Sync-around

Hello,
I had to reconfig my computer yesterday and I am now unable to sync my iPod to my newly downloaded iTunes even though it is on the same computer. I was unable to backup my info. before the reconfig. I don't understand how you can sync your iPod to multiple computers yet I am unable to resync to my newly reconfigured computer. Help! I've got over 2000 songs on my iPod and nowhere to sync! :o(
Right now I only had my iPod syncing to my home computer. Would it be possible to download iTunes at work, sync my iPod and then go back to my home computer, clear the iPod as it suggests, go back to work and sync everything back to my iPod and then sync again at home? blah blah blah. I just want my music back on my home computer???
Any info would be great appreciated.
PS. I thought the iPod was its own little hard drive. Why is it so difficult to start a fresh sync to the same users library?

i'm not sure from your post whether or not you actually saved the music that was on your computer when you "reconfigured" it. I presume by reconfigure you mean you reinstalled Windows. If your iTunes is now blank try this:
1). Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

so recently my ipod touch was stolen and apple wasnt able to do ANYTHING(which i find hard to believe) so i broke out the old ipod classic. i first restored the ipod and then started syncing. on the 173 song it stopped syncing and said that an unknown error occured (error 50) and it stopped syncing. i then restored my ipod and tried again. this time it did the same thing and stopped around 175 and it i restored it many more times to have the same outcome. any advice on what to do? i tried the solution 1 on apple's website and that didnt do anything.

  • Lost around 800 pics I synced from a different Laptop(iTune)

    Hi,
So, I synced around 800 pics(from laptop to iPhone 4) from a laptop I used earlier and I synced some music(from laptop to iPhone 4) as well. I bought a new laptop two days ago and installed iTunes. I tried to sync some stuff from my new lappy to my phone, I could not add anything on my phone but lost almost all the photos I synced from my old lappy.
Is there any way I can get all those pics.\
Those pics were very important for me and I do not have any copy of that.
    Thanks

Sorry, but they are gone.  Unless you had them backed up elsewhere, they are permanently lost.

  • LR Mobile sync caused iPad mini to crash continuously and reboot with blue screen?

    Hi,
I've been using LR Mobile on my iPad Mini (Retina) for quite sometime now without any issues. It worked flawlessly, until yesterday.
I'm not sure whether this problem was caused by the LR Mobile app or not but this was my experience.
Begin syncing a LR Catalog file (760 photos, needed 1.6 GB of space on my iPad). Sync and download was in progress. (I enabled the offline edit option).
After like 10 minutes, I checked my iPad to see the sync status and it crashed and restarted by itself.
After it booted, I opened LR Mobile and bang.... it crashed again.
This happened several times and I also begin to get the blue screen of death on the iPad.
Finally, it booted properly and I opened LRM and begin to re-sync. Things went smoothly.
I had to cancel the sync (around 650 photos were synced) as I had to rush to work and the sync process was taking too long (it took me like 3 hours to sync the 650 photos as the iPad would go into sleep and the sync process would stop. Plus the iPad was crashing and rebooting in between the sync process and caused a loss of time).
Anyhow, on the way to work I opened LRM and begin working on the images. Everything seemed fine.
Just an hour ago, when I unlocked my iPad and wanted to work on the images, it crashed again. This time it went in a reboot cycle and the screen went bonkers - got the blue screen, and weird visual distortions of the apple logo, and other unusual visual effects begin to occur. I thought the iPad was gone for, as it went off and wouldn't even restart. (I even tried doing a hard reset - Home + Sleep/Wake buttons).
Finally when it booted and restarted on its own, I immediately deleted the LR Mobile app and restarted the iPad.
It's been like 2 hours now and the iPad's working fine.
Did anyone experience similar issues like this? Or is it just me
I feel very annoyed because after waiting for hours for my catalog to sync, I had to delete the app and lost all my synced photos
Can the Adobe LRM team please clarify if this could have been cause by the LRM app?
I've been using LRM for a long time and never encountered such a problem. Could it be because the app required around 1.6 GB of space on the iPad and they sync/download process was taking like forever to get done. ( I had plenty of free space on my iPad. Had like 5.6 GB free on it).
Any help and advise would be truly appreciated

