click on it, and type in my password (used my main iTunes account password). Everything worked.
The solution was not that I didn't have a connection, it was just that my connection was only wired, and I needed to also have it connected to the wireless (so add the second MAC address). So to those people out there who want to have ATV wired to the internet, note that you do need to be wirelessly connected to the network for some of these features (even if you're directly plugged into the router for that network).

  • Stuck on 'Syncing "Apple TV"'

This is something I haven't seen on the forums before. My AppleTV is set to sync with my MacBook Pro. Since the update to 2.3, my remote has been very sluggish, as others have reported. Most recently, however, it appears unable to sync. The ATV and MBP are connected and can see each other, but things just stop with the message 'Syncing "Apple TV"' in iTunes for hours. That used to happen for a minute before it began reporting what items it was syncing, but now it never get beyonds it.
I can still watch/listen to ATV content, and iTunes works, but nothing will sync in either direction.
I've tried changing to custom sync rather than automatic, etc. but no go. The ATV can see other shared libraries with no problem.
Anyone have any ideas? I've rebooted the MBP, ATV (and also reset settings on same), and the Airport Extreme that connects the three (it is running 802.11n with b/g compatibility).

    OK, I'm with you now.
        1.    First you should try logging out of your iTunes Store account (settings > iTunes Store > accounts) and then back in again.
        2.    If that doesn't help, try resetting the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings). You should also try restarting your router.
        3.    If both of the above don't help, you should try a restore (Settings > General > Reset > Restore).

  • How can I use 2 Apple IDs in Itunes? I have 2 IOS Devices. They each have there own AppleID. What is the proper way to sync both of them to Itunes?

How can I use 2 Apple IDs in Itunes? I have 2 IOS Devices. They each have there own AppleID. What is the proper way to sync both of them to Itunes? I wanted my teenager's AppleID to be different from mine so that she couldn't charge stuff to my AppleID, therefore I created me another one. Now when I go to Sync either device, it tells me that this IOS device can only be synced with one AppleID. Then I get a message to erase it, not going to do that, lol. If I logout as one ID and login as the other, will it still retain all synced information on the PC from the first IOS device? If I can just log in out of the AppleID, then I have no problem doing that as long as the synced apps, music, etc stays there for both. I am not trying to copy from one to the other, just want to make sure I have a backup for the UhOh times. If logging in and out on the same PC of multiple AppleIDs is acceptible then I need to be able to authorize the PC for both devices. Thanks for the help. I am new to the iOS world.

    "Method Three
Create a separate iTunes library for each device. Note:It is important that you make a new iTunes Library file. Do not justmake a copy of your existing iTunes Library file. If iTunes is open, quit it.
This one may work. I searched and searched on the website for something like this, I guess I just didn't search correctly, lol. I will give this a try later. My daughter is not be back for a few weekends, therefore I will have to try the Method 3 when she comes back for the weekend again. "
I forgot to mention that she has a PC at her house that she also syncs to. Would this cause a problem. I am already getting that pop up saying that the iPod is synced to another library (even though she is signed in with her Apple ID to iTunes) and gives the pop up to Cancel, Erase & Sync, or Transfer Purchases. My question arose because she clicked on "Erase & Sync" by mistake when she plugged the iPod to her PC the first time. When the iPod was purchased and setup, it was synced to my PC first. When she went home, she hooked it up to her PC and then she erased it by accident. I was able to restore all the missing stuff yesterday using my PC. However, even after doing that it still told me the next time I hooked it up last night that the iPod was currently synced with a different library. Hopefully, you can help me understand all this. She wants to sync her iPod and also backup her iPod at both places. Both PCs have been authorised. Thanks

