Sync books to multiple devices

I believe there's a bug in iTunes, but perhaps I'm just missing something.
I'm syning two devices, an iPhone and an iPad. I've turned OFF "Automatically sync new apps" so that I can select the apps to be installed/synced with each device. However, the same logic does NOT hold for Books. Every time I add a new Book to iTunes, it is automatically installed/synced with BOTH devices. I don't want to do this so for each book I want on my iPad I have to make sure to uncheck it the next time I sync my iPhone to make sure it is not installed there.
Every other tab is unique for each device so that for example when I add a movie it is NOT downloaded automatically to both devices but needs to be checked when each device is connected. Why doesn't this behavior exist for books?

I've noticed this aggravating behavior when I do not want to sync music, but I want to sync my books.  iTunes always begins with Books disabled, as is Music, ... It when I. Enable Books all my music is removed.
3 or 4 versions later, and we are still putting up with tis strange behaviour(?). :(

  • Syncing the Address Book on multiple devices

    Hi all...
I have a Mac Pro, MacBook Pro and an iPhone 3GS. As for now I've been syncing my iPhone with my Mac Pro at work but now I got myself a MacBook Pro also.
How do I get all my contacts in my Address Book synced with all 3 devices? I tried syncing my iPhone with the new MacBook Pro (just ticking off "Contacts" in the sync window) but even though it says it synchronizes the contacts no new contacts are added to the MacBook Pro???
I have OSX Snow Leopard on my Mac Pro (I'm not updating), OSX Lion on my MacBook Pro.
Please any advice on this so simple issue that Apple makes a mystery would be nice! And hopefully there is a clever solution making it simple to keep all 3 devices up to date even though the new information can be added on each one of them...  :-)
    Thanks in advance!!
    Toni
PS. And if there IS a clever solution for this, maybe there also is a way to sync all other stuff (pictures (iPhoto), music/video (iTunes)) on all 3 devices???

Like music, you can put it on any ipod touch/iphone/ipad you like

  • HT1495 how can i sync aps on multiple devices on one computer

Trying to use multiple devices on same computer but don't want the devices to have all the same aps.  how can i seperate that without having to check the aps i want each time a sync?

Assuming the photos are in an iPhoto Library on the Air and you want to import them into your iPhoto Library on your Powermac there is an application that can copy all photos in the Air library that are not in your Powermac library into your Powermac library.  However, no keywords or other metadeata willl be brought over with them and they will come over in a new event each time you run it. Take a look at: Sync iPhoto libraries | SyncPhotos (formerly iPhotoSync) | Haystack Software.
There's another application,  iPhoto Library Manager, that will let you copy events or albums from the Air library to the Powermac library. However, you will have to select the events/albums you want to copy. It's not automatic.  This method will copy keywords and other metadata along with the photos.

  • Sync Thunderbird across multiple devices

Can anyone tell me how to sync my Thunderbird email accounts across multiple devices?  I've got this weird situation where incoming emails are showing up on one device but not another, and the contents of the inboxes are different across iMac; Macbook; iPad and iPhone.  I'm using IMAP  but just can't get the inboxes to look the same across each device.  I use this account for work so it's very frustrating.

I have the same setup here for me any my wife. We each have a separate apple ID used for iCloud (but share one ID for iTunes).
We each have personal calendars but we also have a shared one (named shared). On icloud.com we have that calendar shared where we can each add/edit the events. And it is shared accross our iPad and iPhones.

  • How to sync contacts across multiple devices

I have a iPhone, iMac and iPad that I am having trouble keeping my contacts in sync!
Some contacts do not appear across all devices and others appear duplicated on one or more device.
After much checking of the settings and trying to merge contacts, I have still not managed to sort the problem.
    David

First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing.

  • Sync books across multiple iPads & accounts

    Hey everyone,
I've got what is probably not that an unusual question. My company has a resource of PDF documents we want to be able to sync across multiple iPads. It's ok with the ones we own as we control the accounts but we have staff with their own iPads who want access to the documents through iBooks. I know there are workarounds like e-mailing them or using dropbox but we're talking upwards of 100 documents. Is there a way to sync a library like that without deleting the books the preson has purchased?
    Thanks in advance

Interesting, never knew there was an iCloud website.  Ironically, it wouldn't open in Safari (just got a spinning progress wheel), but it opened up fine in Chrome.  :/
So, I logged into iCloud under my wife's Apple ID, clicked on the calendar icon, then clicked on those icons to the right of the two calendars shown (Home and Work), selected Private Calendar, and added my email address which is linked to my Apple ID. I hoped that would do the trick to allow me to see her calendar entries in iCal in my account, but it didn't.
Am I correct that the process outlined above should display my wife's entries onto my iCal calendar?  Or do I need to go view her calendar online somewhere instead of seeing the entries on my own iCal calendar?

