I have recently lost all my files from my macbook pro, because i needed to change the harddisk. I really need to sync back all my songs from my ipod to my itunes library. Is that possible? i am pretty sure it is. please teach me how to do it Thank you!

I had previously run my iPod mini on my Dell, and I just got a new PowerBook. I want to transfer all of the music from my iPod to my PowerBook, but I cannot seem to make it happen. Help!!

Priscilla, welcome to discussions! I had to do the same thing abot 6 weeks ago when moving from a PC to an iMac. I use a 3rd party app, iPodRip, that worked like a charm. Recovered all music, playlists, etc. of the iPod to the Mac, didn't lose a thing. You can find it at versiontracker.com. It's freeware for something like the first 8 or 9 times you use it. Once I had all the music on the Mac, I restored the iPod to read on a Mac & I was up & running. Post back if you have questions.

Extremely Simple Method: (just to recover the song files – may not work on a Mac)
1 - Open iTunes
2 - Edit=>Preferences=>’Advanced/General’ tab
2a --- Select ‘Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library’: checked
2b --- Select ‘Keep iTunes Music folder organized’: checked

3 - Attach your iPod to the PC and hold down the ‘Shift+Ctrl’ keys until the iPod is fully recognized (this will defeat the auto-sync process)

Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. Check using Windows Explorer in 'My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\...' for folders containing your music (or wherever you keep your music folders). If it is there, we can get iTunes to recognize it. Try one or both of these:
--- In iTunes choose: Edit==>Preferences==>Advanced tab. Select 'Change' and browse to the music folder in your PC drive (if it isnt already). Click OK to save that setting.
--- In iTunes choose: File==>Add Folder to Library & browse to the music folder in your PC drive. Click OK.
Also check in your Recycle Bin to see if you accidentally deleted it. If so, Restore it back to its original spot.
Then try running a search using Windows Explorer (or similar) for files with the extensions of: m4a, m4p, MP3,

with the partial names of the songs you are missing.
Do all the above before you decide that they have been completely erased from your hard drive.

I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