  • How to: Force-sync a first generation Apple TV with iTunes 12

For anyone else out there who's still using a first generation Apple TV and iTunes 12 and realized there's no longer an option to "force" the device to sync, I have a work around.
    Background
With my first generation Apple TV, I "manually" manage the content stored on the device. As well, I don't add content movie-by-movie (song-by-song, etc.). Instead, I have three playlists (Movies, TV Shows, and Music) that I then sync to the Apple TV. The problem is, even pre-iTunes 12, modifying the content of a playlist didn't trigger iTunes to offer to "sync" the device (I don't think it was smart enough to deal with the EOL first generation Apple TV in terms of playlist content changes). But, at least with pre-iTunes 12, you were able to right-click on the device in the sidebar and this would bring up a contextual message with "Sync" as one of the options. So, even though the "Sync" option was greyed-out in the main iTunes window, you could still initiate the sync via the contextual menu (thus "force syncing" the device with iTunes). But, with iTunes 12, this contextual menu has been removed (right clicking does nothing) and thus the ability to "force sync" is gone.
    Solution
After trying many different options to get the first generation Apple TV to sync with iTunes (after updating the content of a synced playlist), this is the only solution I've come up with that works:
    1. Create a playlist called "ATV Force Sync".
    2. Put a single movie in the playlist (I used a short, 10 second video, but I'm sure you could also use a song or any other media—just use something that is short and you don't care if it's on or off the device).
    3. To "force sync" the Apple TV, iTunes > Apple TV > Settings > Movies > Sync Playlist, check the checkbox beside the "ATV Force Sync" playlist. This will then enable the Sync"button and you can now force the Apple TV to sync with iTunes (it'll sync the "ATV Force Sync" playlist, but also sync any changes to any other playlist the Apple TV is set to sync with). Then, the next time you want to force sync (i.e., if you've updated the content in a playlist you want to sync), just uncheck the checkbox beside the "ATV Force Sync" playlist, and the Sync button will be enabled again (and so on, enabling/disabling the "ATV Force Sync" every time you want to force-sync the device).
Anyway, it's not an ideal solution, but at least it works. I've filed a bug report with Apple, but let's be honest, I don't think supporting the first generation Apple TV is on their "to do" list anymore. <G>
Hope this helps someone else out there!
    Kristin.

Hi minjak—I'll see if I can help?
Has the Apple TV ever been connected to iTunes at all (on that, or another computer)? From the sounds of it, the ATV has already been "paired" with an iTunes library, thus it's not (and won't) show up in your current version of iTunes.
So, here's what I'd suggest. On your Apple TV, do the following…
Go to Settings > Computers > Select iTunes Library (or something like that—I don't remember 100% what the option is called as I don't have the screen in front of me right now) and select "Disconnect".
This should remove and "synced" or "paired" computer (iTunes) from your ATV.
Then, re-sync it back up to your version of iTunes. You have to do something like this…
On your ATV, go to Settings > Computers > Connect to iTunes and a passcode should display on your screen. Then, go to iTunes, and the ATV should appear (give it about 15-20 seconds). If it does, select it and enter the passcode showing on the ATV. This should re-sync the ATV to your copy of iTunes.
Make sure both the computer and Apple TV are on the same internal network. And if possible, connect the Apple TV to the network via ethernet (rather than WiFi). Again, make sure the Apple TV is "online" and connected to the same network at the computer running iTunes.
If all works, you should see the Apple TV appear in iTunes, something like this (i.e., there's now a small Apple TV icon at the right end of the row of icons along the top)…
Anyway, have a go at the instructions above and let me know what happens, and we can go from there!
    Thanks,
    Kristin.

I recently changed my email address and want to change my Apple ID account to match. I have created a new Apple ID to match the new account but now I can't sign into iCloud on our phones or computer with the old Apple ID. I can't make any changes on iCloud on our phones because it directs me to the old account, which I can't sign into. I also can't sign me in on my computer to make any changes. Help!!! • Apple TV not syncing purchases back to iTunes

My Apple TV is not syncing purchases back to iTunes. All music and TV shows I've purchased through Apple TV since the upgrade to ATV 2.0 is still not showing up in iTunes.
In iTunes, when I click on Apple TV in the left pane I see only the "Summary" and "Photos" tabs. On the main Summary window there is no button to "Sync" Apple TV. Neither are there any options for setting this up in iTunes Preferences, or in any of the on-screen settings in Apple TV itself. I can stream content just fine, I just don't see how to enable syncing back and forth. Am I missing something?
    Many thanks for your input!
    Tom

Any idea how to get ATV to sync with iTunes? Is there some way to enable syncing to move purchased ATV content over to iTunes? I was under the assumption that this should happen automatically with 2.0. I also recall with ATV 1.0 that I DID at one point disable syncing in favor of streaming, and perhaps this setting somehow transferred over to ATV 2.0 ?
Funny, others on this forum are trying to disable the automatic transfer of ATV content to iTunes, while I'm trying to get it to work!
