Sync Books settings - "All books" deselected

Currently using iTunes 12.0.1.26.  For some reason, when I go to the Books area of my device (iPhone 5S), the radio button for "All books" keeps getting deselected.  It somehow reverts to "Selected books."  That results in all or most of the books being removed from my device upon synchronization.  So I then have to manually go back & select "All books," after which the sync takes forever to put all the books back on my device.
Thankfully the book files are not deleted from my PC, but nonetheless this is really annoying.  This never happened until I upgraded to iTunes 12.  Has anyone else seen something similar?

My problem is slightly different but I'll bet it is related.
I do not have all books selected. I pick different ones for my iPhone and iPad based on the reading size and purpose.
Some of the same books are shown de-selected when I sync, even though I never intended that. I have to go through iPhone and iPad book selections each time and add those few books back to selected status. Most books are handled fine but the same ones tend to fall off.
This is most annoying if I forget to repeatedly go through the drill of adding the computer de-selected books each time I sync, which I always do by cable, by the way.
If anyone can explain this incorrect behavior, I would appreciate hearing about it.
Thanks!

Instructions on syncing your iPad can be found here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12311
and in the accompanying documents linked from that page. Syncing your iPad with iTunes copies items, it doesn't move them. The only way apps would be actually removed from your iPad during syncing is if you had iTunes set to remove them on syncing, so check the appropriate settings in iTunes, set the book to sync as well, and then sync the iPad again.

  • Downloaded iBooks on my Macbook Pro but when I tried to sync it on my iPhone, this appeared: "Are you sure you want to sync books? All existing songs, movies and TV shows on the iPhone "My iPhone" will be removed". Love the iBooks as well as music. HELP!

Downloaded iBooks on my Macbook Pro but when I tried to sync it on my iPhone, this appeared: "Are you sure you want to sync books? All existing songs, movies and TV shows on the iPhone “My iPhone” will be removed". Love the iBooks as well as music. I really don't want to loose my music. HELP!!!

From the message you are receiving, it sounds like you either, 1) haven't synced your iPhone with that computer before, 2) are using two different iTunes accounts, or 3) both.  If you have purchased music or movies through your iPhone with a certain iTunes account and purchased books through iBooks on your MacBook through a different iTunes account then there is no having both on the phone.
Apple doesn't allow content from two different accounts on a device at the same time.  Also if two "libraries" have been created, one on the iPhone and one on the Macbook then syncing will erase data that is not associated with that particular library.
If you are using the same iTunes account for both, then you should be able to redownload any purchased items (music, books, etc.) from iCloud, assuming you have set that up.
    I hope this helps!

  • I got note saying "Are you sure you want to sync books? All existing songs, movies, and TV shows on the ipod will be removed"  what is wrong?

I can't get my manual i got in itunes to come up in ibooks on my ipod touch (4th Generation). I can't find any answer to what is happening here. I do have music in the ipod and don't want to lose it. I hope someone can help me with this.
I can see the manual in iTunes with my device selected and looking in Books. They are shown in grey, ( 2 manuals i have downloaded). " All Books" is selected under Sync Books. Sync Books is not selected because this is where the note above pops up if I check mark this.

  • How to stop syncing books on ipad

    Hi all,
I have this weird problem where I want to manually handle ebooks/epubs/pdf's on my iPad 2 and iTunes 10.5 does not allow me to do this.
I select the iPad in iTunes, then go to the 'Books' tab and when I deselect 'Sync books' and hit apply it asks "Are you sure you do not want to sync books? All existing books on the iPad will be removed". I then hit "Don't Sync Books" and iTunes seemingly does something, however, after it has applied the supposed changes, the same checkbox That I just deselected ('Sync books') is selected again, indicating that the next time I sync my iPad it will sync the ebooks again. It just prescribes me that I HAVE TO sync books. But I DO NOT WANT TO sync books because it means that I have duplicate files, one copy on my harddrive and another one in the iTunes library. This is redundant data storage and totally unnecessary And a waste of storage space. Can anyone tell me how I can really turn off the book syncing?
    Much appreciated,
    Fazza

Hi and thanks. That works and at least the book shelf is now empty. However, iTunes still does not allow me to drag files directly from the Finder to the iPad. The books/pdfs still have to be in the iTunes library for me to be able to drag them onto the iPad. This tying users down in Apple applications is starting to annoy me. I have a perfectly organised file and folder structure and I know where my stuff is. I don't need a piece of software that babysits me and forces me to use *just that* software to always open a file. What if I want to use GoodReader or something else?