    Hi,
Lightroom mobile should not be causing any iPad crashers, the issue with the crashing LrM is a known issue.
What would help would be if you can collect logs from your tablet and send them privately to me.
Only then we can know for sure if it's really caused by LrMobile.
We would need all your logs that you can find under these folders that are close to the date and time when your device restarted.
    OSX: /Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/DeviceName/
    Windows: C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\Apple computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\DeviceName\
Btw you need to sync with iTunes to see them.
    thanks,
    Ignacio

  • HT1386 All of a sudden only about a 4th of my content will sync onto my ipod. I've tried restoring the settings, updating itunes, and installing on another computer. Now i only have about a 4th of the music I had on there before and there's still plenty o

All of a sudden my ipod erased everything when syncing. (this seems to occur most frequently after adding music to my library). At first I thought it was the ipod and exchanged for a new one ( i"d had the first one for a year and a half until this happened. After recieving the new ipod i still have the same problem. I've restored the factory settings and everything is up to date and yet I've only been able to sync around 9000 songs tops compared to the 40,000 I had before. I even tried syncing from a different computer and still only some of the music syncs. Besides a few newbies here and there all the content is the same as what I had before. Any suggestions?

I´ve tried every possible solution listed, those that have worked for others...nothing has worked. My library has about 2777 songs of which at first only 1370 loaded. After syncing w/o music, which deleted all music from my iPhone, I then selected Sync Music again and synced...well this time only 391 songs were added!!! It skipped the other 1400 I already had in! I´ve come to notice that these 391 songs are the ones purchased directly on the iTunes Store, but previously I had ALL my CD´s ripped and loaded to my iPhone.
I don´t know if this has something to do with the new iTunes version, but please, please, someone give me some light! I don´t want to go and convert all 2400 songs from MP3 to AAC..!! It´s not practical!
Thanks in advance for your comments.

  • IPad syncing issues, please help.

I know this is a long read, I appreciate you taking the time to follow the details to help me figure out what is happening with my iPad.
As a preface, I update the firmware to all my Apple software (including iTunes) and my MacBook OS (Snow Leopard) and my iDevices the day the updates come out, so all these issues occured with the current firmware.
A few weeks ago, I was syncing my iPad earlier to my MacBook via iTunes. The backing up step was going on for about 10 minutes and it only got 1/20 across the status / progress bar. I "X'd" out of that and just synced the rest of it without the backing up step.
Then I disconnected the device and reattached it. I went back and am re-syncing. The backing up step has been going for almost an hour and its only 1/5th across the progress bar. It is moving, but noticeably. If I put my mouse pointer icon on the end of the progress made so far, then come back and look at it 10 minutes later, it has made progress. So, it is backing up, but so incredibly slowly.
Anyone experience this before? Any idea what could be the cause or fix to this?
I left it for several more hours. In fact, I started the syncing around 6 pm, and went to bed around 11. It was only 3/4 to 4/5 done backing up by that point.
I left it overnight, and in the very early morning (6 or 7 am), it had the familiar and comforting "Sync Complete" message.
Still have no idea why it took so fookin long, or it it will happen again next time.
I don't think the problem is the issue pertaining to Zinio disrupting backups, as discussed here: http://imgs.zinio.com/faq/ipad.htm#backup because I already followed those steps.
Now, two nights ago, I updated the firmware. It only took a few minutes. I didn't notice until last night, some of my old movies that I handbrake'd into iTunes were no longer on my iPad. I had to go back into the Time Machine to retrieve them.
I re-synced the iPad. It took about 10 minutes doing step 1, backing up. However, it froze at about 95% complete. I thought it was just going slow again (last time was hours!), so I went to bed. I woke up this morning and it was still frozen. I ejected the iPad from the sidebar window and stopped the sync by clicking the little black "X" in the message window.
I shut down iTunes and restarted my MacBook. I re-synced and it skipped the Step 1, Backing Up and went in to Step 2. It completed the sync moving over the movies, but no photos or music.
I re-synced immediately afterward (after disconnecting and reconnecting the device) and got a message about iTunes not being able to back up my iPad due to another syncing in process. It still synced and this time it moved about 256 photos. Not sure why- maybe I had "Sync recent 1000 events" or something checkmarked in the iTunes Sync window.
I re-synced again immediately afterward (also disconnecting and reconnecting first) and got the same message about iTunes not being able to back up my iPad. It still synced the rest of the sync process, but this time it moved about a dozen songs around. I don't know why I each time I sync it does different things and I get the error messages.
My iPad seems to be giving me issues with syncing, anyone have any idea what is going on or how to resolve it?
    Thanks!

