Sync - Back Up... taking 5+ hours

the Back Up process of Sync is taking 5+ hours to do. it usually gets 1/2 way and than the rest takes hours on hours. nothing really changed, maybe a couple of new pictures taken. this happens all the time.

Have you installed firmware version 2.2?
If so, how many 3rd party apps do you have installed that create and store data which you use on a regular basis? All 3rd party app settings and all data created and stored by a 3rd party app is included with your iPhone's backup.
Do you have the FaceBook app installed? If so, it has been reported here by a number of people using this app that deleting the app from the iPhone resolves the long backup problem. If you have this app installed, try deleting the app from your iPhone followed by syncing to see if your backup time improves.

  • First time sync/backing up taking LONG time..

I have a 3.1 iPhone, which I have never synced with my computer. It sounds silly, i know, but it's because i only use it for work email and games for my kids. We don't use it for music, etc. so i really have never had a reason to sync it.
Well, this past xmas, we got an ipad so i'm trying to sync my iphone so i can get to itunes the paid games so that I can also get them on my ipad. I'm understanding now that i don't really need to do that to get paid apps to my ipad device, because it should recognize my itunes id and know that already.
So...i'm still trying to sync my iphone for the very first time anyway so i can get the latest version of 4.2 and the backup is taking a VERY long time. Last night it was 15 hours and it was only 3/4 a way through. So, now I am following this helpful discussion link:
    http://blog.jhong.org/2008/08/does-your-iphone-take-forever-to.html
but the backup seems to still be taking a long time. Are pictures potentially a problem? When the picture scanner came on asking me where to save pictures, I canceled out, so i'm assuming that pictures aren't even being backed up. Should i expect that first time i'm backing up/syncing is going to take a really really long time like i'm experiencing.
And for anyone who has tried the advice in the above link, have they experienced continued delay in backing up, which the link was supposed to help alleviate?
Sorry, if this is confusing but any help would be appreciated.

The camera roll does back up to the backup file though it is HIGHLY recommended that you take them off on regular basic. the camera roll is meant as a temp location like any digital camera. If you want photos on your phone you sync them back to their own albums thus iTunes doesn't have to back them up because it knows they are on your computer already that you should be backing up yourself.
The more pics, the longer the backup as the iOS and the camera roll are sort of separate.
You can click the X next to where it says backing up and it will stop and move on to next step of taking stuff off and syncing.

  • Why is it taking 4 hours to sync my phone with Icloud, why is it taking 4 hours to sync my phone with Icloud

Why is it taking 4 hours to sync my iphone with Icloud, when i only have 99 songs and about 15 apps?

iCloud does not sync media and only backs up apps. Why do you believe it is taking 4 hours to sync?  Does the device actually say it is syncing?
Is the device plugged into external power during this time?  If it is not, Wi-Fi is turning off and the device is reverting to the slower cellular network.

  • Icloud taking 19 hours to back up

Why is my iphone 5 taking 19 hours to back up to icloud?

Cause the backup is large and your Internet is slow. Try another fast network, or just leave it charging for couple of nights and it will backup eventually.

  • Should a 5GB back-up take 3 hours to sync to an ipad with Apple Configurator

I'm setting up a cart of 22 iPads for my school.  I created an master and backup using Apple Configurator.  The size of the backup is between 5 and 6GB.  Had no issues creating the backup.  Supervised all the other iPads then began resorting them from the 5GB backup.  I'm on my 3rd hour of syncing.  Should it take this long?

It's quite possible.  I haven't run into your exact situation, but have regularly been syncing about 1 GB to anywhere from 12-60 iPads at a time.  And the major time difference seems to be related more to the amount of data that is being synced instead of how many devices.
With 1 GB it takes me about an hour.  So taking 3+ hours to sync 5 GB to 22 devices sounds reasonable to me.

  • Smart view- Sync Back to Server.

    Hi All,
I am working with Smartview offline planning, i would like to take one dataform as offline & perform some calculations (operations) on it and sync back to server .
What i have done is :
I am taking one form as offline with a local connection name and connecting to it performing operations on it. I was trying to sync that data to server but it was not.
    Any help on this .
    Thank You.