  • Will syncing books delete my songs, tv, and movies?

I bought some PDFs in my iTunes library. I have an iPad that isn't set to syncronize anything with iTunes. I want to put my PDFs onto the iPad, but when I select the iPad, go to Books, and check the Sync box, it asks me this:
"Are you sure you want to sync books? All existing songs, movies and TV shows on the iPad “Owner's iPad” will be removed."
    Am I reading that right???

You can manually sync the shows, by just selecting them in the movie library window and dragging them to your iPTs icon, in the left column. I never auto sync. I manually control content that goes on my iPT.
You can also manually delete content from your iPT as well, by just selecting your the folder with the content that you would like to delete and then highlight those titles that you want to erase and select your delete key on your keyboard.

  • Cannot manually manage music and video AND sync book, etc.

Just reset an old iPad2 to give to my son. Reset the thing, then went to sync it to his MBA running Yosemite. When I check "manually manage music and video" in the summary pane of the iPad when it's connected to iTunes, it automatically deselects "sync books" and "sync tones". If I go to reselect those syncing options, it erases the music just put on the iPad2 AND it deselects the "manually manage music and video." What gives?

Yes, that's the down side of "manually manage music".
it's probably best to forget about "manually" managing music and just select the music that you want synced and use the "automatic" method.

  • Syncing Books and Music on iPad

Anyone elese had the issue of when you sync books you can no longer drag music onto the iPad?
When I tell the iPad not to sync books it indicates that all books will be romoved?

I set mine to manually manage music but sync books. Doing so seems to work well enough. The first time I set books to sync, though, it also changed my music to sync as well, so there could be some twitchiness. Once I switched things back to the way I wanted them to be, I haven't had further problems.

  • Clicking "Do not Sync Books does not remove thumbnails from iBooks?

I wanted to try another reader for epubs so that I could sort my library by author name (iBooks default bookshelf view *****, by the way) and although I clicked on "do not sync books" in iTunes", and iTunes warned me it would remove the books from my device, when I open iBooks on the iPad the cover thumbnails are still there.  Books do not open, only get the "thinking" circle.  original iPad on 5.1.1. (yeah, I know)   Newest version of iTunes for Win.  I'd like the thumbnails gone so that I can tell what's "really" there.

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.
As for sorting books on the iPad, the book shelf view allows you to manually e-arrange the books in what ever order you choose (tap Edit and then drag and drop). The list view (tap the button on the upper right (just to the left of Edit), allows you auto sort by Book shelf order, Title, author or group by category. (Admittedly this may not be available for iBooks on 5.1.1, but I beleive it is.) You can also move books to specific collections.

  • Unable to sync books on iPad 1.

I restored my iPad earlier this week. Since that time I am unable to get my books to sync. At first the all had the litle spinning circle grayed out and then finally it showed them all syncing (or so I thought) and I open iPad and no books at all on it.

I'm not sure what you mean about seeing the little grey circle spinning but in any event, did you actually select all of the books to sync within iTunes?
When your iPad is connected to your computer and with iTunes running and the iPad selected on the left side - click on the books tab in the iTunes window on the right, and click on the Sync Books heading. Make sure that all of the books are selected to sync as well and then click on Apply (or sync) in the lower right corner of iTunes.