    1. Some people have reported slow syncing with anything but the iPad's own USB cable (e.g. using a US cable from an iPhone/iPod). Try different cables
    2. More work - disable iTunes syncing completely, then re-enable a bit at a time, e.g. one movie at a time, one playlist at a time, one photo album at a time. There are periodic reports of syncing issues caused by a bit of media that's been corrupted, and this (tedious) approach allows you to identify where the problem might be.
    3. If that fails, do a clean restore back to factory settings, then progressively re-enable syncing as above.
    Hope this helps

  • Wont sync because of not enough space but it also says i have free space at the bottom

I synced my entire itunes at first. Then  I got some more music off an old ipod and wanted to put it on knowing I have to select specific artist or albums instead of the whole collection. I have around 3000 songs on the ipod now. Its not letting me sync around 2000 songs it says because not enough space.  The gauge at the bottom says i have 6 gbs left and the ipod it self says it has 3 gbs.  This is all besides the point because Im trying to put less stuff on there.  Why?

  • Itunes not syncing ipod in Windows 7

Recently upgraded to windows 7 and all was well until i opened up my itunes. I had added a few albums to my collection before i upgraded, and thought id sync them to my ipod. Itunes syncs around 100 songs and then freezes and the only way to unfreeze it, is to disconnect my ipod without ejecting it. While itunes is frooze, my ipod makes a lot of funny noises :\ This has only happend since i upgraded (starting to wish i never now). I've tried re-formatting my ipod, restoring it, re-installed the latest itunes and all to no avail. I've done my research and have even tried deleteing the song that itunes freezes on syncing, but it seems never ending.
Any help would be much appreciated, thx Aston

  • Syncing more files than what is in iTunes library?

    Hi All,
I did some cleanup work on my MP3 collection last night through updating metadata tags, etc. I then did a reimport of my collection into iTunes. I have roughly 3300 MP3 files. When my ATV started to sync last night, I noticed it trying to sync around 7000 files? When the ATV syncs music, does it sync any other "background" files I should be aware of? I am concerned now that it will fill up my drive but I can't figure out why it isn't just syncing the 3300 files? I didn't make any changes to movies, photos, etc. If music was also setup in playlists, it doesn't try to duplicate those files, right? I cleared them just to be safe and still see a large number. Any help would be appreciated.

If you had already set itunes to sync your photos in a previous session, it will continue to sync them every time until you deselect that option.
I can't help but keep thinking back to the fact that you reorganized/reimported your tunes collection and that twice your content is not far from 7000 items, have a look at how much space your tunes collection takes up in itunes and compare it to how much space is occupied by audio files on your tv (you can see this at the bottom of your sync options), you can also see how much space is occupied by photos and movies etc there.
If there is a large discrepancy in the space occupied by tunes (say twice as much as it should be), could you post back with a step by step of what you did to reorganize your tunes.

  • Lost 20mb in sync speed after repair.

Hello, in mid December my infinity connection stopped working, took 10 days but eventually got an engineer out.  He replaced the landline faceplate and the openreach box, which fixed things.  He also said he reset the ip profile on my line as I'd been without a connection for so long.  He said it'd take a while for it to get back to normal speed.
Well it's been nearly two months and the speed has remained where it was since the connection was fixed.  I used to sync around 75mb, now it's around 54mb.  Not a big deal most of the time, but losing over 1mb in download speed is noticeable when streaming or downloading games from steam.  It's also worth noting that my upload speed appears to have gone up.
I'm presuming this is an ip profile issue, although it could be the new hardware.  Is there anything I can do to try and get my ip profile increased back to where it was so I can get 75mb sync again?