  • ICloud is not syncing information on multiple devices??

I have a Mac laptop, iPad2, and iPhone 4. I purchased iCloud to allow all the changes to my notes, calendars, etc to be synced whenever I make changes.  However, this is not happening.  I've added multiple events on my calendars and made changes to several notes, but none of the devices are syncing via iCloud.  What am I doing wrong?  I've turned on everything in the SETTINGS menu.  The only way they sync is if I sync to my computer first and then sync again with the other device.

I haven't found anyway to re-assign notes to another account other than to email them to myself and copy and paste them into new notes on my mac. To avoid creating notes in other accounts going forward, always ensure that you are in your iCloud account before creating a new note (ie by tapping iCloud from the screenshot above.
On the issue of calendars, what account are the stray calendars in, is there a way to get them into calendars on your mac, you can move a whole calendar to a different account on the mac. I can show you how if you are able to get it to the mac. What I'm looking for is whether whichever account the calendars are on on your phone can be added to your mac even temporarily.

  • Can't see a purchased book on multiple devices.

I purchased a book on my iPhone and am unable to see it on on my iPad without purchasing it again. How do I get an already purchased book from iPhone to iPad? I have looked in the FAQ and the book is not seen on my iPad but I can find and buy it if I want.  I want it but don't think I should have to spend $8 twice for two devices.
    Thanks Chris Kruger

Make sure you are logged in with the same Apple ID on both devices. You're the 2nd person reporting this in the last 2 days. Perhaps it's a hiccup with the iTunes store. You could transfer purchases to iTunes on your computer and sync the book over to the other device.

  • Sync Calendar across multiple devices

My wife and I each have an iMac and iPhones. We would like to be able to have a common calendar across all of our devices. I suspect this can be done with iCloud. I think this can be done by both of us using the same iCloud account but then we would have to have common everything. We each have separate Contacts lists and really don't want to co-mingle them.
Is it possible to have multiple iCloud accounts on the same device?
Can someone point me to a place where I can read about how to set this up?
Thanks a lot for the help.
    Adrian

  • Syncing ITunes Across Multiple Devices...

    Hi everyone,
I have had a MacBook for about four years now, and have always enjoyed having my entire music library in iTunes and on an iPod.  Recently, my iPod broke -- and around the same time, I got an iPad and iPhone5 (both 16GB).  So here's my question: It's not feasible to put my entire music library on the iPad and iPhone because of space considerations.  So I'm wondering what you guys think is the best way to ensure that I have the same sampling of songs from my library on the iPad and iPhone (aside from just manually uploading the same songs to each device).  I'm sure there are simple answers to this question, but I'm new to the iPad and iPhone, so keeping the two devices synced is all new to me.  Any suggestions people have would be great.  Thanks.

Create a playlist with the songs you want to listen to.  When you connect each device, select the "music" tab and specify that  you want it to sync to just the songs in that playlist.
If you let iTunes decide what songs to download, (I think) it will have created a playlist and already done this. You can choose to either start with this, or make a new playlist.  You can sync the same playlist to all your devices.
Another option is Music Match.  For $25/year, you can have access to your entire library over the network from all your devices and other computers. That was how I solved the same problem you have.

  • Syncing apps across multiple devices

  • Sync issues with multiple devices

I have an iPhone 4 and an iPad mini associated with a single account. I just want to sync both the devices in such a way that a few utitlity apps need to be on the phone while the games need to be installed on iPad. However each time i sync the iPad i get list of apps pre checked with the phones settings so this will make the iTunes to copy all phone apps to iPad. I dont want this to happen.
I tried creating a seperate library but now im not able to see list of apps i downloaded previously. My question - is it possible to have a single library(to probably save some disk space)  for two devices running under same account but only difference in sync settings. So that i time i connect a device it should know what to sync and what not to.