  • Syncing books deletes music

I'm hoping someone can help me with this.
When I try syncing books with my iPad, I get this message:
"Are you sure you want to sync books? All songs, movies and TV shows on the iPad will be removed."
Currently, I have "Manually manage music and videos" checked.
So now if I try to sync books, all the music I have on my iPad gets deleted and the the check besides manually managing music is removed.
Is there a way around this?
It's frustrating for me that when I purchase a book through my iPad and want to sync it with my MacBook Pro (so I can create a backup for it when I want), if I sync to my iTunes, that I'll lose my music all over again.
Any help on this is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Fantastic, worked for me! So I guess there's no such thing as "manually manage books" which is something I was expecting.
    Thanks, Niel, for your help!

  • Can't sync books from RFB&D to ZEN Mozaic EZ300

In the past I've synced books from Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic to ZEN V PLUS and ZEN MOZAIC players. But these players are no longer made, so I bought a ZEN MOZAIC EZ300 player. I attempted to sync books to this player using Windows Media Player, but WMP won't sync to this player. Help!

    Hi,
I just downloaded Win Media Player . When I connect the mp3 player, WMP now recognizes the unit. And I can sync mp3's, but I still cannot sync books from RFBD -- an "Error" message pops up.
Below I copied info from the following link:?
    http://www.rfbd.org/Training-and-Sup...ess-Books/283/
Playing WMA Downloadable (AudioAccess) Books: Compatible portable media players
<div class="Normal"><div class="cms-textitemlist-detail">Compatibility requirements<div class="cms-textitemlist-detail">RFB&D's? AudioAccess downloaded books use Windows Media? Audio and Digital Rights Management (DRM) technologies. In order to be compatible with the service, portable media players must meet the following criteria:
Be able to play Windows Media Audio (WMA) filesNot all media players can play WMA format files. In particular, many inexpensi've MP3 players are limited to playing only the MP3 format. Note that the Apple iPod? cannot play WMA files.
    <
Be able to play WMA files at a bit rate of 32 kbpsMost music files are encoded at bit rates of 28 kbps or higher. RFB&D uses the 32 kbps bit rate to minimize the size of the audio files. Some players cannot play files at very low bit rates. Check a player?s specifications to be sure.
    <
Be able to play protected Windows Media filesSome players, even if they play WMA format files, cannot play protected WMA files. RFB&D uses Windows Media DRM to protect AudioAccess downloaded books. Players that can support protected WMA will often indicate ?WMA-DRM? as a supported audio type.
Note: Neither the Apple iPod nor the Microsoft Zune? can play protected WMA files.
    <
Be compatible with subscription-based protected Windows Media contentNot all players that can play protected WMA can also play the extra DRM requirements for subscription-based services. In the past, players compatible with this technology carried the ?Plays For Sure? logo. Microsoft will be phasing out the ?Plays For Sure? program,? so this is no longer a reliable sign of compatibility. Typically, players that are compatible with subscription services will say so in their specifications.
To determine if a player meets these requirements, refer to the player documentation for the player specifications. The specs will usually list the file formats supported, along with the bit rates supported for each.
RFB&D does not sell, endorse, or recommend specific portable media players for use with AudioAccess. However, we have tested a number of players and have confirmed many that work with AudioAccess downloaded books. RFB&D does not make any effort to be comprehensi've in its testing, nor does it test players on request. From our testing experience, manufacturers such as Creative, Samsung, SanDisk, and Sony (among others) all produce some players that will work with AudioAccess. It is important to note that not all players from a manufacturer provide like features and it is important for you to refer to the manufacturer's player documentation to confirm that it will meet the requirements noted above.
Please refer to the player manufacturer's website to ensure that the player you purchase meets the minimum requirements necessary to play AudioAccess downloaded books.

  • ITunes crashing when trying to sync books from iPad

When trying to sync books from iPad to iTunes, iTunes crashes causing Microsoft error message. Any ideas?

There may be a corrupted video or image file on your iPad.
Try to download from the iPad using Image Capture instead and save the photos to a folder. If that succeeds, you can check the files for corruption before importing them to iPhoto.