I am not sure you can do what you intend on doing. As per the Smart View documentation, Chapter 5 - Working with Data Forms (page 43) it states:
'You can view data form data and instructions, create formulas and format the color and text in a grid. You cannot create formulas in Hyperion Enterprise data forms. Financial Management supports data forms, but the Financial Management Add Member functionality is not supported in data forms opened in Smart View.'
Although you cannot change the data forms you can change the data via calculations and send back to the server...
'...Although you cannot modify the data form structure, you can modify data values in the data form. You can create numeric analyses and calculations for the data, which are preserved in the worksheet when the data form is brought back to the server.'

  • IPhone won't update to 4.0, sync/back-up

I have an iPhone 3G, version 3.1.3 (I connect to iTunes via an HP PC). I have tried several times to update to 4.0 but it doesn't work. It seems to get hung up on the back-up process. I click Update, it goes through the process showing the progress bar that shows the repeatedly moving little green boxes. It then has a box that says Backing up iPhone with an empty progress bar. After awhile the progress bar then shows one green box and this is where it seems to get stuck (I've also tried just syncing/backing up by right clicking on the device and selecting from the menu and it does the same thing). I've left it for more than an hour and it never moves any farther and it doesn't update to 4.0. Does anyone have any idea of what the problem/solution might be? I've never had any issues in previous updates/syncs.

Had the EXACT same problem and found a workaround.
It turns out that, while syncing doesn't work when updating to iOS4, it still works if you do it manually in iTunes. So sync your phone normally with iTunes in case something goes wrong.
Then download this little program: http://www.microseconds.com/backupswitch.html
It will allow you to chose whether you want iTunes to perform automatic syncs or not. Make sure you've quit iTunes, disable automatic updates through backupswitch and re-start iTunes. Now chose to update your iPhone to iOS4 and you will be told that there was an error and iTunes will ask you if you want to update without syncing. Click "accept" or "yes" or whatever it was and voilà - watch iTunes update your iPhone!
If you like, you can then re-enable automatic syncs through the backupswitch program.
Hope this is helpful and good luck!

  • Skype download for Mac taking 20 hours

Why is it taking 20 hours for the new version of Skype to download onto my Mac laptop? I have a job interview coming up and I needed to download this because my login would not work on old version. Help!!

Not to sound fraternising, but the matter of fact is that nothing has been changed in tcp/ip, that is used by Skype.  What has been changed is that Microsoft now manage the code, and with that comes the Microsoft way of doing things. If this includes complete lack of version control and software management, I suggest you do not change one thing.
What you do not explain and fail to mention is that features that used to work, does not work in your new versions, and the simplest way to get it to work is to remove everything that has been changed.
What has been changed is how the tcp/ip packets are sent on the Internet. The software that MS acquired used straight forward, standard tcp/ip with non-lingering sockets, which is the ITU-T variant of tcp/ip that is also the US FCC RFC. If Microsoft wants to implement Skype on Netbios, go ahead, but do not expect others to follow, and allow the rest of the world, including those that used to run Skype on Windows, to leave and find the attempt a complete waste of time, and the software utter worthless.
It is very well defined what Skype is expected to deliver of functionality, just now, it is to perform just as good as two years ago. If you cannot acheive this by Windows used on servers on the network, that is a change that removed functionality, and did not add anything. It is simple to get it back - drop the Windows relay servers. Microsoft cannot rewrite international standards - and do not tell us to endorse any attempt of that nature. It would be nice if the world was a cube, but all your effort in telling us that it is convenient does not change facts: it will be round as a bowling ball, and tcp/ip has to be fully standard, not one that keeps open long after the connection has been taken down to allow MS to implement IPX/SPX functionality in Skype. We are not interested, and nobody is, I doubt Mr. Nadella would endorse this had he known.

  • Play position in audible audio books not syncing back from iPhone to iTunes

Hi everybody. I hope I don't open a redundant thread, but i couldn't find one that has this topic.
Anyway, I am syncing some audio books from audible to my iPhone. When i start playing them on the phone, the play position is in sync to the position in iTunes. Now let's say i listen one hour on the phone and then sync again.
Contrary to what i expected, the further advanced play position from the phone is NOT synced back to iTunes but the old position from iTunes is synced again to the phone. So the next time I access the audio book on the phone I start where i started in the first place.
Is this a bug or have I missed some setting wheresoever?
    Thanks for any suggestions!