I have the Express units that look like a white AppleTV. Not the ones that plug directly into the wall, they have a power cable. I believe they are 2nd Generation.
Yes, those would be 2nd generation Express base stations and they should be able to support up to fifty wireless connections.
Are both of these connected back to the Extreme with a wireless or wired connection? Regardless of which are they both configured to extend the Extreme's Wi-Fi range?
I am assuming that you have this network configured to also support a guest network ... correct?
The Extreme is not the latest tall one, it's the one just before they released the new one.
That should make your Extreme a 5th generation model, which is just fine.
Do the Express devices count as wireless connections?
    Yes.
Even if I include the Express devices, I have 14 connections. If two people come to my home with two devices each, I am still under 20 connections. All Airports and devices are on the same level of the house, approximately 1000 square foot area, with open doors into every room.
Yes, according to the number of devices you stated, this should work.
The only idea I have at this time is to temporarily disable the guest networking feature. Once done, see if you still have the issue. Do you?

  • Initial sync issues on multiple devices (sloppy timing)

I'm running logic 9 64bit in snow leopard on a mac pro 2.3 nehalem dual quad w 14 gigs ram. (which I'm still paying off) I have a MOTU express 128, a pile of dusty analog things and NI's Maschine running as per NI's support team's advice, in stand alone slaved to logic via midi clock through IAC 1. The problem is that I cant seem to get everything synched up quite right. I tried listening to the click outs from logic and maschine and beatmatching w the midi out offset in logic's preferences. That works for the instant I get it 'on' but then when I press stop and play again, it has to be readjusted. Seems to want to be anywhere between -30 to -20ms but if its even a little off, the whole thing sounds like trash. Feels a clock signal inconsistency or something. (?) Secondly, when the Maschine is synched for the minute, the outboard synths are a lil off. Further complicating, my two Midi/CV converter systems have a slightly different latency, AND one synth (a retrofit) accepts midi note, pitch-bend and mod-wheel data but goes fruggun haywire when it hears clock or timecode.
Anyone have a systematic process for getting the audio and multiple midi devices all synched up? I come from MPC land so you'll have to speak slowly and use small words.
    thanks!

Yup, apparently NI isn't real good w AU programming. Lots of hiccups when running in Logic. Timing goes BONKERS, and sample rate falls off the wagon. The 'within logic work around' is to reset the audio buffer and device settings every five minutes after it fails. (barf) Are you saying there's an inheriant issue w synch via IAC? I'd really like to start w audio I/O/I/O lag offset, which I'm pretty sure is the first step. It's gotta be around here somewhere...

  • Syncing Mail Between Multiple Devices?

    Hey guys,
So I'm trying to get back into the groove of things with my new Mac, however I'm experiecing one annoying problem.
I've set up MacMail to my email accounts, but when I read and/or delete them on my computer, it doesn't regiester anywhere else.
So if I look at my phone, all the messages I had deleted earlier still remain. Same if I log onto the website which hosts the email (Gmail/Outlook).
Is there a preference option I'm overlooking, or some way I can set it up so that actions on one device will carry over to the others?
    Thanks.

    From http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows/outlook/send-receive-from-app
Have you tried setting the account up as an Exchange account?
    otherwise.....manual setup would be
Apps that support IMAP and SMTP
If your email app doesn’t support Exchange ActiveSync, it might use IMAP. Unlike POP, which only syncs your inbox, IMAP syncs all your email folders.
Use the following settings in your email app.
    Incoming (IMAP) Server
    Server address: imap-mail.outlook.com
    Port: 993
    Encrypted Connection: SSL
    Outgoing (SMTP) Server
    Server address: smtp-mail.outlook.com
Port: 25 (or 587 if 25 is blocked)
    Authentication: Yes
    Encrypted Connection: TLS
    User name: Your email address
    Password: Your password
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp-mail.com:"email address"
    won't work as shown above

  • Help with viewing books on multiple devices

I have book on my iPad in iBooks , can't see them on iPhone or iPad air and can't transfer to PC. Same thing with pdf's, the books and ones I downloaded from web using iPad. Only books I can see are purchased books

You should be able to copy them over to your computer's iTunes library via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases, that should copy epubs and PDFs that are in the iBooks app and not just actual ibooks - does that not work ?
The only books that you will be able to download in the iBooks app on your other devices are ibooks from the store (as long as they remain in your country's store).