I am of course using ethernet.  I've had fibre for over 2 years.  For about 3 months I was on 25-30mb, then got a free upgrade, where upon it was steady at 74mb for a good 21months, would get the occassional disconnect but it was pretty solid for the most part.  And as I said when it broke in december I was without internet for 10 days, engineer replaced faceplate and openreach box and said he reset my ip profile.  Used to be 74mb (about 7.5mb/s max download speed) now it's 54mb (about 6.4mb/s max download speed)

  • Continual Drop in Sync Speed

I have been experiencing a continual drop on sync speed and thus actual line speed over the last few weeks. I had a HH4 replaced aftger teh last one died and since then the line speed seems to be getting slower and slower.
I am on DSLMax (good old ADSL) and normally sync around 8mb as am very close to the actual exchange - am now down to 6.4mb and am sure it will drop again.
Normal instructions from the phone support has been applied - reset hub etc.... and has not made a difference...
Can I ask one of the mod's to try and help out - see why the line is syncing lower than it normally does/has been for the last 3 years....
    thanks
    Pete

in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router you may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or if HH4/5 then go to troubleshooting then logs and you are looking for 2 line together when hub last connected to internet and they will show your connection speed and noise margin or if netgear enter 192.168.0.1). Then run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results ( do not reset the router).
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • ITunes will not sync Photos with iPad

iTunes 11.1.5 will not sync photos from iPhoto 9.5.1 to an iPad running IOS 7.1.1....
The sync will not complete it just spins forever on 'importing photos'....  I have always selected Sync photos from 'iPhoto' and 'Selected albus,s, Events and Faces....   I typically only sync around 20 photos between the two but now iTunes will not add photos to the iPad nor delete photos from the iPad....
Since these photos were added with iTunes I can not manually delete them from the iPad....
If I deselect 'Sync Photo from iPhoto' the sync will complete but the photos are not deleted from the iPad....
I suspect that iTunes may be looking for a previous release of iPhoto (since the photo library was 'upgraded' to iPhoto 9.5.1 so it just seems logical that iTunes may not be recognizing the new and improved iPhoto library??
    Any suggestions will be appreciated.
    John Jones

    The photos won't get lost.
You don't sync photos to the computer using iTunes.
Import them to the computer like you would with any camera.
Then delete them from the iPad and re-add them using iTunes. This gets them out of the camera roll.

  • ATV keeps re-syncing

Alright, so I bought an Apple TV a few months ago, and I love it, but I'm having a problem with the syncing.
I set the Apple TV to a custom sync, syncing all movies, TV shows, and podcasts.
The ATV will star to sync, and it will start syncing fine, albeit incredibly slow. It will usually take more than a day to sync around 50GB or so (I don't know if that's normal or not).
But then, whenever iTunes is opened, or the internet crashes and restarts, the ATV will always start resyncing. This can get incredibly frustrating, as it takes up a lot of internet, and then I can't view some items on the ATV as well.
If anyone could help out, that would be brilliant. I'm using iTunes 8.2, Mac OSX 14.11, and ATV 2.4

I don't find syncing each time iTunes is opened to be a problem as I'm always changing play lists, downloading new podcasts, videos and songs. I want it re-sync each time iTunes is opened or I turn my MacBook on from sleep. If there are no new files to transfer, it just takes a few seconds to sync which is all done in the background anyway.
If you don't have your AppleTV on an 802.11n WiFi network, I would suggest that you move it to that. I did and it's much faster at transferring files over 802.11g.
I actually run a dual-band WiFi network, where I have a Time Capsule and AppleTV running on a 802.11n (5 GHz), and then I have an ethernet cable running to from my Time Capsule to an Airport Express that runs a 802.11g (2.4 GHz) for my iPhones to connect to. It works great!