I have seen others complain about it. For me I never listen via PC (only phone) so I haven't had an issue yet. Though I do when I stop listening look at the time and chapter/file I am at and go over to Notes and jot it down. Due to reboots or other issues, it has lost where I was but with my notes, I can quickly get back.

  • Back-up taking very long

For some time now when I go to sync my iPod Touch the back-up it performs before any sync takes a couple of hours. I do not believe that this should happen as others have reported back-ups lasting only a few minutes. I have recently upgraded to OS 3.0 but I have had this problem even before that when I had 2.1.1. If anyone has any suggestions they would be very welcome.
    Some information to help you:
I am currently running a Windows Vista PC with 2GB RAM and a processor speed of 1.60GHz. I have tried a system defrag, which was suggested to me but this hasn't helped. I have a 2nd Gen iPod Touch 8GB and I currently have 3.65GB left of memory. I would be very greatful someone could help as I would much prefer it was backed up in case I need to restore it at any point.

I have had trouble with long backups as well. A post on a forum suggested that these may be due to corrupted data belonging to various apps.
Try removing the apps from your Touch through the sync window in iTunes. If the backup goes on and on, just click on the circled X on the right side of the window showing the progress of the backup. I believe the sync will continue without the backup being complete. Removing the apps will warn you that the data related to them will be removed as well. That is good.
After the apps are removed, disconnect the Touch and shut it down and restart it. Then sync it again, choosing which apps you want to reinstall. The first backup after that may take just a little time, but they should be faster after that.
    Hope it helps.
    Geof

  • IPhone 3G - unable to update iPhone software due to syncing + back-up process always crashed half way.

    - I'm having problem to update my current iphone software (3.1.3 version) to the latest version due to my itunes + iphone unable to complete the syncing + back-up process.
    - It always crashed + syncing half way and sadly it always happened after waiting for couples of hours (sometimes more than 6 hours).
    - I have tried it soooooo many times but again it still disappoint me.

What "latest version" are you attempting to upgrade to? The iPhone 3G can use up to iOS 4.2.1; any later version will not install. And you might want to stick with 3.1.3 as many people report unsatisfactory performance of iOS 4 on the iPhone 3G.
If you're sure you want to upgrade, and you're sure you are attempting to install iOS 4.2.1 and not some later version, then try a factory restore operation on your phone first, then try again to update the iOS:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
If that doesn't work, you might want to call your local Apple Store to make an appointment at the Genius Bar. They'll probably be happy to help you perform the software update right in the store. If you use a laptop to sync your iPhone, bring that (and the USB charge/sync cable) with you.

  • Purchased movies on Apple TV no longer sync back to iTunes on computer

Many TIA, the movies I have purchased on the Apple TV via iTunes have stopped syncing back to my computer. They initially did, but stopped about 4-6 weeks ago. It syncs movies just fine from Computer's iTunes to the Apple TV, but not the other way. I am afraid I'm going to lose the content if something goes hinky.
It will show very briefly in the activity window that it is syncing the 14 movies, then it just stops and moves on to other tasks. I have changed nothing that would account for this stoppage other than software updates. It uses a wireless connection via a new airport extreme.
    Any thoughts?

I have the same issue where I can make purchase via itunes and it syncs with ATV. However the reverse from ATV to itunes does not. I saw an earlier post in the year to deauthorize the account on itunes that fixed the problem- tried that on itunes and then selected the transfer from ATV to itunes on the file menu and was unsuccessful. All software is current using itunes 8.02.2
It was working previously so I am not sure if an ATV software upgrade caused this or not.

  • HT1766 4 voice memos in iTunes backup from iPhone had ! marks and would not play so I deleted them and although they are still on the iPhone, they will not sync back to iTunes from iPhone.

4 voice memos in iTunes backup from iPhone had ! marks and would not play so I deleted them and although they are still on the iPhone, they will not sync back to iTunes from iPhone.

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.
